My dads long favorite movie watch's this at least three times a year, saddly my dad passed away back in Jan of this year he bc was 84 yrs old...rest well dad miss u very much and merry Christmas...🤗🤗🤗
The Man had taste!! In is memory you ahould undertake to Read this Marvel. I read the book long after seeing the movies and myyyyy ggggooooddddd ...the movie is good...the book is freakin insane...Read IT and youll understand why
Gianni...Read the book...you think the movie is good.....Read that Brick!!! The movie is merely the tip of the iceberg. Itssssss freakin aaaawwweeesommmmeeee
The book outclasses the film any day. Well read. Far more realistic than the film. As is the usual case when a book is made into a film. Superbly read .
his voice is so perfect for anything 80s Cold War related! He can declare great over the top liners "bring a good supply of body bags...eat stuff that would make a billy goat puke!". And here he is doing a classic tom clancy novel, charmingly using a russian accent as needed. RIP to Col. Crenna
Sure miss Richard Crenna - from his days on the _Our Miss Brooks_ radio show as the acne-laden pubescent Walter Denton to the husband in _The Real McCoys_, Col Trautman, Rambo's commanding officer, and the captain of the San Pablo in _The Sand Pebbles_, he was one one of the best of the journeymen actors who turned in a good performance every time!
I've the dvd, paperback & unabridged Audible version of this book. I did have Richard's version unfortunately the tape got mangled beyond repair. Nice to hear his version again.
@@greatbooksontape782 I watched film first and I got curious about the book knowing how they tend to differ when I came a cross Richard's abridged version, loved it, got the paperback finally got Audible apps and got the unabridged version. I've done the same Day of the Jackel and ice Station Zebra. I read the Zebra paperback so many time it finally fell to pieces luckily I have it in hardback but I'm visually impaired now so I use Audible and kindle!, I can adjust the font with kindle which is great.
This was the first technical, tactical, political, and espionage novel converted to film that I saw as a kid! My brother and I listened to the audiobook, and also the Bear and the Dragon, while homeschooling! Hearing it again after 22 years, is like a trip down memory lane.
My first time listening to this story, I have watched the movie many times through my childhood and never realised how much passed over my head until now.. A truly amazing story, thank you so much for this iteration Sir. Definitely my favourite audiobook telling this year.
Charles....the narration follows the movie...not the novel...i strongly suggest that you Read the book....just Do IT...the only thing that the movie could procure you while you Read is the faces of every actifs Who dis it.....i dare you not thinking of Sean Connery as ramius....but Read the novel....Treat yourself with the book
Read the book several times back in the 80's. Pretty good story. Well written. A few obvious errors, like "Jonesy" smoking cigarettes at his sonar station.Nobody smokes on a nuclear sub, not even back in the 80's.
That's weird. One my roommates back in the early 90s operated a towed sonar array on a sub, he said the exact opposite, that everyone on board smoked like chimneys but the air filtration sucked it up immediately.
The reading is good...but it follows the beat of the movie and not the novel. O know...i.read it throught and throught 3 times....there a so much details in the novel that the narration would take 3 times the lenght..but....,..i can see every scene woth every actors in every scene he desceibes
Excellent narration by Richard Crenna of Clancy's best book.
I appreciate the medium length stories with an actual person narrating. Keep up the good work.

Tom Clancy was the best. Really miss that guy....
These early books are amazing. He needed an editor badly at the end
Totally agree. And he should have stuck to techno thrillers and not tried to write personal emotions of his characters.@@michaelcortright5525

Colonel Troutman from Rambo 👍👍👍
What a pleasure it is to hear a well read book; so lacking in many recordings.
Sorry..but the narration follies the movie...not the novel
@constantinalexandrakis9719 Are narration follies anything like the Zigfield Follies? 🤷

One of my favorite books of all time, and the reading was Excellent!

Your a super-fan of Red October. I just got the DVD from the library to watch the movie again.

I've got it on betamax
Oh my goodness, a human reading and not AI screwing up everything.
Richard Crenna....that is all....🙌
thank you for posting
You're welcome
Richard Crenna?! Amazing!
Fantastic book. The film is one of my favorites but id rather listen to this reading by Crenna
The movie is merely the tip of the iceberg comparés to the novel
Absolute Gold! Thank you for this special treat. 🙌🏻
Listening for a second time! Thanks!!
Love listening to these. 👍
Glad you like them!
Loved it!!!
I always prefer the unabridged books to the abridged, but this guy did a nice job. I don't think I've ever heard him before.

I found this far more enjoyable than the film.
👍😎
Good story thanks
Richard does a good read. Another example of how much of a book can be excised, without missing much :-)

outstanding!
Fantastic !!!!
Well done.
It is an incredible book
Do you agréé that the book is way more intense than the movie??
Thank you
You're welcome
Is this the whole book in just over 2.5 hours??
Great movie, even better book. Jack Ryan beats his kid in the book 🤦♂️. SUPER-DAD!!!😂

You are wrong.
We all smoked in the 90's
read and reread red storm riseing from 86 to 89 during radio watches as a signalman in the berlin brigade
I'm a captain of a British submarine, we all smoke weed even today
Being a bit hard on reading font 5 and 6 ... well font 11 too ... really appreciate audio books
Is this really the whole book? Two hours and some change seems like not enough time to me
It says it's abridged, but yeah I thought the same thing. Original novel? More like 12-15 hours is my estimation. Maybe even longer...
Craving Poutine right now.
Rec’d impression no survivors of copter crash, then when on phone w/ prez, one survivor.
Crazy how Red Storm is 32 hours as an audiobook and this one isn't even 3.
It's abridged.

This is being read through a paper bag?
They drew first blood, not me.

Ahhhh. An audio book read by an actual human being. None of this AI synthetic speech crap.
And yet you ahould Treat yourself by reading the novel....its freakin aaaawwweeesommmmeeee compared to the movie
@@constantinalexandrakis9719 I have read the actual book. A long time ago. I do enjoy audio books as well. But not like this.
