Dear Kurt
Today, you‘ve been gone for 30 years.
Even though you died years before I was born, you are my biggest inspiration, the reason I love music and the reason I‘m still breathing.
I can’t believe I will never get the chance to see you live and to sing, yell and scream along with you. I can’t believe I will never get to listen to new songs you write and I can’t believe I will never even get the chance to meet you.
But I guess, it is better to burn out than to fade away. You left a hole in the world.
You saved me and so many more, I wish we could have saved you.
I miss you every day.
Sleep well, Kurt, wherever you are. Last night, tonight and forever.
And Kurt would say....."save yourself kid"
In this times Kurt would say more than ever...Empathy!
Kurt would scream out to the wars that are happening today.
His being grunge wasn't a pose, was authentic. And that's who he was. He spoke about homophobia and racism and sexual abuse when none of the others did. Today he will speak out about Middle East and the richest 1% getting richer and climate change
How can such strength come from such a sensitive, broken soul?
His strength was his sensitive soul! He was too good for this world, SHE wanted what he had so SHE took him away from us. In reality he is part of us and SHE can never take that away. He lives on forever through his music!

Imagine being a Nirvana fan in 2002 and this shit drops out of nowhere
Dude, it was fucking nuts, and it's been my favorite Nirvana song ever since.
Yes it was absolutely the highlight of that year 4me and any of friends that were true fans. I wish they would play this on our rock station in Knoxville.
I got goosebumps on top of goosebumps. not to mention this song kicked the shit out of anything being released at the time. when this hit, it was so intense seeing this video words cant describe.
it wasnt out of nowhere. it was rumored to exist for years. a version they played live leaked to the internet years before it was released and then the official song leaked months before the actual release ..they even played it on the radio. courtney and nrivana sent letters to radio stations threatening legal action so they stopped. i avoided hearing it tho till the cd dropped in late 2002 and still waited till someone gave me the cd at xmas ...and it was amazing.
@@DannyCosmos No, no you're right. It didn't come out of nowhere. I knew about the radio play leading up to it (never heard it, like yoruself) and I heard it on bootlegs many years before they released the studio version.... i just had no idea the quality it was recorded in. I thought it was going to be a released like other b-sides with mediocre production... Y'know? I had no clue it was going to sound this f'n good. Know what I mean? Cheers.
cobain died. everyone mourned. years after, i was born. i grew up, became a fan, and still shed tears when i come to the conclusion that a bright, pure, and loving soul like this was lost so fast. my throat hurts whenever i reminisce this thought. my tears flow whenever i reminisce this thought. im happy cobain found his peace, and final rest. From all the people who listen to you, We Love you, Mr. Cobain.
The shot of Kurt hitting the distortion pedal at 0:37 right as the distortion kicks in is perfection
i never noticed that woah
That video was taken during the concert where he played Love Buzz, jumped into the crowd and crowd surfed, and ended up slamming his guitar into the face of a bouncer who tried to help him back onstage as he thought he was being aggressive. It sparked a big fight and row which is mentioned in the Heavier than Heaven biography.

It's 100% intentional I think, he's singing with a lazy vocal fry here which allows him to slip into his head voice with ease (cracks you're hearing).
He did this a lot but it's most prominent in this song I believe.
Also, whoever did the video editing is a genius.

+beviseduardo I would like to be able, to be legitimate to assert I DO understand their message. I think so, really; I mean I feel so, deeply, but only Kurt could tell... I don't want to be too presomptuous when I see the exent of his art (literally LIVING it in every aspects), and the depth of his art: that's why even if I sincerely feel I am "on that tune" (if I can say it that way) I still don't dare to affirm "oh yeah, I perfectly get what they meant". I think Kurt would be the only person who could tell.
Anyway, all I can say is that nothing is the same since I started listening to Nirvana. I mean, I finally treat myself, give myself the right to see things on a different level, to BE on a different level. And it's so f...... good. I'm so f...... "me" when their music fills my head!
A relief...

