Tauren Endurance racial is a joke for pvp especially considering execute or hammer of wrath type abilities.

@@madseasonshow Nice videos, the only things that come to my mind that you left out are these two: The Troll's Beast Slaying is actually useful in pvp againt shapeshifted druids, because they are beasts, and the second is that Devouring Plague is overrated because priest and paladins can cleanse it easily which is a huge mana waste for the undead priest. Anyway nice touch on the Taruen melee range stuff, it is something that people usually forget to mention. I liked that you talked about the Gnome and Tauren sizes as well, I never really thought about that it can be an advantage or disadvantage so it was helpful.

Clearly, Tauren is the best race for Rogues. They're so good at stealth that they're invisible from the character creation screen!

Fun fact: tauren rogues do literally exist! In Stonetalon post-Cata you can find Grimtotem NPCs using rogue abilities and even rogue energy! And in the events of the Sundering novel, many Grimtotem defected to the Horde. Additionally, Outlaw is a pirate themed spec more or less, and many pirate NPCs are tauren.
Why do you apologize for making lengthy video's? I find them very enjoyable! I listen to these while working throughout the day so it keeps me entertained and informed.

My vanilla allegiance leader was an enhancement shaman tank... I was forced into healing and could only dream about switching to elemental until after burning crusade, I was finally able to achieve my dream but felt stronger for having the healing experience ^_^

Not many people knew it was a thing and even some that did don't seem to acknowledge it.
Sure they wont be main tanking raids, but let's be honest, neither will druids or paladins.
The small 10/15 they can in the right hands and comps. But yea in most cases off tanks. Pallies were good for scholo and baron strath runs
I was an enhance shaman off tank in raids. Was not the best but i was an orc and after some pvp gear i would main tank 5 mans.

Ok about the Tauren "tank" I know almost 99 % of the people laugh at that. Back in vanilla I had Tauren Shammy and I had similar build, I did sort of experiment, most people laughed at me when they saw my talents until they dueled me. In almost every case I defeated them especially against warriors and rogues. First they said I was lucky, then 2nd duel - same result, 3rd duel - same result. People were just "WTF how this noob can even survive that long". That war stomp saved my skin against rogues so many times I lost count. With that extra 5 % health in vanilla it was a huge deal and that shield with the Stoneskin Totem gave a lot of armor against melee attacks. For me personally the rogues were the greatest challenge to beat, but with this kind of hybrid build increased my success rate with probably 50 % than otherwise. It really depended what class you are against. It was almost impossible (unless you are max geared) to be better against every class. Every class had different tactics to use if you are fighting against it, so I usually changed items and used different spells against different classes (which most people didn't bother to do). It was so bizarre when I posted somewhere in forums that I started making screenshots every time when I was dueling or doing PvP to show people because nobody believed otherwise, then they were like "OMG how is this possible" and in many cases I fought against higher level players (I was 55 and even fought 59-60 lvl and won). I think I still have the screenshots I have to check my old stuff, it will be nice throwback to see them again. I have to check also the talents I used, maybe I will try it again when Classic is released.
My point is just because something looks weird, even funny by the mainstream opinion, doesn't mean it's bad. If you haven't tried it, how do you know it's bad choice? Back then also many builds required some practice, so at first it will seem off and hard, but when you get used to it is the opposite.
I think there was very good case with a warrior ( I don't remember if it was the beta or after patch 1.0) because the warriors were considered as the worst PvP class, but this guy kept going and proved that it was actually OP and then Blizz patched it out later. So yeah, sometimes even the weirdest thing can be a thing if you know what you are doing and mastered it. That was the beautiful thing about Vanilla, the whole point was to master the way you like to play the game and stick with it. If you use a common build but have no idea or interest to know how to use your abilities, no matter how good the build is, you will still be mediocre in the best case. Can't wait for the Classic.

The Hamlet track from Darkest Dungeon, insanely good choice
I really liked the vibe of having the Darkest Dungeon music for the undead priest part... so fitting, the music is just creepy.
Touch of Weakness for UD priests can also proc blackout since it does a small amount of shadow damage when an attacker hits you. Also something you could add as an UD shadow priest to make your devouring plague much more efficient is only using it with inner focus. It of course won't get the added 25% chance to crit, but it will make a very mana consuming spell free! Plus they are both 3min CDs so you can have a free Devouring Plague all the time!! Power to the Forsaken!! Great vid man!

