The devil’s son eats the poor woodman’s maize porridge therefore his father orders him to serve the woodman for three years. During this time the poor man is growing rich.
Made by the Kecskemét Film Studio.
Directed by: Marcell Jankovics, Zsuzsanna Kricskovics
Storyteller: Gyula Szabó

The makers used the decorative art of a certain countryside region at each episode. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes, which have unique imagery, sometimes spicy folk humor in the dialogues. Thanks to the natural presentation of the storytellers, and the music of the Kaláka band, the viewer can experience something unique and special.

This is my favorite story by far. Pinko is clearly just a child and is prone to mischief. He’s not doing it because he’s evil or has some sort of grudge.
I like that his father doesn’t let him do as he pleases just cause he’s a supernatural being.
I like that Pinko didn’t just help the woodcutter for the time being, but made it so he would continue to profit in the future.
Ultimately he’s an adorable creature and everyone should adopt one. Lol
Kam3man eh, it’s like because he’s Fae
@ @@SerenityM16 Yep, Fae creatures think differently than us humans and see the world from a different perspective.
@@Zorander. Their existence is ruled by a myriad of arcane rules and laws, which determined a lot of their odd behavior.
*well take twenty*
@Jade Fields Hungarians are NOT slavic
I think this is one of my favorite Hungarian tales. We have a cute protagonist, punishment for bad behaviour, fun tricks, and a happy-ish ending
I kinda wanted him to stay :(
Unless you’re everyone else XD
More like cute ending 😊
Yeah. Deforestation and robbing the country off of its granary supplies stocked in the past 10 years. Real happy ending 😂😂
@@Caprioly But that ratchet-ass King didn't even "want to pay [Pinko] for an honest day's work.", so that ratchet-ass King was probably ripping off his workers and had total control of food distribution supplies and obviously wasn't distributing properly if that poor man was poor. It's not like you could AFFORD to be lazy back then.I like to think the man gave food to his neighbors and strangers when they asked for it or at the very least charged a fair price/a reasonable exchange of ahard day's work for some food if they earned it.That's why people killed kings.
LIFE HACK: adopt Pinkó
GOD I WISH
Zsófia Szűcs yep
Right!
You made me laugh
Get your own pinko on kickstarter today
When he only asked for a sack of wheat, I should’ve known it wouldn’t be a regular sack. But I honestly didn’t see that coming 😂
THIS HUNGARIAN FOLKTALES NIGGAH U SHOULD KNOW BETTER BY NOW THAT THE STATUS QUO DON'T EXIST!
when the king said that they would never be able to carry the bag I was expecting them to use the 12 oxen to carry it
That sack is huge
I honestly thought he had a magic sack, that can store anything
Pinko is a great capitalist. Destroys natural resources, scams his clients and use deceptive terms in contracts.
Narrator: And they all lived happily ever after
The Barren and the king:
👁️👄👁️
WHY DOES THE GUITAR INTRO GET FASTER AND MORE FRANTIC EVERY SEASON
Because the tales get more frantic every season
AAAAAÄÅ
it's a flute
Trade Offer
I receive: 2 corn cakes.
You Receive: A lifetime supply of food, loses of emone, and my adorable face.
Pinko you monster, you just took all the food supplies from an entire kingdom. Now everyone will starve!
The farmer will probably sell the wheat back at an exorbant price.🤔 also Pinko did leave them the oats and barely.
Not if the wood cutter sells it back ;)
Not if the farmer is smart enough and will sell it and profit off it.
also if the king has grain from 10years they probably never ever consumed any
Clearing the *entire* Forest!!!! Pinko, are you insane!?!?! You destroyed an ecosystem!!! We are going to die from destroying ecosystems!?!?!? P.s. I know it's a folktale not to be taken seriously.
He took years worth of supply from that King, the king likely would have needed it in times of war. Pinko is a madman... demon thing?
Pinko is a demon actually ._.
MadM0nte Yes have you not seen the horn he have
@@MadM0nte Even without wars, taking all that grain probably caused a famine.
Well at least he left the oceans alone. 70% of the air we breath come from the oceans. Trees don’t provide nearly as much. I’m not saying that what you said is wrong. Just that it could be worse
Top ten most OP anime protagonist.
hahahha yeaaa
If you think Pinko is op you need to watch the movie Son of The White Mare.
*goes to an addiction anonymous meeting*
Person 1: im addicted to alcohol
Person 2: im addicted to drugs
Me: im addicted to Hungarian folks tales.
'raises hand' same here.
At least Hungarian folk tales haven't ruined anyone's life. As far as I know.
Well being third allways pays off well in fairy tale
The moral of the story is : are you poor? CHILD L A B O U R
You mean Magical Vhilld Labour
I like that Pinko father is a strict but fair creature. Pinko himself is super cute.
...but *awful in every waaaaaay*
Kara Amundson why?