because kurt is describing that part of his life. Literally, my gut instinct tells me he did not kill himself, courtney, and many others used kurt for everything they could get. Keep in mind that kurt was only with courtney just under 2 years, so she did well. kurt just wanted out of everything and away from courtney she knew this and put a plan into action. True, but without incesticide that would still leave 4 full albums
I always go into this song thinking I'm finally mentally prepared for it. However, this song never fails to make me fall into a very reflective sadness when Kurt starts singing. The fact they even released this back in 2002 feels like a bittersweet moment; it feels like its Kurt's farewell to us all. Thirty years gone, Rest In Peace Kurt.
I cry every time I hear this song. Knowing this was his last song before we lost him. He was one of a kind and put a smile on a lot of people’s faces. I often come back to this music video and just watch it over and over- all of the clips… the music and the videos, the pictures it’s like a movie, but we all know how it ends, it’s like a summary of Nirvana and their tragic yet amazing 5-6 year existence, they were too young for fame, all of them in their mid 20s, it’s horrible how they were shoved into all of this chaos and fame… R.I.P Kurt Cobain… the world misses you
I don't care what anyone says this is the saddest Nirvana song ever in my opinion.
Years after Kurt died and this song came out on radios people burst into tears and vibed while doing so. It felt like the band was back after his death, it felt like Kurts soul came back to make one last song. all the memories fans had with him just sinked into them just like what's happening in this video, all the clips forming together of past memories. It felt like closure of his death. For me the song is basically his legacy song his ending of a chapter/ book.
Its crazy hes 56 years old if he was still alive. I wonder what wouldve happened if he lived. The last words he had said when he was singing was "pain"

I grew up in the Seattle area. I was 17 when Kurt died in 1994. I went to one of his last concerts in Seattle in Jan 1994 and was at his memorial service at Seattle Center in April 1994. He was very influential on me as a teenager and I was devastated when he passed. What an amazing legacy he has left. Rest in peace Kurt.
Kinda same here. But I’m Iowa, crazy how much he impacted people he didn’t even know and still does just as potently.
I was born and raised in Grays Harbor, Washington. Aberdeen is where Kurt and Krist are from. Krist was from Aberdeen as well as Kurt but Kurt bounced around in his school years. He attended Montesano High 10 miles east of Aberdeen where he met Buzz Osborne from the Melvins. Buzz set up Kurt and Krist with Dave years later. The rest is history. I was lucky to see how his hometown reacted to his success.
I wish he made a few more albums. He was a great songwriter, everything he wrote was good

God damn, imagine if we got an entire album of songs like this. Nirvana's next album would've no doubt been considered their best.
I agree!! It would have been great
Agreed. But this is maybe one of the last grunge songs they would have released.
He thought a happy life would make the pain go away but 'things have never been so swell'. Things were literally never better. The other songs would be less focused on pain probably.
Kurt at one point said that he admired R.E.M and said at least one future album would be inspired by them. Check out Do Re Mi for what that could have looked like.
Gabriel Bennett nah Nevermind was too successful. Nothing nirvana could have put out would have done more than Nevermind.
@@Aromatic-ring Success is no where NEAR equivalent to quality. DJ Khaled is incredibly successful, but his music is absolute fucking garbage. The Velvet Underground struggled to sell any of their albums, yet they were one of the best bands of their era. In utero sold less copies than Nevermind, but in my opinion, it was much better, though that is subjective.
Dude they would have gotten progressively better and better all they did was practice and play that's what made them so tight, they were still very young and developing their talents , they were already damn near at perfection Level
This song is raw, haunting, and so high octane. I love how the chorus is just splitting feedback and drums with screaming vocals. Kurt knew how to write a song better than most writers of these days. Sorely missed by all. RIP KURT
Errmmmm, Muse would like a word
Anyone knows how to write a song better than most these days 😂😂😂. RIP Kurt.
@@loxrocks1985 muse? really? lol whatever floats your boat
@@lostvagabond365 Yup. Muse. Best band in the world. Check Lollapalooza when they covered Lithium. Play Nirvana better than Nirvana play Nirvana.
Technically accurate 🤣🤘🏻
Have a day, keyboard warrior!
@@loxrocks1985 You missed something there... It's not about covering Nirvanas songs, it's about writing them.
The song is legendary and heartbreaking at the same time, in the lyrics we feel the tortured soul of Kurt and in the instrumental we feel the pain of his death and the end of the group, so many memories evoke this song for me it is one of my favorites from Nirvana
Rest in peace legend, we will never forget you
Such a hard song for being the last one, man Kurt will be missed.
"i have never failed to fail" probably one of the most raw lyrics ever written, RIP
it's actually "I have never failed to feel", just sayin no hate lol
IdrisCat I’m still gonna pretend it’s fail lol
Ethanos 69 I’ll pretend it’s fail too 😂 🤘🏼
I thought it was “failed to phil.”
@@bmla88 nice 😂😂
Saddest parts (for me):
3:12 Kurt's voice stops.
3:29 Kurt's guitar stops.
3:34 Kurt fades...
Happy late birthday to Kurt Cobain 😔.

