    Polar Bear Family and Me
Polar bears are one of the most iconic animals on earth, and yet we know so little about them. Apart from fleeting glimpses, scientists and filmmakers have never been able to follow individuals to tell their story and record details of their family life. Now, taking what he has learnt while making the absorbing series The Bear Family and Me, wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan embarks on a new, ambitious and dangerous mission - to gain the trust of a family of polar bears and, using this unique opportunity, observe the life of these enigmatic animals as never before, over the course of a year.

A few months back I read on the news about how three Alaskan/Inuits (don’t recall well), who were attacked by a polar bear. One died and the other two barely managed to survive by killing the bear while it was attacking the third hunter. They were trapped for a few days and luckily were rescued.

Ok. Sure. This is amazing. But you're missing the underlying message which is far more sinister. All of these bears shouldn't be near one another. They shouldn't be meeting. This isn't a feeding or mating station. This is a ton of solitary creatures (families) being pushed together because of habitat-loss. Let's pray they learn how to tolerate one another in the coming generations. If not, they will be lost to infighting caused by territory reduction sparked in totality by climate change.

You know those polar bears aren't necessarily looking at the group of humans out of curiosity or feel that their territory is threatened. They're looking at potential food.
Also, I am sure that there's at least one armed person in the crew or escorting the crew.

predators are bad ass man. like a shark. he can clearly see it's him vs how ever many people are there, plus their snow mobiles which to a beast could be considered part of the threat...or meal....yet they are so enthusiastically ready to investigate.

The bears didn't eat them because they thought if they did it would anger the human race and we'd speed up global warming. :(

It's called a "guide gun" and it's a carbine-length (for fitting behind Cesna seats) bolt or lever action five-to-seven shot rifle that fires the kind of bullet they put in a sniper rifle. Drop a polar bear like it was a gopher...
