Describing the 86 redline noise as “stirring a bunch of rocks in a tin can” is exactly how I felt about the engine when I drove it. I described it as that feeling when you turn on a garbage disposal. I drove the ND Miata after and it was heaven by comparison haha
I can't stand the sound of Subaru motors in general. The turbocharged ones are a little better but NA they are brutal. The ND is pretty quiet but sounds decent and takes an aftermarket exhaust well.

I hope the huge difference in torque and power is not a bridge too far for me. Honestly though I've had enough cars and am at the age where I could be happy with fun to drive versus a sports car with power. Hopefully I can drive one in the near future.
Keep the Camaro and the daily. I have a 2019 STI as my daily and it's a great Dad car, but so is a Camaro when your kid is old enough to enjoy the car with you going on cruises and taking it to the track. I plan on getting a daily so I can enjoy the STI even more on the weekends with my sons.

Too many people disable ASC as soon as they buy the gr86 without any plan to replace the engine noise, and then complain about the sound. Best to leave it on until you have something better to replace it with. In my experience the FA20 (and I’m guessing FA24) can be a really good sounding engine, but takes some small mods.

First time seeing this channel. Good video with decent articulation. Subscribed. I myself have the GR Yaris and a 997 C2S manual, which is a great pairing. Before the 911 I did consider the GT86 but it’s lack of performance meant I steered clear.
THis would be a daily driver for me, so the quiet engine and the higher seating position are good things, however I can see that if you are going to track it they would not be the best. Looks like a good compromise to me, fun and yet reasonably practical.
I think the perfect sportscar would be a combination of these two. The GR86 architecture with the GR Corolla engine. Yes, that would be more expensive than the current 86, but it would be totally worth it.
Great perspective on both cars, I would take the GR86 if I didn't have to worry about a car seat for my toddler 😅. Also I really don't understand why EVERY reviewer gets so disappointed when non-RWD cars aren't able to kick the tail out...... like a RWD car lol. Every drive layout has its pros and cons, lets not ding cars for not beating science (there are some exceptions)
I kinda get it though. The GR Yaris is prone to snap oversteer, and people expected the Corolla to behave somewhat similarly despite the wheelbase difference.
@@mackeymichael I don't really get it. Drifting ruins tires, it's dangerous, most people can't even do it who are taking it into account as a factor. It looks cool sure, but if you can't drift AWD is just better all around.
It’s because there are some front wheel drive cars with a really nice fun feeling turn in like the Elantra n, fiesta st, Mini Cooper and the civic type r that this car sorely lacks
Fun fact: the GR Corolla is actually MUCH closer to the original AE86 Trueno than the GR86. That AE86 was a Corolla with an MR2 engine, which at that point was the car Toyota was planning on taking rally racing. The GR Corolla is as the name implies a Corolla, with the engine from the GR Yaris, which was a homologation special for- you guessed it, the Yaris WRC car. It’s a mirror image almost thirty years later.
Eh? You'd think drivetrain and how they handle makes a better comparison than just what races they're entered into are. As you could say the same as FWD cars as they were rally racers as well.
@@willtaggart Has nothing to do which one is 'better.' Simply don't try to create some fake lineage. The Corolla's that are revered in rally aren't RWD or AE86 based (unless you're Finnish) but were Corolla and Celica GT-Four based platforms. And these two cars are absolutely not 'two of the greatest new cars you can buy.' There needs to be a massive asterisk to say - enthusiasts biased cars in their respective price points. But don't let your rose colored glasses fog your view as even right now both of these GR cars have strong competition without some of the massive failings like the GR Corolla with its $20k car interior or poor engine build quality in the GR86/BRZ. They are what they are.
@@Vermonstered why are you getting so heated? I am not saying that the GR Corolla should be revered in rally, since it is not being raced in any championships. I am only saying that it shares DNA with other rally cars, like the AE86. The AE86 had the engine from the first generation MR2, which Toyota had based the 222D rally platform off of. They didn’t end up taking it racing, and instead built the GT-4 celicas. However, this does show a lineage, I’m not pulling shit out of my ass here. Plus, there is nothing wrong with the interior of either of these cars, they are simple and made to last. No goofy stuff that’ll break in five years
I love my 86! Had it for 9 months already. No mods. I drive it every single day. To work lol. Fun! I like to tell people it’s not fast, it’s quick! Lolol people in Public always compliment it. Only hate you’ll get is on RUclips !
I'm so torn between these two cars. I desire the engine and awd of the corolla but just love the gr86 chasis. With equal tires, which of the two is the faster cornering machine would you say?
Right now, you can purchase a GR86 premium (6MT) for $34k or a GR Corolla for $51k. These are the actual dealer prices in my area with markups. Granted, both are hard to get, but the GRC are really hard to pin down. Every single one that is coming to a dealer has a wait list several people deep for it. Good luck to you if you are shopping for one! Is the GRC $17k better than the 86/BRZ? That for each person to decide. For me, its a no, dog.
Toyota priced the GRC where it should be, people shouldn't overpay 1 penny for it. It has a cheap interior and it's performance isn't anything special beyond it's base price. People are going to regret overpaying for it later.
Maybe perspective but that side by side makes the 86 look tiny in comparison with the Corolla. Shows you how against the grain the 86 is when even the sibling GR has fallen victim to todays sports-platform oversizing (hint hint M division…)
Boxer engines sounds so amazing! I don't understand why people are bothering about the noise, that's the charme of such a car, it's not camry, quite, it's an enthusiast's car!
Much prefer the GR86 to the GR Rolla. The GR Rolla I drove was very underwhelming. I don’t get why people are paying over MSRP of the GR Rolla. It definitely will never oversteer in the dry
The thing that worries me about the aftermarket for this is the same as the SI civic. How much more power can you get out of the tiny engine before putting a hole in your block lol
Take a peek at Motive Video’s deep dive and build series on the Yaris. started stretching studs & lifting head around 500whp, otherwise just needed a more robust clutch around 350whp.
ayee you made it happen! great review. I think the GR Corolla is a better 1 car solution, but you lose the purity of the GR86 driving dynamics. But as an enthusiast daily that can tackle bad weather, this thing looks awesome. Hopefully the aftermarket helps the car come alive. Maybe stiffer sway bars would induce more oversteer?
Hi mate , I’ve a Australian delivered Yaris gr four rally edition . Similar cars , nectarine and peach you might say . This video didn’t even get close to finding the happy place for the Corolla. Find a long mountain with open and sharp corners that say 30 mph and drive double that and you will be in happy land . Add snow and I’d think I’d died and went to heaven . I love fwd cars but these are on another planet . Get one if your in the market . The Yaris is still $ 10000 au more than I paid and we have 400%more than America .

