      A lot of predators see people as food. The difference is, we are on the polar bears predatory list. Like this means they view humans as food regardless of whether you provide willingly or not.

      When two bears fight they will roar. But if a bear wants to eat you. It is smart enough to only take a step when you step. This way it knows you will only hear your own footsteps while it sneaks up behind you.

    • @IpostedaCoDvideoonce
      @IpostedaCoDvideoonce 7 лет назад +64

      Without purpose. Feeding or not, it doesn't impact the bears behaviour.
      There is a ban on seeking contact with polar bears, that's all.
      Try to avoid contact, if the bear sees you in the open, shoot it or get eaten alive, they often start in the stomach / back area.

    3rd Man: "It happens several times. This that we feed polar bears. But this has to do with the ability to judge the polar bear by the same manner one judge people, wild animals or other situations. A polar bear sends signals, is it aggressive, is he hungry, does it want to do you harm and what you generally know about polar bears. That is does not have any natural enemies. So it doesnt generally know what it means to be scared other than the fear of other polar bears. Her, my wife also feeds the polar bear with cured meats and... later did I feed it later with, a younger polar bear I feed it with cod sandwich with mayo."
    Slightly background towards polar bear: "Ohh so good it was, so good it was. You enjoy Norwegian cod." inaudible similar (Polar bear lunges hes head towards the plate and grabs the bread in hes hands) "One more? One more... oufh"

      @@pufferg4335 It's not like the average Norwegian has any contact with polar bears. The only time 99% of Norwegians will ever see a polar bear is in a zoo as there are no polar bears in mainland Norway and therefore the average Norwegian is no less ignorant than anyone else about how to deal with them.
      Svalbard is a completely different world to the Norwegian mainland and the majority of Norwegians have probably never visited it.

      Yeah, the bear should’ve known better than to try to climb up the side of the boat, he could’ve gotten his claw caught in the cabling!...Probably why they waited 20 years to release it, the bears probably dead and gone, save it the embarrassment.

      +Soltan Ahmadli - That really just doesn't apply to polar bears. They basically have no innate fear of humans anyway, they already come romping towards humans the moment they see them (intending to eat them). This contrasts with most bears that avoid people (or at very least human settlements) and then become a danger once they learn to come to people for food. Since polar bears don't avoid humans in the first place you're not actually hurting anything by feeding them. Not helping anything...but not hurting anything either. If anything teaching them that if they don't eat the humans right away they might get other kinds of food might be of minor benefit.

    It was funny to see the bear chomping down on those salmon sandwiches - which looked VERY tasty! However, it was NOT funny to see how that bear got on that boat. At that point they will not differentiate between being fed by a human and/or making one it's next meal.

      Anytime humans feed bears, the bears become accustomed with equating people with food. It messes with the order of nature and makes it more likely that the bears will seek humans more often than not, and always expecting to be fed. This happened in Yellowstone park and generations of bears lost their instinct to hunt. Consequently a few generation of bears had to be fed everyday at a garbage dump until they weaned them from being fed. It wasn't an easy thing to do either. This is why in Yellowstone it is against the law to feed the bears. By the way see the comment below this one.
