Fun fact: Polar bears see people as food.
Very fun 😍
Delicious 😋
100% Fact, *0% Fun*
A lot of predators see people as food. The difference is, we are on the polar bears predatory list. Like this means they view humans as food regardless of whether you provide willingly or not.
Bears are deceptively savage. They look calm even when stalking you. They’re not screaming or roaring but will eat you nonetheless
They resemble humans in their cunning and deception when hunting…tho Im not referring to this humans lol which are not so brigth
When two bears fight they will roar. But if a bear wants to eat you. It is smart enough to only take a step when you step. This way it knows you will only hear your own footsteps while it sneaks up behind you.
It seems like they understand their ecosystem. We should stop that nonsense about them being savages. They know humans are not part of their diet. He knows better not to come over board.
Freaking idiots….. this puts the polar bear at risk and other humans at risk as this bear now associates humans with food! Feckin geniuses!!! Idiots!,
1:32 did I hear "perkele"?
Ok, it is absolutly crazy to do this. But how gently one of the bears took the food out of his hand - unbelievable!
Sparren Burger Good truthful eyes
That astonished me too, SB. I kept expecting the bear to skip the appetizer, pull the man overboard, and go straight to the main course.
He/she appeared to be a Juvenile, judging by the size. Very curious, a little more gentle, but very hungry.
Bluenose352
I don't think so. Look at 1:00 there she looks tall enough to be an adult one.
Not a teen but maybe a twen. 😉
Sparren Burger Yes. Even the Bear in the beginning had a bigger, adult skull size. You're right. The one that took the Salmon seemed a bit younger. Seemed smaller. I'm still getting used to the sizes of Male vs Female Polar Bears.
Bear : I'm sorry I'll go back to the side of the boat for more of that salmon sirr
yaa that was cute
Like a dog.
🤣🤣🤣
@@ScottAndrew like a big big big big dog.....

+ProgamerEU just to let you know you have to wear a gun in svalbard cause the danger of polar bears its a law and people have already been killed by polar bears
what an idiot feeding that bear. Probably get shot now as it think humans mens food. well done moron.
shes like wtf wheres the hospitality?
haha are you trying to teach us norwegians about polar bears?
But the bear was so sweety
This video really puts in perspective just how massive these bears are
And he is not even an adult
And how fast they are. Look how quickly he climbs at 1:32.
And this is a young juvenile bear no where near fully grown
Yes. Quite bigger then the brown bear
@@postiticeland8783 than, not then
Lets encourage the bears to find food on our boat! What could possibly go wrong?
to feed a bear is to kill a bear.
They must be crazy! That's extremely dangerous.
For noen idioter.! Dere setter andre folks liv i fare med denne oppførselen og det vet dere jævla sykopater!
!
They fed the wolves, now, we have a dogs.
The editing here makes it look like the bear fell in the water, heard them laughing, then said "Okay I'm done playing nice I'm coming up there rn."
Lmfao
😂😂😂😂😂
I was just thinking how easily this bear could jump on the boat, and then it did. They were lucky
Hi, this was filmed in 1988. At this time there were no regulations about feeding polarbears in Svalbard. Today there is another story.
Without purpose. Feeding or not, it doesn't impact the bears behaviour.
There is a ban on seeking contact with polar bears, that's all.
Try to avoid contact, if the bear sees you in the open, shoot it or get eaten alive, they often start in the stomach / back area.
It should be common sense. No matter what decade. You hand feed a wild animal, it'll expect more from that hand.
Heinrich Eggenfellner Yah but this fails common sense for their own safety.
Where’s Darwin when you need him?
Heinrich Eggenfellner
Then morons learned from their mistakes?
Why would a person need regulations to tell them hand feeding wild animals is a bad idea?
the bear was like he understood where he needs to stay to get the food and he went back to his first position
1:38 *Bears like* "look at me, look at me.... I am the captain now"
This made lol
😂🤣😆💀

My dad always said, "there's a fine line between being brave and being stupid".
Glad to see a youtube comment section full of actual sense. I was expecting all these "omg aww that feeding is cute, I now want a bear" comments
I'm not an expert on polar bears, but something seems wrong, and very dangerous, doing this.
Not ”something”... Everything!!!
@@soja9305 Yep.
So that's why you should leave it to the experts
They eat humans. We are an item on their menu.
They're all lucky to be alive.

