  • Viffer takes a bizarre line against billionaire Phil Ruffin, and gets caught red handed. Many aspects of this High Stakes Poker clip perplex Doug, but he breaks it down street by street as always.
    Poker Hands is a series in which Doug analyzes televised hands and shares his thoughts. New episodes are uploaded every Monday (and sometimes Thursday).

    Come on Doug, Ruffin is a poker wizard. He got the maxium, Viffer called with 2 % on the flop, reraised drawning dead on the turn and snapped his river bet;). True genius.

    • @mrcv1999
      @mrcv1999 2 года назад

      the only logical reason i would think he bet so much on the turn is to know if Viffer was bluffing since he would never raise there with AJ or AQ to a overbet donk and he had the K so it was unlikely that he had AK, but i dont know maybe he was just a bored billionaire fish xd

  • @kylelooper2156
    @kylelooper2156 4 года назад +10

    I watched that whole series. Ruffin just overvalued his hands all along. He massively overbet a straight thinking it was good with 3 to a flush on board, and got a pro with a middling flush to lay it down. He also made a bunch of big hands like sets. Selbst paid off his set all-in versus AQ on an Ace high board.
    He made a ton of money, then gave a lot of it to Barry Greenstein by being outkicked (K rag vs KQ). He left right after that hand.

  • @hanspetervollhorst1
    @hanspetervollhorst1 7 лет назад +37

    IMO Ruffin is focused on his own hand and makes decisions intuitively.
    Preflop is "standard". I mean, it's suited, so it's alredy 40% of a flush and taking a look at the flop is so cheap and if you hit the flush you can win lot of money.
    Flop is "a pretty clear bet". "Your hand is not strong enough to trap, but you have something, so you have to bet"
    Turn is a scared bet because the FD comes in and things are getting "dicy". He would be happy to take it down right now and not have to play rivers. Viffer now raises, but he has a K and Viffer cannot know that. Don't forget how hard it is to make a pair in Hold'Em.
    River is a heart. Awwwwwwww cowpat. He checks hoping for Viffer to check behind, which he doesn't. So he calls hoping that Viffer is bluffing and if he hit the flush, then that's really unlucky. Sometimes you want to see you got unlucky
    ... that's how I think the hand develops in his eyes. It's sick that he makes a USD 100k decision in an very instant

    How Ruffin was probably thinking.
    PreflopAdvisor: sheesh this guy raises me all the time. Thinks he can bully me. Nope.
    Flop: let’s bet to see where I’m at. If he raises I’m in trouble. (Wow he called so fast. A huge hand would never do that. He’s weak)
    Turn: there’s no way that card helped and you’re weak. Bet again. (Oh you’re trying to bully me again? I know you’re weak and I know that didn’t help)
    River: let’s see if he’ll try to represent the flush. ($100k? Way too big. You don’t want me to call. You’re trying to push me around again and I know you’re weak)
    Then gets that line of thinking rewarded with being right this time.

    Ruffin was calling with a joker on the river... it wasn't about the cards with these two...no analysis was utilized whatsoever... Love your analytical approach Doug but its far too esoteric for these two in this hand...Ruffin saw a desperate crack pot in Viffer, who at 40 something years of age recently self professed to having "one foot in the grave" .... Perhaps Ruffin thought ~like you said Doug... Viffer was going crazy and wanted to intimidate his opponent into folding... Ruffin didn't buy Viffer's raise PRE ...and went with his read out of the batters box and sprinted to first base on his way to home plate with the initial gut read. Oh the good ole days of live cash.

    good video! Interesting hand, but I guess Phill Ruffin is playing play money here, so Viffer should really pick a better spot. I can somewhat understand isolating pre with a suited 92 :D and floating small bet on the flop, but when Ruffin pots the turn, it's a clear fold. Btw don't you think Viffer would get the same result with betting 70-80k instead of 100k on the river?

    Hey Doug, love your analysis. And all of what you're saying makes perfect sense but not in case of guys like Ruffin. And it's not because he's a complete idiot (as far as poker is concerned) as even fish can play scared money. It's because he doesn't give a damn if he loses 200k, or 500k. He's a billionnaire. So it's like playing poker with matches instead o money. Bluffing makes no sense because you're gonna always get called by an idiot with a second pair. And let's be honest, in this spot, after that line, his second pair is as good as Q-high. And this is what makes me really angry about this hand. The guy got rewarded having played the hand absolutely HORRIBLY.
    Anyway, great content, mate, keep it up!

    Also, Viffer’s preflop raise was incredibly sloppy. Chips rolled all over the place. It just didn’t look confident. He obviously didn’t intend to do that, but it might’ve been a nervous tell that he wasn’t able to cleanly throw in the preflop bet. Phil may have decided Viffer was nervously making a play with nothing and he decided I am calling him down all streets no matter what.

    he tried to isolate the weak player pre flop...this worked...but imo it was a totally arrogant and overconfident bluff play post flop, showing no respect to the billionaire...who could easily have had a weak ace too, and could have made 2 pr with A4...and who has more money than viffer will ever see.
    Tom Dwan may have played this hand similar preflop and on the flop...but he would not have followed this arrogant bluff line on the turn and river...especially against a calling station fish like a billionaire, to whom money ( at this level) means nothing.

    the only logical reason i would think he bet so much on the turn is to know if viffer was bluffing since he would never raise there with AJ or AQ to a overbet donk and he had the K so it was unlikely that he had AK, but i dont know maybe he was just a fish xd

    don't try to out play a fool period. Doyle has said all his life show a bad player a hand and that's why he is playing tight

    Ruffin is a total fish. Please lend me 100k and let me play heads up against him; I'll double up surely., and I'm a terrible player.
