Poker Hands - The Billionaire Hero Calls Viffer

- Viffer takes a bizarre line against billionaire Phil Ruffin, and gets caught red handed. Many aspects of this High Stakes Poker clip perplex Doug, but he breaks it down street by street as always.
Poker Hands is a series in which Doug analyzes televised hands and shares his thoughts. New episodes are uploaded every Monday (and sometimes Thursday).

This hand is very simple. Don't bluff the fish.
nit
Viffer is the fish tho.
@@roeKY Don't bluff the fish is GOLD you fish.
Fish calls, dont bluff 😄
Man, it's like people just see the hand and don't even regard Doug's commentary where he specifically argues against this viewpoint. But hey, you know better than he does, right?
ruffin is just too high level for doug to get, he owned viffer this hand, managed to turn mid pair into a 150k payday. What a legend
"What's Ruffin going to do here? It's a toug . . . . "
"I CALL."
Viffer was on cocaine and adderall . I think it's a standard line he took with the 9 dewwy given his mindset.
I love how the commentator is casually Norm Mcdonald
Mario Silvestri III I was gonna say, that sounds like Norm! LOL.
Yeah Norm killed High Stakes Poker show. Should have kept Gabe Kaplan.
that is norm
Come on Doug, Ruffin is a poker wizard. He got the maxium, Viffer called with 2 % on the flop, reraised drawning dead on the turn and snapped his river bet;). True genius.
the only logical reason i would think he bet so much on the turn is to know if Viffer was bluffing since he would never raise there with AJ or AQ to a overbet donk and he had the K so it was unlikely that he had AK, but i dont know maybe he was just a bored billionaire fish xd
I watched that whole series. Ruffin just overvalued his hands all along. He massively overbet a straight thinking it was good with 3 to a flush on board, and got a pro with a middling flush to lay it down. He also made a bunch of big hands like sets. Selbst paid off his set all-in versus AQ on an Ace high board.
He made a ton of money, then gave a lot of it to Barry Greenstein by being outkicked (K rag vs KQ). He left right after that hand.
IMO Ruffin is focused on his own hand and makes decisions intuitively.
Preflop is "standard". I mean, it's suited, so it's alredy 40% of a flush and taking a look at the flop is so cheap and if you hit the flush you can win lot of money.
Flop is "a pretty clear bet". "Your hand is not strong enough to trap, but you have something, so you have to bet"
Turn is a scared bet because the FD comes in and things are getting "dicy". He would be happy to take it down right now and not have to play rivers. Viffer now raises, but he has a K and Viffer cannot know that. Don't forget how hard it is to make a pair in Hold'Em.
River is a heart. Awwwwwwww cowpat. He checks hoping for Viffer to check behind, which he doesn't. So he calls hoping that Viffer is bluffing and if he hit the flush, then that's really unlucky. Sometimes you want to see you got unlucky
... that's how I think the hand develops in his eyes. It's sick that he makes a USD 100k decision in an very instant
*already ... cough cough
It's suited so it's 40 percent of a flush? That's the dumbest attempt at trying to justify playing weak suited junk and has literally no logic
It's pretty accurate analisys of what's going on in fish's head. On the river he is like, WHAT DOES THING GUY HAVE HE BLUFFING IMMA CALL. Actually against every river bet ever.
@@djinnification I think you misunderstood the poster's point - it's probably very close to how the player was thinking.
Thanks for the vids Doug. I really enjoy listening to your analyses and I'm learning a great deal from them.
I honestly have never before seen that hand. Hilarious shit, I dont think that hand could have been butchered any more lmao
This hand is insane, but Peat's respond on twitter is just hilarious, lmao.
Grats with the 10k Doug!
Had to watch this again. It is such great stuff!
Viffer tilting on twitter is too funny. You're one of my favs Doug. Congrats on getting 2nd in the High Roller! So entertaining. Btw I commented on your little facebook 1% shindig!! Holler homie!!!
Love the content Doug only watched 10 or so thus far, but already made some adjustments I didn't think of.
I think Ruffin just calls it down bc he would not care anyways about the money lol
grats on 10k. love the poker hand vids!
"Having three in his hand actually blocks some of the bluffs"
Liked this part the most!
How Ruffin was probably thinking.
PreflopAdvisor: sheesh this guy raises me all the time. Thinks he can bully me. Nope.
Flop: let’s bet to see where I’m at. If he raises I’m in trouble. (Wow he called so fast. A huge hand would never do that. He’s weak)
Turn: there’s no way that card helped and you’re weak. Bet again. (Oh you’re trying to bully me again? I know you’re weak and I know that didn’t help)
River: let’s see if he’ll try to represent the flush. ($100k? Way too big. You don’t want me to call. You’re trying to push me around again and I know you’re weak)
Then gets that line of thinking rewarded with being right this time.
Oh man I didn't know Doug did a video on this hand. This is one of my favorite hands from when I started to get into poker like 10 years ago.
Doug Polk to Viffer:
Preflop:FOOOOLD!
Flop:FOOOOLD!
Turn:FOOOOLD!
