yeah, they threw that one away.. getting greedy for the following year.. I'm sure he could of nailed it had they worked on the car rather than dumped all work into a unknown venture.
Such a shame BMW Sauber decided to work on the 2009 car and leave the current one aside... He could've won the title... I still wish, as a Pole, that he will race just one more time, just one!
When I look back at 2008, 2 things come to mind that should have happened but didn't, the first is BMW Sauber threw away a golden opportunity to win the title (like you said) by stopping development of that car early to start on 2009 and I think you're right, with the way Kubica was driving that year, he would've been the one challenging, although Heidfeld was a match for him on pace I don't think he was as consistent. The second is the way Ferrari started to develop the car to help Massa out of his early season difficulties greatly hindered Raikkonen with that car, it would have been awesome to see Raikkonen and Kubica battling it out for the title. I don't want to take anything away from Massa by the way, he deserved the title over Hamilton that year after the way it went, but that's another story.
єzαу its one of those moments everyone will look back on and wish it was different but hindsight is very much 20/20. If the 2009 car was good then it would be a different story, bmw could never know what would happen
+Kieran Bennett That is true, but this is Formula 1, when you're presented with a opportunity to win a championship you take it with both hands, BMW were rightly criticised at the time for stopping development early because it was a strange decision to make when you're leading the championship. Whichever way you look at it they screwed up and then even more so because the 2009 car was such a dog.
D.J. Veenma-Wilson could you elaborate on what you stated at the end of your first comment? What do you mean by "Massa deserving the title over Hamilton after the way it went" ?
Does anybody know after what race they stopped development? I remind their strong pace in the America Races (Kanada and Indianapolis, where they were closly matched with Ferrari and McLaren). So it must be in the 1st half of the season.
Got to say though, most of his highlight moments were partly because his tire's conditions were more advantageous than others. (Not just in the '08 Canada GP, but also in Singapore '10) Otherwise, he was stuck on midfield due to his car. And then there's Monaco 2010. That REALLY stood out.
+Engineer 314 You forgot about Australia 2010, Monaco 2008(where Kubica should win because he had perfect race but Hamilton had big luck there), Japan 2008(where BMW not developing car), Belgium 2010, Japan 2010 in quali with this Reanult and a few more.
That was my point. TBH, I didn't see that much of Kubica's races. That comment I made was just from '08 Canada and Singapore. I guess that's one other thing that made Kubica so great. He knows how to manage his tires and get the most out of them to get to higher grid positions. But '10 Monaco is, arguably, his best highlight, seeing that you can't really fluke good qualifying times driving not so great cars.
I don't think he's underrated. Pretty much anyone who was following F1 back then agrees he would be a championship contender if not for his rally accident.
This man is one of the best drivers in the world. Thank you Liberty Media for making such a great videos about Robert but for fu#$ sake pull some strings and let this man drive! Forza Kubica!
Yeah what kind of strings they should be pulling? You realise that they are just owning commercial side of F1 and they are responsible for showing events to wider public? They don't owe Williams, they don't have any power over them and they cant really do anything about Robert position within the team. Truth is that Robert is not great choice for Williams at this stage. Chances he will take them anywhere over 9th position in constructors are none existing and of course fans want to see him race but that would not help Williams at all. They are getting a lot of money from Sirotkin and Stroll sponsors for their seats and that's the kind of money that they wouldn't be able to make in positions even if they had Vettel and Hamilton at this stage. So regardless of how we fans feel they cant really afford to throw away tens of millions of euros and have no money to develop future car just to satisfy what fans want to see.
Before Liberty Media there was a man called Bernie Eclestone. There are many books and materials to learn from about Bernie's achievements and "power" in F1 world. Im not talking about Williams.. As a big fan of Robert im very happy that he is not racing in that car. He deserve better car and team. "even if they had Vettel and Hamilton" ? Wtf? You are comparing Vettel to Kubica? You can compare Kubica to Alonso or Hamilton but Vettel? Please.. Bravi and Co. just bought majority stake in Sauber Team. Więcej wiary i wiedzy życzę
i feel for him when he said people mostly remember lewis' crash.. kubica was first out of the pits, and in racing, accidents happen.. so give credit where credit is due. Kubica won that race fair and square. and his last 10 laps werw brilliant
I'm not an emotional guy but I've nearly cried that day. Such a story and watching his maiden win combined with a brief lead in the championship was something truly special.
10 very fast consecutive laps to get enough time advantage to pit, change tires, refuel and continue racing. Imagine the difference of speed between two cars with different amout of fuel onboard - and different car weight - 10 laps of fuel was about 30 kilograms. That's why most of races in the past were won/lost in pits - sometimes it was faster to pit 3 times for quick refueling, sometimes it was faster to pit just once. It's not like 'modern' races where the only pit reason is changing tires and the time difference is no more than 2 second per lap before and after pitting. Back in 2008, it could be 4-5 seconds per lap.
Basically today's f1 races mostly consist of 1 stopper strategy, fuel, engine, and tyre management so they're easily predicted unlike the old days where you can do quali-like pace during race
kkurzeid Actual arguments in the F1 RUclips channel instead of mindless bashing on the new era even though so far the racing has been great? Blasphemy.
@Samanthaflower before wrc accident he was really good. After his first win in canada he was the leader of the season. To be honest i wish i could see him in better team than he is right now.
Massive respect for this guy, BMW Sauber really screwed up in 2008 by stopping the development of the car early! It's his own fault he injured himself of course, but what a great recovery, I hope he gets a decent drive, if not in F1 then elsewhere, he truly deserves it.
@@DJ.V-W BMW Sauber MAY have gotten Kubica a championship if they kept developing the car, but they went and developed the new car, which kind of ruined it for him, that and if he hadn't spun off in the UK, the stop-go in Singapore and crashed with Nakijima in Australia. They couldn't have won the WCC, of course, but that wasn't BMW's fault - rather, it was the Sauber aerodynamic capabilities that dragged it down... which, ironically, was the reason that BMW ditched Williams in the first place. Ah, well. Williams at least got more than one race victory and got 2nd in the WDC more than once - oh, and without another team being excluded.
Kubica's 2008 was quite a lot like Frentzen's 1999 when you think about it. Both of them were consistently good throughout, both managed to end up on the top step of the podium and both had outside chances of winning the championships, helped by Ferrari and McLaren throwing away lots of points. Such a shame BMW stopped developing the 2008 car mid-season, and an even bigger shame the 2009 car turned out to be an absolute dog.

