Another brilliant vid mate. Ur've got me agitated now." As I want to get out their and start fishing. " but due to something wrong with my right kidney." I'm very much grounded at the moment. As ive said before, keep up with the great vid's. I wish you could get ur own TV channel and get to do ur own thing." Cause you know your stuff" and explain everything you do very well. Tight lines. Matt
Matt Webster - Oh no, well fingers crossed you’re up and fishing soon Matt. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the vids and that the content is useful to you. It’s great to know that the information is coming across well and it’s not just a “look at this fish” video. 👍🏻🎣😁
@@TheFishLocker I get what u mean. I watched a few vid's on how to catch bass, the other day and saw them cast out a couple of times and suddenly a bass was on the floor flapping about ". U didn't see them hooking up" and playing the fish."and then landing it. Which is all important to the vid". U my friend have hit the nail on the head ! U explain in detail what ur doing, what ur going to target and also explain in detail about different aspects of things as ur fishing. My Mrs has got on to me for a few years now" about making fishing vid's. But I've got major spine damage which has got worse over the last 20 years or so and this year could be my last year fishing. I'm hoping I hav a bit longer than that to go." But time will tell ? But all the same " just keep those vid's coming mate as it gives me something to watch when iam stuck in the house and not out fishing. 👍
Matt Webster - I’m really sorry to hear you are laid up and can’t get fishing - which is something you clearly enjoy a lot. I would definitely encourage you to do some vids if it’s something you think you would enjoy. It would be a terrible shame for all that accrued experience and knowledge of yours to not be getting shared with people. Give it a go mate 👍🏻🎣 In the mean time I will try and keep the vids coming 😉
Matt Webster - When I sat down and thought about doing the vids and which ones to do next etc. I looked around at what was about, some are great but a lot are either a bit daft or don’t actually teach/share an awful lot. I really wanted to be able to help folks learn. And hopefully in return they would share what they have learnt to others. Fishing is my passion, and I love seeing people enjoying catching fish. If we all shared what we know, we’d all know a lot more. 👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker yes i feel the very same way. My goal in life was to win the lottery and by a 50ft boat and every Sunday take kids out fishing" totally free of charge."and teach them how to fish." Rather than them hanging around causing bother somewhere. When I was aged 20, my dad bought a 21ft boat for me and I used to take all the kids around my neighbourhood out fishing for just £2- for 6 - 8 hours fishing. Just enough to cover my diesel cost and to help replace lost fishing gear. Yes I suppled 8 boys with fishing rods, reels and tackle as well. My back is completely done in now. And it's a struggle just to get out fishing now and then. But iam glad ur on the ball and ur heading in the right direction when it comes to making videos. Just keep the bedroom ones private though. Lol 😃 😃 In a series note" I wish you the very best with your vid's mate" and iam sure you will do well. Matt
Great vid dude... And it is a pleasure to see someone releasing fish. Most of the times I am out there fishing I don't take any fish only when the wife ask me to get her fresh one for dinner and it's only for her ( I eat only fresh mackerel) so everything goes back in the water. Exelent education vid for beginners( always good to have several methods for fishing... you never know what's hiding near the shore). Love your vids. All the best.
Ivan Topchiyski - Thankyou very much Ivan, I fully agree with you. We try to release probably 95% of the fish we catch. Unless it’s something special or it’s deep hooked etc and won’t survive. Tight lines 👍🏻🎣🐟
Great video, I realise this is an old video now and your definitely far more experienced than I am but a little tip for your shallow float setup, when I fish shallow like this with a float I take an old set of feathers and cut them down so there is only 3 of the hooks left, and I just slightly weight the bottom of the trace with a big split shot, has worked a real treat!
Portsmouth Angler - Thanks mate. A little scratching float rig like that is a great way to not only pass the time whilst you’re waiting for something bigger but is a really fun way of fishing - I think so anyway. Summer time using live prawn is deadly for wrasse and bass. 😉🤫
Will Hayes - Definitely turned out well mate. Thanks, it’s taken a while to break that 10lb barrier!! They’re a species that I often gets overlooked but I really like them. Really interesting to look at. During the summer down here the local thornies get a jet black nose. Not sure if it’s breeding colours or what?
@@TheFishLocker every weekend when I was a lad in Essex, eels, flounders and winter cod in the Thames. Moved to Hampshire but the shore fishing has gone from bad to dire. Haven't been for a year or so but the bass are still around in numbers if you know where to go.
Whitegos - I fished a bit from the shore when I was living in Portsmouth. It was ok, plenty of bass around like you say. I’ll be planning a trip down that way this year on the hunt for an Undulate Ray.
john wrasse - It can be feast or famine at that mark. I’ve had some great days ( like that one ) yet I’ve known anglers blank 4 session in a row there. I mention roughly where it is in another vid if you’re curious 😉🤫🎣
Since finding your channel, this is what I love about yout vlogs - transparency and explaining everything, no hidden secrets! You have highlighted for me, a couple of things that I used to do, but somehow don't anymore! Keep up the good work! PS. My PB Thornback was from the River Mersey (Wirral side) 18.2lbs, that was 9yrs ago now. Thought it was a snag and tried pulling for the break - then the snag took off down River😂

