I’ve never fly fished a day in my life but over the summer I went backpacking in Pennsylvania and there was a guy fly fishing along a little creek we camped at. I got pretty hooked watching him and now I want to try it. I was just at Mohican this weekend and I got the itch to fish. Any tips for someone wanting to get into fly fishing that has never done it?
Thats awesome, you're gonna love it! I would say best tips would be to talk to a local fly shop about the areas you are wanting to fish (Mad River Outfitters is a good one in Columbus) and then when you do get your first rod, practice casting in the backyard without any flies tied on to get the cadence down before you get to the river and become super frustrated. Also Orvis has some great teaching videos on their RUclips channel!
I only fished the clear fork once or twice as a young kid. Somewhere at my dads theres an incredible picture of myself that was taken there early in the morning. i was in mid cast and aside from a few tries barely visible all you saw was me and fog takinf just right
a bunch apparently haha i saw at least 3! There were a bunch of people fishing for them by the spillway though so its pretty well known with people in the area. Thanks and appreciate ya watching!
Me and a buddy were fishing there over the weekend and we need some better spots to go to besides where the covered bridge is have you went up the creek and how far like past the camping areas
To be honest man I havent done much exploring in that area either! just fished the usual spots the two times that I've been but youll have to let me know if the fishing is alright further down river haha I assumed the closer to the dam the better with the colder water.
@@LifeOutdoors definitely will I live on Pennsylvania I watched your video on the Allegheny national forest I want to fish it now I'm little over an hour away from there
@@WhitefleetFishing Ive got a few from that area but you definitely need to get out and fish around there its pristine and pretty straight forward fishing!
Definitely worth a trip! These are stocked fish but some do holdover so there are decent sized trout in there. Hit me up on Curated and I can set you up with flies and whatever gear you need for 10% off www.curated.com/referral/jacob.jesionek
If you go to the area right below the clear fork lake spillway there were lots of fish out and about just some decent pressure and then keep working your way downstream and they are all throughout there.
Awesome vid! I'm from the NE part of Ohio. I have only been trout fishing once and it was this year. I'd like to get more into it. What is the best time of year, and most common places in Ohio to go?! Thanks!
Thank you! Well ohio options are pretty limited... but basically the mad river or Mohican river and they will both fish anytime of the year with the middle of summer being the toughest fishing!
If you are in NE you are not far from pittsburgh. They also have great trout fishing. Too learn more about ohio flyfishing just go online and you can find an abundance of articles as well as maps
Can someone please direct me to a stream in Holmes Co. Oh that's awesome to fish. Prairie Lane in Wooster Oh is awesome, btw, looking for change of scenery.
You find that brown that stole my setup?!😂
I wish 😂 just a little baby lol
I saw a man fly fishing in the Mohican as a kid. He hooked a big brown right underneath a sunken tree. It changed my life; been a fisherman ever since
That’s awesome! What a great way to get into the sport.
Everytime I set up a drop rig I end up with the world's best birdnest.
It happens 😂 maybe shortening up your rig will help!
Open up your loop when casting
Pro Tip!

No
My spot I've been fishing there for 3 years my fish lol
I'm kidding good fish there I caught a 6 pound cat there
It is worth the trip
I lived in this area for 14 years had to move to texas due to family issues. Miss this place like crazy.
Such a beautiful little tucked away spot in Ohio! That drive into the park is always stunning.
@@LifeOutdoors yea it’s very nice looking I wish I lived there or Cincinnati had sonething like that. 😞
@@Gooftroop2756 Not gonna lie I have no idea what the fishing is like in cincy lol
@@LifeOutdoors It’s depends. Usually I can’t find many bass fishing spots so I jus go crappie or bluegills fishing then use those as bait for cats
@@LifeOutdoors and btw ur vids look pretty fun. And entertaining. Well they are entertaining.

Sounds like you need to get that picture re-framed and on show! That is a beautiful piece of water, truly a little gem in Ohio.
Didn’t know muskies were in clear fork! Nice hook ups too

What time of year did you go?
The video was posted in June so it must have been May or early June!
We are going camping there soon
You’ll like it for sure!
Ive never fished it but ID like to. Where can you park if I come in on 13?
There’s plenty of parking near the campgrounds and at various spots along the river if you take a look at the satellite maps!
Thanks ill take my fly rod and have a look here in a month.
Are these trout wild now or do they release them every year?

They release them every year rainbow on the lower clearfork brownies on the upper. They live in the water but cannot spawn to reproduce.
does the river have bass and muskies?
I believe so yes!
@@LifeOutdoors what are the best places to catch fish for each species if you don't mind answering because I'm heading up there soon

@@LifeOutdoors where is this???
What that rod and reel you have it looks sick and nice video
Thanks man! It’s the Orvis Recon 5wt paired with the Orvis Hydros limited edition purple 🤙🏼
A 4 ft muskie swam by me today in that river...
There’s some tank muskies in there 👀

Yup, much better trout fishing in PA than Ohio! I get a year license in both states 👍🏼
@@yosimitesam9179 you sounded like a commercial for a second. 😂😂😂
am from Ohio and am getting into fly fishing dident know trout bit in 84 degree weather
Sure enough, as long as the water is cold enough they will eat!
Just don't play them too much when it's that hot, and do not remove from the water unless you are planning on keeping and eating them.
Yeah that is a good point. Wish I had my net but I try to get quick releases when possible 👌🏼
Can someone please direct me to a stream in Holmes Co. Oh that's awesome to fish. Prairie Lane in Wooster Oh is awesome, btw, looking for change of scenery.
I actually don’t have any experience fishing Holmes county so I hope someone else comments for ya! Thanks for watching though 🙌🏼
@@LifeOutdoors thanks for replying!
@@greenscapelpc038 No problem!
Try the Apple Creek in Wooster.
Yup that’s a good one 👍🏼
My fly rod tips broke twice
That’s a shame. I know the feeling
what did the gagues read that day
I’m not sure at all sorry that I couldn’t be of more help! It was Saturday.
As in Saturday 6-6? My 9 year old loves to fly fish. We are planning a trip down soon. Maybe as soon as possible after seeing those!
Yup! Hopefully he can catch a few, the fishing is pretty tough there
Man you looks tarzon
Haha I’ll take that as a compliment
Awful warm to be pulling trout out of the water
Ohio trout are the toughest around!
Since when did trout swim to Ohio, Sorry I'm kinda new to fishin' I started like 4 years ago and somehow im still bad
There are lots of places you can find trout at different times of the year in Ohio. look up Ohio trout stocking to see dates for different locations!
