Why would they? It's for developers not users. Instagram is all about phones for them, not desktops. The only reason they did desktop was because you had other sites like Statigram and Webstagram creating Instagram viewers where you could access through your computer.

The key here was to include all the details. You mentioned 'hit refresh'. Others didn't do this and so their videos instructions were useless. Your's worked! Thanks!

In fact Instagram has many features available on their Web API which are hidden by default and only available if you use Instagram on mobile browser in countries with slow Internet. For example it is possible to post Videos and mention people on stories. I believe these things were implemented to get new users fast, specifically in some African countries.
Instagram is probably under contract with app companies not to do this so the other companies can charge for it. There are apps out there where you pay for them and the ability to download videos and multiple photos

This seems very complicated. Why isn't there just an 'upload photo' option on Instagram?? 🙄
That is the most aggravating detail about it. The "upload foto" button is there. but on PC it gets hidden from view. It's essentially the same website-code thats used for PC or Mobile. but depending on which device you use different parts of the code are shown to display the site. Thats what you're doing in this video by "inspecting" and then "toggle device" you're fooling the website into thinking it needs to show the mobile version.

It's not intuitive and the fact so many people have come on here and watched this video for help and had so much trouble getting an answer means yes its complicated (to the stupid cunts below who said it wasn/t), it should be build in on the front end so we don't have to look for it. And you have to do it every time you want to post a photo! ha, what garbage.

In Safari, on a mac all you have to do is go to "Develop" on your nav bar and switch to "User Agent" and choose phone.
Man this video helped me out so much. I was wondering how to upload photos on the desktop computer. I don’t want to always do it from my phone. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t have a platform where you can post your pictures from your desktop anyway. But thank you for making this video!!!!!

FINALLY, someone who explains a simple way to handle this everyday task. Didn't find anyone else who mentioned this. Only one question, how do you add hashtags? You sort of glossed over this.

Hi Chad Thank you for your help. It wasn't completely working for me because the plus button to add photos was not popping up after I followed your directions which should have actually worked since everyone else seemed to have success. But I did accidentally stumble upon a fix that I wanted to share for those who also have the same problem. Once you have followed Chad's directions at the top of your instagram screen you will see a down arrow which will either say your cell phone type or possibly the word responsive. Click on the down arrow next to it, then click on preferences. Go all the way to the bottom and then click on "Restore Defaults and reload" button. This did the trick for me and I hope this helps someone else too!!! :)

If Anyone is having Problems if it says you cant Open a Picture you want, Right Click it, Press Quick look And then exit out of that and It should work That way :)

See vid at 1:12 - did you REFRESH your page? Then you will see the + sign.
see vid at 0:55 you have to click the "toggle device toolbar" then refresh it

Glad it's working for you! Yeah, sadly there are a lot of features many methods are lacking :( Hopefully with some of the changes instagram is making, they will make a desktop version!
It makes no sense to me why they dont have a laptop version - this process is so convoluted not straight forward and inaccessible for people with disabilities ! @@ChadEveryday

Very Very helpful ! Thanks !! But, would be a lot better if you would highlight somehow the Toogle Device Button on chromium debugger we need to press to switch into phone screen touch mode. It's not quite clear from the first time where exactly to click after choosing "inspect" element in context menu. Also it is very important to remind that it is absolutely necessary to hit "Refresh" button (F5) after that

Thank you. You can also do the same on Firefox, just a couple different steps but luckily I know how to work the "Inspect Element" options which is roughly the same in Firefox.
I tried this a year or more ago and it worked like a charm. Forgetting the precise steps I came back to try again. NOW after I click to the format with the 'dot' the image of my home page is shortened---by a lot and even if I can scroll down to it there is no "+" sign to add a photo. What in the world am I doing wrong? Thank you. (Yes, I'm using Chrome)
Sometimes I have found that when Google Chrome updates there are sometimes issues with this method. If you havn't already, make sure you have updated to the latest version of Chrome. If that's not the case, sometimes it just works itself out in time.
