OUTSIDERS Japan - Feature Length Film Drifting Documentary

- Опубликовано: 21 ноя 2013
- The OG cult Drift documentary from 2011.
"It's not about the drifting, it's about the people."
Driftworks' very own Phil Morrison & James Robinson go on a discovery tour of Japanese car culture, accompanied by filmmaker Al Clark, and guided by Matt 'Mitto' Steele with the goal to travel Japan and see where drifting originated, find out why it advances so far ahead and why the drivers will risk everything to do it.
What was meant to be a fun holiday ended up being so much more as we brush the surface of Japanese life in general, and just how different it is to the UK . They visited some of the more famous tracks and workshops, met several legendary drivers, and explored the differences between Western style and JDM style driving.

RIP Imai-San from Bee-R. Watching this again after many years still gives me chills. Thank you for the many years of inspiration and information. I will forever treasure our time together and parts I have collected. 🐝 R forever!

The cars, The music, The people..... The way of life. Just amazing, puts you in another mind set.
Japan , might be fun if you go like this with friends you know already but hey anywhere is with friends , otherwise the Japanese are the most unfriendly to foreigners out of any countries I've been and lived...they are unfriendly to eachother but I have had people run away at train stations in Japan when I asked for directions.
No one speaks Engrish ...it will take you 10 min to order a cheese burger at Makudonarudo if you dont speak some basic Japanese.
Japan is not as young people imagine it ...its actually completely the opposite ...very law abiding and proper and all they do is work ...stop dreaming !!!
Alex Tapovski I wasn't necessarily talking about Japan. I'm talking about drift community and the way this film is put together, it makes it kinda special.
godzioevo I agree bro , gotta love it !!!
that is what happens to everyone who go to live to another country and do not want to adapt to their culture, language or way or life.its not japan, its not america, its not russia or whatever, it is that person's fault for not trying at least to blend in.. btw awesome film, awesome night life, awesome cars, just amazing ^^ amazing !!
Mike Ramirez Hey go there on your own and you will see how it feels to be rejected as a gaijin , in the meantime dream on ...
The little drift RC cars are probably the coolest thing i've ever seen. Awesome movie.
Still enjoying this all these years later.
Why do I allways find these cool ass videos RIGHT before I have to go to bed........ Someoneeeee quicklyyyyy stoppp meeeee, holddd meee backkkkkk
Me too :)
Bane Trogdor Why do i always find them when I'm in college
Exactly, I was just about to go to bed.. and I find this.. Fucked my whole next day up. But Its worth it...
Because we are the RUclips generation
Fuk, same here as well.
best 1 hour and 29 min ever spended on youtube
It's very nice to come here every now and then to re-watch this piece of art 🔥🔥
This documentary is truly a spectacle, so many amazing cars and interesting people. I appreciate your guys' effort to show us this beautiful side of Japanese culture.
Thanks Jeremiah!
We think this movie is an inspiration to anyone who loves cars (and travelling) and we are almost certain that after anyone sees the whole thing, he/she will definitely want to go to Japan. We've watched it maybe 5 or 6 times already, still awesome every time. The quality of the video is top notch, the soundtrack is pefect, the story is awesome, the cars are ultra cool. Congratulations Driftworks!
This is why I love Japan. In Japan: "That car is awesome! Nice Build!" Bring to America: "Wow, what a ricer."
True my friend :( .
king nguyen not true
Problem with most American "tuner" cars is they look like crap with the Ebay parts falling off. Or so overboard with things that it looks like a clown car. A real purpose built car will earn respect. That's Americsn car culture. You earn respect it's not given for nothing.
Same in Britain. Everyones into FWD showroom spec cars here. Our car parks are tremendously boring sights.
@@ClimptonDiddlehopper Let's be real, if it's not a jacked up truck, 5.0, or LS, it's gonna be trash talked. American car culture is quarter drags/bud light/HP. It may be different in a few areas, but the majority of the south hates tuners/imports/ricers. Even though a Supra could eat through most of the 5.0's and LS's I've seen.
7 years passed, man... still as awesome!
It's 9 years since we filmed it 😎
I still rewatch videos like this every once and a while, might be a little drift addicted lol
By far the best thing I've seen in a while. Their culture is so beautiful.
Ok you just added a bunch of reasons why i NEED to go to japan before i die!!
it seems like a decent place to check out ....i think egypt n dubai might b sweet vacations too...
+40missedcallz Dubai is dangerous right now like, all of the middle east is right now.
+sj.rocky woosy....
+sj.rocky the game and loyd banks jus came from there ...they had lap dances and erything....
40missedcallz actually I would go there because its an epic city but at any moment ISIS could attack or suicide bomb so yeah mate.
I've seen this movie 3 times now. Every single time it leaves me breathless. Whatever it is they have in them that makes them do this, its wonderful. Watching 3 or 4 or 5 cars slide around a corner all in tandem with one another is one of the most beautiful things on this planet.
Great film guys. The whole Japanese culture of 'if you're doing something, do it to the best of your ability' needs to permeate western culture in a big way.
Can't if I have all these stupid smog laws where I live in California. Cant even really put a damn exhaust on your car without being harassed by the fuzz. Not to mention the fact they keep closing our tracks and shit.
King Charles That fuckin sucks
DeleriousZ many of the most successful people in the western world follow that mentality strictly
I agree if people took pride in what they do things might be different over here in the US
@@michaelgomez8945 sadly we have become soft. Our welfare state has turned people into fat, lazy slobs. It's pathetic.