River:FOOOOLD!
Doug this was your best video. Very informative and funny as f&@$!
Cool video series gl in the 10k today Doug!
its 2021 and i still love this.
Another great vid, thanks Dog Pork!
the background is better than those blinds with light coming in *chuckles* these hand anaylsis vids are cool thank you
I love me some hand analysis. I learn the most from this kind of stuff.
It's also important to be on either your opponents level or 1 level above them. Peat went a little interstellar there against the amateur, and if i remember correctly, the rest of the table made fun of him for trying to bluff a billionaire.
Hey Doug. Love the videos! Can you do a video about the big Matt Kirk, Andrew Robl hand?
btw doug...i'm just getting into your channel and vids...subscribed today...:) top quality analysis delivered in a very user friendly way...thanks for the time you take to produce and post...and i totally agree with you about what you said recently about daniel ( corporate shill) negreanu re pokerstars rake...apparently he has never heard of the ' bell curve'...if one is left with only the best and the worst players, that removes 75% of players from the pool...purely according to bell curve theory.
ahhhh i love this analysis!
This is great stuff!
Haha, crazy hand ,so funny . U should also make a vid of Matt Kirk vs Andrew robl hand , that one is nuts
Ruffin was calling with a joker on the river... it wasn't about the cards with these two...no analysis was utilized whatsoever... Love your analytical approach Doug but its far too esoteric for these two in this hand...Ruffin saw a desperate crack pot in Viffer, who at 40 something years of age recently self professed to having "one foot in the grave" .... Perhaps Ruffin thought ~like you said Doug... Viffer was going crazy and wanted to intimidate his opponent into folding... Ruffin didn't buy Viffer's raise PRE ...and went with his read out of the batters box and sprinted to first base on his way to home plate with the initial gut read. Oh the good ole days of live cash.
Doesn't hurt to have several hundred million "liquid" in the bank either if your wrong.
Man, I feel like I should be paying to hear this insight... Doug, thank you so much. When I play in casinos at $500 NL I meet this Bill Ruffin types all the time, it' so frustrating. They create an 'unbluffable' image because they are loaded & call for fun - so I'm guessing now after seeing this... I'm missing SO MANY SPOTS to bluff / value bet thin...
Thanks a heap, man
Really rocking the double index finger point Doug.
Viffer raging at this video on Twitter
Lol damn he's so rude. Calling Doug dumb.

This is so fucking funny A+
I don't usually click the like button on youtube vids but there's always one sentence that cracks me up and makes me do it
this time it was at 2:22 THAT DOES NOT MEAN IT'S TIME TO GO TO TOWN HERE WITH 92cc
Doug, when I first started listening it sounded like a foreign language.
Now I get about 2/3rds of it. :)
first lesson:
DO NOT BLUFF A FISH
NEVER
"I'm so tilted by this hand!" lol
Viffer’s turn Re-Raise happened SO FAST!! It looked like he was planning to do it.
And just grabbing chips and figure out how much to raise once your chips are over the line…. cannot possibly be a monster.
You would think about how much to raise with a set or combo draw for AT LEAST 10 seconds before grabbing your chips.
Croak insta-correcting "rubber band" into "silly band" for the cameras at 13:15 is so tilting.
This is the most funny thing ever!
thx for video, very helpful )
good video! Interesting hand, but I guess Phill Ruffin is playing play money here, so Viffer should really pick a better spot. I can somewhat understand isolating pre with a suited 92 :D and floating small bet on the flop, but when Ruffin pots the turn, it's a clear fold. Btw don't you think Viffer would get the same result with betting 70-80k instead of 100k on the river?
Viffer is such a handsome devil
I think Ruffin just had a stone cold read. Viffer is an open book on this hand imo, especially that SUPER STRONG insta call on flop lol
which episode of HSP is this?
This hand is absolutely ridiculous, great for analysis thought but it's so fking fun. He snap OTR, lmfao
Thank you for analyzing this hand, even tho it's just like analyzing play money poker...
But what an awesome video I just watched hahahahahahahahahahaha
Just subbed. it's great to hear such basic logic explained In such a profitable way. It almost seems as if Doug is that angel on the right side that tells you what, how and why you need to do it...even if you kinda already know it. BUT(!)...you refuse to do it. I call it: #wannabapokaprosyndrome. (otherwise known as the devil on your shoulder). you kinda know these things but don't utilise it. This channel will help you . gl at the tables :)
this is actually hilarious i think both these players learned the hand ranking in poker just before the game started.
What does K3 even beat taking into account he got raised preflop lol
92s from a bald spazz
this is the poker phenom
Thanks for the vids Doug, you must be the cheapest highstakes poker coach on the planet!
Wax god:"that's one of the worst raises by a pro I've ever seen." ...rofl
God thats so funny when he has to turn over his fold
Norm Macondald 😔
"you got it" lol !!!
The funniest part is that Ruffin took about 20 seconds to call.
I think your strategy is nitty abc poker. Here is mine: if you see a player leading with 100% of their range you want to float and then raise them with some of your bluffs and some strong hands to balance your range.
