The song is many conversations, taking place from King David talking to God to being corrupted by his love for Bathsheba into killing his friend who was her husband. Then Samson being betrayed by Delilah because he put his love before his covenant with God as a Nazarite. And lastly Cohen saying there is no split between his faith and in his love, but that they are one and the same. To love and to be loved is not a victory march and God's love doesn't mean things will be easy, it may be hard and it may be lonely but to be alive and to understand the feeling of passion, love, understanding, and the spirit of God is to be content.
I love this song. Saw her Bathing on the roof" David and Bathsheba. "Broke your throne and cut your hair" Samson and Delilah. But its a kitchen chair so it's about domesticity, maybe marriage. The battle between Flesh and Spirt, Marriage and Independence, Love and Freedom. Maybe everyone has to make choices between self actualisation and the sacrifices we have to make for others. xx