You know, it's better to burn out than fade away

GD Cosmical wait the instrument at 3:14 was a guitar?
1:39 Nothing ever bothers her. She just wants to love herself.
For me it’s when his voice is like cracking in the third verse 1:32 - 1:40.
The second time Kurt screams things have never been so swell I have never failed to feel!! PAIN...incredible
Happy birthday Kurt ❤
"Nothing really bothers her, she just wants to *Love* herself."
Told me everything I needed to know...
She just wants peace. She is an introvert who likes to spend time alone relaxing
Proceeded by "Let's talk about someone else".
Wow that's exactly what happened she was doing her self and leaving him out or doing someone else that why he killed his self over that bitch
Hola
Todas as mulheres são assim, meu amigo.
This song proves that If he had lived, he would've just kept evolving as a musician. RIP Kurt a part of music died along with you
He was just getting started. He died in his prime. He was just turning to the acoustic side of rock. And maybe after that he could've kept evolving. I think Kurt was a musical genius who mastered the art of music and was just about to show everyone that he mastered it. Rip Kurt. He wouldve been 54 right now.
100 Percent true
@@dx3thefutureking342 A perfect example of Kurt's genius is 'Radio Freindly Unit Shifter' the guitar pieces for that song is pure genius.

Listen to "do re mi" to get an idea of where he was going sound wise it was very interesting.
A surprise, posthumous release. And one of my favorite Nirvana songs.
This song coming out of nowhere was big as a Nirvana fan. But this music video made it epic. It's just a perfect visualization for the last official Nirvana release.
The way Nirvana still inspires young people to this day is unbelievable. It shows how truly legendary they were. Rest in peace Kurt Cobain. We all miss you❤
I was kinda hoping the generations after me wouldn't feel that powerless.

What does this comment mean 🤔
@@jeremyguitar9871 it means that nirvana was so legendary that they are inspiring new rock bands with their music
Or they just wear the T-shirts because it’s “cool” and have no idea who Nirvana, or Kurt really were. See comment above. I really wish they would get into the music. It was special and could not, and will not be duplicated. The ones who know, know. The ones who don’t are truly missing out.
i love the fact that in the comments under nirvana's songs are basically only nice people
Adam Kováč and psychologists.
MightyZx yup
right omg
Not on the inside...
It's whatever you think... not me tho
One of the best songs ever!!!!
This is by far the saddest music video.
It shows all the great things Nirvana did, all their experiences, their moments, then once the song ends, that's it. Nirvana is and forever will be in the past. Kurt will and forever will be dead since 1994. That's it. It's permanent and you can't reverse it.
It's almost like a farewell from the band.
Rest in peace, Kurt. Rest in peace.
And grunge pretty much died with them. Talents like Nirvana and Pearl Jam made grunge big, a few years later talentless jerks like Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd made it suck.
@@torstenscholz6243 yes
Very well said ❣
@@torstenscholz6243 Don't forget about Alice in Chains. I prefer them to Nirvana. What happened to Layne and Kurt was horrible. I wonder if Layne was around to hear this?
@@QuantumJG90 I think that Layne was a better singer. Kurt was a songwriting, guitar-playing genius though. As far as talented, young artists go, they were both sitting at the top of a mountain. they should probably have a group of drug counselors waiting to welcome all successful artists up there. These people have a value -even now, long after passing- that can't be measured
The fact that people are still commenting and this video was posted 11 years ago shows how loved Kurt is
Facts
True
I understand what you are saying, but dont forget Chris and Dave, without them, this music wouldnt have been so populair as it is rn
@@luuk5120 true. Take no credit away from Chris and Dave they're just as good as Kurt. Nirvana was a team so they all played a part in how good nirvana was
Look at every other youtube video from 11 years ago lol
the last song they ever recorded. Can't believe it's been 30 years
you can feel his anguish, his pain, his annihilation. Love you Kurt, you’ll always be missed so much
To me Kurt was a tortured mind and a tortured body but a beatiful soul...
I agree with you
yeh.... Alot of us are like that....
Rodolfo Ramírez I agree too

Yep
me, right here. haven't seen this video in awhile

Man this sounds so good..
This is I think one of their last recorded songs, imagine just how many more amazing stuff would we hear now if Kurt wanted to live.
Nikola Maticki Yes, it is actually the very last song recorded by Nirvana in the studio, and was taped a few months before Kurt died. It's always been my favourite Nirvana song, and to me it shows what might have been had he lived.
paulph12002 Right? This one is raw yet different from the previous works.
One of my favs too along with Pennyroyal tea.
paulph12002 January 1994 in Brazil. Dave didn't even have a copy of it until they released it on the black album in 2002.
If he wanted to live his music wouldn't be so sincere and emotional.
Nikola Maticki If they continued with this sound in their next album, it could've been the best work they produced. Truly is a shame. I don't see Nirvana as being quite as good as some people do, however I do enjoy their music quite a bit, and I feel like there was still a lot more potential left.
