- Watch Nora the polar bear cub through her nearly first two years of life. Nora was born in a zoo on Nov. 5, 2015. At six days old, her mother left their den and didn't come back. Columbus Zoo keepers made the decision to raise her.

Well, we could probably breed one like that, except the living forever bit. Thats what we did with the wolf. We just have to kill any large or aggressive ones an breed smaller and smaller

I MET HER IN REAL LIFE! She’s such an entertainer! She would repeatedly swim under the water, look at us through the glass, and then dramatically flip up backwards into the air and do it all over again. She LOVES attention and applause!

Nora as a cub likes her bottle, her blankie and her stuffed animal buddy. Older, she likes belly flops into the pool. Our need to enjoy cuteness is not really an excuse for holding animals in captivity, though.
In Nora's case its complicated..she has grown in captivity, and if she is released to the wild she would not survive on her own

But they’re still wild- bring a hunk of meat around a hand-raised polar bear and you’ll see it in action. But that bear will always know it’s trainers and handlers, and will be more friendly towards them for the rest of its life.

For those wondering what happened to her mother: "Nora was born on November 6, 2015 in the Polar Frontier region at the Columbus Zoo. Animal Care team members had hoped that Aurora, Nora’s mother, would care for Nora but when she began leaving the fragile newborn alone for prolonged periods of time the team decided to step in and hand-rear the cub."
