I am soooo glad that this ship was saved!1 When it still had antiaircraft guns mounted, my dad and I would crank the handles and aim at planes flying by. I was like 10 years old and it was GREAT!!
For Naval historians, Retired and Active duty Sailors and Marines, and all who served (especially My Dad and Uncles)- this is your legacy, this is your tribute, this is your memorial. We thank you, and pray for the continued peace you fought for.
To all the men and women who worked so diligently for so many months to make the Texas watertight again and paint her hull...WELL DONE! I'm old but I hope I live long enough to visit the Texas one more time after all her restoration work is complete. There is still a lot of work to be done up top and inside, but the ol' girl looks great in her newly replaced torpedo blisters and new paint. Texas -- the state -- can take great pride in Texas -- the battleship.
Imagine the ghosts of hundreds of sailors and marines standing at attention along her rails as she was floated out of dry dock! Well done Texas, and thank you from all of us who served, regardless of branch, for preserving this magnificent piece of military history!🇺🇸👍
Wow! she looks Fantastic The Workers should all be well applauded. The ole girl not only is much more water tight she looks so very well in her new color Dressing. Outstanding!
A heart felt thanks to all the men who served aboard the Texas and to all the men and women who have worked to preserve her through the years. God Bless 🙏🏾 America.
Many family, and friends of, were veterans of WW2. Jim has gone on now, but was officer on the TN on 12/7/41. I can't help but think of him and our fishing trips as a kid, when I see this proud ship. My contribution was money well spent.
She'll look so good once they have her new deck and finish painting her topside. I imagine all the work on her interior will take up most of the remaining months of repair time, repainting her and repairing her exhibit spaces. I hope to be able to volunteer.
I am 2 months shy of 64. I, too, was 8 years old when my family boarded the U.S.S.Texas to tour her. Even then, she was showing neglect and vandalism. I was furious at the disrespect that someone had taken a dump in the engine room. I hope they take better care of her now. She was my inspiration to enlist in the Navy. I never got to serve aboard a Battleship, but I never have forgotten that day that I stood amazed and awestruck at the power and majesty she projected.
@GVBiggs524 too bad DNA evidence couldn't be used to locate the...deffecator and refer unto pooh that which is poohs. As in find his/her house, and let the cows into that yard, filling it with fresh poopooh!
I've seen her many times since I was a little kid ages ago. Hope to get down there one more time when she's finished. This are looking good, can't wait!
This was breathtaking footage. Thanks for sharing this. Get a top-flight agency licencing deal to rep this footage. I hope everything is encoded. Best of luck! This is GOLD
Thanks for the new footage! Great shots of the 5 inch 51 cal. guns in their castles. Just learned from President of Battleship Texas Foundation, Tony Gregory, about the main decking to be replaced with original pine. Speaks volumes to the dedication and effort of many in preserving this one-of-a-kind tribute to naval history.
She looks really good! She was looking positively decrepit before. The drydocking crew should be proud as she now looks like a ship worthy of her name.
Thank you. I am hopeful that you can eventually do a close up flight on the spaces above where the public is usually allowed. I think a 360 degree flight around the crow's nest(?) @ (1:31) where we could finally see inside would be amazing. Have been looking for information about them for over 50 years.
I been aboard the USS Alabama in Mobile. She is in a concrete dam sitting on a concrete dock. They had to dredge a Chanel to get her into the berth. She will never move again.
This needs to go down there with the other ship (destoyer?) and submarine in Galveston!! Tri-fecta of interest down there. I loved that setup-go from one right over to the other.
Seen her many times, as I sailed for many years to and from Houston. Beautiful restored. One question, are they going to restore the wooden decks as well? Believe that, at least to my personal view, would make the vessel op and top.
My question is, Why are there still some rust stains along the sides above the hull like insufficient paint was applied? Will you have the superstructure, main guns painted, and main decking replaced?
I asked the same question in an earlier post and heard back from an informed source. I was told it was superficial and not a sign of a bigger problem. There is much more work to do, but she sure looks good!
Rust is a fact of life in steel ships in a salt air environment, this rust is probably from still unprotected areas of her deck and superstructure. It is very annoying to "scrub rust," prepare and repaint a structure only to come back a week later and find more.
Wondering about the dark color. Was that the wartime color for the ship. All the ships I've seen are painted a much lighter gray including my ship USS Simon Lake AS-33. My ship also made its final trip to Texas to be scrapped.
"Unopposed under crimson skies, immortalized over time their legend shall rise. And their foes can't believe their eyes, believe their size and fall. And the Dreadnoughts dread nothing at all."
There's only so much money for the restoration. It's best spent where it can be seen and generate tourism income. The Battleship Foundation and Drachinifel pointed out, it would be incredibly expensive, due to all the parts being stuck for more than 50 years.
This question has been asked and answered a hundred times on the BTF page. It was the last rudder position command given by the Navy when she was put into position at SanJac, and thus that's how her rudder will remain. And not sure what difference fixing the rudder would make now.
glad to see this done! Where did the 39 million dollars to do this job come from? next "save" should be the Olympia before it sinks at its dock in Philly
The question is why did they refloat her without celebration? They should've made more of an event out of this. The BS Texas foundation needs some serious PR help. Fortunately someone had your back and at least you got some of it on video. Thanks.
Probably the liability of having that many people in an active shipyard, i agree though. Seems like there’s been a lot of dropped balls in terms of marketing and advertizing. Hope this documentary they’ve been actively filming and producing the last year or so is a smash hit
I am soooo glad that this ship was saved!1 When it still had antiaircraft guns mounted, my dad and I would crank the handles and aim at planes flying by. I was like 10 years old and it was GREAT!!