Hey Zygrene. I agree, the factory exhaust makes me pretty sad. I disabled the fake exhaust and installed a Borla exhaust (part number 140909). It's a huge difference. I have no drone at highway speeds. The tone kinda reminds me of a RB20 round 6-7k RPM. I highly suggest your friend consider replacing the exhaust with the Borla if he wants that OEM plus sound. I also replaced the wheels and tires with RPF1 17x8 +45 in the front +35 in the rear wrapped in DWS 06 225 tires. To rotate tires, I dismount and remount the tires XD Ok so the GR Corolla. I haven't had the chance to drive one yet. I am on the list for one. I will see mine later this year, or early next year. I can say, that the GR86 steering weight felt much better with wider ties. I would assume the GR Corolla was designed with the expectation that the owner would switch to wider wheels. With wider wheels, the steering weight will adjust.
I'd rather have ElantraN for the sound, adjustable suspension and interior, tech feel than both. Had old brz before and never had "put you back to the seat effect" and felt boring despite being light and nimble. Elantra n for me solved all that and it's such a better feeling everytime i am behind the wheel. Damn it feels fast in n mode and crazy grip and speed in corners.
Elantra N is a fantastic car but the sloppy shifter/clutch and catfish exterior styling are major turn offs for me. Sounds like a future comparison waiting to happen though!
Agreed on the old 86, but the new one has had a pretty big power bump (power/weight is now comparable to previous gen WRX). Reviewers generally agree that it doesn't feel underpowered anymore.
So when i wanted to upgrade from brz, test drove new gti whose manual transmission felt pathetic especially linkage and absurdly tall gearing. Compared to that elantra's felt tighter more natural and with way better gearing. Honestly compared to old brzs i do prefer hyundai shifter. It feels smoother especially when cold and in lower gears but everyone in forums said it was subaru things and suggested to use lower weight gear oil. I do agree that hyundai feels a bit isolated (feel wise its a bit disjointed) but each gate is smoother. Either way thanks for this vid of these amazing cars and sorry for sidetracking this a bit with unrelated car/topic
Interesting note on the seating position. Kind of takes the fun out of it when you sit high like that - constant reminder that this is an entry level family car.
@@supamariooo yea this is the gr Corolla, it’s 40k. 300 hp turbo 3 cylinder with a cool awd system that you can adjust torque distribution from front to rear with. It’s fairly cool lol definitely not a entry level car
My GR Corolla is speced out exactly like this one aside from roof rack. I have to disagree with the gr absorbing bumps. It's extremely harsh ride in Los Angeles Valley roads. Before this I drove an old 2012 Honda civic. As far as noise the engine is perfect for everyday driver. Not so loud it's annoying but sounds loads better and louder than the civic I had (I dont have other cars I can compare too). Exhaust sounds great in person and it makes tons of turbo noises and occasional intake sounds.
I wish the GR corolla was a funner one car solution, excited to see a FL5 comparison. I see many RUclips reviewers test driving both but end up with the Type-R.
I was disappointed that the GR Corolla comes with the 3-cylinder GR Yaris engine Toyota should have made the Corolla with a 2 Litre 4-cylinder turbo that's what l thought they were going to do. The Honda type R will cream this Corolla for an enthusiast.
Thank you sooo much for this review. I really needed to hear about the driving dynamics of both cars and for me.... the GR86 ticks more boxes between the two. Cheers Don, Perth W.Australia (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)
@@bennyang8049 I would imagine te GRC is not far off (maybe not the base model, certainly the one with LSDs). Would also agree with Zygrene, driving dynamics are completely different, an exhaust easily solves the being too quite problem, a couple of degrees negative camber in front fix the understeer, but forget about drifting in dry tarmac (even in wet you need to push it really hard). But snow drifting in it is a great experience (also time attacks you beat significantly more expensive cars out of the box)
@@JasonISF night and day due to AWD vs RWD. Was hard for me to learn how to drift the GRY and only in wet or snow racetracks, in public it gets too dangerous. GT86 was drifting in every single roundabout/corner. Other than that, the GRY is significantly faster on the racetrack than the GT86 (would bet vs the GR86 as well). GT86 much more accessible and very fun at low speeds, GRY you forget fun in public roads and need to be pushed hard to start coming alive
@@nikosdimitriadis9987 what mods did you have on your GT86? On my BRZ I had coilovers, upgraded sway bars and upgraded tyres so it was pretty quick through the corners and kept up with much more powerful cars in the hills and even on the track. I now have an older WRX and while it is a lot faster in a straight line than the BRZ was, it doesn't handle as well or is as 'sporty'/engaging to drive.
Good analysis. Didn't see the same level of Zy-Excitement on this one. It seems that the GR Corolla it not living up to expectations (or hype) on driving dynamics. I sat in one and didn't think the driving position and visibility was very good. Also, the hard interior plastics is just not acceptable 40K USD car. The FK8 has a better interior and it came out in 2017. At this price point, the FL5 is a much more compelling proposition from a driving experience and interior quality (assuming AWD is not needed). Plus, hard to beat the FK8/FL5's drivetrain and gearbox. I think this GR should have been priced in the 33-35k range to make sense. The GR 86 is too much of a bargain. In spite of all this, I am very happy Toyota is making this car. Maybe in the used market down the road it would be more appealing. We can then see how that 1.5L highly boosted engine will hold up