I made a troll priest in Vanilla when my guild was short on healers (she's still my main to this day). In doing so, I fell in love with healing, and with trolls. My reason, however, for choosing troll over undead...I didn't want to be an ugly undead, I thought trolls were much more attractive (yes, you have full permission to laugh at that reasoning and call me a typical female). I will say tho, I have very much enjoyed playing a troll priest for the past 14 years, I can't imagine myself maining another toon.

Remember that Undead Priests racial priest spell Touch of Weakness also does damage!
This means if you have the blackout talent you have a 10% chance to stun melee attackers when they go on you

Back in vanilla I was just a kid that could barely speak any english, but I did play quite a lot of WoW (like a chicken without a head I reckon, lol. At least for the first period of time). I started out making an orc shaman that I leveled to 60. However over time I got very jealous of taurens. The extra HP, the cool feeling of playing a big buff character (lol yeah it's primitive, but that's how I felt) and of cause... the war stomp! It got so bad that I made a new shaman, this time a tauren. Taking the leveling time back in vanilla into consideration people thought I was crazy. Though it was my main in the many years to come with WoW and I never regretted that decision. War stomp is so good for PvP. I also raided, but only to get better gear for PvP, lol. It was my great passion. I loved the big WF procs, so when the option to dual wield was added later into vanilla for shamans it was with mixed feelings for me. It was better to DW in regards to dps, but it just didn't have the same "lol, did you see that? That kid just got deleted!"-effect on me.
Okay, back to choice of race. Shamans ate spell casters for lunch back in vanilla (and still does?). Especially in regards to offensive spells with casting time, like a shadow bolt. Normally I would rotate earth shock (spell interrupt) --> grounding totem (spell absorb) --> earth shock (since ES had like a 6s CD). However as tauren you could expand that rotation to ES --> GT --> ES --> War stomp --> ES. Of cause PvP is very dynamic and this example is over simplified, but man I gave those spell casters a hard time (at least in my own memories ;D ). Doing this rotation while spamming purge (removing all their magic buffs, such as shields and hots) basically killed the spell casters before they could do much. If you wanted to go full a**hole you got the tidal charm trinket (instant 3s stun) and went engineering for thorium grenades (skill shot based item that "repentance" the target for 3s aka another interrupt) and added those to your cycle. It was pretty GG for casters at that stage.
The point is that war stomp fits the shaman kit very well for PvP. It's also very nice if you need to buy extra time for team members or get a "free" spell off yourself. I remember being quite disappointed with orc''s stun resist... but maybe it was way better than I felt back then. However I'm quite convinced I would go tauren again if I pick shaman for classic.
It's worth noting that Tauren size increase reduces the Hunter deadzone, to the point it's difficult to abuse in PvP
Isnt the dead zone 6-7 feet (5 is normal meelee 8 is gun range)?
If so id be suprised if there even is a dead zone with them

Am I the only one who thinks that Shamans should have had race specific spells too? Shaman is based off of the Warcraft 3 Orc shaman units more than the Troll Witch Doctor and Shadow Hunter and the Tauren Spirit Walker.
That would have been cool. Farseer, Spirit Walker, and Shadow Hunter for orcs, tauren, and trolls.
would have been cool that , probably give bloodlust (group based) for orcs, Voodoo ritual (witch doctor ultimate from wc3) for trolls and spirit link (spirit walker tauren unit skill from wc3)

Just imagine:
Trolls having Hex
Orcs having bloodlust
Spirit Walkers having Spirit link
+ every race should have it's own totems. So Troll gets the serpent ward and stasis trap which acts as a trap totem similar to a hunters frost trap from
Orc and Tauren get their own totems too.
Then i guess they had to do the same for paladins

Yessssss the Shammy tank. I'm so excited to try this out. Enhance shammy seems so gutted in retail but back in LK, Enhance Shammy was my absolute favorite thing to play.
You can definitely do a lot of 5 mans with a decent healer. You won't ever be doing raids, unless you're in a very casual guild, or you're doing old content that your guild has progressed past. But hey, the game really was about playing it the way you wanted to back then. Classes were really diverse and had a lot of unapparent potential. Now they're all watered down and everyone has an ability for everything.

