      Mind blowing comment. I think I had a Randall from 2007/2009 or so with V30's. I hated it with my 5150. It was overly harsh sounding. I always wanted a more clearer, chimey but still high gain sound. Great tone you dialed in here man!

    Any legit reason for the misleading title? I'm missing the part where Celestion ENDED the Vintage 30. You do a very thorough demonstration which has value and that might make me subscribe to see your other content....but the 'bait and switch' titles so many channels use to boost views is a deal breaker for me. If you're going for a sensational clickbait title, why hold back? Why not 'Celestion's new MONKEY SKIN cone material'?

      The Creamback Ms are about the only new speaker from them I've heard that I like as much as the vintage Greenbacks. They don't have that sweet top end breakup thing going on that Pulsonic Greenbacks have, but they sound amazing. For modern metal they rule. I'd like to slap a pair of these V30s in the cab with them. I was hesitant because I actually have six UK V30s, but I don't like those at all as they're too dark, but I also hate the spike in the ear sound of what we've gotten the last ten years out of the V30. This is really encouraging. I'd previously had a Rivera cab from the 90s with the most amazing V30s I've ever heard. Unfortunately my guitarist ruined them and I had to have them reconed, and they never sounded the same. These 2022s sound like what I remember. Damn!

Also this is how you can figure a good tone. With actual chords and licks, not with senseless fiddly biddly. Now please pair the new V30 with a Greenback.Greetings from Germany
    P.S.: how dare you testing a brand new speaker?! They're supposed to be broken in for 209654h. /Sarcasm

      I would have said the same thing about speaker break in but I bought a new amp for the first time in 20 yrs and it definitely didn't sound like it did when I tested it until about two weeks later. It definitely smoothed out a bit.

      No need for sarcasm, breaking the speakers in makes a very noticable difference. Thats not even a discussion actually.

    • @godofspacetime333
      @godofspacetime333 Год назад

      @@Stpddmbfckit should be a discussion. I’ve never seen any tests done that show any difference before and after. The only one I can find shows no difference after burn-in, and the differences between the “burnt-in” speaker and the control stayed the same.
      Everyone’s got a story about how their new speakers sounded like shit but slowly got better and now they love them, but until I see any actual shred of evidence I’m chalking that up to people just getting familiarized with how those speakers sound.
      I thought my studio monitors sounded dull and muddy when I got them and I couldn’t mix particularly well on them, but after about 20-30 hours using them I think they sound great and my mixes have improved dramatically. The thing is, the speakers were used when I got them and already well-worn.

    I think it’s a carryover from players who have live rigs vs. studio players. A mid focused 30 is what you need to push a crowd in the face, and I’d take a MUSTAINE 1960DM cab loaded with 30’s all day on stage… Yet, i agree, when tracking my guitars, a 30 impulse is my last choice. 😮

    • @Lewis_Emblack
      @Lewis_Emblack 2 года назад +1

      I find that a few V30 impulses sound great but most have that harshness, and I could never figure out how IR's with the same cab, speakers and mics could sound so totally different - it makes sense now that the few great ones were likely done with pre-2006 speakers and the rest done with post-2006.

    I have a 90's V30 sitting in a closet that I plan to put into an Egnater Rebel 1×12 cab.
    I also used to have one from sometime after 2010 that I put into a Marsball 2x12 cab with the 90's one. When I sold the cab, I put back one of the Seventy Eighty speakers it came with and then kept the 90's speaker.
    I always assumed the difference in the speakers was due to the 90's one being more broken in.
    My other cab has 2x10 in the top and another 90's v30 in the bottom. This is the most amazing cab I have ever owned. The 10's are some sort of Eminence speaker. The pairing with the V30 makes for a very thick and detailed sound.

    Most of us call a voice coil cover the dust cap. Yes, think of it like a dome midrange fairly well glued to the voice coil, it radiates the mid and high frequencies just like a dome midrange. If it is hard and not well damped it will break up harshly with wide peaks and dips in the response, well damped and it can provide a smooth response.

    I got this reply from Thomann now:
    Dear Customer,
    thanks for the inquiry!
    There are no chnages on the Vintage 30 speakers.. see reply from celestion:
    " There is an ill-informed video out on RUclips, which at the end says how wonderful the ‘New’ Vintage 30’s are. He thinks there has been a recent change to the dustcap.
    There are no changes to the design or the components of the Vintage 30. The dustcap has been the same for years. There are a few speakers still out there from 15 or so years ago that sound different from what people might expect. But thanks to ever tighter quality control that no longer happens, the video simply illustrates that if you buy a new one, it’s going to sound great, and exactly the way it should sound."
    So what are we suppose to believe? It clearly sound better in your video

    If this is completely true it explains a lot and has cost me money. I've been veering away from the v30s for the last 20 years. And this seems to be the reason why. I went on to many other speakers.being old I played through many of V30 and just could not figure out what was going on with my ears.then I thought it was just me or memories of better times.All crap..but I'm going to give these new ones a try... So this is a fairly educated comment....thanks for your video

    The difference in tone isn’t the dust cap materials. It’s paper pulp the cones are made of. Have you seen many trees in mainland China? Exactly! Those speaker 🔈 cones are probably being made from recycled paper, old fortune cookies papers and pulverized chop sticks. You recone them with quality made in the USA parts….the tone will return!

    There's actually several kinds of v30's, even being made today. You've got your regular v30's which eventually moved production to China. Then the Marshall vintage 30, which is supposedly true to the very earliest v30 iterations, still and always was UK made. Then you've got the Mesas, custom made for Boogie to their own specs and slightly different sound, UK made.

    I just got a Harley Benton 2x12 vintage. I've pulled it apart to rebuild/improve the cabinet. After watching this I had to go and check the speakers....

    I know you have been talking about moving away from from the stock V30 tone and recently did a video with mojo tone speakers and my custom cab maker has a really unorthodox pairing. In my 2x12 he put Mojotone Vintage (V30 knock off) and a Mojotone Anthem ("Fender style" knock off). The combo is pretty cool, the frequency response of each speaker is so different that they fill out each other so well. I also just like the idea of mixing "American" voiced speakers with "British" voiced speakers to get a well rounded tone. Its a cool idea to get away from the straight V30 tone.

    I've written to celestion on more than one occasion about how their V30's don't sound like they used to, asking what changed... and I've gotten nothing but shit from them, with them telling me there is no difference, that they've always made them the same way, and that they sound the same as they always have... Celestion has always been ridiculously frustrating to deal with on anything I've ever contacted them for over the years, and their response about the V30's was frustrating to no end when anyone familiar with the V30 can hear they changed and started sounding muffled as hell somewhere in that 14-16 year-ago area...
    So, thanks for confirming the early V30's that Celestion made their reputation on did, in fact, sound better, had more clarity, more bite, more tightness in the bottom end, etc.
    ...and thanks for the update that their new V30 3903A version sounds close to what the original ones did again, along with the demo, so we could hear it.
    Maybe I can finally get a V30 that sounds the way it's supposed to in my amps again... of course, the trick is going to be finding someone who's actually got the new versions... and dealing with the price increase.

    I stopped using vintage 30's a long time ago like 94, as the cones rubbed inside the coil guide. Sounded like scraping when mic'ed. I tried 4 new out of the box and ran 48 hour break in at 25 watts with various frequency ramps. 2 of them didn't improve. I gave them to someone who didn't mind the sound. Hopefully these will be super improved and bring back the brand line.