LMFAO! I love how he smacks the bear in the face when it sticks its head in the window. How DARE you climb aboard my boat?! *Smack*
1:39 lol that confused look after he got hit
Probably the first time in his life he got slapped by a prey lol
the bear jumped on the boat looking for dessert now
It’s the polar bear’s version of a food truck. “I’ll have another helping, sir... and... I think I’ll help myself to it...okay, fine, I won’t.”
scary how fast it can move 1:29
He was trying to get in.
Unless they were armed,it would have been a SLAUGHTER.
STUPID HUMANS
Polar bears are numerous and increasing in numbers. It seems they have no problem getting enough food yet.Even humans if they get lucky.
That bear is fast, imagine if he stumbles onto a KFC
P T In this time and age he would need two jobs just to survive
"okay okay, I'll get off the ship and beg for food over here.. can I have pizza now?"
I have never seen a polar bear bitch slap, that was sort of amazing!

That's amazing. I thought the bear would kill them, but it looks all cute and cuddly.
i cant believe how the first thing the guy said was «its not dangerous its not dangerous»😆
Dude I know enough of animals to tell the Bear was pretending to play nice in the end to trick them to go out and give him food. Thats a predators inteligence right there
That man was shooing the polar bear like it was a bird.
The bear was doing a screen test for the leading role in an upcoming production of Oliver Twist. "Please sir. I want some more."
Alot of people commiting that these humans are teaching this bear they're a source of food. But these particular bears already see humans as prey. It's not the same as a grizzley bear.
@Jonathan Thomas Grizzlies *show* outwards aggression, polar bear don’t because they are not concerned by you. They will hunt you and eat you with total calm.
@Jonathan Thomas Um, because polar bear don’t live close to humans like other bears? This is common sense, dude. I’m really trying to not be insulting, but common.
@Jonathan Thomas They are one of the few species of animal that will actively hunt a human being as a source of food. Do you not understand that when you’re 700 to 900 pound carnivore and you live in the barren Arctic anything with meat is food for you? Grizzlies will simply not do that.
@Jonathan Thomas I said one of the only, not the only. Maybe changing only to few will make it more obvious. And thank you for admitting that polar bears do indeed actively hunt humans; therefore, being more dangerous than grizzlies if ever encountered.
You can tell by the polar bears body language that it was not aggressive nor did it try to attack anyone,it simply was just too hungry and go for easy meal....
Polar bears don't show any signs of aggression when hunting, why would they? If given the chance, the polar bear would have absolutely attacked the humans because as you said, it was too hungry and looking for an easy meal.
This is an apex predator. It’s accustomed to seeing living beings as either food or an adversary (ie; another polar bear). Just because it’s big and furry doesn’t mean it’s in any way “being nice.” It’s curious… about how you taste.
This one just happened to decide that this potential meal wasn’t worth the hassle. That’s all.
Breaks my heart to know how much they struggle to survive
They are actually thriving, stop believing all the lies.
Oh did you believe the skinny starving polar bear on a tiny piece of ice story?
@@progmetalJorge No, he's talking about those poor humans.

I nevertheless find, that it is a really really cute bear, especially considering that this his maybe first confrontation with humans. (So you have also a positive comment now)
I'm speechless...
He fed him that nasty Scandinavian mayo that comes from a tube. Animal cruelty. LOL
And I thought he was feeding him homemade crostini!
Oh come on. We polarbears like that stuff. Especially when it's hand fed to us. Sometimes we take the hand.
Oleander Pink you know i was almost going to defend the scandinavian tube mayo right now but then i stopped and thought about it, after living in canada since 89. danm that stuff is some gross thick shit. but i remember when i didnt know any better i put it on most my sandwiches.

