You can make matchlock units fire earlier in ranked fire if you order them to shoot a unit outside of their range instead of waiting for them to shoot when ready.
@Tranhoang Long Tercos are an exception because of their high melee stats. But for all other gun units you don't want them to reach you for melee. So shooting early even if less accurate is better since you get 1 extra volley that makes up for it.

This is why you use portuguese tercos as your front line unit for the otoma. Put some archers behind them and sprinkle some Shotgun Cav in their and your set for life my guy

It has literally no weaknesses and can be barely countered. That's why CA used sword variant. Also you was referring to Spanish tercos, while we are dealing with Portuguese one. They were mostly used to guard ships and colonial trade points. Most of them weren't pikemen (because it's not the most suitable weapon for crewmen or city watch guard)

The tercos haven't even 3d portrait and animations. They using hit animations from Empire Total War. It is sad that the Otomo clan was clearly made in a hurry and little worked out
Still one of the best ones, but really I would love if CA gave Shogun 2 an ultimate update, they gave it a minor update in 2021 so the game is not totally abandoned

Well honestly Tercos should be a limited unit, RP speaking. Imagine if the Otomo were able to just recruit thousands of elite European infantry within a few years in real life. Oda Nobunaga would've gotten wrecked lol

There's a charm to this game that I can't explain

The tercos actually use recycled assets from FOTS.
A lot of audio in DLC is often asset flipped.

I heard they were 33% matchlock, 33% sword shield, 33% pike. Thats why they were called tercios(one third).

Firstly, you add the general then pick up units that you want. After that, right-click the general tab to remove him and there you are.

tercos have really good morale and melee stats so they can stand and fight after firing their volleys for much longer than a unit of line infantry
Different campaigns and different balance. Tercos in the vanilla campaign are supposed to be elite unit, no wonder they are so powerful

Not really. The Tercos could only fire 2 volleys without Fire by rank, it reduces their damage output.
