- Cinematic Hiking Vlog of my first solo hike near Lake Windermere as part of my Weight Loss Journey. I am a true beginner and will make a lot of mistakes, I'm sure!
This vlog was filmed on 16th July 2022, following a few weeks after starting the next phase of my weight loss journey, which is a focus on fitness. I wanted to do a hike and with the weather being absolutely perfect, I did some research to find a suitable trail and headed up to the Lake District for this adventure.
This extended episode of The Diet Diaries covers the majority of the trail and my feelings and experiences as they happened.
This is the first in a series out hiking videos, the second hike to The Peak District will be released in early September, so please consider subscribing so you don't miss it. Thank You!
The first part was shot on a Sony ZV-E10 camera with a Sigma 16mm lens using the DJI Ronin RS3 gimbal - though as the trail increased in difficulty I switched to the GoPro Hero 10 as my primary camera. All audio was captured on the RODE Wireless II and I used the backup files in the final edit due to high sensitivity issues on the camera audio input. (This feature saved the video!)

Speaking as someone who has been regularly hiking in the Lake District since 1970, and had done this route countless times, I have to say that your video of the experience is excellent. I was screaming at the computer as you went around, telling you which way to go, and what to do when you got to the obstacles, - I really wanted you to succeed, and succeed you did. You worked it out and got round safely. Actually, if you had carried on descending when you took the wrong turn you would have reached the road beside the lake, and finished with a mile of flat walking, but I applauded your sense of adventure and determination to turn back and do the walk as planned. Well done.
Hey, thanks for such a lovely comment. I'm so glad that I was able to finish it as planned and there was some unexpected route changes, but I absolutely loved it! I'm actually writing this from a small cottage in Buxton where I'm staying for the weekend as I'm off filming another hike tomorrow! It's definitely going to become a core part of my ongoing weight loss journey and a new hobby of mine!
Great job Ant and a great edit too. Some lovely shots in there. The music compliments it perfectly too.
Well done.
Thanks mate. Pretty much every day I walked to the gym I was listening to different tracks I could use! It was such a risk to make a video of this length and I'm over the moon it's gone down well. I am shooting the next hike tomorrow - which, from the photos should be pretty tough, but also really rewarding.
Wow, simply masterfully filmed and edited video.🎥🥾🥾
Thank you so much!!
Well done Ant, the scenery was spectacular!
Well done Anthony, such a beautiful place when the weather is lovely, such a shame storm Arwen devastated parts of the Lake District and Northumberland, you inspired me to get my boots out while the weather is nice and do some hiking too x
That's awesome Gwenn! I'm so glad it's inspired you to get your boots out! The storm really was terrible and seeing it up close for me, rather emotional at the time.
Great video Anthony! Thanks for sharing! 👍
Great job on the hike and the video! The scenery was amazing!
Thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. The views were spectacular!
Loved it. Great music choices, absolutely stunning views and wicked that you included some facts about the area. And... you Britons have some damn cute cows!
Hey! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! The cows were cute, but I think I spooked them. When that cow darted I jumped out of my skin lol
Really enjoyed that Anthony. I did some sections of the West Highland Way a few years ago and some of those difficult ‘paths’ reminded me of that agony. As an overweight 70 year old I’d be far too scared do that alone. Loved that you had to backtrack in order to use the static camera in many places. Well done.
Yeah, the trail took twice as long because of setting up the camera. It was quite funny watching the footage back of we walking away from the camera, only to run back haha
Many many more of these Ant. I really got absorbed into this
Thanks mate! I've got another one coming out next weekend! And I'm filming a sunrise hike in Spain early next week too. I've got some wild camping weekends planned as well for early next year. Great for both the body and mind 😃
@@AntandGlen absolutely love it. That's right up my street. All of it
great project and concept - good luck!
Thanks so much Paul! I’ve discovered this new drive to get outdoors more and it’s been such a positive change. Just finished filming my second hiking video yesterday and already planning the next!
@@AntandGlen there is a lot of literature out there on the fantastic effect of walking on mental health too - but diet theme is great at our age