They asked for a sack of wheat, they never said how big it would be ;)
this was a very satisfying story
cooldaze I cant believe I just found a homestuck pfp
Watching this folk tale I was thinking.. why haven't Disney or Dreamworks made a movie of this? It's such a cool story they could have done instead of all the things they're doing at the moment.
you are very right.. but it seems disney has their own agenda
Disney has done fairy tales based on popular fairy tales, ie Brothers Grimm (German) and Hans Christian Anderson (Danish). I'm not sure if Hungarian folklore has achieved mass American appeal.
They would ruin it
Like remaking their own original stories over and over and over and over again
I love this story and I love the adorable Pinko! He’s full of tricks, personality, and magic. He’s prone to mischief but has a good heart, yet doesn’t concern himself with being classified as good nor evil (though he makes sure to obey his papa!) He’s just Pinko, and loves life!
This is what would have realistically happened when the Clark family adopted Superman. There's no way any farmer could resist using a superpowered child for chores.
If anyone plays Pathfinder or D&D, this could be a fun warlock idea. Didn't sell my soul, didn't make any deals, not serving a supernatural authority figure, my "patron" is a fey child whose parents are making him serve me as discipline
Pinko: hey lemme give you a hand!!
*starts deforestation*
I like Pinko--he's awesome.
And very cute too!
Getting rich while the rest of the country suffers from Deforestation, starvation, and dust storms from so thoroughly plowed dirt. Sounds like a nice, happy life!
folktales aren't supposed to be taken seriously tho
Sounds like gross capitalism
@@melanieortiz712 lol don't say stupid shit.
Idiotic westerners trying not to ruin fun: impossible
Normal parents: No more phone/iPad/computer for a month.
This dude: You’re a slave now for 3 years lmao good luck
What a lovely little boy he turned into.
So... the moral is to let street urchins steal your food, because they might be magic?
*yes*
No the moral is you never know which way the wind will blow.
very honorable for the king to honor such an insane form of payment
and térible for his people one bad harvest and they starve to death because the king gave away all there emergency supplies
We saw how big the bag was.
The king just thought the bag would be too heavy to lift. Apparently the magic sorting breath didn't hint to magic, lead alone that the boy was gonna lift a ten ton bag out his property.
Chaotic neutral
He only asked for wheat there was barley and millet left
and so the kings and barons servants all starved, in there hunger they turned on the rich farmers and bloody war broke out in which everyone died. "ha ha" said pinkos father "what fun these humans are"
it explains the name hungary
I love the music in this one. I love it in all of them but this ones really sweet. I also really love Pinkos little horns, long eyelashes, and blonde hair.
I wonder if "pinko" is connected to the English "puck". There are definitely similarities and as Westwood and Simpson note in "lore of the land" "Puck...was widely used for a fairy who brought prosperity to farms". In fact looking up English Puck stories rn and the name Puck is associated with fairies that either feed the horses or steal corn at night in Selmeston, Sussex
Lesson - go to a forest and leave your corn cake unattended hoping Pinko would eat your lunch.
Oh he was so sweet!!!
I guess the king and his people will now die from starvation because plinko and the poor woodcutter took so much XD
They have to buy it from him
Clears an entire forest, ploughs an entire field, sorts a mountain of grain, each in one day.
Takes a week to sew a giant sack.
Hahaha
Pinko is so cute!♥
...if you like disasters on legs 😰
*_moral of the story if stop fricken stealing my food, or ill make you work for me for three years_*
do you have a lollipop pls
@@johnnytopside9215 yes but you must work for three long years for me to receive it.
It’s been so long, I almost forgot how much I loved listening to these. This story was always one of my favorites. So cute & wholesome 🥰
Hope that farmer shared with the whole kingdom lol otherwise not many people lived happily
"And the farmer sold the grain to the king and thus became very rich. The next spring, all servants went to replant the forest Pinko had cut and planted new grain, and the king asked them to get their pay from the former poor man, as he was now richer than the king himself. Next thing we know, this old b***d had become the owner of the new forest and the baron's fields."
If he's that powerful, imagine how powerful his dad is!
I think he likes sewing quite a lot, he cut the forest in one day but took him a week to sew the sack with help so he kind of took his time to enjoy it...😂😂😂😂
What else could I expect from a child of "Pollute-O"?
Oh my god. That was his name...
I’m going to rethink life.
this tale is filled with power moves
Haha, I remember when my dad had me serve some stranger I ate an energy bar from for _three years._
Did you chop down a forest?
Pinko is the most adorable God like psychopath I have seen
Pinko is the reason why our earth is running out of natural resources XD
This would make a great animated series, like hilda, with just Pinko and his antics and supernatural affinity for work and mischief as well as his living with the wood cutter every episode with a bit of character development and Pinko making normal human friends
They all lived happily ever after... except the starving kingdom, jobless baron, and all the animals of the forest
Chaotic good pinko
Forrest: *exists*
Pinko: Im about to end this man's whole carrier to start this other men's whole carrier
Pinko you monster child. How dare you put the calves in such pain. THE POOR CALVES.
Pinko's father looks like Odin ... and Pinko looks rather like a Scandinavian troll? What are Pinko and his father?