Great insight on the back-to-back comparison between these two! Subjective opinions on looks aside, I’ll likely be cross-shopping these two along with the new WRX in the near future. Pricing is definitely a major factor: while the GR86/BRZ can be had at MSRP, and the WRX often below MSRP, the GR Corolla and FL5 Type R are really getting marked up into entry level Porsche territory. The WRX, GRC, and Type R seem like better fits for all-around daily drivers; and while the WRX lacks in the braking department, its competence on the road + major price advantage make it a compelling option if you can get over the looks. The BRZ/GR86 have the engaging sports coupe formula down to a T, but in doing so lose some practicality compared to the aforementioned cars. Glad to have all these options before the EV wave, but these dealerships are really pushing away many enthusiasts with their practices.
I promise u the gr 86 is very pratical. Unless u need rear seat for passengers. Ive lugged all of my clothing in one large duffle bag, 4 other back packs, car jack, 4 jacl stands, power drill, road bike with a road bike rack.
@@maginext I can certainly make it work. I used to daily an FRS and have had a ton of other sports cars to compare to. It’s doable, but definitely still a compromise in utility compared to the other 4 door and hatchback options.
I'm gonna install some front camber bolts on my GR86 soon. Do you think -1.5 degrees (or matching the rear camber) with stock toe is a good idea? Right now I like that the car is stable under rapid directional changes and hard braking, and the car is easy to save if the rear breaks loose. I'd like to keep those. But I'm not a fan of the car giving me a noticeable sense of understeer (not actual understeer) right before rotation happens, and I wanna dial that understeer sense down.
I recommend pairing OEM crash bolts (upper) with SPC adjustable camber bolts (lower). I was able to achieve -2.6 front camber on stock suspension with this setup. These cars need as much negative camber up front as possible to achieve the feel you described, especially on track.
@@Zygrene Oh the ones I have are Whiteline 16mm (upper) bolts... They offer +/- 0.75 degrees max. I mostly drive on the streets btw (it's my daily driver). So I guess I just max the negative camber out?
Unfortunately it would ruin the driving dynamics. What makes the GR86 shine is the predictable power of that naturally aspirated engine, and the low center of gravity the boxer layout provides.
I think the hype blew all expectations out of proportions for the GRC, no idea why anyone expected a FWD-based AWD system to be a oversteer monster. You put it in 30:70 mode on loose/wet surfaces for some hoonery shenanigans and that's it. Love to get one when hype is cooled and markups disappear, though.
@@Zygrene is there aftermarket for hyrallic steering for at least cars that arnt too heavy , like under 3500lbs? would be great to feel how close to grip limit car is so one can minimize braking and g forces for longveity of fuel, lubricant, tires, brakes, battery (battery degradation killing cars while 90s camry still runs if maintained as instructed) etc. also hydrallic pedals that push back more you push in to make it less muscle straining to hold position and discourage over powering/brkaing. i rerember toyota video of hydrallic anti roll bar that engaged for maintaining momentum around turns in exchange for less suspension movement ie less anti bumpy ride and for land cruiser it helps off roadability to get grip on rocks. it automatically disengaged on road and could be switched on/off. i rerember it was shown in video with animation of a prius... was there a version for sedans/small suvs at some point in trd or gr department? if tesla was front wheel drive it would be more efffceint but maybe that doesn tmatter for saving money for now before govnerment moves tax on petrol to electrity when enough people shift to electric because they plan to make it illegal to sell new combustion cars, if they can even manage the electric grid handling all that much more energy with tx dolars for something that degrades to death sooner but cant be recycled, while petrol is from pools of thick liquid as byproduct of anerobic bacteria so like human donating blood, as long as dont take too much at a time, it wont run dry. but acid rain and smog causing health problems per car cant be tolerated as population grows, although they also say they want to massivly reduce population anyway. maybe if recyling is fixed with maybe tetratinite and salt battery, then ev will be actually cheap to own. the more batteries you add less deagradation but exopnentially more energy going in and out in practical applications because weight, worsensing degradation at some point of adding batery... i dont know what the balanced amount is, small combustion solves not being bale togo unexpected trips, or not enough riving range at very heat/cold, not being able to charge because local grid or lack of chargers, low weight (see aptera owners club video on safety, lightweight, high energy absorbance of crash and human suddenly stoping speed and structural strength, is safe for people in car and for people and weak cars involved in crash). weight also worsen road wear. if fed cared about emisssions saftey etc theyd tax weight and overall emissions like nox etc not c02 bc that doesnt make a difference to natural ice ages etc, and tax lack of longveity per prediction (they dont care). see quantum concious video called reality reveals itself series and romanian tvee video called why woke wont go broke, wireless ability to disable stuff for not behaving or just to make money off softwrae for hardware you already payed for, etc, wireless remote keys allow wireless car theft... maybe thats why new toyota prius doesnt offer wireless key unless pay big money.
is there an aftermarket oil cooler on that gr86? I noticed even with your decently hard pulls it was in the 180s. Mine rockets to 220 on the highway entrance ramp with stock cooler.
Makes sense and doesn’t make sense to compare these two (I would have produced the same video... I get it). When you compare cars that are apples and oranges, even though our type of enthusiasts love them both), the final answer is usually gonna be “whichever one suits your driving style” or even need of utility level (I have two toddlers).