I could be wrong, but i don't feel like rewatching both videos to correct myself if such is the case.
The troll racial, for those of you that might be looking to include that into your caster of various forms.
Keep in mind that the increased casting speed does NOT change the mana-cost of any spell/ability.
Sooo, with that said rely to much on the haste and you might just find yourself moving towards "oom" faster then other healers.
Alot of people will obviously think about this already, but i'm pretty sure not everyone does.
Thus i feel this comment is justifyed.

I'd actually love seeing a class picking guide. I've played them all many times over, but not in vanilla and I'm sure things are quite different. :)
another thing some people dont mention, is that because all races move at the same speed, and because tauren are so much bigger, their stride animation is slower and so it seems like they move slower. My first character was a tauren, after making a gnome for fun i felt like i was zooming across the map. Going back to tauren after that felt like i was moving at a snails pace.

So there I was perfectly content to play as alliance, and just do the things on that side. Then I saw you put up shamen. Now I tank, it's what I do, it's what I've done since Wrath, no before that when they told me in Gruul's Lair that a mage was needed to tank, and again in Black temple. Tanking is life. The shaman though, has been my mistress since tbc, merrily we went about chain lightninging and frost shocking our enemies, the times we had, running free in our ghost wolf form. Goddammit, I gotta roll Horde, don't I.
And you'll be able to tank as Shaman too :p
@@TheFlibidy I could, but I'll probably go UD warrior for tanking (Trolls are just the worst ascetics to me), and then have an orc shamen for farming purposes, make myself a nightfall or something.
Just remember, unless I'm mistaken, ghost wolf was not an instant cast back at the beginning of vanilla (unless you had NS ready ofc). I'm not entirely sure when they added it to the game via talents, but I'm pretty confident it wasn't an option for the first part of vanilla. Also it did not have that minimum 100% run speed buff back then either. Don't get me wrong I was a huge shaman main myself between vanilla til the end of wotlk... but cast time on GW... man that's a bummer lol.

There's a simple rule in vanilla, if your class can be Orc, roll Orc (for PvP focus). Stun is the most OP effect in classic PvP, and being randomly 25% resistant to it means you have a 25% chance to wreck a lot of classes that rely on their important stun moves.
For example, a Rogue vs Warrior, can be 50-50, but against an Orc Warrior, it's like 25-75. Or Rogue vs Hunter, Orc Hunter wins 90%. It's game breaking racial against classes that rely on stun.
I really didn't think about it much when I was on my orc warlock back in the day. But the number of times I must have not even noticed resisting a rogue's cheap shot, reflexively death coiling, fearing, and dotting them up until they were dead must have been some real bullshit.
Here's what I'm rolling with at the moment:
-Druid - Tauren (duh)
-Hunter - Orc (5% threat boost to your pet)
-Mage - Troll (regen might not be much, but it's the only thing that applies when I'm AoE kiting)
-Priest - Undead (can't heal if I'm feared)
-Rogue - Orc (mainly for the joke about an orc rogue who never trained stealth and just maxxed intimidation and would say "you can't see me")
-Shaman - Troll (at this point I had 2 of every other race and only 1 troll)
-Warrior - Tauren (5% HP and War Stomp)

The beauty of this is that racials are pretty much all there is. The ability to pick any race of a class and be completely effective is great in wow.

TBH, garrisons and the constant dumbing down of the classes did it for me. The only thing I would miss playing vanilla again is mogging 😃

I put cannibalize a bit higher in PVP since a lot of classes don't have self healing. Especially within Battlegrounds when fighting multiple enemies there isn't always healer available. Even if you do carry pots and have bandages they won''t be enough to top you off alone. Still a great list and good tips.

I think it's important to note that you can use Inner Focus to make Devouring Plague free. This can be huge in PvP!

When I was leveling my Undead Rogue I had a macro that would cannibalize before going into stealth. I found that if I didn’t macro the two together, I would forget all about cannibalize. But once I had macroed them together it was amazing how often it was getting used. It was like eating free food after each kill.
When I got into endgame content, however, I decided to scrap the macro, because for some reasons [sometimes] cannibalize would break you out of stealth. Which was kinda weird because it was only some of the time. But it was just enough to mess you up in PVP where you can’t afford to mess up your own stealth attempt.
I do the same with macroing Pick Pocket with Sap. And again, it’s amazing how much Gold you accumulatively make if you pickpocket every single time you sap an enemy. However, as I remember Sap put you in combat in a Vanilla, so that macro won’t be quite as good in Classic. However it will still make some extra gold because you’re still going to have to Sap, so why not make some gold every time you do. The difference is that you won’t be sapping EVERYTHING in Classic, unless you also want to fight everything. On the other hand, sometimes Sap puts you in combat in retail as well. Just not often.
Macroing Sap with Pickpocket will also be good in Classic considering how much harder it is to make gold while leveling in the first place. Every piece of copper counts, and that little bit you make pickpocketing can be that much you don’t need to spend on repairs and things like that.

