    Its the same for dutasteride ?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  9 месяцев назад +42

      With the standard dose of dutasteride, 0.5 mg per day, the average semen dutasteride level was 3.4 ng/ml, which is about the same as finasteride semen levels. So there shouldn't be any more risk to male fetuses with dutasteride than with finasteride. As far as fertility, the effects on sperm counts and function were the same with dutasteride as with finasteride, meaning just small effects that normally wouldn't affect fertility. So dutasteride should be safe if you are trying to have children, at least with a dose of 0.5 mg per day.
      I don't think there is any data on 2.5 mg per day of dutasteride, but I doubt it would make much difference.
      As always, it's best to check with your doctor and your partner's ob-gyn for specific advice about what to do.

    Finasteride has been a revelation for me. At the start of 2022 I was resigned to a bald fate. Approaching 30 with a bald spot on my crown I was covering with a man bun.
    I’d bought propecia several years before but was scared of sides.
    Then I started to watch Kevin. I took finasteride for a few months in 2022 but stopped because friends told me I would get side effects.
    However since 2023 started I’ve been on it the whole time and what a change. My crown has filled in, I’ve cut my hair short and the health and quality of my hair and scalp is the best it’s been in nearly 10 years.
    Thank any and all the Gods for Kevin for giving me the courage to start taking finasteride.
    I’ve commented before thanking Kevin, but people need to listen to him. His advice will save your hair, your mental health and maybe your life.
    Thanks to Kevin and the people who helped create finasteride and got it approved.

    @haircafe Thank you for the quality of your videos, and for your time. a lot of work behind it. and thank you for including women. I have a question, can a woman use topical minoxidil during pregnancy? I don't see any risk, it's something local. I suppose that you don't advice using topical finasteride in the pregnancy, right? Last question, if you have androgenic alopecia, is the risk of passing it on to your children reduced if you have previously taken finasteride? By the way, you have great hair in terms of volume and appearance.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  9 месяцев назад +1

      Happy to help!
      Topical Minoxidil is completely safe to use during pregnancy, no issues there. Topical finasteride on the other hand is strictly off-limits for pregnant women because it still penetrates the skin and goes systemic very easily. Definitely avoid any 5AR inhibitors if you are pregnant.
      Lastly, no. The risk of passing on the androgenic alopecia gene to your offspring is the same regardless if you are on finasteride or not because it is written in your genes. People who have androgenic alopecia and take finasteride still have the androgenic alopecia gene and it can be passed down to future generations.

Roughly 2 months ago I began shedding, and I also switched from foam minoxidil (filling a glass spray bottle with it and holding it under hot water) to liquid minoxidil. I’m still shedding and I’m wondering if switching from foam to liquid has something to do with it, or fin has just stopped working as my MPB is somewhat agressive at 22. I’m roughly a Norwood 1.5 hairline wise with thinning on the crown. Should I add dutasteride/ru? How do I know if it’s a shed vs just losing ground again? Please respond. Your analysis and videos is much appreciated. Thank you!

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  9 месяцев назад +3

      Nah, it definitely wasn't because of the minoxidil as it is the same drug. I think most likely it is just a seasonal shed.
      If the shed doesn't subside after a couple of months then I'd consider upgrading to the dutasteride master race. You can even consider 2.5 MG of dutasteride daily if you really want to nuke the shit out of your DHT.

    is making the rounds on tressless and states that finasteride is less effective and provides less maintenance benefits In young men (early 20s) I feel Kinda hopeless since im 21 and that means I must have super aggresvise AGA. Still have most of my hair but noticed scalp around my temples under bright lights. I tried fin for a year but all I noticed was a huge shed and hair looks more diffuse even over a year later.

      I'm familiar with the study. It's one of the only non-Asian studies looking at 10 year follow-up on finasteride. That said, the number of subjects in the 20-30 year old group is pretty small, so I wouldn't make much out of it. There are plenty of studies showing that the younger you are, the better response you get, for example this study, pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22325459/#:~:text=There%20was%20also%20a%20significant,regions%20in%20the%20older%20men.

I was hoping it was just a shed but at this point I'm worried I'm just losing ground and I feel like I need to add something to help. What do you think?
    My dad is Norwood 7 so I feel like I have really aggressive balding genetics that can't be held off by just fin and min. My hairline now is starting to be at its worst it's ever been. Kevin what’s your thoughts on topical dutasteride particularly the one called dutagen? It’s from hemia cosmetics. I take 0.5 milligrams of oral dutasteride 3x a week and I definitely have sides. I’m wondering if topical would get rid of them. You think dutagen is a legit brand? I don’t mind paying extra if it works and saves me the sides. What brand or way of getting topical dutasteride do you recommend?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  9 месяцев назад +2

      The problem with topical dutasteride is that there is no good evidence that it absorbs well into the scalp. Even when injected directly into the scalp via mesotherapy it is still much less effective than oral dutasteride.
      The brand is probably legitimate but topical dutasteride is not a proven product so I would avoid it.
      Either try oral finasteride or topical finasteride if you can't use oral dutasteride.

