    That's really cool, I'm 67 and I bought 20 acres in Northern Arizona, my Wife thinks I'm crazy starting so late, but I still think I'm able, I'll be building this Spring. I'll be watching for Your Progress, I did look back on Your Channel and watched the Maiden of the Covid Cub, very cool, I also have been building and flying RC since I was 13, J3 Cub is one of My favorites, hope to see some more of the House soon... Nice Work.. 👍👍🤠

      If you “think” you are able, you “are”! The weather up here pretty much dictates how much you will get done in a day. Spring winds, then monsoon season. It all comes in waves. Go for it and good luck! Thanks for the comments too!

      Congrats on your 20 acers! There seems to be a GAP in places for Seniors on SS. I dont want 1200sqrft+ and a yard to landscape just to match the neighbors. I think many retirees would be happy with a small, one level, no debt, near medical facilities. But we're forced out to the Desert on large lots far from medical for costs...go figure....

    Congratulations to you guys for making the leap! Age is just a number...we made the leap last year in our early 50s and have not regretted a thing! We are in Cochise County in SE Arizona. You've done a great job and we are wishing you all the best in your new life :) God bless!

    My wife and I in our 70’s built in the California Sierras a home at the 4 k. Elevation. Your process looks similar except we had to deal with the pine and fir trees. Fun isn’t it!

    What an awesome chronicle of the progress you've made. I loved the technique you used to move the roof panels up to their final destination. The panorama of the colorfillied sky is one of the things I've liked most about my visits to Aizona. Thanks for sharing this. I'll hang onto it for inspiration as we contemplate our retirement home.

    I wish you luck but a place with no discernable water supply sounds pretty iffy to me. Also.. are you taking precautions for possible Hanta Virus and plague in the soils. Apparently there are a number of cases every year.
    Do the mice really eat people's car wires out there?

    • @socalives
      @socalives  Год назад

      😂, not mice but rats go for the wires! We did our due diligence and checked neighbors well reports via wells55.com We had our well drilled first thing. We are in the Coconino aquifer. No issues with Hunta virus. Thanks for the comment!👍🥂

    Was 1200sqft a Code requirement?
    What was your Permitting process and Inspections steps?
    Why Stick & Gypsum in an Adobe, earthen climate?
    Did you hire an Architect and/or Engineer or are the Plans purchased?
    What level of Contractor did you use and how did you find a local to build in that style?

    • @socalives
      @socalives  Год назад +3

      1200 sq ft was not a requirement. Apache County does not require engineered drawings. We did not purchase plans because we did our own drawings to scale. Simple process. Go to Apache County Building department online for more info. Hubby has experience in lumber/framing so that’s the direction we took. Simple design, 2bed, 2 bath, open cathedral ceiling in kitchen/living room. And lots of attic space!

    • @socalives
      @socalives  Год назад +1

      No. Spring time is the windiest. It comes in waves. 2-3 days build up then stops. Last year we had more full blown wind advisory. It made it a real challenge for building! Thanks for the comment!👍
