    Awesome video!
    In case you didn't know, there are two types of KO2's. The three peak mountain snowflake or "3PMSF" version and the regular version. The 3PMSF ones should be proper snow tires but they wear out faster so they're less popular. I'm curious which version each of you had on your trucks.

    • @CascadiaOverlandCrew
      @CascadiaOverlandCrew  3 года назад

      Hi Kayla, thanks for the info! I actually had no idea that they made KO2s that aren't M+S rated, I was under the impression KO2s are simply "all-terrain" and must all be M+S. Mine have the 3-peak symbol on so I believe they would be the 3PMSF as you mentioned? However, I know my tires are "E" rated whereas Nick and another person I know with the same vehicle as us are running "C" rated KO2s, and their "C" rated ones seem to be performing better (even though nick has a heavy bumper), especially with more tread on them. Either way, I've heard from folks that really like their KO2s whereas many others (like myself) swear they're down-right dangerous in rain, snow, and ice. Just the other day the vehicle slipped in rain approaching a red light - that shouldn't happen. There just seems to be so many inconsistencies that I think I'd rather just get a different brand such as Wildpeaks or DuraTracs. For now, I will keep them on until it's time to change since we're fast approaching summer time and slippery conditions shouldn't be a problem. I'm also putting on new coils to increase the lift in a couple of weeks, so I will eventually want bigger wheels and tires anyways lol.

      Thanks Matt! Lots has been done to it since this video: bigger tires and wheels, roof basket, coastal offroad rear bumper w/ tire and jerry can holder. It's starting to meet our needs much better, I'm glad we spent some time trying it like it was and only adding things that we felt were truly necessary to make it better.

      Nice to see these shots as I’ve gone here quite a few times but not with the snow. If you want deeper snow head up the Mamquam FSR and go deep into elevation there.

    What suspension setup are you 4th gens running? I am importing a 4th gen hilux (4runner) from japan and will want to do a 2.5-3in suspension lift and toss some 33's on there. so many options!

    • @CascadiaOverlandCrew
      @CascadiaOverlandCrew  3 года назад

      Woah that sounds awesome!! Here are the suspension set ups:
      - The silver one without the front bumper now has bilstein 5100s with Old Man Emu (OME) 2886/2896 heavy duty coils. It’s a V8 so the front is OK with heavy duty coil, and the rear has a metal coastal offroad bumper. If you’re not getting any bumpers then perhaps 2885/2895 would be better. This results in aprx. 3 inch lift for me.
      - the silver one with the front bumper has dobinsons coils, if you Google it, it should show up for 4th gen 4runner.
      - the grey one has toytec coils, if you Google it, it’ll show up.
      It’s good because all 3 of us have a different suspension set up and we all love it! I know 2/3 have SPC upper control arms, not sure about the 3rd. I highly recommend SPC UCAs because they’re adjustable and work really well to prove that perfect camber/caster. Also did a diff drop (not necessary) and SPC cam bolts.

    • @CascadiaOverlandCrew

      Hi Max, Jordan's got Duratracs and Nick has KO2s, but they are a different load range than mine, which could also have an impact on their performance (C vs. E). I just don't like how inconsistent they are, and yes, even in the rain with less tread now they're pretty slippery. I'll keep them on for now though because it's nearly summer and they hold up well on rocks etc. but my next tires will likely either be the wildpeaks or duratracs. I'm also putting new coils, UCAs, etc. for a higher lift in a couple of weeks, so eventually I'll want new wheels and tires anyways.

  • @VictorFreakingLe
    @VictorFreakingLe 2 года назад

    What kind of tires were those that you had to put chains on?

    • @CascadiaOverlandCrew
      @CascadiaOverlandCrew  2 года назад +1

      BFG KO2. A bit of google shows how well they perform in slippery conditions after some wear - they were downright dangerous at one point in the rain. There’s 285/70/17 wrangler Duratracs on there now.

    Why didn't you just lower your tire pressure?

    • @CascadiaOverlandCrew
      @CascadiaOverlandCrew  3 года назад +2

      Hi David, in the first scene with all the vehicles, that was us stopped to air down - we ran at 12 PSI I believe. Anyways, now there's bigger tires on there and they're duratracs which perform significantly better in rain so far as compared to the KO2s (for me at least) - we will see how they do in the snow this winter, but the grey 4runner in this video has the same duratracs and they did quite well all last winter!

    • @AdmirerOfGreatThings
      @AdmirerOfGreatThings 3 года назад

      @@CascadiaOverlandCrew The Duratracs do fantastic in the snow. I'm on my second set of them, air down to 8-10 psi and just float away ;)

    It’s a cool mellow video but it’s very hard to listen To the super scripted narrating. It sounds like I’m in fifth grade and the students are taking turns sharing something they have written. . It’s too much information and not enough camaraderie.

      Hmm thanks for that feedback Mikhail. This was one of our earlier videos so perhaps the narration has improved a bit in Season 2.
