Lang Lang lacks authentic emotion, listen to Daniel Barenboim's version, you'll see what I mean. If you don't, then you don't understand what true emotion and dynamic is. The problem with Lang Lang here is that he is using too much of his emotion to move his body, when almost all of it should be used to play the piano.
Well, if you ask the folks at Mozarteum de university, they will say that Lang Lang starts create his own mozart and isn't playing the traditional mozart that he meant in his music. Whatever that means. i think i know. but isnt' that what individual interpretation is all about ? I really want to hear Lang Lang play the concerto no 25, i think that would be really interesting. it is most like the Beethoven piece and requires certain bravado, if you will and Lang will be perfect for something like this.
However I listen to Lang Lang, live, recorded, with video, sound only, with full concentration, as background, he is wonderful. Where other classical artists often look pained or terrified, Lang Lang seems to enjoy every note and conveys that pleasure in sound to our ears as well as our eyes. A truly revelatory performer.

Wow. That is superb. He observes every detail of the score, but keeps your attention all the time with his variety of touch and subtle balance of the different parts. Some people might prefer more non-legato in the unslurred sections, but that often sounds artificial on a modern piano. I like Lang Lang's way. I was so involved in the music that I did not even notice his habitual strange expressions and theatrics.
Lang Lang is at his absolute best, when he behaves himself and follows the score as he's doing right here;) He's prone to inappropriate theatrics, but when constrained by a highly detailed composer or a skilled conductor, he is amazingly good.
Why are a few people talking about his pedaling? I think he pedals so lightly, and you have to remember that its not the same sound, feel or even completely same instrument that Mozart was using, Lang Lang really brings out the expression in this piece flawlessly in my opinion.
I love to see Lang Lang playing! Besides how magnificent he plays the piano and his confidence; he looks like he is having a great time while conversing with the peace, enjoying the moods and the movements. Like the piano is talking to him and he responds accordingly. Very few professional pianists have this beautiful showmanship characteristic.💖

This is masterly Mozart .... beautifully clear playing full of classical poise. Not like Barenboim of Uchida but equally valid and refreshing. LOVED it !
Here, i may forgive his "absurd bodily expressions." That is because of the beauty conveyed throughout the entire performance. IMO, it's as almost as good as Barenboim's fantastic recording. Listen without watching the video, and with well-trained ears, you may realize that this is delicate, beautiful, clean, respectful, and even humble Mozart.

Artur Schnabel was a great pianist. I've 3 CDs of his work. But then he died more than 60 years ago, and we cannot expect him to perform live anymore. Better to invest in a living pianist like Lang Lang, who is still young, then to like someone already dead.

If you watch Lang Lang play, it is easy to see how some could be put off by his body motions, facial expressions, etc. But this is completely unimportant. Close your eyes and listen to the music and his interpretation. Then critique that. Everything else is superfluous. For my part, I do not find his interpretation appealing. His performance evokes nothing from me except an appreciation for the technical prowess of a capable pianist. I have heard many interpretations that have greater appeal to me. Vladimir Horowitz is the gold standard for this sonata. Mitsuko Uchida is a close second. If you disagree, and are moved by Lang Lang's interpretation, great. It is fair to state one's preference for an interpretation. But extrapolating that to a comment about who is more talented is ridiculous. They are all amazingly talented individuals who have achieved heights the rest of us can only dream of.
Western or 'classical' music is rooted in the Church and European aristocracy; not surprisingly it is devoted to 'elevation' in every sense of the word. i sorta feel like i just found the holy grail. lang lang's mozart is fucking breathtaking and so charming. we almost dare not whisper: he almost sounds like ... mozart himself much of the time. there is an innocent clarity which is absolutely sincere and loving

Mozarts pianos had no pedals, but his later ones had knee lever where you could lift the moderation. Thats like using pedal, and even if he had`nt one why should we dont use it? we have one and it sounds good if we use adequat.

his comedic act is very similar to Glenn Gould and others who showed off ridiculously while performing publicly: acting funny onstage, whispering, trembling like a madman, jumping, etc.It seems a novelty for beginners but it's an old trick to play the "inspired by heaven" and "I'm whispering things to a dead composer while playing" style.CHOPIN personally abhorred these BASE TRICKS, read his biography and learn what he thought about his pupils and other pianists who made a fuss while performing

You can solve this by shutting your eyes. I do this often at concerts and it help to concentrate on the music and not be distracted.

his comedic act is very similar to Glenn Gould and others who showed off ridiculously while performing publicly: acting funny onstage, whispering, trembling like a madman, jumping, etc.It seems a novelty for beginners but it's an old trick to play the "inspired by heaven" and "I'm whispering things to a dead composer while playing" style.CHOPIN personally abhorred these BASE TRICKS, read his biography and learn what he thought about his pupils and other pianists who made a fuss while performing
