Krist carries this song. It's basically a showcase of his bass riff talent and him getting almost zero respect in the bass scene is still absolutely criminal to this day. He's certainly had more influence on my bass playing than I'd ever like to admit.
Agreed. Drums and bass are sorely underrated and are the most essential instruments in music. I also hate how everything is auto-tuned now. Kurt is flat in quite a few places when he's trying to belt out high notes and it makes the whole thing way more genuine and real. Imagine Nirvana being auto-tuned. It'd make you want to rip out your ears.
Never be ashamed to admit Krist is one of your favourite bass players. He was cool as fuck, came up with some of the most interesting and unusual basslines of the whole grunge era, and to top it off he had one of the greatest tones of all time. The dude is a legend
Tbf he gets more love for bass these days what with Reddit and RUclips and everything. He is my single biggest bass influence musically and stylistically, with Carlos Dengler a close second. I'm sure Andy Rourke sneaks into my playing and a lot of Matt Freeman too, to name a couple others. Paul Simonon, McCartney.. I love bass. Wish I'd found my passion years ago instead of playing guitar for so long. It would definitely have made finding a band easier back in high school.
What would it matter if he was terrible or godlike Kurt Cobain was the frontman nuff said.

when my husband and I met we asked each other what our favorite Nirvana song was and we both said, "You know....." and went crazy when it was the savage Lounge Act.
Hands down, the most underrated Nirvana song. This is one of my absolute favorites from them besides Sifting.
I mean, really. You can hear the passion and emotion coming from Kurt's voice in the screaming part. You can tell that him, Dave and Krist put their all into this track.

This music will forever be the soundtrack to my teens, the first time I got high, the first time I jammed with a live band, and all the weirdness and awkwardness that comes with growing up. That ride cymbal switch totally opens up the energy of the song and Kurt jumping up an octave just floors it.

Dave is just an absolutely amazing drummer. He makes it sound so simple and easy, but pure genius is lurking just beneath the surface.

Honestly, this is the best part out of the entire song. I love how the drums and cymbals feel louder with each hit, along with Kurt’s tone, even when he’s already been shrieking the lyrics, he still amplifies it.

God Kurt's emotions are just so...in your face and undeniable when he wanted them to be. Especially his anger or pain. Only other singer in this genre/ time period who might top Kurt for expressing feelings vocally is Layne. RIP to both legends...

IMO This is maybe one song that sums up Nirvana the best. It has all the elements that made them great - Solid lyrics w/ Kurt’s vocals arguably at their best (coming in raw but still relatively clean), Krist Novoselic w/ an instantly catchy bass line in the perfect tone & Dave Grohl rocking out some tight, high energy drums

I've always gone insane by listening to this song ever since I bought this album back in the old days when I was 11 years old. I can't forget those days, and as a matter of fact I can defintely assume that those were the best times of my life, I was so happy and barely had a mere idea that I truly was.

Younger generations don't get to experience the moment of hearing this song for the first time, before Nirvana blew up, amidst the context of Motley Crue, Trixter, etc., etc., this song hit SO different than what was on the radio, MTV (before Teen Spirit blew up)...It was a revelation.

This is my Top 10 Nirvana Songs of All time as it's rarely played it ever at all, has that Great Bass riff, Kurt just screaming his guts out at the end just So Powerful of a Song, and imo is one of there Must Hear of there Catalogue before you pass.

Still here in 2024. This album changed my LIFE. Made me open my mind to music and look at the world from a different perspective. This was and is still my favorite song off of Nevermind. I remember blasting it in the car and screaming my head off. It's why I have the smiley face logo tattooed on my arm. I was one person before hearing this album, then eight year old me realized there was an entire world of music out there. I was never the same.