The editing is awesome, most scenes were literally giving me chills. Incredible work Driftworks !
Absolutely stunning audio and visual experience
Seen this so many times now and it never gets old ! Hope you all return to Japan for another film !
+Mister Two Same here. I've watched it probably 20 times now and it never gets old. They did such an amazing job. I agree, I really hope they do another one.
Went to Japan for the first time in January and I fell in love with the landscape, and of course, the cars.
I remember watching this when it came out. I never thought I'd go. It's amazing what time does and the things you'll get to do.
I hope you all at Driftworks continue to make films that inspire us to see cars in a different way and go see new cultures.
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed the film, and your visit to Japan!
even after nearly 8 years, its still one of my favourite movies. Got the dvd/bluray when it first came out.
nothing beat this man. it got me into drifting and japanese culture. Legendary
Amazing movie in every detail guys!!! I may have watched it almost 20 times over the years. It just picks you up realy well👍
Thanks Andreas 👍
Man, i know i sound like a broken record coming back every few years, but i love this movie so damn much! if you guys did another trip and took some drone cameras and made another movie or even like a 5 - 10 part video series depicting the street life a decade later and how much it's changed it be amazing!!!
Can’t tell you how many times I have watched this now. Everything about it is epic, the music, cars and attitude. It’s pretty much nostalgic at this point
In japan they have these gangs everywhere but they do it for the fun of driving. They get pissed at cops alot but when they are not in their cars they respect cops like everyone else. These street racers do crazy things but never risk or threaten lives of others. They do crazy things but have respect for others
Yeah that’s just not true street racing will always in danger lives especially in Japan since it’s mostly done on small busy streets and busy roads
@@99mintaltezza2 how does that work when they drive 30 mins from the city to do it to avoid those things ?
imalittletoxic justalittle have you not seen the city street drifting video some of them don’t care at all where they do it
imalittletoxic justalittle but yeah you are right most of them do what you said
It's Documentaries like this that keep pushing me to pursue my automotive career. I absolutely love cars, and the scene that cars bring with. That's why I love being around the RIGHT kind of car guys (and gals), and that's because we don't do it for competition or bragging who's car is better, we do it because WE LOVE watching something that we built come to life and grow a personality of it's own, with us behind the wheel. Great movie, Driftworks. Thanks for making it.
The only documentary that I religiously watch more than an average movie.
i just love the japanese culture and how they dedicate themselves with everything they do with so much pride!
Thank you for making this video guys! I lived in Japan for 3 years, came back to the USA and fucking hate it. I want to go back so bad!
Makes me wanna move to Japan!
Everytime i come back to this documentary I pick up something new. Surely this is one of if not THE drifting documentary of all time?
Anders Haugen this and Heroes for the Weekend are great drifting documentaries
To this day this is hands down the best drift documentary of all time. This got me into drifting. I am forever greatful.
Thank you 🤘
Great work on the video guys!
Thumbs up if you're still re watching this again in 2020! And want them to make another movie!
🤘

the amount of times I've seen this documentory is unreal GREAT DOCUMENTERY LOVE IT !!!!!
OK, JAPAN I'M COMING.

