- Hello DIY'ers,
Today I show you how to fix your broken parking sensor PDC on your rear BMW bumper (parking sensor pushed into bumper). This is F10 5 series BMW M5 and someone lightly hit me in the back while stopped at a light. The PDC sensor bracket broke and sensor fell inside the bumper causing constant beeping.
I used super glue to glue back the sensor bracket to the bumper but it's better if you use construction adhesive or some sort of glue that is less fluid and can last few minutes before it dries.
Enjoy! :-) Видеоклипы
2018 Journey Crossroads - Someone backed into my right rear bumper at the Bloomington IL DMV yesterday. Lol! That parking lot is horrible. Barely any room. No major damage. I was able to pop the right rear corner panel back in perfectly and zip tie a small tab that was connected to the smaller silver bumper underneath the bigger bumper. Now, I just need to pop the scensor back into place. It didnt come out all of the way. Your video helps bc I didnt realize having to adhere the actual square housing, of the sensor, to the bumper inside. Thanks from rural hot & humid corn & soybean farmland Illinois 🥰
@@ritaillinois7951 good job for getting it fixed! Glad I was able to help. I lived in west Lafayette IN which is similar to what you’re describing about your area. I miss it 😊
@@GrindMyGears I'm very familiar with Lafayette Indiana. I lived in Frankfort Indiana for 12 yrs. I worked at JCPenney at the Tippecanoe mall a kzillion years ago. I❤️Indiana.
@@ritaillinois7951 omg that’s amazing! Speaking of tippecanoe mall, I literally just finished a perfume bottle that I bought from macys there probably in 2016 😆 not sure if you remember a coffee shop called grey house on Purdue campus. It was amazing until they remodeled it and ruined the place. I miss that whole place but it’s unbelievable how much more expensive it is now!
Such a wonderful help. I actually managed to replace the sensor that had fallen out. I'm amazed at how I was able to follow your detailed instructions and do it myself. It was a little tricky on a 316 as part of the back bumper underneath is covered in but I was able to put my hand in from the middle sorta sideways. I'm delighted and amazed. Thanks a million.
Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad I was able to help :)
I have the same issue on my 3 series. Thank you for helping!
You’re welcome! Glad I was able to help :)
This is very helpful, Thanks a lot!!!
You’re welcome! Glad I was able to help 😊
Great vid thanks! Will try this on my insignia vxr this weekend. Mrs car is a 2012 x1 and seems the same sensors so this vid is a huge help
Hope you got to fix it! It’s so annoying when this happens.
@@GrindMyGears yes thanks fixed it no worries :)
You r a legend man thank you so muchh
You’re welcome! Glad I was able to help :)
Same thing happened to my 1 Series F20, but i don't know yet if there's a hole to reach, if not i may have to sadly remove the bumper, which is a pain/hustle to do. Thanks for this, at least now, i have an idea, if it works for me.
I hope it works out!!
Someone swiped my car when it was parked and drove off. Was able to get the damage buffed out but one of my parking sensors fell in. About to try this.
Thanks.
Sorry to hear that!! Let me know how it goes.
Is that the same color as the bumper? How would you change the color to match it? Would you just get it painted attached to the bunper?
It’s not exactly black but it’s hard to notice from normal distance and also the car is dirty. I don’t think you should or can paint the sensor as it might ruin it and stop functioning properly because it needs to send the signal out and receive it and the paint layer might block that.
What does it show you inside the car? I have an f30 with the same issue and when i go to reverse none of the sensors work even though only one is popped off.
If none of the sensors work front or back then you have some other issue. In my case, the sensor would make constant beep as if you’re very close to some object and on the screen it shows red on the rear right corner. I think when none of the sensors work then probably one of them or more is totally dead but I could be wrong.
What do If it’s not a corner sensor?
Well, try to look from underneath and see if there is a way to reach it behind the bumper. If not then unfortunately you’ll have to remove the bumper to retrieve the sensor and position it back.
I backed up and hit this corner sensor and now I don't get any object indication from any rear sensor when I do reverse, even though only 1 corner is popped off. Does it mean entire rear sensor set is dead due to the accident?
I think the sensor itself is broken and not just fell off. It probably doesn’t function anymore which causes all sensors in the back to go out. You need to buy a new sensor and the rest will work again.
Same issue on my 320. The sticky material used on these sensors is just garbage and they fall off even at the slightest bump or if you ever need to replace your bumper, get ready for trouble (that’s what happened to me)
Hope you got it fixed!
What if glue gets on the front of the sensor in the process? Please advise
Yes you don't want the glue to come on the sensor itself. Try covering the sensor area with paint tape or similar to prevent glue from coming on it.
Does it clip in or just sits there,,top of mine has been pushed in
I think the sensor clips on the housing but the problem is the sensor and the housing fall off together sometimes and the housing is connected to bumper via plastic hot melt points so when it breaks then you’ll have to glue the bracket back.
@@GrindMyGears hi,I’ve managed to find a hole under my bumper that can just get my finger in to push it back flush but it doesn’t clip,,I put a drop of superglue on the lip of it to hold it but now getting a constant warning error and non of my back sensors are working now and flashing,,,can’t you recommend anything buddy
@@explorewithant8263 I think what happened is glue got on some part of the sensor and tricking it that there’s something in front of it. Are you sure no glue got on it at all? Are you able to pull it out and try to clean it and install it back? Or if you’re able to disconnect it and see if the others start working. Also there’s a chance the sensor is disconnected and might be triggering this mess. I know some older models behave this way when a sensor disconnected.
@@GrindMyGears it started working again today buddy,,not sure what’s going on,,can’t get to it to check so will see if it comes back on in couple of days and keep you posted pal 👍
@@explorewithant8263 hopefully it was just the sensor being a little wet from glue and now it’s dry and working? I hope the issue doesn’t come back.
Mine is completely enclosed and i can not get to it without taking bumper OFF. i am not good at that kind of thing so i took it to garage. They spent an hour and good not figure it OUT ! Great
Wow! Sorry to hear that! It’s such a pain in the butt and the way it’s designed is for the bumper cover to be removed. Maybe something is broken or missing in my car!? Lol
@@GrindMyGearsnah I think the wife hit it with something and she's not saying .... It's cold here now and my garbage isn't heated so I think I am going to get something sticky to pull it back through and epoxy ~ glue it like you said...
@@bob-pr8ye good luck! hope the fix goes smooth... I too hate working on cars in winter!
So if it fails again, how are you going to remove it if it’s glued in??
Nah, I’ll pass. 🤷🏽♂️
It won’t be hard to remove it. Parking sensors rarely fail so I doubt it’ll be a problem.
