I would like it if Barbie went back to their roots and made more fairytale like movies again, like Rapunzel and Magic of Pegasus. Those plots were original and magical.

@@elena-ri6pq yeah like in the early 2000s and earlier, little girls were into fairytales and fantasy movies but now little girls are I guess a bit more like adults and are always on their phone and trying to be trendy and keep up with new trends of different things and maybe Mattel thought girls now would think fairytale movies from barbie would be just boring

I get the new design of barbie where it’s all modern and the new characters but I really miss the old barbie style like in 12 dancing princesses and rapunzel. They had lovely dresses when they needed lovely dresses,not a turquoise shirt dress with inspirational messages on the front and the castles where actual castles, not bright pink cylinders with points

So much kid-oriented animation is still making their characters floss but tbh I think its because flossing is such a simple movement that it must be one of the easier "dance moves" to animate. So they probably still do it because its easier than animating characters doing like a tiktok dance or something idk what kids do now
Am I the only one who is disappointed that they changed Chealsea's hair from pig tails to let down. She's 6!!!!! Pigtails show youth and Chealsea is 6. Sure she is growing up, but still she looked show darn cute

@@Agatos8 hey! :) No there isn’t any offical statements to why, unfortunately. I did hear that the theory to why they changed the name is because by 2009 Chelsea was a much more popular and well known name compared to Kelly at the time though. It was just so sudden and out of the blue when A Perfect Christmas rolled around. At 10 years old I humoured myself thinking that they didn’t use Kelly for years that they just completely forgot her character even existed and were just like, “hey, let’s give Barbie a little sister! Completely original idea.” lol

They probably left out the Tiger/Giraffe in the sets so that anyone who buys them would be more inclined to buy the other one JUST to complete the set. Coming from someone who loves to have complete/full series of things (books, stuffed animals, etc.), I am confident that 8-year-old me would have fallen for the scheme!

When I was a kid I had a polly pocket beach/pool set really similar to this barbie one and it was the BANE of my parent's existence. They only let me play with it on the floor of the bathroom so I didn't get water all over the nice floors in the rest of the house.

The reason why I don't like the "newer" barbie movies is because almost every movie they force the "technology" from now and they try to make it relevant with the word choice and attitude of the character. But it just feels very forced to me. Not every movie there have to be phones and sickly bright colors and crazy challenges and stuff. I just miss that dreamy "story" feeling of barbie. in 2000 there were also computers but they didn't make the movie around it. I get it, but it doesn't have to be in every movie.
They want want to be relatable, hip and "cool" but it feels forced and not "normal". probably bc the makers of the movie are older than they want to relate to. So I just don't get, when you can't relate or experience the same feeling, just make another movie that is not supposed to be in "this dimension"..
Probably because fairytales type stories age waay better than techonolgy centered ones does. Like, disney's 1930s snow white is probably going to age way better than something like, idk, "Barbie in a video game". The past and the fairy tale aesthetic doesnt change, but techonolgy always does and it will look extremely dated in just a few years. Imagine something like the original Tron movie or, for something more current, every single late 90s and early 2000s cartoon appearance of computers and the internet.
And yeah, also because the people who are writing it are super old, barely know about it themselves and are using internet/meme/technology-related culture that have already been dead for a good while when the script was being made.
Also it is all very “woke” now… “GIRL EMPOWERMENT!!” So it may mean no more movies like the old movies😢

I'm not a big fan of the Barbie and her sisters universe in general, so I don't think I will like this one, it's always a hit or miss for me with the newer Barbie movies in general but I'm also not the target demographic anymore.
But one thing that bothers me is that the newest movies are in the same universe as Barbie dreamhouse adventures and I personally prefer it, if the movie stands on it's own while the newest movies feel like a special episode of dreamhouse adventures. But again, that's just me, who prefers the older Barbie movies.

I remember Kelly 😍 (I´m old), but in my head they didn´t change her name to Chelsea. She is just someone else and Barbie is kind of a guardian for her. The only movie that would make no sense because of this theorie would be "A Christmas Carol" because I think they say, that Barbie and Kelly are related. I don´t know. I can´t see Kelly and Chelsea as the same person.

probably to appeal to new gen of younger kids maybe? idk i grew up with her as Chelsea so i prefer that name. but both are still cute tho
I think of Kelly as a different person too. To me, Chelsea is her sister and Kelly was an old friend.
So I'm not 100% sure but it think it had something to do with Kelly kinda evolving into a older character though the years. It seems like the first Kelly was ment to be around like 3-4 as seen in the playsets where she's in a crib with a pacifier or a stroller then later on around Kelly Dream Clue era and after she definitely older maybe 8? Especially when they started making Kelly taller and slimmer and got rid of her baby fat. So I think they just took the 8year old version of kelly and made gave her a name and her made her, her own character, basically giving barbie a fifth sister. This also leaves room for the younger Kelly to come back. And if you look at the babysitter inc dolls, the "toddlers" are actually on the original Kelly body, so in a sense Kelly is still around but isn't a main character anymore.
I just remembered Kelly i had her i think with her cute little dress never realized Chelsea wants her :o

The characters in the dream were all people in real life so that's why the animals have the voices of her sisters. Also, I liked how the movie had a princess bride reference.

