Fully support the cheese on the mash option. This home made version makes a fabulous Sunday lunch IMHO. Always have a cottage pie on New Year’s Day. Prepared on New Years Eve, already for the family when they finally get up, and I have had a winter morning walk to see in the new year. It’s fab with lovely fresh greens veg.
Hi Butlers. Love your show. I bought an air fryer and have been following your recipes. Your channels is making such a difference to our lives. I have fallen in love with cooking and feel much healthier plus we’re saving money plus we’re not eating all that processed muck. I actually feel healthier also. Keep it up. Tell Sharon we love her. God bless yous and your family. Take care Bud. ❤🙏🙌
Hiya guys, I make my own cottage pies all the time, and ye cannot wack them! So tasty and with texture! Not just a paste type meal! 👍👍yours looked great!
Really good video as everybody has their own way of making cottage pie and shepherd's pie. For the former,I add some allspice to the meat mixture to bring out the flavour. Serve with broccoli and cauliflower cheese.
Great video - you hit the nail on the head. 12% meat and the rest was flavourings. Please keep making the point that what these so-called super markets are selling crap with very tasty flavours to mask the complete lack of wholesome value. Eat a Tesco pie and you will be hungry an hour later. Eat some Sharon and She will keep you sustained for days!
Love you two, you are so down to earth. You compare simple foods easily cooked . Many products don't look like the package illustration. One of the most misleading is Macdonald's. I want to say 'Can I have one like the picture?' Oh that I was brave enough. Good luck both. Nanny Gail in Stoke.🤩
When I was a child you could only find beef mince, so I always use beef mince and still call it shepherds pie as my mum and her mum used too. I make 2 at a time and freeze.
This is so refreshing, everyone else would have definitely said the Tesco one was bland, tasteless etc IF they were doing a comparison test. But Martin is honest and says its not bad, which is true as I have had one, so well done once again to the honest Butlers reviews ✌️
The one thing I do when I make this dish is to cook cauliflower along with the potato then mash them together, also agree with a topping of cheddar cheese. One other thing to save even more money is to cook the potato in a pressure cooker, which cuts the cooking time by about half
Hi folks ,another great video ,I find the Ash in shop bought ready meals is like instant ma's very watery and tasteless ,Sharon youe done it again .Martin is so lucky .
Wourcester Sauce is an absolute must. Mayo in the mash. Grated cheddar on top. I also put celery in mine. I was wondering if you could cook the pie in the air fryer once it's been made? You've made me hungry again. Gonna make one tomorrow. Forgot to say sometimes I make a spicey one with lots of fresh chopped chillies in it.
Well I know which one I would have, definitely Sharon's homemade one looked absolutely delicious 👌 As always excellent vid both And yes throw some cheese on top lovely jubbly
That looks scrumptious! 👌 So many have it with chips and baked beans. Love it with just baked beans and a couple of slices of bread and butter to mop up!
In our view no contest the homemade one is always going to be the best you are great cooks. Im glad Martin read out the ingredients on the Tesco one as I am allergic to tomatoe puree cheers guys great video .Kevbo&Jackie
Tina makes her own don't buy supermarket one it taste rank lol. Also think they use smash it certainly tasted like it lol I have tried them Before. Cottage pie got have a bit of cheese over the top yummy. 👍
Bought back yummy memories of whn I was younger and live in the LAND DOWN UNDER....AUSSIE....now living in GREECE.............but sheperds pie was a fave of me and my family...double mash to realy FEEL it.............You guys are just fabulous....have you ever made Mince patties...please do...with the gravy sliding down...OH SORRY, I just made everyone DROOL....Keep them coming guys and thanks !!!!!
You could have made two the same size as the shop bought one with your ingredients and they’d have still been deeper with much more meat, veg and flavour (and if your on your own, pop one in the freezer) making each one cost £1.35 😋❤️
You bought 25% fat in the mince. there would have been less liquid with 5% fat . I buy both depending on what I’m making . Love your cooking , Made your pasties yesterday , loved them .
I think you need stack boards on that fork lol. We don’t get those ready meals, I suppose they could be useful under certain circumstances but we never use them.
brilliant as always. im home cooking alot for my gluten free son. ive already made the shepherds pies in little foil trays and frozen them. how long would they take in an air fryer to cook from frozen and is the foil trays ok in the air fryer thanks
I’ve already done that we did a home-made shepherds pie and we bought two from two different shops shepherds pies home-made one is the best even my lot even said it home-made shepherds pie is the best is better than what you get in a shop
Looking at the home made one, a bit more mash would have seen an easy 3, maybe even 4 individual pies for a little over the price of one. Homemade shepherds/cottage pie is right up their with great wintery comfort foods. Just a thought on all of the extra ingredients in the shop bought, a lot of these would have been the equivalent of the Oxo cube and gravy granules a Maggi sauce.
Hello you are right about home cooked food being better than shop bought when i are a cottage pie i and a table spoon of tomato sauce in the mince mixture it makes a big differance then i put cheese and tomato on the top we love all your videos from sue and vic
Was a given which one was going to taste best ofcoarse it 110% Sharon's for double the money you can feed two with proper ingredients, thanks Martin and Sharon ( Britain's favourite don't lady ) think Martin should start doing the dishes lol