    Your initial point is very noteworthy: **Not** taking Finasteride also has a very high chance of causing infertility. Since no woman will breed with a balding man anyway.
    Your final recommendation seemed a bit confusing though. You said it's ok to stop for a couple of months before trying to conceive. But you also said that the half-life of Finasteride in blood is 48 hrs, so it will be out of the system within a week. (I know scalp tissue binding half-life is much longer than 48 hrs)
    So is it really necessary to stop for a couple of months, or will stopping for a couple of weeks would be fine? Would like to know your opinion on this.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  9 месяцев назад +5

      If you are worried about birth defects, they usually occur in the first trimester of the pregnancy. If you are continuing to have sex during pregnancy, you might want to abstain from finasteride the first three months. Or abstain from sex the first three months. Of course, I don't think there is evidence it's necessary to do that, but if you are worried about the effect of finasteride on the fetus then you would probably want to hold the finasteride for the first few months of pregnancy. I'm not saying you need to abstain for months before trying to have a child.

I am 23y old with a nw 2/3 (hairline is going back on the sides with some thinning on the front). No sides for now although it is a bit early (day 3). Also, I am considering doing a hair transplant soon and was also wondering if should I wait 6-12 months because I just started finasteride.

      @haircafekevin  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yo! 1.25 MG every other day is probably good enough but if you're new to the fight you should probably just use it daily. No need to start from a position of compromise. Titrate down only if you need to.
      I'd agree you should wait 6-12 months at least before considering a transplant but at nw2/3 you're unlikely to get complete regrowth. If you want to maximize your chances of it then I'd add topical minoxidil too.

    Kevin, please can I have your thoughts on this.. (ANYONE ELSE WELCOME)
    I've been on finasteride for over 4 years with no side effects whatsoever. I included dut mesotherapy a year ago as I started to lose ground once again but this didn't help. I've decided to follow the Australian case study of combining 1x 0.5 dut a week with 6 days of 1mg fin. I took my first dose 5 days ago and I've noticed a burning sensation at the nipples and a reduced libido. I am concerned as the burning sensation has been on and off for the past 3 days but I'm also curious as to whether my pre-existing troubled mental state (family problems etc) is making things worse.
    I'm in slight disbelief that one single dose of 0.5 dut could be prompting side effects, considering the fact I've had NO problems with finasteride.
    Does anyone have any advice on what I could do? Anyone else had a similar experience to report? I've heard people say that this goes away after a week or so but others reporting gyno. I'm thinking of just abandoning this plan of dut once a week and looking into topical perhaps. I've written to my trichologist so I'm looking forward to seeing what she has to say.
    Thanks in advance

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  9 месяцев назад

      I'd go by the advice of your trichologist, but my own opinion is that I'd be skeptical that one dose of dutasteride would cause this. If it is related, it probably would get better with continued use.

    Hi Kevin, 11 months on finasteride. Thought i made good gains on it. Got in insane shed just before i started taking finasteride. Nearly 1 year later i am shedding Crazy again. But this Time Just on medication. I lost some ground.
    Its my first (and really Long) shed on finasteride. The hair thats falls out is really long. I shedded Last year the same Time Frame but without medication. Last year my shed ended in ~November. Should i wait or Switch something up? Thanks Kevin 😢

      It could be a seasonal shed. Are you minoxing it? That might help if you're not already using it.
      If things do not improve in a month or two then I'd say it is time to join the dutasteride master race.

    Hey Kevin, Ive been taking finasteride since november 2022 and minoxidil since like 6 months, I had really good initial success after a shed with minoxidil but im experienced a second strong shed rn, the hair im shedding are long and short so I dont see a pattern, is this normal?

      If you see follicles miniaturizing - growing back with shorter, thinner hairs, or not growing back - then maybe increase the finasteride dose or switch to dutasteride. But don't worry about shedding as long as there is still density on the scalp.

      Sheds can happen multiple times. Hair growth across the scalp isn't synchronized so there will be some parts that shed more than others at different times. You could also be experiencing a seasonal shed, don't worry about it.

      It's not necessarily going to get worse on finasteride. You may end up doing something surgically about it whether or not you start finasteride.

    Why risk it?
