I never get tired of hearing this
You can say that again
Hell yeah brother
Probably one of the best Nirvana tracks ever written
Me too, 22 in 35 years of existence.
A little too threatening...
that last part of kurt and dave humming is just beautiful honestly.
Beautiful comment my brotha
So true, man. Honest is the word.
Lol its horrible. Only bad thing about this song is Dave's backing vocals. Leave it to Grohl to fudge a song with anything other than drumming. Stay quiet back there Davey
@@davidporter671 kurt allowed it, you arent kurt.
it always gives me a case of the goosebumps.
The vocal harmony with the drop D riff is insanely addictive at the chorus.
My favorite part of the song. Very unique sounding for a relatively simple chord progression.
Yep absolutely agree, gives me a huge spike of euphoria almost
krist's note change under it is the sonic magic behind this
One of the best on this album. He left us a brilliant catalog.
Indeed. Just wish he'd have hung around a bit longer, but alas.
Indeed ❤️
İndeed. Nirvana may be the best band ever. With only 3 albums ( 4 if you count incesticide ) they changed the music forever. Kurt Cobain was a genius, a troubled one. And i love him so much.
@@urazoktay7940 I count hormoaning as an album

Very underrated song, a personal favorite of mine.
I agree, a beautiful delicate and aggressive music at the same time
Agree.
One of mine as well.
Drop D Tuning is great!
My favorite too
Nothing here is underrated due to it being a diamond fucking album you silly boy
happy 30 years of Nevermind..
i swear, 30 years again i still listening this song
Indo pulang aja heh wkwkw
He'd almost had enough at nevermind. Subscribe Minaye number 1 music critic today yay 😁
Probably my favorite from Nevermind. The song has such a "finality" to it, hard to describe. It's like being happy about a sad ending or something you can't change.
To me its about hedonism and searching for an escape and finding freedom, yet despite everything you find yourself back where you began rambling shit that doesn't make sense and sitting back with your problems instead of sacrificing anything.
Such a fun song to play on guitar, one of my favorites
Drop D sounds nice on every Nirvana songs ❤
lyrics:
I'll start this off
Without any words
I got so high
I scratched 'till I bled
I love myself
Better than you
I know it's wrong
So what should I do?
The finest day
That I've ever had
Was when I learned
To cry on command
I love myself
Better than you
I know it's wrong
So what should I do?
I'm on a plain
I can't complain
I'm on a plain
My mother died
Every night
It's safe to say
Quote me on that
I love myself
Better than you
I know it's wrong
So what should I do?
The black sheep got
Blackmailed again
Forgot to put
On the zip code
I love myself
Better than you
I know it's wrong
So what should I do?
I'm on a plain
I can't complain
I'm on a plain
Somewhere I have heard this before
In a dream my memory has stored
As a defense I'm neutered and spayed
What the hell am I trying to say?
It is now time
To make it unclear
To write off lines
That don't make sense
I love myself
Better than you
I know it's wrong
So what should I do?
And one more special
Message to go
And then I'm done
And I can go home
I love myself
Better than you
I know it's wrong
So what should I do?
I'm on a plain
I can't complain
I'm on a plain
I can't complain
I'm on a plain
I can't complain
I'm on a plain
I can't complain
I'm on a plain
Small lyric correction: It's safe to say, DON'T quote me on that.
“What the hell am I trying to say?” Greatest lyric of all time
But it's his MOTHER man!!!

