    I started fin in april after many months of being afraid of it. It's not a candy, I understand it. It works becauase it's strong and switches body chemistry a bit, natural remedies sucks in treating hair loss. I take 1,25 mg every other day. Looks fine so far. I also take strong SSRI so I was in a risk of sides for sure. If it gets worse, I will switch to topical and other options like clascoterone. I wouldn't give up on hair, they are crucial part of my image and I feel much more confident with it than with shinny scalp. I had suffered for two long years from seborrheic dermatitis, and since I have started with finasteride (1mg/day), my skin disease has drastically decreased. This because the production of sebum is strictly correlated with DHT, and if you are suffering, as I was, of hyperproduction of it, then Finasteride is an excellent alley. Of course, I made these choices while I was followed by my trichologist, also because I was starting to see the first hair loss signs.

    • @elshanks1578
      @elshanks1578 4 года назад

      So are you implying finasteride can be seen as the best course of action in terms of a treatment for seb derm? I suffer from it as well so I want your take on the issue. I heard accutane is also a good solution for seb derm due to it decreasing sebum levels, which is the main food source for mallesezia, (the cause of seb derm). Do you think I would be killing two birds with one stone if I take finasteride for my seb derm and hair loss? Thanks.

    • @filippoiguera3224
      @filippoiguera3224 4 года назад

      @@elshanks1578 I totally recommend you this!
      The cause of the production of sebum is highly influenced by the DHT, by reducing it by 60-70% you alleviate enormously the problem, trust me. My twin brother had the same problem, he has been on fin for 1.5 years, and he reduced the issue. Of course, there are other things that you should under control: I avoid now putting the motorbike helmet after a shower; the wet scalp is an excellent party for Malassezia Furfur, so always dry it a bit to not make it not proliferate. You know ordinary stuff such as green tea, vegetables, no crazy amount of dairy foods, and workout.
      Not to mention that fin has stopped my hair loss to NW 1 for now. I hope I will continue with this trend ( I started that I was 18.5, I am now 20.5).

    • @elshanks1578
      @elshanks1578 4 года назад

      Filippo Iguera Thanks for your input man. I figured as such that finasteride may alleviate the symptoms. I have it on my scalp and face so it’s quite severe however the treatments I use such as azelaic acid seems to keep it in check at times however it still lingers so it is definitely an internal issue. However regarding exercise, I do feel that sweat seems to trigger my seb derm which means cardio for me just causes more problem. Would you say sweat makes it worse for you as well or is it manageable?

    • @filippoiguera3224
      @filippoiguera3224 4 года назад

      @@elshanks1578 Fortunately I only have it on the scalp and a bit behind my ears...my cousin has it on the face too (Yes, unlucky family with DS...)
      I think that the biggest risk of using too many products, I did it, is the "rebound" effect --> if you strip the natural oils from face/scalp, your skin gets fucking angry and decides to produce them even more (because skin thinks that it is needed for protection). So, yes, I remember experiencing itchy sensations at the beginning of my cardio because my skin was super irritated from harsh chemicals of treatments (Nizoral, etc...).
      Takeaways, IMO:
      -Do not wash your scalp with shampoo every day, believe me, in the beginning, you will have shitty greasy hair but then, after 2-3 weeks, your scalp will see that it doesn't necessarily have to produce a huge amount of sebum to protect the "naked" skin. At the same time do not wait more than 3 days to shampoo hair.
      -Sweat is important believe me, do it even though it seems that your skin is crazy with it. That's because your skin maybe is a bit red for the above-mentioned issues.

Erectile dysfunction and when I do orgasm, it's completely minus the normally accompanying feeling. Mood has generally deteriorated over the month as well and I dont feel as motivated or happy as normal - very grey and just... blank. Same but I was using 1mg. Wish I at least started with .25mg. I've had testicular pain on my left one recently for a couple days and which was the main reason for quitting it 5 days ago. I also noticed my sex drive go down dramatically. Morning woods were gone, but seem to be slowly returning after quitting for these past days. I no longer got those semi hards from looking at hot women, or imagining things I know turn me on. I've been trying recently not to jerk but fin made me have to to see side effects. It was much more difficult to get myself going, thinking to myself "Am I actually struggling to get turned on right now?" In fact, I can physically feel some sort of "block" in my pelvic region. Like as soon as I begin getting turned on, I usually feel the sensation that shoots from my head into my penis get blocked somewhere in my pelvis region. Like it disperses into my pelvis, when it used to shoot straight to the tip of my penis. Idk if anyone gets it but it's definitely because of fin. I'm done with fin, and hopefully all of these side effects will be gone soon. I will say it has definitely stopped my hair loss though, if you care.
      I suggest anyone considering finasteride to start with .2mg or even .15mg. See if it works, see if you have sides. If no sides, and no stopping of hair loss, then increase the dose slowly until it works. If it works but you eventually get sides, then you can decide if it's worth riding out. Me personally I'm not going to "fight through it" and see if I come out better. Testicular pain, lower libido, watery semen, and effort-based erections are enough for me.

