Thanks for the video Joe! Thought we might not get it after your video on the other channel saying you came back early. You made the smart move. We can wait till the mid winter trip.
I really enjoy your channel!!!! So glad you made it home safe. Sometime could you do a video about how you constructed and insulated the tent, maybe even share some plans with us. I'm sure you've done some maintenance over the years, but over all it looks to have held up very well considering the sometimes harsh climate there. That's a testament to your skills my friend!!!! Thanks for sharing with us.
Old man winter is coming here in the Allegheny Mountains. Calling for 12" as of right now, hard to say how much we will get. Today I was scrambling to get the old International ready for snow duty. Tomorrow is going to be another crazy day. The wind is ripping so hard up here on the mountain, just lost one of my window screens!! That's a bummer you had to cut the season early, but you have to be safe. I am just hoping this snow sticks around for our season opener. Haven't had a white deer season in a few years now. Have a great weekend.......Darryl, AML.
Wow, Joe! So sorry your weekend at the tent was a bust. Hope this makes you feel better; MJ clocked 460 donuts from Knoxville to Trussville today. First 230 was easy, around 3.5 hours. Got stuck headed north at the I59/I24 split south of Nooga; 30 miles'ish took an hour, so 4.5 back. Think you made a good call, supposed to be 29 in Knoxville tonight but there were scattered showers overnight while hopefully dampened the wild fires. Was nice to not sneeze/burning eyes this morning. Long day 9am-6pm round trip with only 2 stops (30 mins lunch). Be well, safe and warm, MJ
Thanks MJ. I am glad I left when I did, Deer hunting will be here again next year but at least my truck wont have to be at the tent all winter waiting for the snow to melt. Thanks again. Joe
First snow storm of the season moving in tonight. Instead of watching John Wayne, I am watching your new video. I live in Ontario and made venison stew today. My Amish friends gave me some yesterday.
Sorry that you had to cut the trip short Joe, and as a fellow deer hunter I empathize with your frustration. I look forward to all of your videos, and while it doesn't make you feel any better, there are the trips you'll have up there hopefully with the kids, you have your trip down to see Melissa, and then there will be next year! Stay safe and I look forward to the next one buddy! :-)
Hi Joe, you may be over thinking the the new diesel truck, i have driven diesels for the past 25 plus years and whilst some lack the top end punch their low down rely ablity is great. take it out side you comfort zone and give it a spin. A mate of mine has the 7.3ltr diesel in the Ford F250 and it kicks ass in the wet season mud, which would be like your snow.
Not sure which days these were but we had very similar weather in Qc. Windy, blustery and not very good at all for hunting... great video, I had forgotten how cool this camp setup is.. thanks for sharing! ..That pickup would have been just fine, from my experience, in many inches of new fluffy snow at speed, with proper tires. Heavier truck digs to the hard stuff, and unlimited torque of a diesel gets you out of the thicker stuff. Next year !
With such good weather predictions and yet people are caught out and un prepared so difficult to see all those cars off the road but have to drive on by. Brilliant video as ever thank you really surprised how the seasons change with you it really is like turning a switch.
That is definitely a bummer. I started following you about 3-4th months ago and I love your videos. Great family relationships and great looking food! Hope you stay safe during the winter.
Joe, after seeing some of the videos on here of the Winter storm you left behind at the tent, it was a VERY good idea that you cut the hunt short. Being here in Alabama, it blows our minds that there are people up there driving in those conditions. Maybe you'll get a chance to hunt when you visit Melissa.
Great to see part two, but sad about the ending. Smart decision, it kinda sucks but will make next year that much sweeter due to the lack of hunting this year. Great videos and a highlight to watch. Will be looking forward to the winter tent video. So far this season my buddy and I have 13 days in deer hunting, I was lucky enough to harvest a spike horn, but other that, we have seen nothing. Vacation is over and we put in a lot of time but I love every minute of it. LOL Have a great one and thanks for talking the time to make these videos. Regards Mark
what a bummer...ya that lake effect is hard to judge but once it let's go you can get snowed in quickly. PS when I had my F350 diesel 20 inches is no problem...weight is definitely your friend in the snow✌
Love your videos Joe, I hate the weather pushed you out. I imagine it would be fun to get stuck up there for a while as long as you have plenty of firewood and food.
