When setting the hook I've learned to use the water to load the road as well, however when possible, I set the hook downstream as to not pull the fly out of the mouth.

Ya see this all the TIME: as guides they should know this... NEVER grab a salmon by it tail it tears the meat and breaks there back bones 90% of the time, I say this cause I fillet salmon on the daily and I never knew until I started fishing and filleting them for work as I work in a fish market for 10 years I should know this 🤘🏻 refrain grabbing the tail of any salmon any time possible 🙏🏻

I know I’m two years late, but as someone who’s fillets salmon you should know that this is not a salmon. It’s a trout

How could that be steelhead or transferred from McLeod river in California that meaning that the first steel head put into the river or populations of real ocean strain steelhead using those eggs and milk populations were established so please explain to me how a migratory rainbow trout is not a steel head

These are not Steelhead, sorry. They are a lake run rainbow. If you call these steelhead, you have to call every lake run red band on any Columbia River tributary a steelhead. Real steelhead are much cooler. I’ve caught both and these lake run rainbows are no competition to a real, wild, pacific b-run fish.
