Patching the hole in blues wall with your own gate was such a galaxy brain move. The castle was just a distraction, he came there to patch the wall up so later on it'd give Blue the false sense of secured and walled base, just what he needed to sneak TKs in and turn the game around.
Blue has always been a pawn on Ace's 4d chess board.
A 650 stone mind game.

Yeah I was considering the game was over early and then T90 went and watched some other replays of ACE to see if they did it every game.
The gate between the enemy's walls is hilarious.
And that it was used by red afterwords too... It created a sense of false security for blue, and then the teutonic knights just marched right on through...

Those 2 vills are honestly the mvps of the match! They built 2 castles behind enemy lines plus some archery ranges AND the stone gate all after evading those xbows! And after mining a chunk of the enemy’s back gold! WHAT??!!

When he converted the battering ram, I knew it was instant legend status
For me it was when he researched Redemption. I immediately knew what was about to happen.
The map is such a fortress-driven map, that it's counter intuitive to use the base as bait. By the time blue showed at the base, red had already been spreading. Awesome Game and casting. 😉
Do you think his massive untouched home gold pile was bait? Deliberate?
@@Jimmy911ism probably not the gold in specific...i think red was banking on blue thinking he was just going to be at his base booming (mainly due to the setup of the map), but little did he knew...

this game was almost more entertaining than the hidden cup finals :D in a very different way, though. As a low-elo-player myself, I really appreciate watching this kind of gameplay.
This game is a emotional roller coaster
They don't put a TC next to the monastery with relics in it so the opponent doesn't find the monastery as easily x D this is the most pessimistic player I've ever seen, they assume Everything that can go wrong, Will go wrong, & have a plan in place to cope already

What’s funny is at some point later blue had seen most of map except like that one corner. He possibly could have thought, “this map has relics... where are they?!” But I know ace gave him so much stuff to try to follow
Ace's strategy of taking all the map resources is legitimately what I would go for if I played AoE2.
Edit: Nevermind. Everything about Ace's strategy would be how I would play. Though I'd probably add some towers.

I think the idea is "take all the resources before they're contested, survive your opponents' initial attack and burn through their units, then when they finally go expansionist, there's nothing to expand into and I can spam out castles and gold intensive units."

I come back to this video every couple months. It's always incredible, but it finally hit me tonight what Ace's style reminds me of. What blue must have been feeling.
You know that feeling you get when you play against AI, where you're just constantly one-upping them and countering their every move. You're so outpacing the computer player that you're just building stuff in their base and clowning on them.
That's what Ace's style is. He was just playing with blue, like blue was just a computer opponent.
Ace is amazing, no doubt. But I kinda feel sorry for blue (I would be REALLY frustrated if I were him), he almost did his best there for a player with ~700 elo.
Ace is like a reverse MbL where they just cockroach through the game but they also build a ton of houses early on to prevent getting housed

I admit having the same thought of sneaking out to take the exposed resources early in other RTS games.
Tbf, it does probably work a bit vs lower competition levels. Those opponent-levels are not as good at scouting, so there is a good chance they won’t correctly guess which sector of the map has your exposed gatherers to find it, or at least not before you’ve taken most of the resource. But now that auto-scout is a thing, it’s less likely to work.
This game really did keep on giving the whole way through.

53:17 Here we witness a rear bug, where a siege weapon coverted to the other side loses its' uprgades, if assigned to the other duty (because red doesn't have siege ram researched, but only simple rams).

During my darkest days I think back to reds gate and it never fails to make me laugh

I think in the meta of LEL or even 700 ELO, early aggression is rare on a map like this, meaning there's much lower deterrent to actually going out and taking those resources from your opponent.

Well played to both players. It infuriated me that blue didnt tske out red's TC and military buildings right after taking out the castle in red's base. If blue would've done that and scouted, he would've won.

At 19:22, Red could take all his vils, send them to blue's base, rip down the wall, and drop a castle, then two more castles.
The one thing this game is missing is Spies. At its lowest it would cost 800 gold, and he had over 2k.
