@germansaez It is just an amount of time now. When Nikon intragates all of the benifits of Red's advanced color science. Video technology etc, into their cameras. To make a near world class hybrid camera. Then maybe Nikon will replicate Phase one's advanced color science. Or Arri's color science that is found in their super 35 system. Would Arri's camera be the best hybrid camera on the market? Would most people need more then an Arri super 35mm hybrid camera?
Well i‘ve done it too last year. Got the ZV-E1 at amazon for a small price. Sold my a7sIII and saved some money. Never regreded it. Happy for almost a year now. There will be a firmware upgrade soon that allows to use the cool Sony Monitor app- sweet!
So interesting to see this video; just ordered an ZV-E1 on sale in lieu of a used or eBay “new” A7S3. Been sweating it since placing the order given overheating potential and non-traditional form. Decided I want the option to do “easy” capture when desired and when things start moving quickly in the real world instead of missing the shot getting all the settings and tripod set up. Sometimes you want to just enjoy the experience and get the shot.
I have both the A7siii and ZV-E1. I carry both for my backcountry videos. I love the ZV-E1 for wide with a 16-35 but for longer focal lengths (24-105) I use the A7siii. The stability enhancement offered by a third point of contact (viewfinder) cannot be replicated by the ZV-E1 at longer focal lengths when shooting handheld. I am hoping for an A7siv with ZV-E1 internals. THAT is the perfect camera. But of course it all comes down to one’s use case. Love your channel! ✅ 👊
I was hesitating between the zv e1 and A7CII last year, no 4k120 and do dynamic stabe on a7CII but I often need to crop a lot in my videos to have differents shots with the same rush. I never found an example of video with this kind of situation to see if croping a clip on 12MP vs 33MP make a huge difference so I picked up the A7CII. I missed the red light recording and the dynamic active stab. However I can stream easily with it with no overheating, more pixels to crop in, low light performance is as good a as the zv e1 even if more pixels, about the 4K120, no one will notice difference with HD120.
I myself was hesitating and went with the a7cii. This video is making me second guess if I should have the ZV-E1 instead. One of the main reasons is low light performance. I noticed on a comparison video from another RUclipsr how his a7iv was very dark in shadow and changing lighting conditions where as the ZV-E1 stayed bright and exposed on his face. I noticed the same on my a7cii. If I'm back lit, it'll take like 10-15 seconds standing still before the camera will adjust the metering to my face. The only way around it is setting metering to std, and making sure to keep it on my face which is annoying. I'm very run and gun I don't want to or can't always use a light(s) and want good reliable low light performance where I don't need to think or stop and start changing settings to fix it. The camera just needs to work. Although my old a6600 is not as good in low light, it just worked and I never really had to mess with settings often unlike the A7cii for whatever reason, and I just find it very annoying and confusing
@@mustang2005 full frame will awlways be brighter than apsc like the a6600. I'm not sure changing for the zv e1 and lose your hard earned money just for slightly better low light perf is a good deal, just my 2 cent. Maybe try some other settings ? I often record in very low light situation and never had a single issue with focus or face color.
@@mattpna I did a low light test between my a6600 and a7cii and to my surprise the a6600 was brighter but the A7cii was much cleaner in noise. But it wasn't bright on the face my face was pretty dark unlike the a6600. The ZV-E1 performs similarly I guess because of the lower mp
@@mustang2005 yes the lower mp are the best for low light. I would like to see a footage to crop in to compare with my A7CII at the same croping percentage.
Also, the a7iv (I did own that one) will overheat after about an hour at 4k 30 at 75 degrees f. The a7cii will do the same as the a7iv. I say all that just for context. The only camera I’ve ever owned that simply will not overheat no matter the frame rate or camera setting outside in the south Florida summer is the fx3. Of the 3 full frame cameras I currently own and regularly use (fx3, a7cii, zve1) if I could only own one camera it would definitely be the zve1. I just hope I don’t have to make that choice! 😎

I’m not buying another Sony camera (I already have several for professional video purposes) until they include at least 6k as a standard vs 4k for the ability to crop in post. The little bells and whistles that they are implementing in the new lower tier cameras are nice, but I’m looking for meat and potatoes upgrades. Otherwise. my A7iii, A7siii, 5 FX3’s and 2 FX6’s are doing great! Thanks for the content. I really enjoy it!