I put my teenage daughters both in the gr86. What they are designed for. Haha. Just got my GRcorolla and man is it sweet. It’s for fun. I use it as my commuter vehicle. So far so good
The GRC is a dad's car. The dads here will understand what im saying. I have a s2000 to drive on the track if i want the 100% engaging driving experience with 0% practicality. I just need something fun to drive all year around that i can also pick up kid and groceries with. This is the car.
Sitting to high?? You look like you are barely looking over the steering wheel/Dash !! I’ve sat in a Corolla and didn’t like the forward look. Dash is just to high for forward visibility. Love my 22 BRZ
I may be in a minority that prefers to sit really low, as long as I can still see over the dash. The stock GR86 seating position is perfect for me with the seat in its lowest position.
@@Zygrene I’m taller then you I’m sure and my seat in my BRZ is almost at top setting so I can look down my hood. I feel forward visibility is good like that.
BRZ/GR86 is actually taller peep friendly. I'm 6' 2" & 260lbs & I fit comfortably. I can't physically get inside an S2000 & a Miata isn't much better 🤪 Still debating between these 2, hopefully the Toyota dealer up the road can manage to get a GR Corolla on the lot
I'm more curious how things are looking in terms of getting aftermarket turbo/supercharger kits. Sounds like people have recently made breakthroughs on the ECU, so maybe soon ish?
This might sound stupid because i know the obvious answer about power.. but i currently have a 2018 Mustang Ecoboost and i have the opportunity to get either one of these cars.. I prefer the look of the GR86 but will the power be a drastic change? I like the mustangs torque and i know the 86 has a lot less.. as for the corolla, i don’t know how to drive a manual so that’d be a big learning curve for me.. I’m not a car expert either, so go easy on me 😂
Lame the seat won’t go lower…you look to be seated way too high to be in a good performance position. Also, a peddle commander or sprint booster should dial out the initial acceleration lag.
I put it in Track mode, but it didn't make a noticeable difference on this higher speed road. Looking forward to testing another GR Corolla on my favorite road soon.
I prefer Elantra N's usable backseat and potentially faster track car. Looking forward to when the track opens up in the spring and pitting the Korean against the Japanese.
I guess the GRC can be 2 things the BRZ/86 can't be - a rally car monster and/or a fun practical single car solution daily but it's not the raw RWD sports car feel in the BRZ/86, even with it's most rear biased setting?
Spot on, whoever thinks the 70/30 mode turns it into a RWD drive is in for a big disappointment. This is proper AWD gripping everywhere and different dynamics (also needs to be pushed harder to come alive)