Ive fished rivers and pools in the midlands for 30 yrs and so excited to have the change of sea fishing....hopefully I can get enough masonry work and also meet a misses who is into fishing , then ill be living the dream haha. Nice one, i've learnt a lot, cheers!

Enjoyed sat on the rocks watching John...Thanks for the trip! Great session, think you half expected a ray...but not two and a pb! It really came over you did not expect a codling! Some great tips too. Cheers till next time
Colin Goodland - I am glad you enjoyed watching. The target was rays. I always hope for a PB 😛 - and yes you are absolutely right, I did not expect a codling.haha. I’ve had them there before from the shore and the boat but it was still a very welcome surprise. If you have watched the “How to...” vid for my version of the up and over rig it is this mark that I describe using it on. Mentioning rays, Huss, straps and the very occasional codling 😉

Should travel to the U.S. and try fishing off the shores of New York City, Staten Island or Long Island, I’m curious to see what is in our waters here. Dad & I only have caught crabs, Porgy fish and a few bass.
- We have been to the US but only fished in Texas, we had a great time. Your waters are always so fertile!! Hopefully we will have the chance to fish there again in the future. :)
The Fish Locker that’s awesome! Up here in New York our water is so dark as a kid you could barely see any life, I’ve only seen a large amount of marine life when Shark Week was here filming and they showed what sharks are in our waters. Pretty awesome to see!
ducicek - If you know anyone else who you think would benefit, please share the vid on and get them to subscribe, I’d really appreciate it. The more the merrier 😊

Trying to imagine my 12 year old daughters reaction if I said come on I’m taking you fishing. Little lad loves it but she’d look at me like I’d gone chuffin mad 😂 loving the videos John never sea fished but learning loads 👍 top man

Great vids, iv'e been thinking about going shore fishing for ever as the west Clare coast is only 30mins away. When the kids were young we dabbled but no luck so now i'll try again with a simple float rig. Thanks for providing great advise.
Zeke Fishy - The mackerel and garfish just never left mate. It’s been very mild until recently. Hopefully this will mean the visitors from further south will get here early as well this year.
Most our wrasse are palm size and you will only really catch them around structures. Most of our beaches are shallow and full of small pebbles and our rock marks are mainly chalk cliffs. Do you get many different species of wrasse down your way?
Float fishing!! Great you reminded me of the late seventies float fishing for billet from Brid harbour wall. we got mussells in a polystyren cup from a Tiny tackle shop on the quay 😉👍 halcyon days
Jonathan Ben - Thanks Jonathon. Other than things like mackerel for bait etc, we release 95% of the fish we catch. Unless it’s something super tasty or that is deep hooked etc we like to practice catch and release as much as possible. 👍🏻😉🎣
As you are putting most of the fish you catch back, have you considered not using a two hook rig where there's more possibility of deeply gorged hook that you might have difficulty disgorging the lower hook like you had with the ray, possibly badly damaging the fish getting it out or leaving the hook behind? I was glad that you got got the lower hook out. That said I love your enthusiasm and your love of the fish.
I find that when compared side by side the number of deep hooking cases when using just using singles favours the pennels. The top hook catches the mouth so the second is never swallowed very far. Whereas a single can sometimes go all the way down. But a good question well put. 👍🏻😊
Mark Laing - Thanks Mark, welcome and I’m really glad you’re enjoying the vids. I’ll do my best to keep knocking them out, if you have any suggestions for future vids you think would be helpful to folks or that you’d just like to see. I’ll do what I can 😉👍🏻🎣
Well done chap. A great day with the daughter and a beast of a Ray, it can't get much better. Keep working on the Westcountry accent, it's coming along nicely 😉