Goodness me Joe, good call to come home early. Here in Ireland we have a saying "keep er between the hedges!" Looking at some of the cars you certainly did that bro. Take care.
Afew hundred miles north and 5 or 6 hundred west we say the same but the ditches out on the prairie tend to be wider than the road and when filled with snow can bury a car if yyou try driving into them
Joe, I hate you had to cut your trip short. But it is better to be safe that sorrow! We are leaving in the morning to the bus for our rifle season opener on Monday morning. Yesterday the temperatures was in the low 70's, and today it was in the 50's and by afternoon it dropped in the 40's and right now it is about 32 degrees and we have had some sleet and some snow, just a dusting of snow though. The winds though have been 15 to 25 mph with some higher gusts! Tomorrow it isn't suppose to get out of the 30's. I guess this is your cold front hitting us now. Oh, I see you use the same green water jugs that we use. I like them bit I hate the air plug, they don't stay in very well. Enjoyed the video and I could tell it was probably miserable in that stand that morning! Juddie
What a bummer! Sorry your trip got cut short. Thanks for making the videos, I really enjoy going along on the hunt with you. I am also really happy that we just got a couple of inches from that storm here in Michigan. Not ready for a huge snow dump yet.
I love storms of all kinds. And a meat thermometer is not cheating, it's thinking. "Work smart not hard." Also, watching a John Wayne movie in that tent with bad weather outside would be heaven for me. Your truck is an amazing tool, it got you home in a mess, good truck.
What a awesome looking stand location, very beautiful. I don't worry about wind conditions any more after I shot my biggest buck ever in 45 mph wind's. Trees were literally falling close by every few minutes. First a doe ran past me from my left rear side , she looked worried about something, I assumed a tree fell close to her bed and scared her off. Ten minutes later a big nine with his nose to the ground came down the same trail, I didn't let him get very far after that. It was Nov 17 in the UP. Love your camp.
Dear joe and zach. Your guys videos a good. My name is gavin. i live in nd. Yesterday, nd deer season ended. I am fifteen and got my first deer. It was with my youth tag, and i got a 4x5 whitetail at 10:43 a.m. You guys inspire me. Thanks
yeah awesome cabin for sure great videos but one guy was right should have some metal plate or tiles under stove be such a terrible loss if was a fire issue and hoping never is at that , for what takes heat shield in back something below worth it have a great day thanks for the vids .
Sorry you had to cut your trip short. Good call though, simply not worth the risk. Like another commenter said, I'd definitely look into archery hunting. Only bad weather then would be rain. Excellent channel. Keep it up.
Glad to see you made it back all in one piece...to bad the weather socked in on your hunt...was hoping you'd at least get to see one and maybe get a shot off...Well...maybe next time eh....
Ah Man, you should be able to push 24" of snow with your Diesel P/U very easy. I had a Dodge 4-wheel drive and ran it in the mountains in 36" of snow without spinning a wheel. Mine did sit up some higher than yours does though.