She looks pretty wonderful to me. On the way out of San Jacinto, she looked really low in the water. Now she is riding high and proud! Come on, Texas!
112 years old, beautifully preserved!
Crazy right! Same age as Titanic😳. Doing much better too
Great views, great music. The fog helped give it an unearthly look.
still havent found the name of the song lol but agreed! views are awesome
Out of the mists of time...
So glad she is back in the water. After an early dry dock tour, it looked very challenging.
She is a real beauty. Another reason I love Texas.
USS Texas and Willie Nelson. About the only reasons I still love Texas.
Imagine the ghosts of hundreds of sailors and marines standing at attention along her rails as she was floated out of dry dock! Well done Texas, and thank you from all of us who served, regardless of branch, for preserving this magnificent piece of military history!🇺🇸👍
I could imagine how majestic she would look plying the waves, brings a tear to my eye. Salute!
Wow! she looks Fantastic The Workers should all be well applauded. The ole girl not only is much more water tight she looks so very well in her new color Dressing. Outstanding!
She already looks so great back in the water, I'm so excited to see the difference when all the work topside is done.
It is great to see her even keeled, in the water. I know after the rest of the work is complete, she will look brand new.
A heart felt thanks to all the men who served aboard the Texas and to all the men and women who have worked to preserve her through the years. God Bless 🙏🏾 America.
Man that hull sure looks nice!

Thank you for going through all of the trouble so we can share the experience!
Great work, and it's great to see her back in the water.
Good to see the old girl getting ship shape again.
USS Texas without the fog. Quite a sight!
A Big Thank You to All those who had anything to do with Fixing up this 112 Year Old Historic Ship😊 .
Thank You For Sharing This Memorable Event !
I am astounded. tThe last time I was on that ship was when I was only 8 years old. I am 57 years old!

That would be cool!
I've always had a soft spot for the battleships (especially BB62 USS New Jersey) and l was all excited watching this.
I really hope that they truly fixed all the leaks and if they find a missed one they fix'em alll
Amazing footage. Looking forward to more soon, please. Enjoyed the majestic music too. Well chosen, for a majestic ship.

Three cheers for the USS TEXAS.

