But the twist among the lore is that they are - not - in fact completely against the Void, since their Sisters use it themself. My headcanon through all of the evidence is that the Abbey is merely wanting to regulate who uses Void, and if they are the original cult who bound the Outsider there, they have obviously noticed that he is out of control and not the Avatar they wished for him to be.
if we think about it the void cult already existed they were the one who make the outsider the god , and by making him a god maybe they were able to spread what they believe making the void more powerful to corrupt people , and with the Outsider even tho he had become a god had little bit of humanity to advertise you that after you get the power that your action can make your end come faster (like with Daud , outsider tells him that he will die depending on your action)
I've always thought that the Overseers were the most fascinating part of the Isles' culture. A morally-incorruptible group of zealots who, instead of peddling a religion praying to a god, they actively work against one. It's just such a unique idea.
Though funny enough they end up being one of the most corrupt and straight up evil group of people, because everything is allowed against "guilty" people. Very realistic compared to real groups of certain beliefs

The curious thing is that the abbey no longer exists in the empire of the islands, after Billie removed the outsider from the void and everything became chaos, the abbey attempted a ritual that seems to imply that they tried to create another "god" but Emily stopped them. and dissolved
Like pretty much everything DOTO and onwards, it makes you question why they even made that DLC in the first when the Outsider is literally core to the setting.

The Abbey always reminded me of the real world Cult of Reason from the early days of the French Revolution, which was also an atheistic, anthropocentric religious order. Especially the similarities of the Fugue Feast and the Festival of Reason
I got some crazy new nuggets of information from this video that changed how I see the Abbey. Also, legitimately banger outro I was not expecting from a dishonored lore video.
@@Yegor_Epanchintsev judging by the sound quality i'd say it's not a pro job, and more like a voice message done on a phone so the favor from a friend thing is plausible
It is a bit funny that the Abbey are often right when it comes to magic being evil. Think of the Chaos that it can create with Witches and the chaos that you, the player, can cause with your powers. But what is great about Dishonored and it's world is how they are also wrong. How they persecute innocent people in the name of their faith. How they ignore the good that reaching into the void can do. Just like the Outsider, they are not evil. They are grey, as all in their world is.
Overseer, Outsider and Void lore are so interesting within Dishonored. I didn't know specifics that you spoke about in regards to their "music boxes". Something to look into :) On the topic, the Abbey is such an incredibly hypocritical faction!
It’s interesting how the main religion of this universe sees oblivion as what is to be expected when we die and that trying to avoid it is what’s sinful.
It would be pretty neat to see a "flesh and steel" run in dishonored 1 and 2 and music boxes don't have any effect on the player in exchange for rejecting the outsiders mark

@@ericlewisauthor mhm, new ideas You can maybe do vids about the other isles, Tyvia and Morley, and maybe character deep dives for people like corvo, jindosh, and sokolov who have a lot of interesting lore and ascpects to their characters.