I have pretty much always said this, until toyota puts a toyota built motor into the 86 platform, I won't bother. Boxer engines are old, clunky to work on, inefficient, unreliable more often than I would like, heavy, etc. I am pretty sure they could stuff the 3 cylinder into the gr86 and it would work just fine and would probably be better. Heck, honestly the A25A FKS with 5w30 oil would probably perform just fine in such an application.
Still not convinced the GRC is worth its price tag. I would have to drive one to really decide. That being said at 40k there are a ton of sportier cars out there. Gr86 is cool though.
I owned a 2022 Neptune blue GR86 and loved the handling dynamics, the looks and the price at MSRP which I drove 500 miles to get. I would love to drive a GR Corolla, unfortunately the closest in dynamics I have driven was a 2015 WRX STI and it did not live up to the legend I had built in my mind before driving it. As it was very prone to understeer, it felt heavy and not very engaging. How would you compare the new GR Corolla vs a STI?
Had? You already got rid of it? Sad if you really drove 500 miles to not even keep it. I was lucky enough to get one just an hour away from my house at msrp. It's not the color I wanted but everything else is perfect.
@@CruiseControl1 interesting decision. Can I ask why? Seems like the gr86 is better in almost every aspect to a majority of enthusiasts. Maybe aside from if you want a convertible.
@@alexc7864 GR86 is great. I just wanted to create something from the ground up (blank canvas), so I bought an NB Miata with a roll bar and a new top for $4k cash. There is no reason to have a turbo car if all the turbo souls have been muted out. I'll always take the responsiveness of a naturally aspirated engine over a turbo...unless it sounds like I'm driving a jet.
Well, Toyota is already putting the 3-cylinder engine into the GR86 platform for racing. That says it can be done, with the question about cost outstanding. The question I have is whether they would put that combo into production. Toyota could axe the 4-cylinder Supra, which doesn't sell, and fill that price point with a turbo 3-cylinder GR86.