This is Nirvana's best song. The lyrics are excellent. And the music is a perfect blend of grunge and pop.
It’s criminal how underrated this song is
Nevermind is a masterpiece! Every track is 10/10 😀😃😆
Yes it is, Long live Nirvana
yep🔥🔥
@@emmanuelemmanuel8821 LONG LIVE NIRVANA
Even Endless, Nameless lol
some of them i`d give a solid 11...
The most underrated nirvana song. So sick they did an unplugged version too
A lot of people complain about Nevermind sounding too sleek but in my opinion, this track in particular really benefits from it. It sounds so floaty and ethereal for lack of a better word. Krist's bassline specifically sounds so majestic not only because of *what* he's play but how it sounds sitting in the mix
I agree and go even further. I don't care if it's "sleek" or not, Nevermind's production (and mixing) is perfect the way it is, imo.
And that's also why it's such a great album!
I'm aware that there are many people who think that about the production of the album (some even about the music). Especially since Kurt Cobain himself is known to have made comments about it, some time after the album was released. Many fans take their opinion as their own and prefer In Utero or even Bleach, just because of it.
I understand why the word "elegant", or even "polished" or "mainstream production", whatever people say about the album.
I understood when Kurt said it.
There are undoubtedly elements in Nevermind's production that at the time were more used in more mainstream or pop music. Like for example those vocal and instrumental overdubs, backing vocals.
But those "mainstream" elements never overshadow the elements of the underground attitude and punk rock energy of the songs, the music, the band performce on the album, imo.
And to be honest, even Kurt loved the album when they did. Krist, Dave and even Butch Vig confirm this. In fact, everyone loved it. I bet he felt and knew that they had just recorded something really good!
It wasn't until some time later that he started complaining about the album's production. But I always thought that had more to do with the success of Nevermind and the amount of people it attracted, many of whom they supposedly didn't identify, criticized and despised it, than with the production of the album itself. A way to alienate their "unwanted new fans". That's also In Utero sound, it's so dry, rough and flat, I think.
I don't care which Nirvana album people like the most. Everyone is free to choose. And I'm not going to say I prefer Nevermind to their other records either. What I will say is this, after over 30 years of listening to Nevermind, it still sounds like something fresh, new, interesting, dynamic, invigorating, vibrant and explosive, like it was made yesterday! It definitely still smells like teen spirit (pun intented).
Each song has its strong unique identity, but It's like each song has its own identity as far as production is concerned too, like that "floaty and ethereal" thing you mentioned.
I love Bleach and In Utero (and everything they've done, btw), but those albums sound a little flat and/or even a little boring after a while, as far as production/sound goes. Especially In Utero I think. Is more homogeneous than Nevermind.
The funny thing is that Kurt Cobain also complained about this after a while, about the In utero production.
Anyway, On a Plain is a great song and Nevermind is an amazing album.
Sorry for the long comment.
If there's one thing I will feel absolutely fantastic doing away with one thing from the 80s and 90s is the elitist bullshit in the rock/metal community that festered like leprosy. They do nothing but complain. It was annoying as hell back then and still annoying now.
@@johngeiger3770I couldn't agree more! Too many turned into comic book guy from the Simpsons
That voice of this man, good god thats what set them apart was also Soo much that voice. 'With someone who had such good pitch and tone, could then go right into screaming like he was boiling nails' -Dave Grohl
Possibly one of my favorite songs ever.
always the underrated songs that are so good.
Always heard this as a major standout on the album. The way the verse moves sporadically through two different movements (the call back of "love myself better than you") is something you don't often hear in pop music. I think it's the structure of this song that makes it so unique.
Very well said man
Ultimate Gen X baby here, 16 years old in a punk garage band when this album exploded on the scene and changed EVERYTHING- and this is seriously my all time favorite Nirvana song - ❤!! I had a baby at 18 and he was a rockin dude from the start, moshing in his little car seat to playing every instrument he picked up, he loved nirvana best. Like Kurt, died way too young and is dearly missed. Nick I love you and miss you every day sweetheart I dedicate this song to all the good times and how amazing you are- I hope we reconnect one day, until then 💔
Gen X here as well and proud of it. I was a teenager in the 90s and all of the anger & frustration felt in the music at that time was the voice of our generation. I am so sorry for the loss of your son. I know no words of mine could ever ease the pain of your bereavement. Just remember you're not alone. Generation X loves you and will always have your back.
@@Sanguine_Addiction that means the world - truly feel like we are forgotten or made fun of- when our politics and creativity in movies and music- and especially our camaraderie, which you proved. Much love and respect ❤️🤘🏼

