Instead of 3D printing just go to Homedepot, walk over to the bathroom section and pick up a pair of toilet 1/2” nylon bolts drill a hole and you have a perfect fit “specialty” bolt.
Why 1Up can’t realize that when there multiple videos of people solving a poor design that maybe they should make a decent, simple mechanism standard is the bigger mystery.
i love the simplicity ,would probably add a tube type handle, & would hope that you would consider selling the 1/2" 13 plastic 3D printed rope savers ? ?
Brilliant. So simple. Not really a big need for plastic bolts. Just make another one when the rope frays too much. Or stuff/twist in a piece of thin walled flexible tubing in the threaded hole and fish the rope through might work. Great idea. Thanks
This is great Chris I ended up using your design to make my own. No more bruises on my arms! I didn’t print the design I just purchased a large set of nylon nuts and bolts.
This was very helpful, thank you! I ended up doing this with several layers of heat shrink wrap instead of the hollow bolts. If you are willing to print and sell the 3D printed bolts, I would be happy to buy them from you.
What diameter pull cord did you use? I’m seeing 3, 4, and 4.5mm options on Amazon and wasn’t sure what worked with the 3D printed bolt from Thingiverse. Thanks!
I just got the 4 bike rack with the add on extension bar from 1Up. I'm so unhappy with it I'm thinking of returning it. My thumb got stuck under the extension bar 4 xs-very painful and if someone hadn't been there I wouldn't have been able to get my thumb out. 2 men and myself struggled quite a lot trying to get it to pull up so that we could put the rack into a different position. I saw some other videos of people struggling a bit, too, and 1 video where someone really has a hard time with lots of weight. Anyone else have this problem? I'm amazed that you can get it to pull up just with that rope! maybe that's even better than 1Up's extension because the poles aren't perfectly straight, surprisingly. Not sure if that has something to do with it, however 1 other youttuber had a hard time opening it without the extension bar, saying they had to try several xs, needing to get it just right. Is your system still working out now? thx
Colin, I had 2 bolts made using the download. But it appears the threads are the wrong thread. Any suggestions as I have called 1UP and asked if they discounted the EZpull since it was an issue with their design. They were extremely rude and arrogant. How did you get the bolt to fit?
It's absolutely f_____g asinine that you pay $5,6,7,800 for one of these and you have to jerry rig it with rope to operate it. I'm not impressed with these racks.
Someone made a bolt specifically for this. Check it out here:

“Someone” who makes these should sell them.
I am that someone and I do.
I'd add a section of clear plastic hose for a better more comfortable grip on the rope.

Really nice job. Sort of a joke 1up just doesn’t make their racks with the Ezpull included.
Equip D has it included
1up should learn from this vid and have that feature built in.
I did the same and used an old, worn-out lock-on (bicycle handlebar) grip as a handle.
This is a great idea, I will have to try it !! 👍🏼

What’s the thread pattern/ pitch on those 3D printed bolts?
Just used your hack for my rack! Thank you very much! So much better now!

Great! Where did you get the nylon bolts?
@@colchilibeck Amazon
@@nickbritt Could you post a link to the bolts for others?
@@nickbritt link please :)
@@jaron808 Hi, did you happen to have the link or details for the nylon bolts and nuts you got? Thanks

4.5mm should work.
Dude, nice MacGyver

Great idea cuz I have to bend down and pull and often it’s uneven. A real pain

They were snug but I was able to thread them in.
You can warm them with a heat gun and the threads will be able to adjust.
Does your trunk fullu open with the rack down on? Also do you have a video of that?
Hi Colin the 3d printed bolt isn't hollow right? So I would still need to drill a hole correct?
www.thingiverse.com/thing:5914954
Check that out!
Looking to get the 1 up. this won't work if you have add an additional tray, correct?
It should still work since each tray should have those same holes, because you can add trays to have 4 total
Oh man I had the same idea. Nice.
Brilliant !!! 👍👍👍
Mind sharing the STL files you used to 3D print the bolts?

Stop calling Zip-Ties…”Zap-Traps” 🤦
anybody know what the thread is for the plastic nuts?
1/2-13UNC (13 threads per inch)
Zip straps?
Are you asking what they are?
I can't find the tiny zap straps on Amazon -what are they and where can I get some? Thanks!
Zip ties