As a gr86 owner I fully agree
I can't stand the sound of Subaru motors in general. The turbocharged ones are a little better but NA they are brutal. The ND is pretty quiet but sounds decent and takes an aftermarket exhaust well.
That’s kind of the charm of a boxer motor, no? I love the sound of a older Porsche, like a 997. The boxer clatter to me is cool.
That's why subaru's need aftermarket exhausts.... to cover up the engine sounds......
I enjoy the brutal sound of the 86, it might not sound great to others but for me it gives me the thrill and liveliness

I think the perfect sportscar would be a combination of these two. The GR86 architecture with the GR Corolla engine. Yes, that would be more expensive than the current 86, but it would be totally worth it.
It be a 2 seater with a reliable
Engine lightweight and fun to drive and track and cheap
To maintain… oh duh miata! Lol
But at the very least a 86/brz with a reliable

Great perspective on both cars, I would take the GR86 if I didn't have to worry about a car seat for my toddler 😅. Also I really don't understand why EVERY reviewer gets so disappointed when non-RWD cars aren't able to kick the tail out...... like a RWD car lol. Every drive layout has its pros and cons, lets not ding cars for not beating science (there are some exceptions)
I kinda get it though. The GR Yaris is prone to snap oversteer, and people expected the Corolla to behave somewhat similarly despite the wheelbase difference.
@@DairyKing404 The GR Yaris sounds better to me then.
Short wheelbase and 200 Kw of power they look kind of of weird but l love em
@@mackeymichael I don't really get it. Drifting ruins tires, it's dangerous, most people can't even do it who are taking it into account as a factor. It looks cool sure, but if you can't drift AWD is just better all around.

@@jordano3088 because you don't need to drift to have a little fun.
Pretty boring fact
Eh? You'd think drivetrain and how they handle makes a better comparison than just what races they're entered into are. As you could say the same as FWD cars as they were rally racers as well.
@@Vermonstered not saying that this makes one better than the other. I really like both, they are two of the greatest new cars you can buy
86

Not sure if the GR Corolla is the reason Toyota killed off manual transmission on the se and xse hatchbacks.
Can you turn of that beeping sound in the GR 86 where it tells you to shift to the next gear?
Much prefer the GR86 to the GR Rolla. The GR Rolla I drove was very underwhelming. I don’t get why people are paying over MSRP of the GR Rolla. It definitely will never oversteer in the dry
you tried it vs Type R / Integra Type S? if so, what did you think
The thing that worries me about the aftermarket for this is the same as the SI civic. How much more power can you get out of the tiny engine before putting a hole in your block lol
they got up to 500hp. then it
needs head studs and valve springs. good to go.
Take a peek at Motive Video’s deep dive and build series on the Yaris. started stretching studs & lifting head around 500whp, otherwise just needed a more robust clutch around 350whp.
It's a stout engine. The cylinder walls are very thick even though it's an open deck. They hold plenty of power
ayee you made it happen! great review.