I just looked up ZV-E1 vs A7S III. The key differences is single vs dual SD card slot on A7SIII. As well, there are reports that the ZV-E1 overheats on long recording sessions while the A7SIII doesn't. Lastly, the A7SIII apparently has a better build quality and more configurable buttons. Not sure if all that matters for your use-cases though. On forums, some mention single SD slot on the ZV-E1 is a dealbreaker compared to the A7SIII, but otherwise the content produced is very similar.
One of the big pros of the ZV-E1 (and FX3) is the ability to load user luts so if you shoot slog you can get a accurate preview of the intended look while filming - the A7Siii so far hasn't been given this feature.
By far the most consistent Sony A7SIII advertisement RUclips channel since many years highlighting the advantages of 240fps and now moving to a camera without EVF, no weather-sealed, no front dial, and 1 storage slot. From filming hawks and squirrels to a fish tank in the living room. If lucky, you’ll be able to record a fly attracted by your “Dorito-covered hand” in the comfort of your sofa and without the need of the front dial…
I have the ZVE1 now since about half a year and I really love it 😍 although I have a bigger FX6 😂 the small size is perfect for traveling and the quality is awesome 💪🏼 best cinematic greetings from germany
To add to your DoucheSponsor 4:55: The new quick release (called UKA01) is not backwards compatible -meaning does not fit the old FalcamF38 base plates.
@@cameraconspiraciesright. even though S35 size lenses are lighter n cheaper.. you bought a FF camera... may as well use FF lenses! ppl that want a light setup, use a pancake prime.... and Sony lenses are so damn light anyway.. these ppl should try a Contax/Zeiss and then talk about weight 😂
@@cameraconspiracies The amount you have to zoom in to lose the vignette on the 11mm is tiny and even then its still probably wider than almost anything else available except perhaps the Loawa 10mm , try one and you’ll see the width of the lens negates whats lost in the CIZ crop.
@@cameraconspiracies You don’t need to in slow mo, the slow mo has a very slight crop already which removes the vignette. I’m sitting here right now with my ZVE1 set to 4k 120p with the Sony 11mm f1.8 lens mounted, stabilisation off and there’s no vignette.
Hey there. Wanted to leave some notes here. I have 3 remotes, I don't know why but I do. One bluetooth (RMT-P1BT) and two infrareds (RMT-845 and RMT-DSLR2). All got zoom functions which works with my a7s iii (clear image zoom, I don't have any PZ lenses). Start & stop record button, and RMT-845 got TC RESET button, which I think it's useful if someone have multiple cameras to sync them (to 00:00:00:00). Hope it helps some folks.. or not 🙃 Have a nice weekend!
Just by keeping the camera on it generates heat, obviously not enough to turn it off but it already gives you an idea that it will be a damn boiler in your hands if you need to record long material, that in my opinion is its only disadvantage.
I have the 24mm 2.8. It is not as stable in Active mode. Maybe because of its size/weight? Definitely stable in Dynamic but too much of a crop. Do you have the 18mm Zeiss Batis? I think i would suit you in Dynamic mode.
Mine has never over heated. Lots of all day outside in the summer automotive filming. Buy one used for cheap on marketplace. You can grab these things for like 1200
I custom keyed the focus map to one of my unused buttons as a back up for when I can't tell from the focus magnifier whether my target area is being focused or not. I start and clear enough blue and it gets me 90% there.
I was waiting for an A7S IV, I would have loved a new A7S3, but its pretty much full price even with newer cameras having some better specs. Then the ZV-E1 went on sale....half the price of the A7S3 so, yeah lol....
How hard/time consuming is open gate with a digital crop compared to the auto tracking feature? You could frame it a lot better and avoid lag if you did it yourself.
