  • Demonstration, tips, and long term review of the 1Up Super Duty Double bike rack (pre-2024 version). It's a great rack, and I will show you why it works for me and may work for you, but it's far from perfect. I apologize in advance for the length, but there's a lot to cover, and there are still a few things I forgot to mention (such as clearance from the ground, how it performs offroad, and locking/security options.
    Let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything else I missed.

    Best most realistic review of this rack I've seen, thanks. It's not all roses for sure. You have some legit criticism and a few whatevers. But I think what this convinced me most is never to buy their black anodized. Not only have I heard it fades quickly but it doesn't look very nice up close. I'm also glad my entire family is on 29ers now so no need to switch between tire sizes

    I have the double + 2 more trays. I bought the 3 extension, and cut down to put on the 2 but a touch longer than the 2 stock length. This way I leave the guide bar plate on all the time, it just sandwiches between trays 2 and 3. Again a touch longer to not pinch one's fingers... And for pushing the bikes up once tilted down, just push on both top tubes. The raptor sound is not metal on metal, but rather on the plastic bushings. Loosen, and a touch of silicon lube. If the arms are ever stiff, the just tightened up at the arm and ratchet bar connection. I go between this and my Velocirax 6 depending on needs. Once you have the front wheel free, just pull bike forward. I rarely have to release the rear wheel to get bikes out unless pedals are contacting another bike.

    Another perk about the raised tray design, especially with the 4-tray setup, is that you're less likely to scrape the road with the back of the rack in a lower car like a minivan.

      Great point! Used to scrape my Thule rack all the time

    Nice explanation. But I noticed that the slot on the receiver mount is below the center line of receiver hitch hole. This is conflicting to my sensibilities. Those engineers (rascals) don’t want us to use standard 5/8 hitch pins? Or, sales wants to sell me some lame 1/4” hitch pin? Argh!
    Yours Truly.

    • @Ricks-Rides
      @Ricks-Rides  День назад

      @@yourstruly5289 Yup, the slot on the rack is too narrow for a 5/8 hitch pin. I’m guessing it makes the rack stronger by minimizing that space 🤷🏻‍♂️. So yeah, you pretty much have to buy their specific locking hitch pin.

    Would the squeaking sound improve with extra grease?

    • @Ricks-Rides
      @Ricks-Rides  7 дней назад

      Since making this I've learned you can barely loosen some of the pivot point bolts which can help. Can also put a tiny bit of WD-40 (lubricant) or Dry Lube on the pivot points where the arms attach to the trays. Just have to avoid getting any lubricant or grease anywhere else on the rack.

    They make an extention handle so that you don't have to reach in the back of the rack.

    • @Ricks-Rides
      @Ricks-Rides  3 месяца назад +1

      Yup, I mentioned that. You have to order it separately and depending on how many trays you have depends on the length of extension you have to buy. So if you’re switching between 2, 3, and 4 trays often the extension handle can be super inconvenient. Not a deal breaker, just helpful for people to know before they buy.

    Is this an aftermarket curt hitch or OEM?

    • @Ricks-Rides
      @Ricks-Rides  2 месяца назад

      Yup aftermarket. I bought it from etrailer.com and installed it myself. It wasn’t too hard to do. I did wire it for trailer lights though, which unfortunately required running the wires underneath the frame and up to the battery.

      @@Ricks-Rides good to know. I have a third gen rav4 as well and am looking into hitches. I don’t think I’ll install the wiring yet because I only plan on using it for a bike rack. You haven’t had any issues with ground clearance have you?

    • @Ricks-Rides
      @Ricks-Rides  2 месяца назад

      Awesome, love the RAV4. I have had zero issues with ground clearance fortunately. It’s pretty snug under the frame and bumper.

      @@Ricks-Rides That’s good to hear. Do you recall if you bought the standard curt trailer or the eco trailer? The ECO’s tend to sit higher off the ground.

    • @Ricks-Rides

      I just have the Curt class 3 hitch receiver. Those EcoHitch hitch receivers look great, with even more clearance. Just a bit more expensive, but might be worth it.

    So if your E-bikes have fenders or racks on rear wheel , this bike rack probably wouldn't work for me .

    • @Ricks-Rides
      @Ricks-Rides  2 месяца назад

      Long fenders and wheel racks can be problem for most racks, including this one unfortunately. Check out the Saris “Door County” rack or a similar design. Should do the job!

      That is a good observation. I’m considering a new rack, but we do have rear racks , so I’ll need to consider that.

      They sell a wheel stop attachment. We use it on our bike with fenders and works great!

    • @kjm8135
      @kjm8135 Месяц назад

      You can move the piece that tightens down so it hits your tires and not the fender.