@@DavidaVeddar I saw that video not too long ago. So satire but true. Gen X has always been the "forgotten" generation. But that's fine with us. The world has been burning long before we were born. We just say "we don't need no water...let the motherfucker burn".
I have plenty of Gen X shirts. Some ruffle a few feathers but oh well. Grow thick skin and deal with it lol.
When Nirvana posts, I can't complain!
When I saw the notif first I was like . WTF?! And i think about what if kurt didn t die and nirvana still existed
That vocal harmonies 😍
The resulting sound of these guitar-bass-drums is the 90's sound that still run in my veins.
the dudes decided to re-upload all the hits of nirvana with a baby to
show his khm to the whole world again! thanks, I think Kurt would

Nirvana was my high school years. Great memories
Arizona my first concert Nirvana at Veterans Memorial Coliseum❤ This song is too good and I love it. It’s perfect.
This song literally popped into my head today. I haven't heard it in over 20 years. Funny the way sh!t sticks with us.
Songwriting at its finest. I love this and "Lounge Act" so much, they sound like the Grunge Beatles ... Kurt's songwriting was absolutely incredible!
My favorite Nirvana song.! Very underatted!.
When younger fans who are just discovering Nirvana and ask why were they so good this song is the one I point out instead of the usual popular choices. For me it showed just how good the band were at mixing a perfect pop song with Punk Rock. Then send them on to Territorial Pissings for the sheer fury.
For me it is a liberating song. One of my favorite Nirvana songs.
I love every song on Nevermind but this is definitely one of my favourites.
One of the best obscure songs by them. Great riff.
any Nirvana song is an instant hit!
Literally none of the tracks on Nevermind miss. Such a Legendary album

So many deep lyrics revealing what it was like for Kurt's addiction
You met him?
He wrote the lyrics 5 minutes before it was recorded. I highly doubt it was about his addiction.
@@Kirito-ln3fd exactly
Idk id say a majority of nirvana lyrics (not all) are just blonde guy rambling nonsense and allowing hipsters to "look deeper into it" Kurt was a fucking genius for making people believe he was a genius.

Most happiest nirvana song
Randomly thought of this song and listened to it today, it just pops into my head from time to time...in a dream my memory has stored...
My favourite from Nevermind album
In my opinion, Nirvanas best song
frances farmer too
True
one of the best grunge songs ever recorded
This hit hard this morning on the car radio.
My favorite nirvana song.
I can't stop listening to this.
Not enough people talk about this song on the album man.. its so good! I gotta say the remastered bottom end is not muddy enough its almost too clean but like hearing the vocals in a new light is amazing
For sure! Along with Lounge Act and Drain You, it’s in my top 3.
Agree
I completely agree. Kurt’s biggest complaint about nevermind was it was too “slick”. The 30th anniversary remaster sounds at least to me even more slick than the original album which is a shame. I wish Dave or Krist would have attempted a more raw feeling remix, otherwise just leave the original alone.
@@aviationlba747 literally what i was thinking
I only purchased in utero in high school and unplugged- this sounds way too bubble gum for nirvana tbh
He wrote these songs in his early 20's...this is insane. He was a creative genius.
Favourite song from the album.
I heard this song but never sat and listened to it. It’s one of the best no doubt.
My favorite all time Nirvana track.
Best Song hands down
I'll start this off without any words.....
If someone use this song in a great movie, I'm damn sure it'll become a billboard hit.
It’s always interesting to me that Dave’s voice was just close enough to Kurt’s that I thought it was just a second track of Kurt
It gives me goosebumps when he says “one more special message to go and man I’m done and I can go home” makes you think, that he knew he was gonna make one more album and pass away maybe “home” meant heaven
That part of the song makes me so sad because of what happened to him
I wish I tasted the drug you took to say that
i believe "the note" was actually him wanting to retire and live alone, not suidide
Guy could write lyrics in his sleep. "It's safe to say, you can't quote me on that." Love it.

this song has taken on an unfortunately relatable meaning.
realizing you're not really interested in your partner and just like the company and intimacy on your terms is a tough pill to swallow.
As someone who has “got so high, I scratched till I bled”. I can understand doing ANYTHING to survive a toxic, destructive relationship. Kurt could take dark subjects and make them beautiful… imho.

I prefer that version due to it's rawness
This one will always be my favorite version next to that live one in 93 when they were playin in Europe and Kurt had red hair but that unplugged version in New York is a whole nother animal and major love to the rhythm section of the meat puppets being there to help them get the sound that set🕊🤘