Great footage! I've got to get out there and fly her myself!
I love how the fog makes her look so menacing.
Looking good Texas!
Hopefully they can get to the roof of the range finding station on the mast. The 5" guns look great!
Most of her guns are still ashore being refurbished and restored. This time is being put to good use.
The side profile view at 5:52 is amazing! Wow she looks good. 👍
Just amazing, just like the USS North Carolina. They are the only ones of there type left to see and touch.
Texas is much more unique. Literally the last of the most significant class of ship in history; the dreadnaught
Great footage of a beautiful old girl.
She looks beautiful uss Texas THE LEGEND
Wow! Looks great. My cat started dancing to the video music 😮
How good does the Texas look especially being back in the water ❤❤
Gorgeous ship and great video!

What a beautiful ship !!!!
Flipping BADASS!!!!
Great footage! What kind of drone ?
Still looks like she could kick ass with the best of them
ABSOLUTLLY GORGEOUS!!!!👍🏻🖖🏻😉
CARRY ON GREAT ONE!!!!
Let’s go TEXAS!
Seen her many times, as I sailed for many years to and from Houston. Beautiful restored. One question, are they going to restore the wooden decks as well? Believe that, at least to my personal view, would make the vessel op and top.
Yes they are redoing the wooden decks!
Once the shipwrights and painters finish her brightwork and touch up
She's gonna be beautiful once again
I got to go aboard her several years ago, then watch her go down the Houston ship channel. Happy to see her back on the water.
Great job and thanks!!!
I never really got the sense of it when she was basically sinking, but man, she is a BEAST
Awesome! Super schön
Are they still planning a dry berth for this ship. I hope so.
The only word that comes to mind is " MAGNIFICENT "

She still has additional deck and superstructure work yet. She will be there at the pier for another year I think.
Most of the rust on the hull is just rusty water stains from scuppers draining water from higher up
This was just the hull work. At Pier D, she'll get the deck and up work done next.
She's beautiful!!
Ang lakas prin...astig...
COME ON TEXAS.
She needs a Texas flag.
@@flightforensics4523 A big one at that.

What is the music used at the 1:14 mark?
Another good one
I wonder if they’ll fix the bilge keels. They were warped pretty badly from the dry docking
Very ghostly with the fog wow. Will they be installing its AA guns back ?
Yes
She looks good 😊
Glad to seen not one bilge pump pumping water out of her, though the new rust stain in the middle of her is a little disappointin.
Thank you for the video! A great Gray Lady is afloat once again! Hooyah!
"Unopposed under crimson skies, immortalized over time their legend shall rise.
And their foes can't believe their eyes, believe their size and fall.

They sure knew how to make em back in the day !!!!😅
Thank you!
Any updates ?……..shouldn’t the deck replacement be happening soon ?
Hopefully they’ll be using good ‘ol east Texas pine .
Did any Houston news channels cover this?
Pretty much all the majors in Houston ran stories, live feed, interviews, etc. when the re-float took place.
Excited to see USS Texaa afloat, just wondering why rudder was not repaired as part of restoration given $$$ spent so far to make her complete.
There's only so much money for the restoration. It's best spent where it can be seen and generate tourism income. The Battleship Foundation and Drachinifel pointed out, it would be incredibly expensive, due to all the parts being stuck for more than 50 years.

Ours ❤
Do the engines work?
No. And never will again.
I was wrong on some previous comments she is shaping up nicely
Some Van Halen stripes would look good on the bow.
Why did they remove the name from the stern?
They didn't, but they did repaint it to the same colour as the hull (check out 0:30).
Hello, would you please list the titles of your musical choices. Thank you.
First one was ES_Fight Club - Cushy on epidemic sounds
@@ThirdCoastDrone Thank you.
My God, she's beautiful!
Did you use a drone?
US Navy gull, trained to take movies or steal French fries. Pick one.
Cherish the last Dread naught
Another 60 years! Last of the United States Navy 🇺🇸 Dreadnought of warships. USS Texas BB 35! Bravo Zulu museum team. 👏
It would be nice if the SECNAV would sent A-B DDG to escort her home
Does Texas have power in her new temporary home?
USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!!
*I won't be alive to see it, but I wonder how she'll look 30 years from now?*
She looks like a destroyer compared to the monster cruise ships behind her?
Great footage, had to mute the noise though.
