  • In this test we put 3 very different iron shafts head to head on GC Quad to take a look at how they perform...

    Interesting I've found similar things with my game. I'm 5'10 185, swing driver 118-120 mph and everything says I should be playing a heavier x stiff shaft but I find the best results with an 85-95 gram iron shaft. Maybe because that's what I grew up playing I don't know but I feel like strike is way more consistent with the lighter shaft.

    Another great example as to why you should get properly fitted for your clubs in order to get the best out of them 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

    Nice analysis. I like your results because there is a clear separation between the catalyst and the other two shafts. Your averages in all categories are separated by a number that is higher than the standard deviation. That's a clear difference. There is no separation (despite what the colored circles might illustrate) between the modus and DG. Each of those averages are smaller than the s.d. which means that any perceived difference is actually just a result human variation (and you're very consistent.) So, for club shoppers out there. With these #'s, the catalyst will give you a demonstrable performance difference compared to the other two. Between the DG and modus, pick whichever feels the best for you if you're buying new clubs but don't go and switch from one to the other based on these #'s. You'd be paying for the same results.

    😂You made me laugh when you hit the DGS shaft. What is your result if you bring the head weight counterbalanced to D1 or Do. I'm currently trying KBS Tour Stiff with D0. Can be controlled well...the hands don't flip like with D4

    I took a punt on some apex pros with Mmt 95s from clubs for cash , love them !
    Coming from mizunos with c taper 120 .
    Totally different feels same result 👍

    I’m somebody who played dynamic gold S300s but I’m finding lighter shafts like the Modus 105 and a swing weight around D0 or D1 just feels so much easier.

      Doesn't the s300s come in 105s too tho?

      Yeah you can get a Dynamic Gold 105 S300 which is 103 in taper but that does day 105 on the shaft. The old original one (with just the gold band on it) was 130g

      @epgolfstudios thanks mate 👍 have you done a review on the DG 105 stiffs before ? Curious to see how they go compared to a modus 105 stiff

    Interesting… playing regulars in my Irons currently and thinking of going to stiff but this has made me wonder what the difference would be… one way to find out I guess!

    • @epgolfstudios
      @epgolfstudios  2 года назад

      Indeed mate only one way to find out! But the reality is if you went from a regular into a similar weight stiff, the answer is not a lot of difference. Certainly not in the numbers.
      Possibly a little in a feel, but again whether that would make any changes would obviously need to be tested.
      But again I generally wouldn't see massive differences in iron shafts that are close-ish to each other.

    Would love to see this using all stiff flex shafts? But graphite light weight vs 105 modis vs 120 dynamic gold again all stiff flex.

      Great comparison again btw. Also I really like the feel of a lighter shaft but any time I ask a fitter they always say to fast for graphite bla bla blaaaa

    Just some history.....When I started building clubs in the mid 80's, C8 swing weight was considered a women's club. Seems the industry has moving in that direction for all the "amateur men, pros still swing D3/5/7 weighted clubs. I am 66 years old, 6', 210 lbs and still athletic. I still swing Dynamic Gold shafts, R300. I can not feel the C9/C8 swing weighted clubs in my swing. The DG are easy to create lag, the lighter stuff I tend to be more armsy with. You can keep the C8 weight clubs for your wife.

      Thanks for the comment. Realistically this wont be a video that we would do. But I can tell you the LZ would play a lot stiffer and feel loads stiffer and a lot more work. As you've already seen in terms of numbers there's never a massive difference between shafts

  • @sjc6717

    So if you took the Catalyst and did some more in depth testing, compared it to the shaft you currently play etc and it continued to be better - Would you consider putting it in the bag?

    • @epgolfstudios
      @epgolfstudios  2 года назад +1

      To be honest I wasn't even fitted into the iron shafts that I play 😅 and the tough bit with that is I actually play about once a year at the moment as I just work everyday.
      But genuinely this test made me think that maybe like an 80 or 90 gram stiff could well be the way forward for me. Something like a KBS TGI maybe. Think the 60g reg is just a little exteme.
      Definitely thinking of just re-shafting my irons with them.

      @sjc6717 2 года назад

      @@epgolfstudios it’s really interesting and something I’ve thought about a lot, I’d guess that if you walked in for a fit somewhere that you’d be offered different shafts between 115-130gms and probably S and X flex - would that be fair? So would you miss out on something that might be better or that you’re more comfortable with because it isn’t necessarily what the specs say you should be playing?

    • @epgolfstudios
      @epgolfstudios  2 года назад +1

      @@sjc6717 100% right mate yes. They would only be giving me X Stiff I would imagine at mid 90s swing speed.
      That's why I don't like putting people in boxes I love to just test a lot of different stuff and I go a lot off the feedback I get from the player when they are hitting
