    I did my first body like the mystery machine.
    Got hooked on the body,so did another,candy green at the back faded into gun metal.Looks great with the lunchbox decals on.Want to do a rusty old one now.At least scratches won't show.It doesn't matter what rc I run outside...all my kids and their friends want to see lunchy.It is an iconic rc isn't it.
    All best with yours
    Ian

      I like the sound of your Mystery Machine, Ian! Candy Green and Gunmetal also sounds like a cool colour combination. I was lazy and just went with the one colour, although I was tempted to go with a darker colour at the back. I just may get another body and try a different scheme. Oh yes, the kids love a Lunchie! Definitely an RC icon. Many thanks for the great comment. Have fun, best wishes from Mark... :))

    That's really spectacular Mark 👍👌 I really like the colour you chose. I have a Lunchbox too but in black. I was thinking of going with green after seeing yours and Steve from Shen RC. But I'm not 100 percent at this stage. It definitely looks a lot nicer in green but I haven't had much experience painting hard abs plastic. I used to build little 1/25 scale plastic model cars from like AMT and ertl and Revell and monogram. If it's the same type of plastic then it shouldn't be too different from them. But changing from black to a lighter colour may be challenging. Beautiful job mate 👌👍🥰

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks very much, Joe, glad to hear that you like it! Yep, Steve has gone a similar colour to me, it does stand out I think. If you used to paint the smaller scale models I think you would have no problem with a Lunchbox, and yes the plastics are similar. Give it a go, you can always rub it down and try again if you're not happy with it. Good luck! 😎👌👍

    Hi Mark
    Thanks for sharing.
    When painting real metallic cars your final coat should be a mist coat. When spraying metallic paint the flake or aluminium reacts differently due to the level wetness of the area covered.
    So paint until it’s covered it will look blotchy, then finish with a dry or mist coat. This ensures all the flake is even. Then of course clear coat, dry first coat otherwise it will affect the final colour mist, then lay it on wetter until you are happy with the finish.
    I have only ever painted a couple of the hard shell bodies, and, 1 can is never enough. Spend the extra 5er for the peace of mind.
    Love the choice of colour!
    Paul 👍🤓🇦🇺

      Hi Paul. I must thank you for taking the time to write your experiences and advice for spraying metallics and clear coat. It's extremely useful and much appreciated. I will try to remember that for next time, as I'm particularly fond of a nice metallic finish! And also a lesson learned with the number of cans required - at my age I'm certainly proof that it's never too late to learn new tricks! Thanks again and all the best, my friend! :))

    I knew I had seen that TS 20 on a lunchie somewhere before! 😬
    Sorry Mark.... I've gone with exactly the same colour for project tube box! 😂
    And there's me thinking I was doing something original and different.... Just typed in green lunchbox into the search and there it was, soz dude, it wasn't an intentional copy!
    Great video by the way buddy -
    It confirmed to me that :
    * 1 tin of TS20 is not enough!
    *That this green looks stunning once complete!
    *That it wasn't just me that struggled fitting those bloody lense caps on the front..... nearly half an hour getting those poxy things in, hardest part of the whole build! 😂
    Shame about the laquer reaction, but still looked awesome non the less!

    My Friend, you are far better than I, when it comes to RC Body finishing...
    But I've Painted several real Cars, and would like to offer a suggestion.
    IF the Clearcoat glazing really bothers you, you could wet sand it right down smooth with 800 then 1500 grit Sandpaper...
    And then hit it with a different Clear Lacquer.
    It's worked a treat for me! 😉
    Love the colour choice!! Lunchies need to be BOLD. Pete Wiley gave me a great idea for mine, which is 5 years old and never had a Body...
    The Lexan VW Bus Body!! Cheap, plentiful and durable!
    So be looking for the final chapter of the LONGEST RC build in History!! 😜😁
    Keep improving my Brother!! All the best.

I did think about flatting it down, but it's a lot of work, and guess what? I got a new Tamiya to focus on (hopefully your unboxing will come out on Sunday). Good call on that body - hope to see that sometime on your channel. You gotta go with a bold colour scheme on it too! Best to you and yours as ever, my mad Yank Brother!

