I have lost 40 lbs in 4 months. I started cutting out sugar then I watch a video from Robert Lustig which changed my whole perspective. I bought his book Metabolically. Then I started intermittent fasting and walking. I will never eat the same again. Thanks for having these informational videos, you are changing the lives of so many

Congratulations, thats awesome. I did the same 3 1/2 years ago. Lost more than 90 lbs, been able to maintain my weight loss. I've been doing what you're doing, no soft drinks, no sugar, no highly processed foods. Intermittent fasting, eat whole/living foods , and exercise I enjoy, walks, biking, getting into weights/resistance training now. It becomes a very sustainable lifestyle and you feel amazing doing it. I'll never go back...

I went from 280 lbs. to 194 lbs. in 6 and a half months and almost every day in that time I drank orange juice, apple cider, ate high sugar yogurt and fruit mainly grapes, and ate rye bread. What I did cut out was drinking massive amounts of juice with high fructose corn syrup, Coke with high fructose corn syrup, fast food and TV dinners, I was consuming all these things almost every day for many many years. I also cut WAY back on ice cream and the Italian ices, Snickers bars & all that. My heart trouble is past me so I'm drinking Coke again but never the cans with corn syrup it's always the glass bottles and I'm doing the pizza again, I make my own at home so I'm back up to 225 but that sure beats my all time peak weight of 285!! this weight is manageable.

Try starting your day with green tea. Decades ago Dr. Perricone the skin doctor was on PBS stating flatly "lose 6 pounds in 6 weeks just switching from coffee to green tea in the morning". Now the market swims with "theanine" supplements etc. The stuff is medicine. PS you can still drink coffee later. 2 days a week I do the 24-hour fast (you just eat dinner one meal) with green tea AM black tea or coffee PM instead of eating. BTW I sweeten it with honey, use almond-milk derived creamer, the powdered artificials are one of the worst things you can put in your body. Yes going no sugar is best but if you skip the solid food it still works. (Don't eat ANY junk though, that means the "ultraprocessed" that is what is killing people--and the government gives EBT benefits for it! Subsidized Twinkies and Cheetos!)

There is newish research (that seems solid) on c15 fatty acid deficiency. So c15 is an essential fatty acid. If you are short of dietary c15 it can cause metabolic syndrome. So anyway c15 is mainly obtained by dairy. The best sources are cheese, butter, cream and fatty yoghurt. I’m not discounting Robert lustig as he is definitely correct. Sugar and alcohol in excess are terrible for your health. It’s just that c15 deficiency is also terrible for health. This is interesting because even if you cut out sugar and alcohol you could still end up with major metabolic issues if you are malnourished regarding c15.
Anyway maybe you eat a kilo of pecorino cheese per day in which case this info is of no use to you! But if you don’t eat much dairy then give it a shot!

The stuff about the sugar, processed foods and liver troubles makes so much sense to me. We had a relative pass away last year from liver failure after living with liver failure for years and all everyone who didn’t know him could ask was, was he an alcoholic or heavy drinker, and everyone who did know him couldn’t understand it cos he’d never drank or smoked etc a day in his life. The trouble was that he lived off processed food and sugary drinks. He either drank strong tea with 2 sugars, or he drank Coca Cola, and he lived off meals like the stuff you’d find on kids menus at restaurants or takeaways, or it’d be McDonald’s or Burger King. It was always sausage chips and beans, burgers chips and beans, sausages mash and gravy occasionally, pizza and chips, and then his pack ups for work would be ham or chicken sandwich with several bags of crisps, chocolate bars and all that stuff. I couldn’t understand why no one else could make the connection if I’m honest. All of this stuff really changed my attitude towards my kids meal options when we’d go out to eat too, and so they’d be sharing an adults meal between them rather than get them something from the kids menu. I think it’s time to reacquaint myself with this information in more detail. I can’t do much for myself now to the extent I did when I lost a lot of weight before cos of my physically disabilities now affect me and how it prevents me from cooking etc. it’s nice to know I haven’t been going crazy all this time. Anyway, rambling over 😂!

