    Thanks so much for making great videos. I just started getting into backpacking last fall after recovering from chemo & radiation for stage 4 cancer. I'm loving it, and I've learned so much great info from watching your videos...more so than any of the others. Keep up the awesome vids!

    I hiked the Camino in 2015 if you don't like road walking you'd probably not like the hike. That being said it was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life because of the people you do it with.

    A thought on the Quilt topic. The Revelation would benefit from down socks in the early season so you can drop the Down Socks as the season(s) warm.

    If you’re ever wanting to do a cheap Aussie hiking trip check out the Bibbulmun track in Western Australia. 100% free to hike, no permits required and huts/campsites are also free. In total it’s 1000km/620miles. Track runs from Perth to Albany through various terrain and can be walked either direction. Anyway happy trails 😉

    Thanks for answering!
    If I may ask a follow up:
    From the videos you posted of the JMT I don't think you've had any problems with crossing rivers/creeks. However, if one faces a significantly rushing stream, how ok is it to go off trail to find a better crossing?
    Also, how do you ford? Barefoot and then drying your feet after; trusting the waterproofness of your shoes; waterproof socks only?
    Cheers! 🍻

    You said you wanted to do the Camino de Santiago. I am planning my 3rd walk. Different route each time. I like it because not sleeping out doors. Albergues (hostels) every 6 to 10 km. we averaged about 25 km per day for 33 days. Go in the fall or spring unless you want to walk with 1000's of people. Our last was winter very few people were walking.

    Everyone has the Thermarest Neoair Xlite sleeping pad but I don’t hear too much about inflating it. How taxing is it really after a day of hiking to inflate it or do you feel it’s that critical to get the self inflating accessory? I just purchased this but haven’t received it yet

    Do you think a Zpacks Duplex would actually work for two people? It seems like a lot of people use this for one person. Does Ms. Bigfoot ever go backpacking with you? My husband and I just got a permit for the JMT and I am looking into getting a new tent. We have a REI half dome 2 tent which is a comfortable and durable tent which we have used on shorter backpacking trips, but it is a bit heavy and I'm looking for lighter two person tent options. Thanks.

    How do you store your Quilts? I put mine in a tub and it smelled like farts, Enlightened told me to hang it due to the type of down they use. You ever have smelly down products?

    • @logicsoundinc
      @logicsoundinc 2 года назад

      FWIW, all down is smelly... some more than others. It really depends on each shipment. You should smell the down supplier's warehouses!

      It’s just amazing how alcohol is so embraced by our society. Wine connoisseurs are considered to be educated intellectuals.
      On the other hand, a cannabis connoisseur is largely considered to be stupid pothead.
      Both are drugs. One is safer and more healthy than the other. And when I say, safer and more healthy, that’s in regards to BOTH the individual and society.

    I checked on the half dome info and there are a few mistakes. They give out 300 half dome permits per day, 225 day hiker and 75 backpacker. Then they give out 50 for the "day of" but according to the Yosemite website, they have changed their policy so that it is not "only in person" and seems that it is also a lottery.
    "The daily lotteries have an application period two days prior to the hiking date with a notification late that night. (So, to hike on Saturday, you would apply on Thursday and receive an email notification of results late on Thursday night. Results will also be available online, or by phone the next morning.) The application period is from midnight to 1 pm Pacific time."
    So, now, in theory, you can apply in Reds Meadows and then hike to Tuolumne Meadows and find out if you got the permit or not. If you did, either you can try to fully day hike it, all 24 miles or camp after doing half dome. You could also start the trail on they day you get to Tuolumne. If you get the first 5 miles, that is most of the up other then half dome and you will have a reasonable 19 mile day down to the valley. Also, if you permit does not require you to say at little yosemite valley, I would suggest staying at ~0.5 miles before the half dome junction where there is a creek. There are normally about 30 to 50 people at LYV and that is just too many people in one area for backpacking.

    I don't know why bloggers and tubers always push EE. I ended up buying one from all the recommendation and returned it. Took it out for the first time in 38-40 deg lows....and froze my ass off. It was a 20 deg quilt. I have a Nemo siren 30 degree bag that had me sweating in the same temps. I won't buy another EE quilt. I'd probably grab a zpacks classic bag.

      Some people run hot, some run cold. I slept fine at 18* in my 20* quilt, also slept fine at 36* in my 40* quilt.

    • @yakitoriPB
      @yakitoriPB 6 лет назад +1

      joe shmoe eh... bullshit. I'm a hot sleeper. If you're loyal to a brand that's cool but don't assume I'm uninformed about this subject. The bag was underfilled in the top outter baffles nearest the v. It wasn't from migration either. It was a substandard quilt. Or at least a poor quality one slipped through QC.
      Besides,...your own comment basically destroys your own rebuttal. If it's subjective....then what's the point of saying the temps?