I just discovered your vid's. Love em. Non hunters don't get what is most important about hunting, the traditions. Your deer camp is the embodiment of what is most dear to me. My Dad is 84 and hasn't missed a hunt. Wish we had your set up, I hunt out of a 35 foot motorhome on state and public land in west central Wisconsin. I love your tent and how you've got it organized. I also could hunt on my farm (just less than 20 acres) but my heart and tradition is the big woods. Just doesn't seem like hunting looking over a corn field.lol. I could go on but will keep watching for more. ps I have 3 boys, 2 girls and the girls are outscoring the boys as of now.!!! take carerchunter
Thank you for the nice comment. I agree, its the "Deer Camp" that defines deer hunting, not the kill. If someone does not want to come up because they have to get a deer and do not think they will then they have lost the meaning. I could guarantee myself a deer by hunting behind the barn at the house, and there are some very big bucks that run the woods and fields but that simply is not deer camp. I have shot many deer back there when I truly needed meat for the freezer when I was younger. Now I just enjoy the whole "Up to the tent for deer hunting" experience. Thanks again. Joe
Sorry that your deer season ended the way it did. But even with all of the wind, snow and ice your tent get-away is fantastic! Thanks for sharing your time there. Have a great Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Sorry to see that you didn't get to open a can of kippers again this year. If you have your diesel out in the cold and can't or don't want to plug it in, put 0W30 motor oil in. I have used it down to -50 without running a block heater. Ron
OH CRAP... I did not take the cans of kippers off the shelf. lol lol. UGH. Well with all that oil in them maybe they will not explode when they freeze. I will discard them when I go up this winter. Thank you for the advice on the oil. Thanks Ron. Joe.
Too bad that you had to end your trip early. Better to be safe than sorry. Glad you got home safely. Hope you have some nice ice this year so you can get some ice fishing done:).
Damn the luck Joe! Almost look like you could have stayed BUT gotta get home and make money too! I am hoping to get up north from Florida soon. Great videos and take care!
Thank you for the nice comment. Some people complain but cooking up there takes up quite a bit of time, if I took that part out there would not be a whole lot to film. The cooking will stay in the videos. Thanks again. Joe
Hairy ride home! The area you are hunting... does it not allow a permanent deer blind? Since you guys have such rough winters I thought ppl would go for something that would knock the weather more. We are several hundred miles south of you in southern Ky, and I know guys who have built small houses on stilts, lol. With rolling padded desk chairs to roll from window to window. Propane heat etc. I have hunted from a pop up blind for 14 years or so. As I get older I find the more comfy I am the longer I can stay and better chances I have. Got a 3 point last Saturday. Just don't see the numbers we did a few years ago.
Sorry you had to cut out early. I really would love to get snowed in at your tent. I was able to tag a small buck on my 60th birthday, and caught 6 nice fish. What a great day for me.
Good decision on your part by the looks. The deer will just be bigger next year.:) Here in Vt. we're supposed to get our first snow today. Time to put the chains and plow on the tractor. Take care, Al
that's to bad, sad way to end your deer season I was so looking forward to watching you hunt the storm, I even made some popcorn lol. we had 40mph winds here in wisconsin for the opener on Saturday made it very tough to sit all day but ended up shooting a decent 10 point. I love watching your videos! !!!!
Another outstanding video, to bad about the weather but I think you made the right decision to cut the trip short. Looks like a lot of folks didn't drive to the conditions of the road and weather and ended up in the ditch. Sometimes the tortoise wins the race, slow and steady. Well there's always next deer season. PS... I really like the way you edit your videos, you do a wonderful job. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure.
Most welcome Joe, you have a great channel and produce wonderful videos, I truly enjoy watching them. I've started taking more time with the editing of my moose hunting videos this fall. But when I get out in the woods the camera is the last thing I think about. It's only an after thought when I say to myself, I've should have recorded that... lol
joe we talked early this year I had just got my okl. Joe smoker and you were thinking about getting one. I see you got one. I have added high temp gasket around my lids and it helped out. hope you like yours. good smokin!
Joe, I've been meaning to ask, it's understood why you have to take the 'tin' canned foods out to prevent freezing, but why are you able to leave the 'glass' ones? Thx for allowing us to enjoy parts of your life with you. You're a class act.
All the glass ones are dehydrated foods. Great question. A few on the bottom shelf are jerky. I have no jars with liquid that will freeze. Thanks Jimbo. Joe
great tent and your series of videos is fantastic, from the family traditions of hunting and fishing great you tube entertainment sir. bad luck on the early storm for the start of this years winter. Plus your fathers cabin in other videos is a true out doors masterpiece , best of luck on your channel joe sir.