    • @carvedouttastone
      @carvedouttastone 4 года назад

      Yes, it's not like I even mentally identified or thought about the reported side effects because I was reassured by Kevin's videos that the negatives associated with Finasteride were over exaggerated. My sex drive is alwys usually in hyperdrive and never had issues with morning wood. Now both are nonexistent. I'm trying not to focus or associate the coincidence that it might be related to Finasteride, but one month deep, shit seems to be getting worse, not better - with my mood crumbling for ZERO reason, it's disconcerting to say the least.

    Kevin I have three questions for you: 1- Do you think hair follicles actually die off? 2- At what point of baldness would you think someone should not continue with hair loss prevention? I know we all hate the “ just shave it bro” but at some point I think we would need to just face the fact if we couldn’t get a hair transplant or hairloss prevention wasn’t working. 3- So is there a way to test things like RU like some sort of test kit? I know they make them for steroids compounds. I recently ordered some RU and took a hard look at it and decided just to throw it away.. to me it just isn’t worth taking something that you really have no idea what it really is. I actually got my credit card stolen from the same place I ordered my RU from and was charge $1200 and it was a popular place people get there RU from. So a place that would steal your card info seems to me they wouldn’t make legitimate stuff. Thanks keep up the good content

    • @kingali1606
      @kingali1606 4 года назад +2

      1. No, hair follicles never actually die. Men who are transitioning into females on intense hormone therapy have gotten remarkable hair re-growth even after being apparently bald for many years. Watch MPMD's video for more info here: ruclips.net/video/dVqTM9iohT4/видео.html
      2. You never have to give up your hair, there's always SOMETHING you can do about it and there's no reason you have to "just accept" going bald. Although if you'd rather go bald and don't care much for your hair, then there's nothing wrong with that either.
      3. RU-58841 is an experimental treatment meant for your research subject. Testing for RU-58841 stopped abruptly during phase 3 clinical trials and a myriad of excuses ranging from lack of funding, low shelf-life, and safety and efficacy concerns have been suggested as likely culprits. Although, there have been some people who have claimed it's helped them, you should use it at your own risk and see whether or not it works for you. Also i'm intrigued as to what marketplace you purchased RU from that stole your credit card info?
      Usually grey marketplaces such as TheKaneShop don't use credit cards and have you purchase items via Bitcoin or some other cryptocurrency.

    Hey Kevin! I've been following you for a while now, needed some advice from you.
    Well, I started taking Propecia (1mg a day) when I was 17 years old and started using minoxidil when I was 16. My dermatologist suggested that using a combination of these two will definitely halt my hair loss and perhaps regrow some hair. I am 20 years old now, its been almost 3 years and I continue to suffer from MPB and my hairline has receded drastically. I went from NW1.5 - NW2 (17-year-old) to NW3.5 at least ( 20- year- old) in a span of 3 years.
    I started showing early signs of baldness at age 15, which I think is pretty rare. I can say for sure that my MPB is very aggressive. My grandfather and my dad started balding around the same age and reached NW4-NW5 by the age of 25.
    Even though a part me knows that going bald is inevitable for me, I continue to take Propecia 1mg a day and use minoxidil 10% every other day with little to no side effects ( sometimes slight headache, dandruff, etc). I also use anaphase shampoo for hair loss (my dermatologist suggested).
    There were months where I tried taking 2mg Propecia a day ( 1mg every 12hours), but it really didn't stop my hair loss.
    Any advice for a person suffering from super aggressive MPB?
    Thanks a lot!

Still inhibits close to 70% of serum dht. Dutasteride will inhibit 90-95%. Dut + transplant may be your only viable option given that you're so young and its happening so fast. Although youll be hard pressed to find any transplant surgeon who will operate on someone under 25 years old.

    Hey Kevin, thanks for the great content as always. If concern about long-term side effects of Finasteride were only limited to neurotic forum users, then I would shrug them all off as you suggest. However, why is it there are a number of medical doctors on the PFS website and in general (i.e. Dr Andrew Rynne was on TV here in UK not long ago) advising against its usage and propagating the idea of serious long-term sides? That is what makes me uncomfortable, not website forums. Medical doctors.

    Kevin, serious question about hair loss that perhaps you can speculate on. Do you think hair follicles recover after getting hit with DHT? Ideally, if someone is covering 66% of DHT with finasteride, then one would think that means they have delayed their hair loss 2x as long. However, perhaps when hair follicles are receiving dosages of DHT that aren't as severe are able to recover and last even longer. What do you think?