For PVE Undead Warlock, cannibalism is also great for leveling. One thing you can do is life tap your mana to full and then eat corpses to get plenty of free resources.
When will you start WoW BC class and race picking?

I remember I chose Hunter for Draenei and I loved the starting zone of it. I really didn't think of Race specializations back then, but I really loved the look of Draenei.

As a rogue in vanilla the orc stun resist seemed more like 50% chance..
Honestly for ud cannibalize was nice in pve and pvp along with a bandage
female undead also have the best casting anymation, which is why I'm rolling that for classic, since I'm going horde and I'm going to play a mage as my first character, warrior as number 2
Undead priest it is for me, the small group i might be playing classic is atm lacking a tank and a priest and this video made me jump on priest really fast especially since they work so well on undead which were my favorite horde race in vanila wow.
Lol 17 minutes into this vid the Windwaker song starts playing and suddenly I have the urge to play Zelda : P Now I am playing 1 game while watching a youtube video on a second game with a third game on my mind. Its gameception!
You have to take into account that while the orc stun resist helps you against classes that are much more dangerous against a warlock, WotF works 100% of the time. Also, you don't have to "allign stars" to get that cannibalize off during fear; it's actually pretty common occurrence. I really can't say whether UD is better than ORC because that stun resist does really help against the second most lethal warlock killers in the game, but WotF allows you to DOMINATE against all other warlocks and priests. It's again one of those preference things.
One bit of criticism that really hinders the video for me. Next to that PVE/PVP label put which class you’re currently discussing. I’ve watched the whole video but when I wanted to revisit to find out what to pick for a mage I just kept jumping over the section and just generally unsure what was being discussed as I jumped around searching

I a lot of tanking with my Enhancement Shaman in vanilla however you are correct I didn't do it in raids mostly 5-man dungeons. I really miss my orc Enhancement Shaman!

You should do a comparison between the Night Elf Druids and the Tauren Druids. And Maybe, the Worgen and Troll Druids in the later expansions.

Overall a great video. However, I do have two small nitpicks with it.
First, I feel that you're overstating the value of tremor totem in your evaluations. In a 40 man raid you're not going to be able to have a shaman for all 8 groups, so there is going to be a group or two that don't have it. In addition to this, you've used the argument of not wanting to complicate your evaluation of races/classes by not factoring in things like consumables and having things like "pocket healers" but you often use the tremor totem as something to compare races/classes.
Second, and this may be a biased opinion, but I feel that you undervalued Will of the Forsaken for your PvE evaluations. If you're feared, you're doing zero dps. WotF is more dps uptime on bosses since you're a) able to pre-pop it and make yourself immune and b) are able to continue attacking when the rest of the raid is running around feared.
I do recall alliance having an easier time in MC because of Fear Ward, and having not played Horde, I didn't know about Tremor totem, the fact that it's group only makes sense as to why it isn't nearly as effective.
Well since he was alliance since vanilla, he missed out on the horde racial experience to a degree. I'm in the same boat as him, I've been alliance since vanilla and there were some things in this video about the horde I didn't know about until now. I think he mentioned something about his lack of knowledge/experience and he's going off what he knew and read. I used to think trolls regeneration racial sounded cool as hell back in the day but didn't know how much it sucked. Or how troll shadow priests have extra CC abilities due to their racial spec, never knew or thought about that.
But as an alliance player, I always thought undead were OP as fuck with their racials. Especially undead shadow priests. Orcs came in second with their stun resistance.
I thought Alliance was the faction with the highest amount of players back in vanilla which changed after BC with Belfs and people understanding the power of their racials better.
Many raid fears are out rangable. And you should have 6-8+ shamans a raid or you are doing it wrong.
Niche thing for Tauren hunters: IIRC war stomp is good against one of the demons for the rhok'delar quest in case your other CC messes up.

The damage boost is better to hold threat. Shaman druids and pallies were not main tanks outside of dungeons and if good enough the 10/15 raids and even then you were still looked down upon
