I have to agree with you. I have seen the Netflix series, and re-enactments are terrible, and very shallow at best. Their portrayal of Nobunaga is an insult, portraying him as an over-weighed bully dressed like a pauper.
Probably should indicate Japanese Warring States or Chinese Warring States since both have the same name. China's one is about 2000 years earlier than Japanese one.
The most important thing to note is that even in this chaos emperor was still worshiped. From 1185 to 1867, it was shoguns who ruled but at the same time it was emperors who reigned.
@@commissar6860 No , I meant that its probably more helpful to specify which Warring States. Cause there are two Warring States period. Like how there is a Chinese Three Kingdoms and a Korean one

Finally, a sengoku era series. This is honestly one of my favorite eras as it's an era where guns, bows, swords, spears, and cavalry can be found in the battlefield. Especially how Nobunaga used the Matchlock infantry, If you probably dropped him during the Napoleonic era, he probably wouldn't be that surprised except the size of the battles.
He also used christianity to make his troops more resilient to resist the myths and practices of the warrior monks of Ikko Ikki. He did many clever things and is only outmatched in wits by his vassal and heir Ieyasu.
To some extent you’re right. But you have to remember that guns were more affective in Japanese warfare than European warfare at that time because Japanese armor was less evolved.
@@epsilon3821 He did much more that tolerate them. And for those Legion vs Phalanx debaters, the pike formations were well and truly alive during the Sengoku Jidai while the Roman triplex acies formations were dumped by the Romans themselves.
Japanese history is fascinating. Also, this is another example of why it's a bad idea to celebrate too early on a battlefield. Win the war, then celebrate. Great video.
Well keep in mind that's how the Oda interpreted the Imagawa army's behavior after the battle, we generally believe they exaggerated heavily. The Imagawa still had numerous challenges ahead of them, many of which should have been more significant than the ramshackle Oda clan. Yoshimoto was a big stickler for showmanship, he was known to imitate Imperial court nobles and tbf Yoshimoto brought many positive changes to the Imagawa clan and the region as a whole. He believed maintaining traditions even for minor victories was paramount to maintain high moral and the prestige of their cause. Anyhow whether their celebrating and resting for the next big fight was really to blame for their downfall or not they were definitely caught off guard by the Oda. The big takeaway for me is never underestimate your enemy no matter how insignificant they may appear on paper.
Yep, I'm particularly intrigued by the Sengoku Jidai period and the history of Japan's three great unifiers: Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyashu.
The warrior monks were also one of the reason why the christians initially were welcomed. Buddist monks did politics and were a thorn in the side for the warlords. However where strong christian communities arose, life became difficult for the monks, and this played well with the daimyo (if I remember well more than 70 daimyos converted to christianism)
Oda also forcibly converted many Daimyos, their families, and much of his court to Christianity between 1550-60. He stated that those who did not convert, would be made peasants, stripped of all their lands and titles, and their families left to starve.
@@theuniverse5173 it was political not religious reasons why he did that, in order to rise to the top Oda would need to break all influence the monks would have in his court
Nobunaga did not believe in the existence of God. He called himself the Sixth Heavenly slaughterer. 😅 ironically, these same issues probably were present at that time, too, some accepted him as samurai, and others didn't 😅 A while back, i stumbled on an article by a japanese historian where he suggested the idea of that being one of the main reasons Odo Nobunaga kept Yazuka around 😀 . To cause chaos under his rivals and enemies ,there is always a reason why a Japanese ruler in those times kept certain people as vassals closely Odo Nobunaga was known to be a cruel and strange ruler at times he humiliated the people around him , had strange sexual demands from his vassals, and subordinates .
Damn you bringing out too much content! Still gotta finish the Italian wars, the fourth crusade, byzantine reconquista, early Muslim expansions, Alexander's conquests and now the great northern war and even the sengoku jidai. I can't keep up 😂