All the reasons you said it's better than the A7S III is the same reason why I say the A6700 is the best camera ever made. It has all the things you listed, plus it has a viewfinder. And it has lighter APS-C lenses. Plus more zoom due to the crop factor when you're filming birds. Plus some of the new APS-C lenses are so cheap that it's ridiculous. The Yongnuo 11mm f/1.8 is like $300. Lenses that cheap was never possible before.
Overheating issues? I was debating between this camera and the a7cii for a long time. I went with the a7cii because everyone kept saying it overheated, and I didn't want to deal with that issue. I record a lot outdoors in the heat and for long periods of time. The A7cii seems to be more rugged and well built vs the ZV-E1. Your video makes me tempted to get one though lol.
Only real advantage I see is that it’s lighter, and cheaper. But I think most people are still going to vlog with the Pocket 3, which is even lighter and cheaper. If I didn’t already have an A7S3 I would buy it, but I’m not downgrading. I use the EVF. If those new gimmicks are coming to the A7S4, I’m not getting that either.
One of the reasons I got the Pocket 3 is so I can have it track me while I do my TikTok dances… lol I saw one of these for $1500 and I thought about getting it
I’ve been using the ZV-E1 since its release, and I’ve never felt the need for a viewfinder. I guess it’s because when I had a Canon 5D Mark II, I always took photos using the screen instead of the viewfinder.
Also Sony's 50mm f/1.2 does seems to have no low-dispersion lens in it. I know you're not interested in lenses ranging around 'standard' focal lengths though.. Visited 'Dirty photography club', watched some interesting thoughts of his. After wandering around Cosina's (Voigtländer, CV) and Sony's lens pages, I found out Sony's 50mm f/1.2 lacks of any low-dispersion element. Thought it's somewhat interesting.. 🧐
Kasey, have you ever tried setting the stabe to manual and choosing a focal length? I've noticed with my a9 that the auto stabe is jumpier than I'd want it to be whenever I go past 100mm or so, but if I set the stabe to 50mm it's much more smooth.
It’s clear the aliens want us to build 12Mp cameras. All the best cameras that were leaps ahead of predecessors were 12 Mp. Canon 5D mk1 classic. Nikon D700, Sony A7siii. All came along and blew the competition away. With 12Mp you don’t get crop in 4K video, you get better dynamic range, you get better low light noise performance, you get better colour (maybe Sony broke the alien colour), you can get faster sensor read out for higher fps in photography and video. Your photos/video look better with cheaper/softer glass. You preserve micro contrast/ 3D pop from lenses better. Your photos take up less space and are snappier to edit. You don’t have to resize images to upload to social media. The only thing you lose is the ability to crop your photos. Or as I like to put it, “make do with using a smaller fraction of the sensor you paid for “. We need the aliens to leave us the next iteration of 12Mp cameras for us to learn all over again.
🤓 actually that’s completely wrong, the cameras actually 48 megapixels. To do what it does in low light and everything else it shoots at 12 megapixels while buffering. It’s a 48 Megapixel sensor they all are they just video process differently to get you the most amazing 4K. You can get even low light up to 12,800 iso so I guess you want 96 megapixel cameras from Sony so that way you can get maybe 24 megapixels ? Is that what you’re asking?
I’ve been playing with the idea of getting a ZV to replace my a7iv. Just worried about the overheating because my a7iv would overheat in the car (windows down) in 23 degree weather after 5 minutes. And baked in custom luts…cmon.
Oh man what took you so long! ZVE1 is the best Camera Sony ever made. It's like they sent all the boring people off on a corporate retreat for the week and all the kids went wild back at the office and had some fun.
I’d love to see a stabe comparison for handheld video at a telephoto zoom around 200-600mm. Everyone does the vlogging thing but we all know vlogging is for loosers 😉. I love the idea of zve1 but I think the main thing I’d be missing is the viewfinder in sunny conditions where we can’t see the screen
LOL!!! A7S3 is still the DADDY of them all!!! A7S3 was the first one with the sensor, cpu, etc... etc... then the other little children came out of it like the FX3, FX6, ZVE1, etc... etc... but the Daddy is still the A7S3!!! hahahaha I'll keep it for good cause its just soooo great!!! >;))))
I got a 320GB Lexar CFExpress Type A PCIe Gen 3 for $215 from B&H recently so the price is coming down; and they are more reliable than SD cards. CFExpress is the way. F V90 SD Cards. Give me PCI Express!!!