Joe I noticed that you have a hand pump in your yard, why don't you dig a trench over to your tent and put a electric pump in and pump water to your shower and put a 20 gallon water heater in, heated it with propane or electricity or wood, get a copper or stainless steel water heater then you would not half to heat water on the stove. Another little trick is to get the frisbee and use it to put your paper plates on. Enjoy your videos keep up the good work. See you later Don L.
Nice video. I really enjoy your channel. Very informative. I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba and we missed that storm. No snow on the ground here yet but it's coming. It's Canada after all. LOL
WOW! 2016 in the tent went quick! Seems like you were just up fishing with the girls the other day in early spring! Maybe you should take on a local hunt with big bucks just a stones throw away! Well have a Happy and safe Thanksgiving!
Subscribed! .... I recognized some of the early roads you were crossing on your GPS as you were leaving town. Really great video, most enjoyable, I have not been hunting in about 4 years so it was good to see someone get out and make an effort. Cool hunting camp!
It turned out awesome. The other roast I brought up I cooked tonight on my bbq I have here at home. It turned out EVEN better. That video I will post tomorrow on my other channel... Northern Seclusion. Thank you. Joe
That could have been your best deer hunting excursion ,have you taught about moving your deer stand closer to those tracks or place another one near there would make more fun and hunt
Joe glad that you were able too at least get up for a night and morning hunt sorry that you didn't get 1 again I still haven't got 1also how much snow did you end up getting can't wait for your winter trip an ice fishing videos take care and stay safe and warm ... bob
dude its a fx4 it will go thru 3 ft of fresh snow .Believe i know we were hunting up north hear in Canada Ontario and we received a major drop of snow. 6 feet and the Government called in military to get out allot of hunters. We got out wagon train style but it was the ford fx4 that saved are bacon we pulled the chev"s mine too ,the dodges and the normal ford 4x4 out thru 10 miles of old loging road .took 6 hours to pull them all out it was a 5.4 Triton in that ford .i sold my chev 4x4 and now drive a ford fx4 . a mule of a truck .take care and have fun !
Thanks Karen. Within 2 weeks I plan on bringing the travel trailer down for Melissa in Louisiana then drive back up here, those videos of course go on my other channel that you already watch Northern Seclusion. I still have something like 6 more projects on the books to start and finish yet this season. After that which will be like usual, around the first of the year I will head down to get going on the house in Louisiana and have a couple of my guys drive down to help for a few weeks. Thank you, Joe.
say it aint so Joe! say it aint so..... i plow snow here in Michigan with that truck actually a bit smaller but you should have NO issue with 20" of snow!! good snow tires and 4 low you will pull your house over in 20"! lol you could have hooked every car you saw in the ditches to the back like a train and pulled them all out at once! i understand learning the truck i wouldnt want to be without till spring!!! hope you can hunt around home maybe get some meat for the freezer
The biggest issue which I should have explained in the video is the driveway. With the trees on each side and the 40 plus mph winds the snow likes to drift in two places. The one place is about a 2 hundred foot drift area. You can have 12 inches of snow on the ground and a drift thats 2 hundred feet long up over your waistline. This snow was a heavy wet snow and the temp was going to drop into the teens which would have made a couple hundred feet of a waist deep chunk of very hard snow. Just a little to much to chance for me. I bet the new girl would have made it though. lol lol.
no you said it in your other video i was loving on the truck lol any idea how much they ended up getting? i hear north west lower michigan got it good! i have a dusting on the ground im in south eastern mi. Steer clear of the drifts lol
Joe, have you ever had one of your blue water containers crack open from freezing water when you leave it at the tent. I want to leave water containers at my off grid cabin in northern WI but I'm afraid the containers will be ruined- they are not cheap either.