This is all super interesting, but with my very limited familiarity with the names of people and places mentioned, I found this video virtually incomprehensible. It's a quick succession of nouns that I can't place, and by the time I remember if that particular name is new to me or was already used earlier in the video, I've lost track of what's going on. This type of presentation format might be a great revision guide for someone who knows what's going on, but for a newb like me its hard to get anything out of it. Maybe slowing down a little or showing some iconography on screen to make it easier to remember which name refers to what would help? A family tree (with in laws) would also make it a bit clearer. Or maybe it's just me being a visual learner or simply an idiot?
Oh I feel for you. That's how I too used to feel about Japanese history before playing Shogun 2. The names sound like a mess at first and the clan colors like a bunch of made up geometric shapes. There is a BBC documentary about Tokugawa Ieyasu that may help somewhat getting you more accostumed with the setting. Other than that only getting help from someone that knowshow to explain it, like the clans and names and the basic feuds of clan x agaisnt clan y. This video would be like a language class that already expects you to know the basics of what is being talked about.
I'm glad it's not just me! I have my core historical interest (Classical era Mediterranean) that I am very familiar with. I've been pushing forwards and backwards in time as well as widening in space (I'm now getting into ancient Mesopotamia and dark Ages Byzantium). This has enough overlap with what I already know that it makes some sense. But medieval Japan is so different that I have no landmarks to grab onto. I like your analogy, will use that in the future!
Hope we can get the rest of the Sengoku Jidai now someday, especially its earlier days like the Onin War or the Battle between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin, the rise of the Mori and New Hojo clan etc among others 😁

Amazing video! looking forward to this series!

No one wanted to be Oda Nobunaga’s friend especially No bunnies/women nor let him be the Japanese Shogun because his boy Odor/Oda and mouth Odors/Oda were too strange. Do he always stay at his own Castle and bring Castaway!?.!,,,,!!
Excellent video, it's really enlightening to see the entire map like you've put together while covering major events. I've read about a lot of them individually but really nice to see how they tied together to leave Nobunaga with the setup advantage. 10/10 for always putting so much effort into the pronunciation of names and locations.
Pair this with the Sengoku Jidai series from the channel "The Shogunate" for peak perfection.
The shogunate really did a good job covering the Sengoku period series
Shogunate has 12 hrs of Sengoku history.....what a GEM!!!
Thank you so much for the support!!!!

Thanks for your analyses on the Sengoku period, one of my favorite eras of history.
i'm a japanese university student. It's very useful video to learn my own countriy's history in English! I really appreciate it!

Having learnt an incredible amount of the history of the Samurai and prominent figures. Even the details people often overlook and look to sources that don't tell the full story
It's always a pleasure to see something like this
Oda Nobunaga is my favourite samurai. I've heard a few different translations of Oda's "Tenka Fubu". My favourite that i've heard goes: "All the world by force of arms".
Easily the best channel on youtube. My history teacher I never had but dreamed of
Here comes the Mad Dog, the Demon King, the Man, the Legend! Oda Nobunaga!
The Onimusha.
The Dai Rokuten Maou
This made my day! Looking forward to the next episode already :)
If you're going to cover this era, a great topic to discuss would be the rivalry between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin.
One of the most interesting part of takeda's history is where he put tokugawa at his place
@Altaf Hussain but that one moment also teach him to never underestimated people.

Arigato gojaimasu for making another magnificent video on Nippon's Sengoku Jidai period.
Looking forward to this series! Thanks
Exciting to see the continuance of this series!
This is very new to me thanks for the video i never knew about this war thank u so much and its so interesting,
pls make more pls
The Oda must be fire types because they seem to have a lot of trouble fighting enemies who can effectively use water attacks against them.
I just can't get enough of this channel it's awesome!!👍
So excited for this Sengoku series. One of the most turbulent and fascinating times in history.
Omfg! Finally a new sengoku jidai series. Thank you sooooo much for this.
Napoleon then Nobunaga. Two of my favorite generals, love this channel