Sony cameras only good for video or "hybrid" work. Nikon and Canon are better for photo ergonomically and feature-wise (modern Canons and even some 10+ year old Nikons have ability to develop your RAWs in camera like you can change WB, exposure, picture profile settings, do precise levelling and perspective correction not just 90 deg rotation, pick output size and compression level, do selective desaturation, shadow pulling and even apply custom curves, yes curves must be pre-made on PC but still...). If you shoot RAW it doesn't mean you should do all the work on PC and pay for software. If any smartphone can develop RAWs flexibly, camera that costs several thousand should be able to do this too. Ability to see final or almost final result in your camera, on spot, is not only "convenient", it is a fundamental part of digital photography era. Cameras that keep forcing users to stick to this time-delayed workflow ("shoot, then go home and develop, just like in film days") not worth any attention. And it's not about lack of hardware capabilities, all those powerful "image processors" already do lot of stuff very quickly, it's about exposure of existing capabilities in the user interface, something that can be solved with a firmware upgrade. And no wonder Sony camera that is dedicated for video-work is better for videos (than a "hybrid" version with same sensor) and is less expensive (because of the EVF at least). Why people keep buying A7Something when all they shoot is videos, idk.
I've owned the A7S3 since it first came out. It's been a workhorse for me and my fav camera ever by far. But for what the ZVE1 is made for, you're bang on with everything. Obviously the viewfinder is huge and the dual card slots and overheating are super important for pros, but with your new Nikon, the ZVE1 is like your perfect camera. PS the A7S3 has a red recording box ;)
Hello, talking about lens elements to see if there is potential in it like old lenses .... there's a factor you missed much of what you seems to reproach to new lenses is just due to the fact that the elements itelf are much closer than on dslr lenses so as Zeiss said for there nano primes, it make design easier and most efficient for less price. So maybe your 3D pop also escaped in the process
I did the same and sold my A7S iii for a ZVE1. I haven't regretted it at all. The AI autofocus is a game changer that I first experienced in my A7R V. The size is amazing, too. It's a dream camera , a true cinema quality camera that can actually fit in a blackmagic sized pocket.
If you want to do a Markus Pix act of kindness, you could unload the A7SIII on me, an unemployed American. I’m kidding, but I will one day buy one for wildlife.
One day people will learn to say "I can't overstate" and "it can't be overstated" rather than "I can't understate" and "it can't be understated". Having filled my Kasey Hyucks quota for the day, now I need to go to a proper camera channel and find out about the ZVE1's horrific flaws that for the moment I can only guess at: massive rolling shutter, terrible dynamic range, lack of any sort of real video monitoring tools, catastrophic low light performance, borked audio, no 24p, who knows. I only know the Sony Reptilians have a cripple hammer of their own, an invisible one, but it works a treat and they ain't afraid to use it.
Hey Kasey, can you do a comparison between Dynamic active stabe+digital zoom vs Active stabe+clear image zoom? You cannot use clear image zoom with Dynamic active, so I'm wondering which of the above combination is better.

To add to your DoucheSponsor 4:55: The new quick release (called UKA01) is not backwards compatible -meaning does not fit the old FalcamF38 base plates.
The old falcam clips fit the new heads.
told ya. :)
ZV-e1 is great.
but just a warning, it will overheat in certain modes. Its the only downside of it.
"This font is impossible to read lol" I said as I read "This font is impossible to read lol" 3:14
:))))
the A6700 is exactly that with apsc sensor
I've seen a lot of ZV E1 users uses apsc lenses like 11mm then use active stabe and 1.4 clear image zoom, The set up just weigh 664g
And then they can't film anything in full frame like 4k 120p or HD 240p.
@@NeilHesterSkateboarding You can't crop in slow mo.
Hope it helps some folks.. or not 🙃
Have a nice weekend!