Bummer about missing the last 3 days of the season. They probably would have been moving good after the storm. But then again if you stayed and got a deer and couldn't leave that probably would have been way worse. Best to play it safe and get home safe, cause there's always next season. Just seems like forever when you go seasons with no deer. I'm in MA and in the last week of archery and still nothing seen a few just out of range. Hopefully better luck with shotgun season next week. Thanks take care joe glad you made it home safe.
Wow, bummer that you had to cut your season short this year, but better safe than sorry. Now you can look forward to heading somewhere warm. Do you know when you're leaving yet?
Really enjoy your videos. My sense is always avoid driving in that kind of weather...I think I would have just waited a day or 2. Too many cars on the ditch.
As I explained in the video though if I would have stayed there was a very good chance the truck would have had to stay at the tent until spring. They do not plow that road that goes the few miles to the tent driveway and you can not have it plowed because its federal and x country ski trails in the winter. The law is very clear about this. It was just a bit to scary for me to chance it lol. Thanks Raymond. Joe
Those deer just hunkered down in a thick stand of pines for a few days. Smart call. Although 20 years ago you would have probably rode out the stork...I know I would have. What was the storm total?
I definitely love these tent videos, I come back every year to watch them. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video Joe! Thought we might not get it after your video on the other channel saying you came back early. You made the smart move. We can wait till the mid winter trip.
Hi Joe. Another great video. My 2011 F-250 diesel with no modifications, just snow tires, has no problems with 20' of snow. Jim in Yosemite, Ca.
I really enjoy your channel!!!! So glad you made it home safe. Sometime could you do a video about how you constructed and insulated the tent, maybe even share some plans with us. I just watched this video, 4-7-2023. Awesome video. Thanks
Well looks like the best part of that trip was the pork roast, man that looked good!
Sorry to see the season cut short Joe. Love your stuff. Good you stayed safe. That's Mother Nature for, but there's always next time.
Love your videos Joe, I hate the weather pushed you out. I imagine it would be fun to get stuck up there for a while as long as you have plenty of firewood and food.

Nice video reminds me of up country here in Maine, That pork roast looked good, thanks for sharing
At least you got to give it a try. You made the right call getting out before the storm hit. Enjoyed the video.

Thank you for the nice comment. Some people complain but cooking up there takes up quite a bit of time, if I took that part out there would not be a whole lot to film. The cooking will stay in the videos. Thanks again. Joe
Really fun watching! Cool cabin! I know you've worked hard to create such a groovy situation!
Nice John Wayne movie you must have a good taste in movies.
Was wondering when did the tent get power so you could stop relying on the Honda 3000?
Little over 3 years ago I dug it in.
I could watch your videos all day, I love em! Raised on a lake in northern Wi, brings back a lot of memories.
Thats sounds awesome. Venison and fishing. Perfect. Thanks Gregory. Joe
May I ask does anyone know what radio station you tune into at the tent? Is it possible to get it on internet radio at all? cheers snack
Thanks for the video. You would be at home at our 100 year old log cabin in the Upper Peninsula.
Great video Joe, always look forward to them.
nice video joe thanks for share
Great video Joe!!!! Good call !!!!
Too bad for the crapy weather, it's either way too much snow or not enough, but still a good video as always Joe!
Love your videos joe!
I LOVE the sons of Katie elder!!
Can't believe you left your set up for the long haul in there
Another outstanding video, to bad about the weather but I think you made the right decision to cut the trip short.
Thank you for the nice comment. Joe
Most welcome Joe, you have a great channel and produce wonderful videos, I truly enjoy watching them. I've started taking more time with the editing of my moose hunting videos this fall. But when I get out in the woods the camera is the last thing I think about. It's only an after thought when I say to myself, I've should have recorded that... lol
i could easy fall in love with the beautiful cabin by the lake.
Would have been cool to see all that snow! Sounds like you made the right decision, great video, as always :)
joe we talked early this year I had just got my okl.