Well done guys if we do it or even sadly buy a ready made wed put a few chips and peas n broccoli on the side .fick gravy on the chips , makes it go further ...keep up the good work
Martin, to make it fair why don't you also read the ingredients/ chemicals of the oxo cubes and liquid Maggie ? The recipe does look amazing, I will need to try to make it vegetarian for me tho 😁
Its just the princible of home cooking against mass produced that we were demonstrating, As you know, anything that comes from a factory will have some sort of preservative in but in general its just good practice to keep them to a minimum.
If you ever do another shepherds pie mix a bit of Philadelphia cheese in with the potato I’m telling you now it’s absolutely gorgeous mixed in with potato and then on top of the mince meat and then cooked shepherds pie it’s really nice try that next time
Always best to put some seasoning give it a little good taste all the other little ingredients to give it that cookie taste like I said home-made shepherds pie is the best. Another one do home-made macaroni cheese and then buy one from the shop and you’ll see the difference and the taste is completely different homemade macaroni cheese is better than the one in the shop try that
Why did you not use your air fryer in this one? Ps. Where do u get your Maggi sauce. PS. Don’t forget the worchestershire sauce next time. Pps. Loved your video on where you grew up. Will have to get Sharon to do one. 🙏
Hi guys where did you get the Maggie's seasoning from been looking for it every where to try this recipe a know a could use some substitute but a really want to try this recipe great video

Marcus, you'd be pretty hard pushed to remove all of those things in modern food bud. Its an oxo cube for beef flavouring. Anything that comes Packaged from a food supplier will have these sort of things in. The idea is to limit the exposure to the quantities and don't rely on packaged foods. Cook your own. that's the message.

An egg yolk and some cheese mixed in with the mashed potato works a treat. No need to put cheese on top of the mash.

I put Maggi Sauce on chips instead of vinegar, I much prefer it. Maggi goes in soups, stews, you name it, even in pepper sauce for steak. 👍

Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein (Water, Wheat Protein, Salt), Water, Flavourings (with Wheat), Flavour Enhancers (Monosodium Glutamate, Disodium Inosinate), Salt, Sugar
You only use a splash.

The mashed potatoes are more than likely instant. Yours is real potatoes and all fresh ingredients. Plus, the size you made would make 2 of the other
I add garlic to the vegetables when I cook cottage pie
Natural home made food Yum ✅️ To many chemicals in the frozen ready made❌️

You can buy them on Ebay in bulk.

12% meat in the 400 grams Tesco meal. So, 48 grams of meat. That's poor.