Silly question probably, but how is the zve1 for overheating? Great video as always loved the font 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just by keeping the camera on it generates heat, obviously not enough to turn it off but it already gives you an idea that it will be a damn boiler in your hands if you need to record long material, that in my opinion is its only disadvantage.
@@FranciscoDK26glad we. Know it's your opinion.
How is the hole in your finger from the sharp strap lug digging in constantly?
Will the ZV-EV1 sync stabe with those ultra better Sigma lenses?
I have the 24mm 2.8. It is not as stable in Active mode. Maybe because of its size/weight? Definitely stable in Dynamic but too much of a crop. Do you have the 18mm Zeiss Batis? I think i would suit you in Dynamic mode.
Did anyone ask the same question about the overheating? did they fix it or people just work around?
You can buy the ulanzi fan for it. It helps a ton! I have it plugged into a vmount battery which helps power the whole thing.
I start and clear enough blue and it gets me 90% there.
is a Sony a1 for sports and wildlife still viable? whats your thoughts. thank you, in advance
I was waiting for an A7S IV, I would have loved a new A7S3, but its pretty much full price even with newer cameras having some better specs. Then the ZV-E1 went on sale....half the price of the A7S3 so, yeah lol....
I have my doubt that the A7S IV will even improve over the A7S III. It might go for higher resolution 6k at the expense of high framerates.
How hard/time consuming is open gate with a digital crop compared to the auto tracking feature? You could frame it a lot better and avoid lag if you did it yourself.
I just got the A6700. Will I ever want to use the Pocket 3 now? Will you now that you have the E1?
My BMPCC4K doesn't have product showcase mode.
I said the same thing, I'm not downgrading. It's an upgrade in everything except the EVF missing.
Can you Do a comparison between the ZV-E1 and Nikon 6-3 ?
Oh man, focus map, 100% agree, same feelings 😂
One of the reasons I got the Pocket 3 is so I can have it track me while I do my TikTok dances… lol I saw one of these for $1500 and I thought about getting it
Tik tok dances are 🌈
Don’t compare toys!
I’ve been using the ZV-E1 since its release, and I’ve never felt the need for a viewfinder. I guess it’s because when I had a Canon 5D Mark II, I always took photos using the screen instead of the viewfinder.
The product mode works really well in the ZV1.
Kasey, I hate to say it but what the heck took you so long to make the a7siii to zve1 switch?!
Getting the Nikon for wildlife made the A7S III expendable.
Also Sony's 50mm f/1.2 does seems to have no low-dispersion lens in it.
I know you're not interested in lenses ranging around 'standard' focal lengths though..
Visited 'Dirty photography club', watched some interesting thoughts of his.
After wandering around Cosina's (Voigtländer, CV) and Sony's lens pages,
I found out Sony's 50mm f/1.2 lacks of any low-dispersion element.
Thought it's somewhat interesting.. 🧐
I hate that when I think I have a good deal and 2 days later someone lists it for way lower.
So how does it do in 4k vlogging and with the smaller battery?
Wish they would give some features like product showcase to fx3
SD cards are too heavy now?
Kasey, have you ever tried setting the stabe to manual and choosing a focal length? I've noticed with my a9 that the auto stabe is jumpier than I'd want it to be whenever I go past 100mm or so, but if I set the stabe to 50mm it's much more smooth.
It makes no difference.
The font is killing me bro!
I enjoy wacky fonts!
You mean 160 MP filming 16K. RUclips scrubs need not apply/
the only trouble is when you intentionally want to film cropped..
like S35 for anamorphic
🤓 actually that’s completely wrong, the cameras actually 48 megapixels. To do what it does in low light and everything else it shoots at 12 megapixels while buffering. It’s a 48 Megapixel sensor they all are they just video process differently to get you the most amazing 4K. You can get even low light up to 12,800 iso
so I guess you want 96 megapixel cameras from Sony so that way you can get maybe 24 megapixels ? Is that what you’re asking?
@@Ryukushin it’s binned down to 12, effectively the same thing, just cheaper then getting a bespoke sensor when they already have 48mp sensors
Nikon D700 was my favorite photo camera. Cropping is so overused, 12mp all the way.