The Corolla engine in the GR86 would be perfect
Hey Zygrene. I agree, the factory exhaust makes me pretty sad. I disabled the fake exhaust and installed a Borla exhaust (part number 140909). It's a huge difference. I have no drone at highway speeds. The tone kinda reminds me of a RB20 round 6-7k RPM. I highly suggest your friend consider replacing the exhaust with the Borla if he wants that OEM plus sound. I also replaced the wheels and tires with RPF1 17x8 +45 in the front +35 in the rear wrapped in DWS 06 225 tires. To rotate tires, I dismount and remount the tires XD
Ok so the GR Corolla.
GR86 for me pls
no doubt about that
If you want more action from the Rally car you need to give it more speed through the bends 😆
Yea he was driving the GRC like it was an 86 lol 😅
Hes not the one to watch
Dude you just keep rolling out the big hitters! Cant wait to see this channel grow
I would like to see a video review or comparison with the new WRX compared to the GR corolla
Very professional. It is clear that you scripted your response, avoiding the usual repetitiveness so common on RUclips.
Interesting note on the seating position. Kind of takes the fun out of it when you sit high like that - constant reminder that this is an entry level family car.

People also say the Gr86 absorbs bumps. It does not. When I first bought the car, long trips were giving me headaches.
I can see the 60:40 split being useful on bad winter days when there is lots of snow and you are just trying to get around.

Envy you, we cannot have the GR Yaris in the US
@@bennyang8049 I would imagine te GRC is not far off (maybe not the base model, certainly the one with LSDs).
@@nikosdimitriadis9987 as a former owner of the gen 1 BRZ, how does the GR Yaris compare to the GT86?
We can then see how that 1.5L highly boosted engine will hold up
1.6
I spit out my toothpaste laughing when he said the owner said the jbl sound system was absolute garbage
It's definitely mediocre. Not a banger, not tinny. Just middle of the road
How can I deactivate the sound that warns me to change speed in gr86?
That's the alignment I have. -1.6 front camber. It's a must do.
gr86 needs the gr corolla engine/turbo setup, would be insanely fun!
Unfortunately it would ruin the driving dynamics. What makes the GR86 shine is the predictable power of that naturally aspirated engine, and the low center of gravity the boxer layout provides.
Good show of how rowing the gears and crack-the-whip handling remain a priority for auto enthusiasts.
GR86 all day for me. GR Corolla seems less engaging, I'd probably just speed in it all the time to get some thrills.
So which car is more fun to drive? Judging by your response to driving both I think your winner is the GR86
On a canyon road, GR86 is much more engaging
@@Zygrene inline 3 sounds good tho, in a lotus elise with some way to get it to sound like a clean k series sound with little white noise type sound.

I'm also fairly sure those are crap summer tires and not actually all seasons.

Also, a peddle commander or sprint booster should dial out the initial acceleration lag.
Did you actually put it in race mode? I didn't see gauge cluster change. Not that it matters much.

Just a souped up Corolla. 😂
It's a better STI. Best way to sum it up.
You should compare the gr Corolla to the last WRX STI
Haven't driven an STI, but that would be a great comparison

I can't be the only car guy that could give a crap how a car sounds, how it drives is what matters.
I would have bought the GR86 but I just cannot support buying an engine with such a blatant RTV sealant issue.
There is no reason to have a turbo car if all the turbo souls have been muted out. I'll always take the responsiveness of a naturally aspirated engine over a turbo...unless it sounds like I'm driving a jet.
They just need to put the gr 1.6 engine into the 86/brz
What I like is the GR Corolla only because it's all Toyota.
I don't see the GR Corolla as having $40,000 worth of value, sorry. I feel that turbo would've been much better suited in the GR86 as well.
Why are you reviewing two cars that a completely unavailable?
i thought the 86 had hydraulic steering
Theres some good sounding gr86s out there for the moment. Its a fixable issue
Man honestly i dont think you drove the corolla Hard enough. You were babying it if you want to feel the car you have to Beat on it