Yeah missing reel cuz they all ran inside instead of casually filming the bear while he climbs on top of the ship 😁
Naw it wasn't missing, the bear fell as a diversion then used instant transmission to surprise them

Was just wondering, how much can a very hungry polar bear eat in one meal? I will guess one whole person at least.
Around 80kg
Reminds me of a Mitch Hedberg joke.
When we were on acid, we would go into the woods, because there was less chance that you would run into an authority figure. But we ran into a bear. My friend Duane was there, raising his right hand, swearing to help prevent forest fires. He told me, "Mitch, Smokey is way more intense in person!"
Bear: I was expecting to get served hot lead from my dinner, but it gave me salmon steaks?!
That’s just mind blowing
The bear's struggle is similar to mine when I can't open up a can of meat.
He goes "PSHHH PSHHH" and the bear politely goes back on the side of the boat.
In a dream I was chased by two polar bears. They caught me and pushed me in a hole in the ice. I swam away under the thick ice....two of them jumped in after me swimming much faster then me.....I knew I was as good as dead....I woke up.
Who knew feeding wild polar bears was a bad idea? Wait... everyone knows that.
Hey internet. Chill bruh. Ya’ll so triggered
Bear: "humans! Yummy!"
Humans: "let's do small talk in Swedish, fluffy"
OMG the size of that first polar bear is very intimadating. The head is the size of her upper torso and she is feeding it like a puppy dog.
They're feeding a wild animal and they expect it to go away? They've now set the stage for the bear's next human encounter--one where the human won't feed him and becomes a possible food source. Scientists and researchers like this are an embarrassment to the community of "observation not infiltration."
who the hell were the scientists and researchers in this video and when a polar bear spots you it's coming at you whether it's been fed by a human or not ffs
Paula Stephenson
They are Norwegians civilians, don’t lecture us about not feeding our surrounding animals in our nation.
@@pufferg4335 It's not like the average Norwegian has any contact with polar bears. The only time 99% of Norwegians will ever see a polar bear is in a zoo as there are no polar bears in mainland Norway and therefore the average Norwegian is no less ignorant than anyone else about how to deal with them.
Svalbard is a completely different world to the Norwegian mainland and the majority of Norwegians have probably never visited it.
Really really stupid behaviour.

Yeah, the bear should’ve known better than to try to climb up the side of the boat, he could’ve gotten his claw caught in the cabling!...Probably why they waited 20 years to release it, the bears probably dead and gone, save it the embarrassment.

They should be arrested for teaching animals to come close to human for food
Svalbard doesn't have any police... Or jail...
A jail in the Arctic? Haha, that would be funny. Maybe they should conduct civil service there... wait, they're already doing that.
+Aaron Cruz There are no polar bears in Antarctica ;-)
+Soltan Ahmadli - That really just doesn't apply to polar bears. They basically have no innate fear of humans anyway, they already come romping towards humans the moment they see them (intending to eat them). This contrasts with most bears that avoid people (or at very least human settlements) and then become a danger once they learn to come to people for food. Since polar bears don't avoid humans in the first place you're not actually hurting anything by feeding them. Not helping anything...but not hurting anything either. If anything teaching them that if they don't eat the humans right away they might get other kinds of food might be of minor benefit.
Why they dont avoid humans? I think every creature afraid of something strange
I've been on the Arctic ice. Only an idiot would interact with these polar bears in this way.
Steafan Dubhuidhe you can’t really walk on the Arctic Ice anymore as its mostly melted away due to climate change.

So, now the bear associates people with easy food. What could go wrong with that in the future?
Fun fact- bears don’t kill you before they eat you. They just start eating you 🤷🏼♂️
It was funny to see the bear chomping down on those salmon sandwiches - which looked VERY tasty! However, it was NOT funny to see how that bear got on that boat. At that point they will not differentiate between being fed by a human and/or making one it's next meal.
Some humans will never learn. They feed the bear and is hungry wants more food.
Bear comes aboard the boat wants more food. That's encouraging the bear.

this is just crazy, stupid and most importantly not good for the bears
Man feeding them ,where do these people come ? Bear says see people that means food
Why is it not good for the bears? He seems to like it.
Anytime humans feed bears, the bears become accustomed with equating people with food. It messes with the order of nature and makes it more likely that the bears will seek humans more often than not, and always expecting to be fed. This happened in Yellowstone park and generations of bears lost their instinct to hunt. Consequently a few generation of bears had to be fed everyday at a garbage dump until they weaned them from being fed. It wasn't an easy thing to do either. This is why in Yellowstone it is against the law to feed the bears. By the way see the comment below this one.
Bet the bear would love a 'Big Mac' too :-D I get your drift matey....lol