      I can't BELIEVE those Buggies are sold out here!! 😞 I may have to end up ordering one from England! 😲
      It's OK. This is keeping me SO busy. I'm really concentrating on it. I'm even sanding mould lines off of ALL exposed plastic parts!! This is officially ALL OUT. I haven't slept in 45 hours! 😲 Cindi is panicking, and slipped me a sleeping pill 💊! I should be out cold soon....
      I made it to Step 11, and finished the Video. 2GB on a PHONE is incredibly slow going. At least by the time you wake up, my Steps 1-11 Video will be UP!!!
      And Right... Lunchies are made for fun Bashing!! They're manic Cars. When I get to mine, it WILL be BOLD!! 😲😁 Then I can show you how the Double Wishbone Front Suspension actually makes a significant difference. 😉

    Hi Mark, What a cool colour to go with. That metallic green looks very nice - this RC will really pop in the verdant woodlands of summer. A shame about the lacquer especially as it looked so perfect before applying it. To be honest it's not as bad as I'd anticipated. I thought there was gonna be one ugly patch marring and otherwise perfect finish. As it turned out at least everything seems uniformed across the whole shell. It feels like a bit of weathering has gone down and let's not forget this truck is 34 years old...🤣, so quite realistic. Nice touch too in adding the by now 'essential' DVD case to cover up the innards. I'm liking your driver figure too, very original concept in going for Claude Rains - he once played the role of the invisible man, so who's to say he's not in there. He's also driving my Scooby Doo lunchie at present. A brilliant build series and very original looking RC to boot. Congratulations on this one mate...👍🏻👍🏻.

Bloody brilliant - I hope he is enjoying driving your Lunchie with an invisible Scoobie sitting besides him! I did want to fit a driver but had nothing to hand, and not able to get out at the moment makes it hard to find a suitable pilot from a local shop...
      Thanks for the kind words about the colour and finish - I know that you know how it feels when thing don't go according to plan, but in the end it isn't all that bad, just blooming annoying when you know how it could have been! Haha, I'm running out of DVD cases now! Ideal plastic for this kind of thing though. Lovely to read you as always, I really look forward to your comments. I like that cabin you made, I might 'borrow' that tip from you. Yep, you need 2 tins of paint cos 1 is never enough. You should have used Tamiya Lacquer as the Halfords lacquer is what gave the chemical reaction but it still looks a wicked paint job. I had that same reaction with the coffin paint job in my Gold Austin Cambridge A60 Hearse but not to worry, it still turned out ok. 👍

    Hiya matey. Hey I like the green. Brave of you to spray paint on camera. I'm always worried about getting paint on the GoPro. Were you wearing it on your head? Anyway that thing that happened with the lacquer also happened to me. I hadn't put the stickers on so I let it dry and sanded it a bit and had another go which came out ok. I've got a tin of Tamiya metallic black to go on my next Lunchbox shell and I'm inclined to just leave it with no clear coat if it looks ok. That's what I ended up doing on my Lunchbox pickup because I was worried about the bobbly thing happening. Anyway, you only really notice the problem when the light reflects on it and once it's dusty you won't see it. Hope you are having fun with this and also getting better. Great vid mate. Take it easy. Cheers for now 😁

    You make a good point with the precut stickers. I've come to prefer the non cut stickers as I also like to cut away most of the clear bits. If you just cut roughly on the precuts, more often than not the clear between the cuts comes off as well and is just stuck to the actual decal, and it's a pain to get it off again.

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  3 года назад +1

      Exactly. Bob! Yes the precut stickers cause more problems than they solve, don't they! I much prefer Tamiya to leave us to do what we want with the decals - unless they could laser cut the decal AND the backing to exactly the right dimensions! All the best to you, my friend! :)

But even with that wrong type of coating it looks better than anything I could have painted. I remember using a thin coat of Tamiyas own on my Monster Beetle and it reacted too with the paint, and smeared my carefully painted window lines etc. Also roughed up a couple of my buggy hard bodies. Nothing else to do than to move on and have some fun with it. But since then I have avoided using a final coating. I wonder what brand of coating Ampro uses. He always coats his hard bodies, with the stickers on, sealing them, and it always looks great. Anyways, your Box looks great. Looking forward seeing it in the sun running (if you got any sun). Take care, Mark.

      Hello my good friend - thanks for the great comment and kind words. Yes, it looks OK on camera, and judging by your comment, you have experienced something similar. But you are right, we just move on and enjoy our creations! I'd love to know what lacquer Ampro uses, too! Yes, hoping for some good weather to get a run in with the new truck, at the moment it just rains and rains! Best to you as always, Mikael. :-)

    Ahh, I remember. Rewatching ! The paint job was good though. Too bad about the reaction with the metallic green and the last coat. Looks better than mine though. You did 800 grit without primer and the paint covered it … ? Maybe the wet sanding did a difference.

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  3 года назад

      Hello my friend! Cool that you came back and watched again! Yes, I think the wet sanding does leave a much smoother finish and the paint covered the tiny scratches very well. Oh, it sure was the clear coat that spoiled the look, I will never mix automotive paints with Tamiya paints again - as you said earlier, we live and learn (most of the time!). Take care, mate! :O)