He's a devil and Pinko is his son. So they're demons actually!
They are Fae.
Poluto=Pluto, the lord of the underworld.
Hungarian religiois beliefs in the middle ages were a garbled mess of christianity, tribal traditions, turkish and greek mythology and whatever else the Avars had before the Hungarians arrived. So do not attempt to find any concrete origin for these folk characters.
To tell the truth, I don't exactly know neither Pinkó's nor his father's origin. We, Hungarians have many tales, myths and since we were nomads back than it's possible that other folklores impacted our's. And Pinkó is not appears any other tale so I don't know. As a kid I always imagined him like a little lidérc. (It's a Hungarian folklore creature. Michevious, but not evil and also belongs to the supernatural. So it's like a kind of fae.)
I need a pinko in my life
Are we just going to ignore finally seeing dark colored characters that are good and not evil in these?
What a sweet story, you guys honestly did such a great job with the narration and animation
This is my favourite Hungarian folk tale ❤️
he's like a lil' anime char.
He is basically Ryo from Devilman no Uta xDDDD
fumomo fumosarum kiki
The main character shall be hungaria-chan
he is! even His lil horns are kind of anime-esque lol
Pinkó destroyed a forest, tricked some Farmers and took all the grain from the king, thus making the kingdom starve, are you sure this story doesnt have a villain ?
😮
Work: *will take 100 men a year and a day to finish*
Pinko: observe
Moral: Sewing a sack is really hard even for supernatural OP beings
Pinko is such a cheeky little bastard.
I want to adopt him.
7:31 - 'What kind of man is this king who cannot pay me for an honest days' work?!' He complains as he shakes in 10 years' worth of grain into the sack! That always cracks me up! Pinko's a straight-up savage!
Over the garden wall vibes
Pinko is so cute, i watched it twice. 💕💕💕
I'm glad that these episodes of Magyar Népmesék are now available in English, but I really miss the narration by Tammy Grimes that was used when they appeared in WGBH's Long Ago and Far Away. The narration seems rushed in this video by comparison.
I was about to comment the same thing! It's a shame they never got an official release, along with Long Ago & Far Away.
I'm definitely biased because this is the only version I've heard, but I find Gyula Szabó's voice to be very soothing. I love the little voices he does, and I think his pacing carries the story really well. I'll have to check out the Long Ago and Far Away series. Seems like an interesting bit of history!
Interesting fact the original Hungaryan narrator was Gyula Szabó who voiced Colombo too in hungaryan!
I want to adopt Pinko. :0
This is my absolute favorite folktale
I love the fairy tales and the animation of them.
Greetings from Germany🙂
The old wood cutter wearing glasses is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen
Definitely one of the funniest I've seen so far, thank you so much for uploading this!
get tons of gold, wood, 10 years of wheat- still living in a little cottage
Pinko is adorable
2:12 - That's unsustainable!
This is my favorite channel. Pinko is too stinkin' cute.😊
Pinko reminds me of Loki and paluto’s design very much reminds me of Odin
1:29 is some of the best music ever.
would’ve been a happier ending if pinko visited the woodcutter 😤😤
This is what obscene wealth looks like.
Yeah they worked for it, but now there is no forrest, no grain, and means to produce the grain is no longer in the hands of the people.
I wish Pinko had eaten my corn cake...
I love this fairytale. This one shows that even the devil has standards
“They at last had grain, wood, gold, oxen, and a happy life” and they laughed at they watched all the people and animals as they starve and froze to death!
Pinko is the greatest troll of all time in those tales.
"Any they all lived happily ever after ...... except the king and his subjects who suffered great famine for the next several years"
Moral: Dun touch da cornbred
What I particularly like about this one is that the kid gets his kicks by screwing people over, and he turned his punishment into screwing other people over.
It's also a story about how "bad people" just need to figure out how to use their skills constructively.
I love how Pinko is a black supernatural child 👶🏾
"only 1 sack of wheat"
Brings a gazillion meter squared sack
See how this man turned 2 loafs of bread into a fortune with just 3 simple tricks
aww the woodcutter's wife seems like such a nice lady.
6:28 When your mom says you can have one spoonful of ice cream
This channel is great. I wish there was one of these for every country.... folktales are the best!
These are so lovely. It reminds me of when I would check out various fairy tale books from the library to read to my little brother. I wish I would have found these when we were Young. He would have loved them.
The boy can do the same work for a day that 100 men would do in 101 day but he sawed that bag for a week?
he's strong, but maybe not extremely dexterous/
This is my favorite tale now
Imagine what Pinko's father Poluto is capable of...
pinko is adorable aaaa i love this story
Yo I thought I accidentally set this on 1.5 speed at first
When a child with magic powers has a goal.
Raise your kid like pinko
Sakura neko
So steal from someone then have them work for them for three years?
But they're human so it's not possible to do what he did
Favorite Hungarian Folk tale
King: How much you want for payment?
Pinko: Only a sack of grain
**Whips out bag of holding**
So nice story 😎👍📖😍