We need a shogun 3 with three kingdoms mechanics.
Also great Video, love the improvements of the graphics
Yes. We also need a new Rome total war with three kingdoms mechanics.
There is already one. It is called Nobugana’s ambition
you know that C.A will not be able to make a good historical total war
Wasn't the Three Kingdoms totally dumbed down and ventured into the RPG "special abilities"/arcade-y realm? I remember the shock when first comming to R2TW, from all the previous TW series (starting with the original Shogun: Total War in 2000), though luckily it had one great mod (DEI), who redeemed it for it.
From what I saw on some YT materials, it seems like CA progressed into the "arcadization" of the series into the TW:Warhammer kind, no?
@@Haamre pretty much, from example archers don't have a range bonus from terrain, and in warhammer they streamline a lot of stuff, gunners don't have a reloading animation and range is king in that game, infantry is not that important like in the older games
I think sengoku period is underrated due to there being so much unique stuff was of course war, merchants, and religions. There’s just so much going on and it’s awesome!
Never knew the story line of Nobunaga Concierto is a true story until this video. Great work!
0:52 Finding this video 2+ years later and right after the Assassin's Creed: Shadows "drama" is hilarious. It's like Yasuke was always generally considered a Samurai and it's only becoming a problem now, because of American Politics. It's not like this is the first game to feature Yasuke either. (Samurai Warriors 5.)
😅 ironically, these same issues probably were present at that time, too, some accepted him as samurai, and others didn't 😅
A while back, i stumbled on an article by a japanese historian where he suggested the idea of that being one of the main reasons Odo Nobunaga kept Yazuka around 😀 .
To cause chaos under his rivals and enemies ,there is always a reason why a Japanese ruler in those times kept certain people as vassals closely
Odo Nobunaga was known to be a cruel and strange ruler at times he humiliated the people around him , had strange sexual demands from his vassals, and subordinates .
Damn you bringing out too much content! Still gotta finish the Italian wars, the fourth crusade, byzantine reconquista, early Muslim expansions, Alexander's conquests and now the great northern war and even the sengoku jidai. I can't keep up 😂
Amazing work as usual.
Props to my friend Malay!
Brilliant! I could watch more of these. you did a cracking job with this, please carry on
We love these Japan videos keep them up 👍👍👍
Sengoku Jidai is one of the best topic in history. Love Japan from Pakistan
Glad to see one of my favorite time periods. Keep up the great work Kings and Generals!
I've been waiting for this!
A series on Oda Nobunaga!!!! YES!!!!!!
Nice. A series about the end of the Sengoku Jidai is wonderful
I was recently in Kyoto for a second time and have been somewhat obsessed with the sengoku period. Not to mention, the game Samurai Warriors 5. So this video is just what I needed!
Can't wait for the next episode!! 👍
Amazing series. I hope they continue through the whole sengoku period. Maybe even go over some of the other clans.
The battle that started the legend of Oda Nobunaga. Looking forward for more battles!! Especially the Battle of Nagashino 🔥🔥
I actually like that I fairly know some of these people just because I played Samurai Warriors way back then, so i get some familiarity on how the battles started, etc.
Both the Sponsored game and the video are using Artwork from Koei's Nobunaga's Ambition series, at 1:28 and 2:34 respectively. I dont know if the game got the rights to use it, but it would be nice if credits were given on the description to the artwork used in the video, the same way its already done with Shogun 2.
Even though I already know this part of Japanese history , it's still great to see you guys doing it.
Looking for this series. This is one of my favorite histories series all time. much of Clan conflict and Intervene from western like Weapons and religion make this more bloody times.
I was literally going to look up sengoku jidai stuff today and here is a timely video.
Hoping to see other Sengoku period battles covered like those during Takeda Shingen's campaigns (conquest of Shinano, 4th Kawanakajima, Mimasetoge, Mikatagahara) or during Shimazu clan's conquest of Kyushu like Okitanawate in 1584.
We look forward to this series!
You just keep dropping bangers.
VERY GOOD VIDEO been a fan of this era long time. i have several books about it
I like how the event is soo detailed.
Like the names of the peasants levys who are now memorialized in the history for one single battle
So exited for you to Cover more japanese History!
I remember learning of all of this through Samurai Warriors. Man that game was awesome.
Thank you very much for a video about Japan history☺️☺️☺️
Fantastic as usual! Thanks.
i hope maybe you make the video about the battle of kawanakajima. it’s one of important battle at the warring state period
Y e s! Why have we waited so long for THE Oda to have a documentary here? Thank you all regardless
i:ve been reading a textbook on the life of nobunaga, hideyoshi, and ieyasu. Absolutely love this era. And i lvoe it almost as much as i love shogun 2 lol. Great video! :D
2:02 Art style reminded me of the game KOEI's Nobunaga's Ambition 13. very similar art style.

I was just thinking I wanted more feudal Japan content from this channel.
Great stuff! Can’t wait for the episode(s) on Uesugi Kenshin.
Having played hours upon hours of the samurai warriors game series makes these videos all that much sweeter.
Noooo! I didn't want this to be over. 😤😭 This was bad ass, Devin. More please 🙏🏻. Very soon please. 🙏🏻