Can't beat fishing with the kids :) My daughter also caught a few nice wrasse last summer, we had a great time on the rocks the wife was even good enough to deliver us a pizza and chips once 🤣. Congrats on the PB
Nikko Bee - That’s how great memories are made mate. Not day at home with the TV. My wife really enjoys fishing too so comes with us whenever she can. We really try to be an “outdoors” family it’s great fun, especially living where we do. 👍🏻🎣
I used to fish there I recognized where your fishing from the video a good mate of mine an i would fish there about 3 to nights a week when we where on night shift when we were in your 20s thanks for the memories cheers
- It can be a great mark can't it. Tight lines Roy. 😊
@@TheFishLocker I,m 68 now and live in Australia once again thanks for the memories.
Matt
Just came across your channel now - amazing. Love the style and your manner. Great relaxing video!👍🏻
One Day - Thank you very much. Welcome to our channel and I hope you enjoy the rest of our content. 😊👍🏻🎣
I do that for garfish. I cast it as far as I can and let it drift to a distance then slowly retrieve it. Killer for garfish.
Awesome video as usual mate! What a day! I’ve never really used a float but I’m looking forward to giving it a try.
Portsmouth Angler - Thanks mate. A little scratching float rig like that is a great way to not only pass the time whilst you’re waiting for something bigger but is a really fun way of fishing - I think so anyway. Summer time using live prawn is deadly for wrasse and bass. 😉🤫
I am not a fisherman but still enjoy your vids
- Thank you Ian. I am glad that you find our videos good viewing. :)
You can get a little tub of mussel meat from Asda for a pound which make good bait for a float rig
- You can collect a tub of them on the rocks for nothing. 😊
The Fish Locker doesn’t stay on the hook as well though 😁
Red letter session! Some good tips aswell. Congratulations on the pb. Inspired to get back on it for a Thornie!
Excellent. I'm heading to Dartmouth in a couple of weeks and you've inspired me to give the beach a try.
Whitegos - That’s great mate. Do you do much shore fishing?
@@TheFishLocker every weekend when I was a lad in Essex, eels, flounders and winter cod in the Thames. Moved to Hampshire but the shore fishing has gone from bad to dire. Haven't been for a year or so but the bass are still around in numbers if you know where to go.
@@TheFishLocker always have a spinning rod in the car whereever we go. I live in hope......
Whitegos - I do exactly the same. I have a little fishing kit in the van 99% of the time just in case. 😉
Whitegos - I fished a bit from the shore when I was living in Portsmouth. It was ok, plenty of bass around like you say. I’ll be planning a trip down that way this year on the hunt for an Undulate Ray.
Very enjoyable videos...interesting, informative and easy to watch. Thanks!
Thank you Jake, I am glad that you enjoyed the video. 😊👍🏻
Great Vid,love the look of that mark.
john wrasse - It can be feast or famine at that mark. I’ve had some great days ( like that one ) yet I’ve known anglers blank 4 session in a row there. I mention roughly where it is in another vid if you’re curious 😉🤫🎣
Cracking again John, thanks mate.
- My pleasure Russell. I still haven't beaten that Thornback yet. :P
Simon Ross - Thankyou very much Simon, really glad you are enjoying the content. As you say, nothing fancy, no secrets just sharing what we love doing. 😊👍🏻🎣🐟
Only just found your channel. And I'm well happy I did to be fair cracking content please keep them coming mate
- Thanks Kevin and welcome to the channel. I hope you enjoy the rest of our content and if you have any questions just give the vid a comment. I'll do my best to get back to you. Tight lines mate.
Great video as usual John 👍Well done on the PB ray 😃
Gary Shears - Thanks Gary, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. This PB was a big deal for me, it’s taken a good while to break that 10lb barrier from the shore. Long may the good fishing continue 🤞🏻🤞🏻🎣😉
Good stuff, reminded me of so much I had forgotten
- It is our pleasure Gabriel, life is a learning experience. :D
Congratulations on the p.b. mate, you had one hell of a smile walking up the rocks.
remi naftel - Haha. That’s why we do it mate. I just love fishing!!! It’s taken some doing breaking that 10lb barrier so I was even happier once I’d weighed it. 👍🏻😁
Congratulations on your shore caught ray pb mate, cracking fish. Really enjoy your videos too, plenty of hints and tips that I'll be using in my shore fishing. Tight lines and stay safe buddy 👍🎣
frosty 1971 - Thanks mate. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the videos and finding them useful. Could you do me a favour. Pick your favourite video or any that you think your friends would benefit from and share them on. I’d really appreciate it. 😊🎣👍🏻
@UCnfvGJ1TY-BG6-vzoLU1fSw yes mate of course I can, not a problem. The most difficult task is deciding on which one's as I think they're all pretty damn good 🤔😊👍🎣
frosty 1971 - Haha. Well don’t feel like you only have to share one then. 😬
Loving your videos John! Im moving to Falmouth area in the summer, We only have one life and I will be very happy spending a lot of my time fishing cornwall! Ive fished rivers and pools in the midlands for 30 yrs and so excited to have the change of sea fishing....hopefully I can get enough masonry work and also meet a misses who is into fishing , then ill be living the dream haha. Nice one, i've learnt a lot, cheers!
- Thats the dream right there mate. Good luck James. 😊
Cheers! Yep, a year locked down in London has broke me. Gotta live the life I want, hopefully can make it work:) Cheers, tight lines mate
Loved this video thanks for sharing. When i go rock fishing ilike to have one on the bottom and one float or spinning. Nice Ray and codling.👍
- Thank you Nigel, yes I always like to mix it up a bit and cover a few bases. It makes more sense doesn't it. And keeps you busy. Glad you enjoyed the video, tight lines and all the best. :)
Nice little cod to end the day. Glad I subscribed.
Will Proctor - Aye, she was a happy bonus fish. Always nice to see. Glad you’re enjoying the content Will. Tight lines. 😊👍🏻🐟
@@TheFishLocker To you too mate. I'm in Cornwall as much as I can be on away days and holidays. Awesome place to be and amazing scenery. Keep up the good work. :)

