My Grandmother loved this book and introduced it to me when I was small. She died near Christmas in a car wreck, but whenever I listen to this audiobook, I always feel like she's listening with me
Ed Asner is an incredible narrator and he has the perfect voice for it. Thank you for posting it, I've lost count how many times I've listened to it and I love it! 👍🙂
I’m not particularly fond of Sci-Fi and this is my first exposure to a Michael Crichton novel (I’m really grateful that my first Crichton is in audiobook format. I’m 22 minutes into the audiobook and I can already say that the narrator’s voice & speech pattern are adding a great deal to the pleasure I’m experiencing listening to my first Michael Crichton novel in audiobook formatI can only hope that as some novels have done in the
I love audio books like this! I know someone mentioned that the ambience sound effects got grating, but I adore when audio books include them. I have aphantasia and imagining can become difficult some times. (Ironic considering the imagination speech in this) I’ve listened to other audio reading of books and the only other one I absolutely enjoyed was produced similar to this. It was a reading of Alien. Each character had their own voice actor, and each action had a corresponding sound effect. Footsteps on the metal grate floors, the ship creaking, alarms, sounds of guns firing and capsules falling, even the Xenomorphs screeched, etc. Anyways I adore this reading and it’s one I will definitely be returning to for a relisten.
This takes me back to my teenage years. Fantastic book and author. For some reason my favourite Chrichton book has always been Timeline. Very underrated imo.
Great read by Ed Asner of Crichton's story. This audio book is better than the movie. The film wasted its actors and potential with inept direction and convoluted script. This audio book is far superior.
I listened to this for a while and also checked out the comments. someone said the whole book was on YT, so I went to listen to that instead. it was interesting and I got to where they discovered the sphere, but there was so much bickering and everyone was doing what they wanted to with no one really in charge - and it was so stupid, I just got incredibly bored and came back to this version. and began where I left off. it was just great! Asner does a great job and this abridged version was so much better! sometimes a writer needs an editor, whether he or she likes it or not!! :) 😛
@@arman757who are you telling to listen to the book? I am only asking because the comment you seem to be replying to said they had already listened to the full version and found it hard to listen to and this version better. Is that easier for you to understand or are you just wanting people to stop listening to this one and support your version. Also I have never known a book improve the more people that read from it. What I do know is he does a good job of reading a good book.
@@arman757 must be nice to be able to give up 12 hours of your day to listen to a audiobook. I have kids so I don’t have the time. This version is under 3 hours and very well read and easy to listen to when going to sleep
A great story, and an excellent actor to narrate it, but the publisher has so little faith in both, that the plot is disemboweled and the audio is stunk up with ridiculous special effects.
Space and time travel possible in the future , unlikely with the way the universe is set up. I am going to put on my Sci Fi hat , which I have just discovered I have, Image that our Cosmos is computer generated and controlled by an outside agency. Then anything becomes possible , something sitting down playing the ultimate game . What fun you could have , throw in a UFO or two , and watch the turmoil.
I love Asner's reading, but I hate the abridgment. Especially when another reader comes on to sum up sections of the book that have been cut, it's just clunky. Really wish there was an unabridged (or less abridged) recording of Ed Asner reading this.
Yeah, I read the whole book before listening to this. It is severely chopped up, and it's not just abridged, but they cut out parts and then replace those parts with one or two sentences that sound like something written by a 'Cliffs Notes' writer. They dumb it down and simplify it very noticeably.
This is a good reading, but I can't stand Jerry's voice. It's like listening to a 1950's sci-fi movies' idea of how a robot should talk. With terribly long stupid breaks in each syllable. It's painful to listen to. It almost kills the whole story. Thanks for the upload.

Agreed, he’ll of an actor
Absolutely top content and narration by a fine actor Ed Asner.
Thank you for this service. Always an avid reader , unable now due to deteriorating eyesight, loving discovering this service. Saner awesome reader!

Have you read Prey yet? It’s definitely another great one from Crichton
Ed Asked did such a great job narrating this! 👏👏👏👏
Ed Asner did ok too
@@pj1909Ed Asked and they let him… 😂 Ok, I see the door.

Totally agree!
It was just too loud to be enjoyable. Needed to bring it down a little
Same! I love readings with sound effects!!!!!!! I can close my eyes and feel really immersed ❤
I just love Michael, start reading after Stephen King talk about him in one of his books
Rarely enjoy sci-phi but anything with Ed Asner, I'll go for.
WTF is "sci phi"
Science "phiction?"

For some reason my favourite Chrichton book has always been Timeline. Very underrated imo.
Personal choice for me is, Prey.
Timeline was excellent. ❤
I loved Prey and I loved Timeline so much I read it twice.
science, engineering, physics, chemistry. plenty of things to share with each other
I get about an hour into this and I start freaking out. 😮
Why?
Absolutely amazing work.
I always think “suck it Spotify” when I listen to audiobooks on RUclips
🙌🙌🙌
One of my favorite books on audio. Asner does an amazing job. Andromeda Strain is my favorite. There are two versions of it.
It's 2 hours and 40 min. long. I'm glad it's the abridged version 😂

Thankyou
Great story thanks

You should listen to the the full book, this abridged version is basically the movie script read by one person

Poor audio, but Ed Asner shines through, as always.

Music is too loud.

My sentiments also. Some background sound's just felt inappropriate. Though the story & narration are outstanding.
Good narration, but I dont like the sound affects.

Bait ?
Was this a narration from the screenplay rather than the book?
It certainly is highly edited .
Made it
Please kill the distracting background music and sounds.... It's unneccesary
Entertaining, but . . . ‘Jerry’ is repeated so often I’ll not listen to this audiobook again.
Sorry. Too much noise. Give me the beauty of stellar narration alone. Not thrilled with Asner's voice.
Great rendition however those corny musical montages are annoying and unnecessary.
Abridged ? Lol
Yup, it’s SEVERELY abridged (I’m not a big fan of book abridgements)….the full book read by Scott Brick is a hundred times better.

Butchered would be a better term
Why are you here then? Some people just want a short story
Keeps playing stupid music over narration.
i could not listen to this because of the screeching background drowning out the words of the actors and the voice effects ruined it for me

It's supposed to sound like a text to speech synthesizer from the late 80's early 90's
Then read the book instead of listening. Or, find a different version. Happy trails!
badly written drivel.
This comment is dumb

To say something is "badly written" using profoundly bad grammar is very funny. I'm no grammar expert but that's so silly.
Because he didn’t put a capital letter on a sentence in RUclips? Wow. It’s RUclips. I’m sure he knows when to insert capital letters, ass
And btw. I didn’t put a period at the end of my sentence. Call the police.