Gaijin. You wont like it there if you dont speak japanese. Most xenophobic nation. But of you are a visitor you will be treated as costumer which is ok and nice. But moving there? Nothing but gaijin my friend.

I'm not the only one that was smiling throughout the entire movie, right? I've just now seen it in 2018, and I am planning a trip asap. Been watching your uploads actively, and I'm glad I got to see this. Just wow.
We need those types of shops here in the states.

+HelloImTom I'm definitely thinking about it. :) Thank you for the support.
+Alistair Clark yes please do this is great and my girlfriend watched it and loved it too great work :D
+Alistair Clark best drift doc/movie ever! Defo need a Outsiders part 2! But it needs to be Japan or nothing haha. Brilliant work dude! (GarageFuckHouse)
Kei to the city by Mighty Carmods is also a great one... very emotional and beautyful shots... i wouldn´t chose one above the other tbh :)

Even it's already 7 years this video is really amazing! I Learn a lot in this video and understand that it's not all about just drifting but it's also about the people! Amazing video!
I've been waiting to take some time out of my day and watch this. Some amazing footage. I absolutely adore this gem. Thanks for sharing this DW. Also, Bob Bradly and Matt Sanchez are the shit.

Gorgeous film. Thanks for sharing this amazing cultural experience with us fellow car enthusiasts!
I come back and rewatch this video/movie every few months.
By far one of the best documentaries I've watched about the car scene! Keep up the great work! 10/10 from me!!!!
Just finaly finished all of it. Anyone with the negative comments are not true car people IMHO. Even if you hate imports there is so much passion in the drivers and even the narrators you have to love it. And by the way yes please on the R35 wagon, does a family vehicle get any better and the speed shop with all the skylines? Like Clarkson says..i think I just had a crisis
That's an M35 Stagea with a R35 front clip.
jc18137 Thank you for the correction. Still sick
Ye, look at the older Stagea's. Nissan released one with an Rb26 and many people swap the R34 front clip. Good looking car.
God I love this documentary!!!
Cant believe this is the first time i've seen this. SO good guys, thank you.
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed! It's nearly 10 years old now. We should probably make another one.
This is by far the best car video from Japan I've seen. Been watching it 10 times in the past 5 days.
3rd time ive watched this, great documentary!!

I remember me and all the lads at uni watching this dvd when it came out….ten years later I’m a test driver and building my first build with a e36 m3 compact with a 328i turbo under the hood. Starting with my grandads e36 that he let me have so it’s gonna be a labour of love and it started here studying motorsport engineering at uni 10 years ago. This film is timeless and still underground which I find crazy
I don't even know how many times I've watched this. But every time it just gives me that feeling. The music, the style of editing. Brilliant!
Thanks!
Kids Heart Shop = heaven!
at 1:09:34 that's the 88's drift team !!!!with the kei cars xd omg
You watch mighty car mods too? :D

My wife asked me if I doubled my painkiller tonight.
Love this film. Haven't seen it in ages. That tune is the greatest. Blessings to all those involved in making it.

R35 wagon? WTF!? THAT'S AWESOME!
DUDE I SAW TOO! how crazy is it hahahahah omg
Its a stagea with a front end conversion :D Still sick though
oh yeah indeed! would have been good if they used a more sporty back though, like a new 3 series touring read :3
The s14 on the lift at 326 was fucking gorgeous.
So awesome meeting Mitto this summer in NJ at Club Loose. I'd watched this through likely a hundred times and it was a blast to see him and tell him how much this documentary impacted me. Also very happy he could experience our home course and see drifting that was dedicated to pure fun rather than competition.
Fantastic film/doc... The work is much appreciated.
To get paid to go to Japan and research drifting is a dream
Omg that was a great movie, thanks drift works you did a great job, awesome stuff. I'll probs buy it on DVD as well. Australia is a lot like the uk drift scene.
Watching this in 2020 and it's still one of the greatest - if not the greatest - drift documentaries ever
Cheers 👍