Loved the vid mate great hints and tips will keep watching for more! Tight lines 👍🏼
Steven Beckett - Thankyou very much mate, I’m really glad you’re enjoying the vids. 👍🏻🎣
Congrats on the Ray 👍

First time I have seen any of your videos great watch
Sean Michael Mcparland - Thanks Sean I’m glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the others and find them useful. All the best 👍🏻🎣

Entertaining, well done gals and guys.
THE SANT JORDI GOLF SOCIETY Adrian Cox - Thankyou very much. 👍🏻🎣
Amazing as always, Sir!
- Thank you John. It is our pleasure. :)
Another excellent and informative video mate just keep them coming as they are.
Great thornie never had one of those, plenty of smalleyes best being a pair of tens off loe bar years ago.
looking forward to getting out soon.
Stuart Allen - I’ve never landed a small eyed from there yet. But there’s always time 😉👍🏻🎣
Should travel to the U.S. and try fishing off the shores of New York City, Staten Island or Long Island, I’m curious to see what is in our waters here.
Another quality video. 👌
Glad you enjoyed it Darrin. 😊
Keep up the good vids helps me out a lot all of the tips.
ducicek - No problem mate. Glad you found it useful. 👍🏻🎣😉
ducicek - If you know anyone else who you think would benefit, please share the vid on and get them to subscribe, I’d really appreciate it. The more the merrier 😊
Great videos, I found your channel yesterday. Greetings from Boston Massachusetts.
A A - Hi there, nice to meet you. Welcome to our channel. 😊👍🏻🎣🐟 All the best from Cornwall in the UK. 😉🇬🇧
The Fish Locker
👍
great vid did know you could catch mackeral and garfish in the winter
laurance moseley - The last week has been great for them round Falmouth.
Congrats on your pb Ray mate
Les Edwards - Cheers Les, it’s taken me a good while to break that 10lb barrier from the shore. Had to wade through a lot of 5lb males. Hopefully that’s the first of many 😉🎣
Trying to imagine my 12 year old daughters reaction if I said come on I’m taking you fishing. Little lad loves it but she’d look at me like I’d gone chuffin mad 😂 loving the videos John never sea fished but learning loads 👍 top man
Our daughter is now nearly 16, and you will notice that she doesn't feature as often as she used to. We simply aren't cool enough to hang around with anymore. 😉😛
@@TheFishLocker Parent's fate ;-)
Brilliant video and very informative, cracking Ray well done 👍 on the pb.👏👏🎣🎣👍
gary murray - Thanks Gary, I’m really glad you enjoyed it and found the video informative. It is the hope when making them that they are useful to people. 👍🏻🎣 Fingers crossed for a few more fish like that big girl in the future. 😉
Ive been randomly watching for days and i cant stop. Love the content, so cool how you explain what everything is and how to do everything youre doing. You live in a beautiful place as well!
- Thank you Carrina, we are simply sharing what we love doing. Hopefully by explaining everything it will help others to enjoy it to. :D
Nice video. Look forward to seeing more.
Fisken DK - Thankyou very much. I’m glad you enjoyed the vid. If you have any suggestions for future vids let me know. If I can do it I will. 👍🏻🎣
Fishing into and during the night is always fun to watch. We do it ourselves quite a lot here in Denmark.
Fisken DK - I enjoy a night session to, the only thing that has stopped me doing more night time session vids is its difficult to get the lighting right for recording. 👍🏻
