We've just got this last week for the first time for our kids, so really pleased to see you reviewing it and even more pleased that you think it's still worth it! 👍🏻
Thanks for the video. I have the Sherlock version of this one. My family and I really like it. I think this holds up really well. We do wish the player tokens were little magnifying glasses with different colored stems versus what we got. But it's a small gripe to a classic good game.
Definitely recommend getting the newer Sherlock Holmes version. In addition to the traditional rules, it adds a version with only 16 rounds, unique player powers for the detectives and crime scene location goals for the Moriarty (Mister X) player.
Get in, I fucking love Scotland Yard. We got the newer Sherlock Holmes edition a Christmas before last and it's absolutely great. People are proper snobby about this game, thinking its too childish or just expecting it to be just plain shite. It's totally not shite. It's a great game and a good one for new players.
One of my favorites of all time, along with NY Chase, the followup. I scored a map of Tokyo made in Japan a few years back as well. Like I said--one of my favorites!
Yeah this is a good game although I recommend the Sherlock Holmes version as it allows you to not only play with the classic rules but it has an added new variation with new character abilities for the detectives and only plays for 16 rounds.
I wish I had picked this up instead of Whitehall Mystery. Detectives had to specifically ask "are you here now" in order to catch you. It took away from the suspense.
Great video, got it on my shelf of shame (er, opportunity?), your video encourages me to play it. Also, I really like the new intro, with some shots of the game in question. More work for you, but worth it imo. Regards, Salman
You lucky, lucky bastard! I didn't get the "Mister X" visor in my 1983 game. Also, only 3-6 players, while your one includes 2. But how is that meant to work?
Any chance you’ve had the opportunity to play run? Very fun and simple as far as hidden movement games go! Also quite enjoy sniper elite, and I know it’s not technically hidden movement in the purest sense but Star Wars rebellion has hints of it on the mechanics.
I don’t like some of the things that make it too easy for Mr X. The black ticket and the wild card ticket. But otherwise it’s a good game for the level of complexity.
Without the visor it would be dogshit. But honestly- still a good and fun game. My teenage son just played it with his friends but these Muppets used sunglasses instead of the visor - little do they know about looking cool and mysterious....
I think very highly of you, especially since you're also a fan of Hide the Sausage, but why are you reviewing a modern version of this game when you claim to be an old-schooler? I don't have many ancient games in my collection, but I do have Scotland Yard. (Okay, my parents are keeping it for me.) 2013 is the old version to you? Also, no comment about ze Germans making a game about something that should be really a typically English theme? Don't take this comment to serious, Mr. X will reveal himself, no matter what your verdict is. Glad you keep doing those videos. I personally have written off Scotland Yard, not only because it is at my parents' place, but also because I thought it wouldn't be worth it anymore. Maybe I was wrong. Anyhow, I realise that I have one of those mini-boxes of Scotland Yard in my collection which is spread in many places. I remember it being a bit shit. Was I wrong? Am I right? Too many questions for someone who just had three double rum and cokes on a weekday.
@@BoardGameBollocks maybe they just didnt have the plus symbol 45 years ago and didnt think to update the box 🤷♂️ 101 year olds are also restricted from playing 😂. If only someone was alive 45 years ago and can share what life was like back then 😔
FoD is more of an event game. It is more than hidden movement as you have to make sure you can kill Dracula, and Dracula can kick your ass too. The build up to an encounter is suspenseful and exciting. You have to play it more than once, or with experienced players (esp Dracula) to get the best out of it.
I owned FoD and we played it half a dozen times and maybe had one exciting game - i honestly don't recall. We disliked the combat mechanics, the day/night turns lacked meaningful decision making, especially the night, often boiling down to collecting travel tickets or risking drawing random cards. Sold it a few years ago because of our much better experience with SY. I'll happily play things like SW Rebellion, Axis and Allies, Cthulhu Wars, Eclipse and Eldritch Horror but, FoD didn't stay long on our event games list and we definitely haven't missed it. Horses for courses. If I want to hunt a vampire I'll play some Touch of Evil by Flying Frog.
This game actually aged waaaay better than its many contemporaries IMHO.

Us all the way at the back are loving the new intro, and a Mr Benn reference sealed the deal. You keep doing you fella, it's appreciated!

Great video. Enjoy the new intro and fashion show.

Best game content out there, no bs, no politics, bam! My new home. BGG can blank blank, and blank.

I rate this channel. Board gaming with Super Hans. Absolute legend!!
Surprisingly useful. One often visits old games with trepidation or the company of maniacs.
my favorite is probably only whitehall mystery which is letters from whitechapel more refined and downsized.

Yes…more work 😐
Fun basic game. Beats the hell out of Sorry!
Omg never got the visor with my copy!
Great review, but could use a knife crime joke or two. Not to mention the next edition may be named Metropolitan Police vs Abdul Azedi.

Definitely worth comparing to "Letters from Whitechapel" as a slightly more modern version, based on Jack The Ripper story.
LOL second item why you love SY
The orange man is turning to sepia. My theory of him being the yellow king goes out the window I guess
What?

Hey, I was also released in 1982.
From Jail or the womb?
@@BoardGameBollocks yes.
Mr Ben used to frighten the shite outa me.

Lovin the new intros 👍 why do you think 100yr olds cant play this game? Seems a bit ageist doesnt it?
They may die in the middle?

Scotland Yard > Fury of Dracula. Change my mind.
Fury of Dracula has way more stuff to fiddle with.