Joe
Ah. I should have been smart enough to deduce that. Thx. Stay warm and drive safe this winter. Many of us depend on you to remind us how to enjoy life
+singleman jimbo Good question bro.
great tent and your series of videos is fantastic, from the family traditions of hunting and fishing great you tube entertainment sir. bad luck on the early storm for the start of this years winter.
Plus your fathers cabin in other videos is a true out doors masterpiece , best of luck on your channel joe sir.
good call getting out of there when you did. I hope you and yours have the best of holidays to come.
Real life for you!
Thanks for sharing 🍻
Mongo Friend
Glad ya made back home safe good thing you didn't stay, any way of knowing how much you got up at the tent from that storm
Greg Dow like over 20 imches
Subscribed! .... I recognized some of the early roads you were crossing on your GPS as you were leaving town. Really great video, most enjoyable, I have not been hunting in about 4 years so it was good to see someone get out and make an effort. Cool hunting camp!
Thanks JP. Joe
How did that pork turn out with the apple wood?
It turned out awesome. The other roast I brought up I cooked tonight on my bbq I have here at home. It turned out EVEN better. That video I will post tomorrow on my other channel... Northern Seclusion. Thank you. Joe
That could have been your best deer hunting excursion ,have you taught about moving your deer stand closer to those tracks or place another one near there would make more fun and hunt
damn, I was really looking forward to a good deer hunting video with snow. I can't blame you for leaving though, and still. a good short video.
We got about a 1/4" of snow from this storm west of Milwaukee ...but the temps went from 60's to the 20's in 24 hrs.
Joe glad that you were able too at least get up for a night and morning hunt sorry that you didn't get 1 again I still haven't got 1also how much snow did you end up getting can't wait for your winter trip an ice fishing videos take care and stay safe and warm ... bob
I really enjoy your channel.
Thanks for sharing your experiences .
dude its a fx4 it will go thru 3 ft of fresh snow .Believe i know we were hunting up north hear in Canada Ontario and we received a major drop of snow. 6 feet and the Government called in military to get out allot of hunters. We got out wagon train style but it was the ford fx4 that saved are bacon we pulled the chev"s mine too ,the dodges and the normal ford 4x4 out thru 10 miles of old loging road .took 6 hours to pull them all out it was a 5.4 Triton in that ford .i sold my chev 4x4 and now drive a ford fx4 . a mule of a truck .take care and have fun !
very nice vifro. I like all ur videos. I'm a great fan of urs. I wanna meet u some day.
Well Joe better safe than sorry, better luck next time, have a safe trip down south!
Thank you, Joe.
miss Sarah I missed you in this video!!
Bad weather luck but good instinct on leaving!
say it aint so Joe! say it aint so..... i plow snow here in Michigan with that truck actually a bit smaller but you should have NO issue with 20" of snow!! good snow tires and 4 low you will pull your house over in 20"! lol you could have hooked every car you saw in the ditches to the back like a train and pulled them all out at once! i understand learning the truck i wouldnt want to be without till spring!!! hope you can hunt around home maybe get some meat for the freezer
New to the channel love your videos been watching for about a month now tell Sarah to get up an keep up the good work
Joe, have you ever had one of your blue water containers crack open from freezing water when you leave it at the tent. I want to leave water containers at my off grid cabin in northern WI but I'm afraid the containers will be ruined- they are not cheap either.
Good video. Thx.
Joe, any chance you got my video with the camp shower setup?
Awesome video! Cheers!
Joe
good videos.je vous suis sur youtube France..la nature y a que ca de vrai.bonne continuation.tank you.
What a great place in a beautiful spot, I can't imagine hunting with such luxuries.........
Those deer just hunkered down in a thick stand of pines for a few days. Smart call. Although 20 years ago you would have probably rode out the stork...I know I would have. What was the storm total?
really like your Channel makes me want to get my ass and my hat and go up to the North country Keep On Truckin
Really enjoyed - Thanks for the awesome video! The video was great!