Eleminated from my diet added sugar products, thru out from my kitchen everything that contains added sugars, "natural flavors", colors, preservatives. Use only cold pressed unfiltered vegitable oils and butter, eat fruits in moderation, lots of cheese. I try to walk fast about 3-4 miles, sometimes twice a day, and go to the gym. So yes fasting sensibly is a great tactic in my view and has worked for me BIG TIME...

@@Healthwarning-ry9ql Insulin is a well regulated hormone that is released in very specific amounts according to the food’s glycemic index. So only when the food reaches the digestive tract and bloodstream will certain chemical reactions occur and notify the pancreas as to how much insulin to release. If we use artificial sweeteners that contain zero sugar insulin cannot be released. Also, if a person is healthy and does not have diabetes 1 or 2, there’s no need to worry about insulin. It’s a natural hormone response in order to drive sugar and nutrients into the cell. Some foods have a higher glycemic index and will cause more insulin to be released then it normalizes itself. There’s no crash and there’s no excess hunger after you eat something sweet. The only time that’s harmful is if you are ingesting continuous and enormous amounts of glucose through out the day. There’s chemical reactions that occur in bloodstream that signal the pancreas to produce insulin. It’s more regulated than that. That’s why every food has its own glycemic index.

It's the 'simple carbs' here ..END OF ....with the saliva turning it to nothing more than pure sugar in the mouth and stomach...
The miller's are the killers here IMHO ( processed food )
Control the insulin resistance and you're done....I eat fat protein fibre and complex carbs only now ..
I've lost over 60lb gradually in 5 years ...have no more than 2 eating events in a day ... I'm now 67 and feel like I did when I was 30 ...I was on all sorts of meds... trying to apply the sticking plaster of meds to control a sugar and carb addition ....
It's not rocket science...fuel your body on glycogen ( your livers sugars made from body fat ) not dietary sugars from simple carbs ..
We are an old design body structure trying to operate on a new fuel in a modern lifestyle and it doesn't work well...
I don't know why they call big people fat ... they should call them 'carbed' Dietary fat is not fattening if there is little insulin ( the fat storage hormone ) in the bloodstream at the same time...
    Thanks doc... great interview...
I'm a retired food and bev lecturer...so have an avid interest now in nutrition .... would LOVE to do a podcast with you if it helps.... Keith M.

Many years I'll go I would drink diet pop thinking that it would stop me from wanting to eat. But that didn't work and I quickly found out that I needed to just not drink that crap. For many many years I have not drank any kind of Pop once in a great while like maybe once every 3 years I might have a half a can of pop/soda with sugar. Unfortunately I eat way too much sugar. I never use artificial sweetener ever since I learned how bad it was for you I hate something that tastes terrible and might kill you

I d like to thank you, Dr. Chatterjee and Dr. Lustig for having inspired me 6 months ago. I have lost 24 kilogrammes (20% of my body weight) and life is excellent. Yes, coming over the first 3 weeks of was horrible (cravings!) but afterwards indeed you feel empowered. Congrats also to all commenters that had comparable success

I drink diet soda and have always felt it was my dessert. I NEVER overate when drinking diet soda. I have to wonder if it really happens as often as they say. I have no cravings when I drink diet soda. I guess it can work both ways.

I used to drink diet soda but quit them about 6 years ago the thing I noticed is when drinking them I was always hungry but now not so much because I drink water instead and it made a big difference and also stopped having migraines.

There are, just as many studies that show diet drinks improve weight regulation. Dr. Lustig has an agenda.
Probably it depends. For some it's better for others it isn't. Either way, drink more water.

He is so arrogant I don’t like listening to him. Also he knows a whole food plant exclusive diet is the best!! Keto is so unhealthy very bad for diabetes you know fat is the main culprit more than bad carbs !
