  • Welcome to my personal review of Rose “Spirit of freedom”-(Ausbite) from david Austin roses introduced in 2002
    This is quite honestly an astonishingly beautiful rose not many now after doing this so long stop me in my tracks but this has all the romance fragrance and poise of an old rose rolled into a modern cultivar
    Creating a shrub around 4 1/2 to 5 feet tall and around 4 1/2 to 5 feet wide depending on your geographical location and the length of your summers you could also try growing this as a short climber on a pillar post obelisk or simply fan train it against a wall where you can Expect it to reach around 8 to 10 feet
    Producing enormous blooms measuring around 4 inches across they open from raspberry pink buds to the most exquisite light violet pink, and are set off against mid grey green foliage
    Flowering from mid June through to the end of September each flower packing and astonishing 200 petals per flower! making it incredibly heavy in the first few years I would advise giving this as a shrub a little bit of support in the form of either a peony hoop or some pea sticks to lean on
    this is the kind of rose that you are going to want to cut and bring into the house where it will last around 3 to 4 days in a vase, I would certainly recommend rescuing the blooms from any inclement whether we may experience as the huge petal count often means this rose suffers badly with balling if the flowers get wet just as they open
    Fragrance wise, it’s packed full of old rose fragrance mixed with a small amount of myrrh, finished with beautiful notes of fresh Clementine and grapefruit. It’s clean and sweet all at the same time.
    Hardy and zones 5-11, Close attention must be paid to your mulching and your watering regime as flowers produced at this size take a huge amount of energy from the plant
    Fragrance rating 6⭐️s

    I live in Florida and Spirit of Freedom does great here. Over 200+ petals and doesnt ball in our humidity. It gets over 15ft here. I have 5 of them. It grows well in difficult spots. One is against a south facing block wall.

    Just from reading reviews... Spirit of Freedom seems like it may do even better in the hotter, drier climates of the southern United States. It appears that Spirit of Freedom isn't a very popular rose, but 200+ petals... wow. I had to give it a shot just for that. Unfortunately, I may have to put it in a large pot.

    Best spray for Sawfly larve ? thank you

    • @the_gardenerben
      @the_gardenerben  3 месяца назад +1

      I’m afraid I don’t spray any products in my garden whatsoever. My garden is a delicate natural balance all things are welcome if sawfly calls you a huge issue. My suggestion is to remove the section of plants which the caterpillars have hatched onto and relocate it to something less important hedge row, ragwort and dock plants make good hosts

    Il colore sembra un rosa - lilla ultra chiaro , si nota la tonalità un po’ fredda non è proprio un rosa