    You're a phenomenal ambassador for the hair loss community. May I ask - you mentioned in response to another comment of mine that, because my hair loss has continued despite taking/using finasteride and minoxidil for 2 years+, I should wait until my hair loss has stabilised before getting a hair transplant. Waiting until my hair loss has stabilised using pharmaceuticals and then getting a hair transplant would be something I would like to do. HOWEVER, my hair loss shows no signs of stabilising (despite me using pharmaceuticals for 2 years). What would you recommend I do as a result?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  4 года назад +1

      Thank you kindly. Its pretty unusual that your hair loss would be getting worse even on both finasteride and minoxidil. Are you sure its not just an aggressive shed or are you actually noticing your hairline receding further for instance? Sometimes when we start the fight against hair loss we become more conscientious of things like natural hair turnover which everybody has because of the follicular growth cycle.
      I would talk to a hair transplant surgeon and see if you're a good candidate for a transplant. He can assess the quality of your donor area and he can buff up the areas that are sensitive to counteract future damage if it indeed happens.

Hoping it’s a mature hairline as thinning started happening on my left temple, right, and now middle. Seems like my hairline is on its way to receding. My thinning also seems to exceed to the middle of my head as well. Hopefully it may just be some other reason but I’m not too sure. Thanks for the advice, I think I’ll just take vitamins, try to eat healthy and masturbate less as I’ve noticed it boosts my testosterone. Doesn’t work for me personally because I’m in a VERY small and very shite minority of people in which we have a reaction called “Reflex Hyperandrogenicity”. Any sort of antiandrogenic medication I take results in either my androgens being upregulated, or my androgen sensitivty increasing. I’m currently trying topical finasteride 0.05 percent. Don’t think it’s working because I’m getting the same reaction, but I’m sticking with it for a bit and will update. The next thing I try will be fluridil.
    Edit: Topical fin sucked and it kicked my RH into overdrive. However there is a BRIGHT silver lining: in my desperation, I tried Ketoconazole and it actually WORKED. While I am dealing with RH right now, it and minoxidil have all but completely reversed my hair loss. Even my retrograde alopecia. I no longer have diffuse thinning. Anywhere. However because my RH is acting up right now, due to me trying dutasteride again recently, the effects don’t last that long and my texture starts changing to be dry and brittle as soon as keto’s half life expires, the burning/tingling sensation starts again as well. I did recover from RH once before so I’m hoping I can do it again and hopefully Keto will be even more effective afterwards.

    Kevin, thanks for your videos. Very informative. Q: I understand Finasteride is contraindicated for pre-menopausal women who are pregnant or "may become" pregnant-- but what does that latter part mean exactly? Does it mean pre-menopausal women should *never* become pregnant after using Finasteride if they cease taking the drug a few months before conceiving-- or does it just mean pre-menopausal women who are actively trying to become pregnant should avoid it to prevent its tetragenic effects and all other pre-menopausal female users should use contraception while taking Finesteride to avoid accidental pregnancy for the same reason? I thought Finasteride had a short half life in the body (less than 8 hours) and few if any lasting effects in otherwise healthy people. Is there any evidence, even anecdotally, of pre-menopausal women who stopped Finasteride and later conceived having children with any developmental disorders (physical or mental) possibly linked to past Finasteride use by the mother? Are there any animal studies that could shed light on that? Thanks again for all the great information!

      It just means women shouldn't use it if they have a possibility of becoming pregnant because finasteride can cause birth defects. In the years before menopause, when estrogen levels drop and FPHL starts for many who are predisposed, the chance of conception is 1%, which is lower than if on birth control (3%), but an otherwise healthy woman can still carry a child with medical intervention. The question is- does a woman have to choose between having hair or having children?

      @@gdoreen75 Late reply, but you can totally stop the medication for a couple of months prior to trying to conceive, like you would do with birth control and other D or X rated medications, IVF or not. It doesn’t permanently affect your ability to conceive a healthy child, just as long as it is in your system, doctors ask for a couple of months just as a precaution. It doesn’t change your body’s capability of bearing a male fetus, it’s just that the hormones it temporarily blocks are important for male fetuses development. Once you stop it, you’re back to normal. Many women interrupt treatment during the entire pregnancy/breastfeeding process and then go back to treatment. The major drawback is simply what you’d lose from that time off the medication, hair density wise.

    Hey Kevin I’m on 1 mg finasteride a day and want to add a topical anti androgen just for extra protection as ease of mind. Do you think topical finasteride or alfatradiol would be better? (Until breezula is out)

      Topical finasteride would probably be pointless if youre already at a dose of 1mg/day oral. Alfatradiol or RU58841 might show some results. Some people also use ketoconazole.. although the evidence on that is not really concrete. Many dermatologists recommend revivogen (a natural compound) but it may not be really that effective.

    I have tried to use finasteride two times, but I´va had itchiness in the body, seems like I am hypersensitive to it, but my dermatologist tells me to keep going with the treatment, but I fear it could cause damage on kidneys or something