"Dorito-covered hands"... hilarious!
Holy lord, the cinema is ours.
Any problems with overheating yet?
I’ve been playing with the idea of getting a ZV to replace my a7iv. Just worried about the overheating because my a7iv would overheat in the car (windows down) in 23 degree weather after 5 minutes. And baked in custom luts…cmon.
Great little camera. I'm going to scoop one up at $1,500 US
Still waiting on that fx10 that was rumored forever ago
I just wish they put a viewfinder in it, like the A7C series... why not? 🤔
Oh no, I was dreading this one. You gotta hold a funeral for the a7s iii.
But I gotta say that zoom rocker really is nice...
Does the zve1 shoot external raw?
No
if you talk till the morning, ı can listen :)))
End of an era :(
when is the ef 24-105 video ? thank you
When Megadap gets their shit together and make the ef to Z adapter work on the Z6 III. It's bricked right now.
@@cameraconspiracies thanks. I will keep waiting , thanks for the great vids
LOL!!! A7S3 is still the DADDY of them all!!! A7S3 was the first one with the sensor, cpu, etc... etc... then the other little children came out of it like the FX3, FX6, ZVE1, etc... etc... but the Daddy is still the A7S3!!! hahahaha I'll keep it for good cause its just soooo great!!! >;))))
Please review xt50 or xt5
Yeah you convinced me, im getting the zv-e1 😂
And i thought I needed the viewfinder but you know what? Im not a photographer lol
Sony ZVE1 color science is better but there still a smaller ammount of Jaundice as you call it
Mine was 1900€ for the ZV-E1 body ❤
That 24/2.8 is pretty fun
I've owned the A7S3 since it first came out. It's been a workhorse for me and my fav camera ever by far. But for what the ZVE1 is made for, you're bang on with everything. Obviously the viewfinder is huge and the dual card slots and overheating are super important for pros, but with your new Nikon, the ZVE1 is like your perfect camera. PS the A7S3 has a red recording box ;)
As a stills photographer I feel dirty wanting a ZVE1
These are facts
The 20mm 1.8 with this camera is a dream combo.
You should do a comparison of the tracking mode on the ZVE1 and Pocket3 in various scenarios.
Oh, who am I kidding...
No viewfinder. No friggin way.
Any thoughts on the A7 IV?
I did the same and sold my A7S iii for a ZVE1. I haven't regretted it at all. The AI autofocus is a game changer that I first experienced in my A7R V. The size is amazing, too. It's a dream camera , a true cinema quality camera that can actually fit in a blackmagic sized pocket.
If you want to do a Markus Pix act of kindness, you could unload the A7SIII on me, an unemployed American. I’m kidding, but I will one day buy one for wildlife.
I've not heard of "goat throat" but definitely heard of "throat goat".😀
Very popular in the middle east and at P Diddy after parties
Just sold mine the stabilization wasn’t good enough for me for vlogging
Kasey, still waiting for the rat tutorial!
I really want to buy 4 of them but read they overheat. Has there been any firmware fixes or is the solution the little aftermarket fan?
07:34 Bob Barker
Best Buy has it for $1899 brand new. Not sure why someone would buy the it when you can get the a7cii for $2100
That's USD and not even a good deal. It has way better video specs than the lowly a7c II.
3:18 - yes yes, that fart is impossibru to dead
Relax p Diddy, you sound unhinged
how can you have a difference in shutter roll or low light performance when it's the exact same sensor as fx6, fx3, as7iii
Thanks
But is it better than the Samsung NX1? Me thinks not.
My nx 1 needs a new motherboard....
@@unbroken1010 😢
Panasonic needs to launch that 400mm prime soon that they were talking about to complement the 200mm.
I think you need to add "10 Reasons Sony ZVE1 is a Better Blogging Camera Than the a7siii."
Chemical Pumps ?
Hey Kasey, can you do a comparison between Dynamic active stabe+digital zoom vs Active stabe+clear image zoom?
You cannot use clear image zoom with Dynamic active, so I'm wondering which of the above combination is better.
