      It really is solid life advice.

    I bought Horrified and after a night of playing I looked further to see if there were any other versions because I thought the gameplay was amazing. Low and behold there was Horrified American Monsters which I went and bought the next day at my local Target. Initially I had to have American Monsters because I live close to the Mothman legend. I had to see what it would be about in board game fashion. After buying both NEITHER are a disappointment. Personally, I feel like the lack of art and the lack of sculpting on the miniatures between the two is by design. The monster in Horrified are from a much older generation and thematically would have that low presence of appearance where as American Monsters are of a newer generation. I could be wrong, but I feel like they played that well. The enemies in Horrified are a little easier but don't be fooled. Invisible man can wreck your playing board in quick fashion and depending how your deck draws could wreak serious havoc. He has an ability to clean a spot with the highest amount of items. If you were unlucky and stacked one location, it might be awhile before you can complete objectives. American Monsters can be very difficult. As he mentioned Jersey Devil limits your monster phase count. When that stack empties the game is over. This makes it so you have to consciously decide when you want to reveal a citizen (which plays as a monster card instead, preserving your monster deck). Revealing a citizen means you need to be in a certain location which means your constantly calculating your moves. All that said I have both, they are extremely fun and amazing games to play. I love the co-op play, I love the "missions" you must complete, I all around just love the game. Two thumbs up.
    P.S. If anyone can put a bug in there ear, I'd love to see a Horrified Slashers game. Freddy, Leatherface, Ghost Face, Jason, Michael you get the drift....

      A plucky fan actually made miniatures of Freddy, Jason, Michael, Ghost face, Leatherface, Chucky and Pennywise. They look great too. All we need are the licensing rights for the characters which ...... sigh 😔....on second thought don't hold your breath.

      It's called Terrified and it's probably the most thematic of the 3

    Just picked up horrified American monsters at target $39.99 and was able to apply 25%off coupon. Also found the universal monsters behind. Scanned on price checker, clearance $10. Bought both but have yet to play. Look forward to both.

    Anyone else still find it odd that the monsters in the first Horrified don't look anything like the actors who portrayed them in the Universal films, despite the Universal licensing?
    The villager tokens and character cards look like the actors--but not the monsters. Not an important thing I guess, just very odd.

    • @lloydkochinka4257
      @lloydkochinka4257 2 года назад +1

      Could be that they don't have actor licensing rights, and only the rights to the actual Universal Monsters properties. All of the monsters are public domain I think, but Universal controsl the likeness of the actual monster. For instance, Frankenstein's Monster with the big square head and bolts is the Universal look of the monster, but is also in the pop culture zeitgeist as what we imagine when someone says Frankenstein. I don't picture Robert DeNiro, even though that movie's portrayal was closer to the source material. :)

    I have had the original for a while and I really like it, and I just recently got American Monsters. Honestly, I prefer American Monsters over the original.
    The monsters and items are more detailed, and I like the art style more.
    One thing I immediately noticed was that a lot of the monsters are much more difficult and frustrating (specifically Bigfoot and the Ozark Howler, with how much they can increase the terror meter).
    However, I think one of the biggest improvements is the Jersey Devil, who is by far the most unique and complex monster.
    The only downsides, in my opinion, to American monsters, are the 2 following:
    1) I liked the monster overlays that actually covered the entire space, rather than the small rectangles in American Monsters.
    2) They didn't really change the playable characters' abilities at all, which is fine, but it would have been interesting to maybe change it a little bit.

    • @lloydkochinka4257
      @lloydkochinka4257 2 года назад

      Hey, thanks for watching and the comment.
      Overall I like American Monsters more as well. I think the art style of the original was true to the source material, but that also made it a little lackluster for me.
      I missed the complete space overlays as well. A bit of a downgrade from the first game. But I think everything else production wise made up for it. The minis are better. The art is better. And the monsters are trickier. The Jersey Devil is definitely one of the highlights in the game. Very unique.
      I was trying to think of something different they could do with the character powers, and my game design brain really couldn’t come up with much. They covered pretty much all of the mechanisms in the game without upping the complexity of the playable characters too much.
      I need to get some more plays in. I haven’t played it in a while. 😕

    This looks like a king of Tokyo vs King of New York sittuation. For this kind of game I want more straightforward. If I want to play a more complex game I would pick several others before horrified 2, or king of new york.

    • @lloydkochinka4257
      @lloydkochinka4257 2 года назад +1

      Um, it’s not that drastic of a change to be honest. The basic gameplay is the same between the 2 versions, unlike king of New York vs king of Tokyo. I think a few of the puzzles for the monsters themselves are a bit more complex, but I don’t think American Monsters is a departure from the Horrified formula.
