    I use a combination of euro nymphing and indicator fishing. Euro for skinny water that has fish and indication for the big holes.

      Totally agree, we too use a combination of techniques based on water depth and speed. Great advice for all

      Very good. What also blows people’s mind is I will actually use a 10’6 3 weight nymph rod for steelhead and land them fairly fast

    I just run 12 mono right off my pin reel to my hook and it works well

    Pennsylvania streams Steel head runs tend to have larger fish. From my fishing experiences this season, we also catch big browns occasionally and some of them are jumbo size trout.

    Hi Mark - were you using the H3 D or F in the 8 wt.? Thank you

      Hi Brooktrout Angler, I was using the H3D. Ive been playing with the F for the last few weeks and love it as well. Forces you to slow down and concentrate on your timing. Thanks!

    Where’s this “chrome” that you speak of???

    • @newflyfisher
      @newflyfisher  5 лет назад

      They were trying to catch chrome but had more luck with drop-backs. Good point. Of course a few days after they left, a fresh run of "chrome" did come up the river!

    Anyone have a foolproof way of telling apart steelheads from regular rainbows?

    • @newflyfisher
      @newflyfisher  5 лет назад

      There is quite a debate about the difference between Great Lakes steelhead and ocean/west coast steelhead. We are not familiar with a specific means of telling the difference but perhaps someone reading this does know?

    • @dimes3335
      @dimes3335 5 лет назад +1

      To be a true steelhead, it needs to be an ocean run fish. All Great Lakes rainbow trout are just that, rainbow trout, not steelhead

      @@newflyfisher Thanks for the reply! If you guys don't know, then I won't bother being any more of a nit than I already am and just call them all rainbows XD