Hey Cait! Love your videos as a nostalgic junkie myself, your content is A+!! About the part of Ken not being in this movie but making an appearance in the Dolphin Magic movie; Since the current Barbie verse centers around Barbie’s RUclips vlogs, Barbie actually teased Dolphin Magic in one of her vlogs (i believe it was her own parody of Vogue’s 100 questions. But instead of 100 questions, it was 10. I could be wrong) and in that vlog, she said she was going to be visiting Ken over the summer because he was volunteering at a marine biology center. So in a way, Dolphin Magic’s excuse for having Ken around wasn’t just to add him there but because since he was already volunteering to begin with, Barbie and her sisters weren’t just taking a regular vacation together and they were simply just there to visit him while studying marine biology. Hope this info helped!!

I thought the movie was cute was it spectatuclar no i apreciate the wizard of oz influences from charchters too development of chelsea but its not your normal barbie movie its even the shortest movie and aimed for target demo of dreamtopia and honestly felt like an apetizer before the fall movie big city big dreams which sounds spectatuclar with a poc women as barbie and a MUSICAL 😍 count me IN

I enjoyed the Barbie movies a lot as a kid, especially the three originals. Now I have a 3 y/o daughter, and she saw pictures of my Barbie themed Birthday party and she became interested in Barbie. I have been watching the movies with her and she is obsessed with this movie, she identifies herself with Chelsea. I will definitely will have to get this set for her.

Great video! I just watched this movie, it was cute but I agree not one of the best. It took me a minute to realize the "animals" were the same voices as her sisters lol. I only recognized Skipper's voice as the tiger, then I realized they were all the same.
My four year old and eight year old nephews still floss so maybe Stacie flossing isn't too far off...

Sorry for being a late comment but the description of the alternative title is really funny to me. Also the merchandise I think why only three of them was in the one and a cake + present is because then you have to buy another set to get the tiger
I haven't seen the movie, but the whole Chelsea dreaming thing sounds very similar to Barbie Dreamtopia. Chelsea is also focused on in that movie/series as well and it also feels very childish. But the reality is that the age demographic for Barbies are lower than they were in the past and if they're catering to younger kids, it doesn't bother me. And the Barbie Color Reveals have lower quality hair and painted on clothes other than a skirt, hair pieces, and shoes. Even their tights are molded on. The mermaid ones have rooted hair though. But honestly, for $15-20, I just never felt the color reveals were worth buying and I feel that they cater to a younger audience rather (the kind of kids obsessed with surprise toys who get more enjoyment from the packaging/reveal than the actual toy itself.) rather than collectors. I heard the Barbie Extra dolls are pretty good though. And the made to move dolls are always great.

You know what i missed? Fairytales adventures! Not just finding a unicorn and going on Netlifx, that would be lame U-U I want an ACTUAL adveture with centaurs, pegasusses, nymphs. We never saw a Barbie centaur dool or a phoenix one. Seeing Barbie with one of her sister going in a magical world, meeting fantasy creatures and helping them defeating the villain; like in the Secret door; would be fun :D New songs, nice animation, likable characters, drama, action. I want all this stuff, not phones and Internet jokes. I'm tired to see the modern wolrd in Barbie movies, i want a fantasy world wit wood houses; waterfalls and rainbow flowers.

In Dolphin Magic it wasn’t a “family trip” they didn’t go just to go. They went to visit Ken while he was doing his marine biology internship there. It’s explained right in the beginning of the movie idk how people miss that. ❤
The animals were voiced by the sisters because each one represents a sister Darby (giraffe) is Barbie, sniffer (tiger) is skipper, Lacy (monkey) is Stacie, and Kelsey (elephant) is Chelsea

toys are sometimes put through production before movies are finished, which might be why the animal designs are different for the play set

Not sure if you're aware of this, but Mattel makes the dolls first and then gets the movie made. The filmmakers have to come with a story based on the toys

I’m a veteran. I don’t approve of new Barbie movies.
Honestly, I'm not really planning on watching this movie, because I am more attached to the old Barbie movies, because of the fantastic, fairytale-esque storylines, well, except for The Barbie Diaries, since it more gives off a 2000s teen movie vibe, but I still love the Barbie Diaries though.
So, I hope that the Barbie movies would go back to their roots in the future.