Cracking sesh that was John, that was a beaut Thornie mate congrats 👍🎣
basa364 - Cheers bud, I was buzzing when I caught it but even happier when I weighed it!! Haha. Fingers crossed for a few more sessions like that. 🤞🏻😉🎣
Nice definitely a run of rays at the moment that was huge though. Makes me want to fish there again 🤔
Callum Duncan - I’ve had to wade through plenty of those 5lb males to get to her though mate. 😉
Yeah put in the time and technique to get there great vid btw
Callum Duncan - Thankyou very much mate. I might try and target other rays from the shore this year, we’ll see how it goes 😉🎣
Great vids, iv'e been thinking about going shore fishing for ever as the west Clare coast is only 30mins away. When the kids were young we dabbled but no luck so now i'll try again with a simple float rig. Thanks for providing great advise.
I was just thinking, show us how you get the hook out of that ray, thank you that's a great tip
- If you have any questions about any of the other videos just eave me a comment. ;)
Cracking video matey loved every min of it ....
Keith Scott - Thanks Keith, glad you liked it. I was really glad the vid turned out ok on this session as I really enjoyed it. 👍🏻🎣
Another fantastic video, keep up the great work 👍👍
donal kelleher - Thankyou very much. If you have any suggestions for other vids please let me know. 👍🏻🎣
Dydh da! Between watching the Fish Locker and Poldark it's time to get to Cornwall. Omlowenhewgh agas boes!
- Cornwall is a wonderful place. :)
Summer species already😁, awesome vid as always👍👍👍
Zeke Fishy - The mackerel and garfish just never left mate. It’s been very mild until recently. Hopefully this will mean the visitors from further south will get here early as well this year.
Great stuff. I wish we had wrasse like that down in sussex. Tight lines!
Fishing_bug - I’m surprised you don’t mate, I thought they were pretty much everywhere? Just more common down on the south west and Devon.
Most our wrasse are palm size and you will only really catch them around structures. Most of our beaches are shallow and full of small pebbles and our rock marks are mainly chalk cliffs. Do you get many different species of wrasse down your way?
Fishing_bug - In the summer time you can get 5 species if you put the effort in - Ballan, cuckoo, corkwing, Goldsinney and Rock cook.
You seem to be a magnet for surfers / kayaks / other boats when youre fishing hahaha!! Another great video though!
Craig Webb - 🤷🏻♂️ God knows what it is? The universe testing my patience maybe? 🤣👍🏻🎣
I thought same. I live in Canada and majority would have given her an 'oy...do you mind'.
Cool video pal . Cracking fish
Chazeroo25 - Thanks bud. Tight lines. 👍🏻🎣
Float fishing!! Great you reminded me of the late seventies float fishing for billet from Brid harbour wall. we got mussells in a polystyren cup from a Tiny tackle shop on the quay 😉👍 halcyon days
- Haha. I haven't heard them called Billet in over a decade. We used to do the same thing for them in Whitby.
good stuff. Good sport letting them go. nice vid
Great stuff mate...fairly new to watching your vids but love them. Keep at it mTe.
Dan Foley - West Country accent?!?! 😲 How very dare you!!!! Haha. I feel like I’m going to have to be extra northern in the next vid. 😛 I’m glad you enjoyed the vid, we had a great day. 👍🏻🎣
you always give good tips John, thanks for the informative vid as usual M8, Tel G
My pleasure mate. 👍🏻🎣