You could tell on the turn Phil was calling whatever happens, betting the river was silly, give it up
On 4th street, Ruffin had a pretty good reason to bet so high: there were two hearts on the board, and he wants to make Peat pay for it if he's on a flush draw. Pretty obvious, no?
one a week is not enough, lets go polk turn up the volume
Doug,do you think Phil Ruffin has any clue about value ranges? He's like Me has King,King is Strong I'm a billionaire I call
viffer ate too many cookies that day.
what a player
doesnt even have to think about it very long^^
prolly his easiest call ever
WHAT !? Not 92 of Bink's feet ? .. I'm Lost ....
Hey Doug, love your analysis. And all of what you're saying makes perfect sense but not in case of guys like Ruffin. And it's not because he's a complete idiot (as far as poker is concerned) as even fish can play scared money. It's because he doesn't give a damn if he loses 200k, or 500k. He's a billionnaire. So it's like playing poker with matches instead o money. Bluffing makes no sense because you're gonna always get called by an idiot with a second pair. And let's be honest, in this spot, after that line, his second pair is as good as Q-high. And this is what makes me really angry about this hand. The guy got rewarded having played the hand absolutely HORRIBLY.
Anyway, great content, mate, keep it up!
What a Juicy Yuicy game!
hahah... its like watching a fish plain vs the other fish... LoL
Something to consider:
This is play money for Ruffin, you see the exact same plays on play money tables all of the time. If you really think about it, its probably a winning strat in the long run.. pros would end up losing long term Vs. a Billionaire donk like this unless they had the patience to go 100% nitty.
I seriously need to watch your vids like daily. Total fanboy behavior on my part.
92s raise pre is also good for the show
Good analysis for pro players....but listen, Ruffin is a billionaire and amateur. Viffer has a big ego and thought he could own Ruffin. Not!
Viffer is the supreme donk. never seen him make a good play
Doug do rewiev on Doyle vs LaLiberte pls
You content is shit hot!......Look forward these in particular...
16:22 I listened to this part 10 times and still dunno wtf you said.
"The great thing about when you start playing rock, paper, scissors with poker, guys"
He’s talking about levels of thinking ie I know he’s bluffing but he knows i know he’s bluff ....
I hear it now. My ear for Doug's slurred speech has been conditioned and improved.
Obviusly viffer had a read. Viffer is a great player. He wouldn t play like this for no reason.
I think the one part Viffer went wrong is not raising his small flop bet. If he was representing an Ace, or Ace King etc, would those hands just flat call a 5k bet into a 20k pot on the flop ? I dont think so
How to get max value out of second pair no kicker by Phil Ruffin
Ruffin actually misread his hand. He thought the 3 was an 8
Physical tells should be used as a supplement to the general read on the situation. They should not be used as the basis of your decision.
Doug he couldn't let Viffer punk him
I would never put myself in this situation. So never.
Also, Viffer’s preflop raise was incredibly sloppy. Chips rolled all over the place. It just didn’t look confident. He obviously didn’t intend to do that, but it might’ve been a nervous tell that he wasn’t able to cleanly throw in the preflop bet. Phil may have decided Viffer was nervously making a play with nothing and he decided I am calling him down all streets no matter what.
Look at Doyle’s eyes after Viffer threw in that sloppy preflop bet. Seems like he sized him up and also found that preflop raise to be incredibly suspicious.
This hand is ridiculous.
Hey that's me, still ridiculous.
its no surprise Viffer is broke now lol
The only reason why Ruffin called he has 2 billion net worth and don't know any better
maybe viffer had a sniff in the rest room just before this hand...lol...
he tried to isolate the weak player pre flop...this worked...but imo it was a totally arrogant and overconfident bluff play post flop, showing no respect to the billionaire...who could easily have had a weak ace too, and could have made 2 pr with A4...and who has more money than viffer will ever see.
Tom Dwan may have played this hand similar preflop and on the flop...but he would not have followed this arrogant bluff line on the turn and river...especially against a calling station fish like a billionaire, to whom money ( at this level) means nothing.
Viffers career graph probably looks akin to the silly bands guy
First time I see someone make a deposit to an ATM machine...aren't you supposed to just withdraw from those?
instant call 2nd pair K, to 100 k river bet, that the real poker.
the only logical reason i would think he bet so much on the turn is to know if viffer was bluffing since he would never raise there with AJ or AQ to a overbet donk and he had the K so it was unlikely that he had AK, but i dont know maybe he was just a fish xd
Ruffin is not a thinking player.
don't try to out play a fool period. Doyle has said all his life show a bad player a hand and that's why he is playing tight
idk what happened in this hand but man that guy just must have felt he had the best hand poker a feeling too. sometimes Ace king can feel like a great hand and other time it can feel like a loser. go with your feeling sometime is what I learned cause that lady luck talking to u
Ruffin is a total fish. Please lend me 100k and let me play heads up against him; I'll double up surely., and I'm a terrible player.
Viffer thout his range was week and desided early to play the board.
dono what Ruffin is doing tho
When you're a billionaire, this is standard play...
