      +Kene Kk He's a cameraman.
      He jumped on to do his best and be on the most famous adventures, only to find out such a job can be pretty depressingly boring at times.
      I have no idea what they pay him, but I agree, it looks like he's saving up to do something out of his own pocket.
      That's how all those independent documentaries are done.
      Get a boring job that pays you well and gives you experience, and when you have enough you can jump at something, somehow.

      What if we could actually create a Flash for real? The particle accelerator would not do as planned, the Speed Force chooses someone special to become the Flash, and we all become affected by the particles, possibly accidentally giving us each a unique and individual power meant to be used for good.

    Loved it. Fascinating stuff. I watched a film called Particle Fever which covered both the theoretical and experimental sides of particle physics at CERN. One thing I can't get my head round - how do the 4 experiments run simultaneously with just two beams? (or maybe they don't)

    • @calmaccer
      @calmaccer 8 лет назад +2

      +Martin Williams it's two beam pipes containing bunches of accelerated particles (blobs of billions of protons ~25 nanoseconds apart) which go in opposite directions around the ring. These two pipes and then made to cross over at 4 locations - which is where the 4 main experiments are placed (there are more than 4 experiments). I work on ATLAS myself.
      When running you have these two beams, split into bunches, that are simultaneously being smashed into each other at different locations.
      Hope that helps :)

      +calmaccer Thanks very much for the response. What you guys are doing is so important and will make a huge difference to our lives. So, do you synchronise which blobs collide when and where? (I am still imagining them colliding in one experiment and that would prevent the beam continuing to the next experiment..)

      +Martin Williams I hope so! we will start collecting data again at the end of April, hopefully we will have some interesting news by the summer.
      So, the beam is focused and trained so the bunches in each beam will collide at these crossing points. It's like two long trains of carriages, where each carriage is made up of a billion protons and when the trains "cross tracks" each carriage smashes into another carriage of the other "train". But this won't stop the train. In each collision (called bunch crossing) only ~10-20 protons out of billions will actually interact and smash into each other... the rest will continue on. I hope this analogy wasn't too stretched!

      +calmaccer Absolutely not too stretched. Thanks for the explanation.

    The 360 degree video of the national ignition facility is just as cool. As of right now, there are only 6K views, so go watch it.

    I seem to be the only person interested in the background music. Does anyone know what it is? Or is it something that BBC has for their own content?