I know it's very difficult to get a seat in Formula 1, but this man deserves it much more than Stroll, Hartley, even Grosgean this year... people who crashed every race or finish the last.
He really had an Angel on his back that race. I remember it if it was yesterday.....and the first thing I thought was that he was dead in an instant :( Thank god he survived. Really a shame what happend to him a few years later in rally......He was world champion material :)
I was there both years. After the crash in 2007 I wondered if I should leave and never attend an F1 race again as we thought that Robert had perished. Thank goodness smartphones were first out and my friend got the news he was OK. Seeing him comeback and win in 2008, with Polish fans waving their flags and crying with joy around us, was one of the coolest moments I’ve ever experienced with racing. Bravo Robert! A truly inspiring moment and chapter of F1 history.
I must have been a strange kid, because my two fav driver growing up were Ralf Schumacher, and Kubica.. But i will never forget the day when Robert won this grand prix!! It was amazing:))
Boy, those Marshalls were lucky near where the car first hit the wall. In the aftermath. you can see Kubica's feet poking out where the nose of the car has broken off. Amazing that he only suffered a sprained ankle and concussion.
this was the greatest race I've ever seen on my life, both BMW 1st and 2nd, then coulthard on the Redbull and then Timo Glock on the toyota!, what Kubica and Heidfeld did was just unbelievable on a worse car, that championship was very entertaining to watch
To think just 10 years earlier and that crash would have likely killed him. Instead he walked away with a few bruises.Excellent driver, such a shame about his rally crash that ended his F1 career.
It is sad that he crashed in 2007 & which paved way for SEB, now SEB is a 4 times WC while Robert is just a test driver (yes due to his rally accident he is overlooked) but he is a RAW talent.
I'm sure in a parallel universe he is a multi-time F1 world champion.
Sure I'm a 20 time F1 world champion in a alternate universe...

I know it's very difficult to get a seat in Formula 1, but this man deserves it much more than Stroll, Hartley, even Grosgean this year... people who crashed every race or finish the last.
Robert Kubica NEEDS to be back in Formula One! He has way too much talent and would make F1 even greater!
Who is cutting onions😢
Hi @Formula 1 why did you removed video "Robert Kubica moments of brilliance"?
one of my favorite drivers of all time
so much potential
he is a real racer
What a beautiful story. I remember seeing the crash live on tv and feeling horrified, and being again there when he won.
One of the best moments in modern formula 1! I literally have tears in my eyes. You will always be my hero Robert!
May i just say those 2008 cars looked absolutely fantastic.
Oh Willians, I miss you being this good, RK was the best driver they had that never won the Championship
the cars of that time were beautiful
Im proud that this man is from my country.
Kubica was an excellent driver. Very sad what happened with him. Certainly he would have been champion.
He really had an Angel on his back that race. I remember it if it was yesterday.....and the first thing I thought was that he was dead in an instant :(
Thank god he survived. Really a shame what happend to him a few years later in rally......He was world champion material :)
How?? Somebody dislike this video

TheMonty199 everyone knew Kubica was a beast but Ralf ? Really? xD
my older brother was already rooting for Michael, so i figured his younger brother must be the better one.. I was like 4 years old, and wrong :DD
I get so much inspiration from the Kubica story. Surely, I'm not the only one :)
Im brazilian, but i like more kubica style than Senna.... Senna was very impulsive, kubica is so precise and clean driver! Kubica back now!
Some time later... A legend returned...
BMW Sauber was such a great team. Great people like Dr Mario Theissen who always gave interesting interviews on TV. I really enjoyed this phase of F1.
Please give this man a seat on f1!
Boy, those Marshalls were lucky near where the car first hit the wall.
In the aftermath. you can see Kubica's feet poking out where the nose of the car has broken off.
Amazing that he only suffered a sprained ankle and concussion.
I'm proud of Kubica, two films about him in one day :) I hope we will see him in 2019 :) #ForzaKubica
this was the greatest race I've ever seen on my life, both BMW 1st and 2nd, then coulthard on the Redbull and then Timo Glock on the toyota!, what Kubica and Heidfeld did was just unbelievable on a worse car, that championship was very entertaining to watch
Robert is simply THE BEST. I still believe he will be the F1 World Champion. He more than deserves it.
Unbelieveable. Great story, great times, great memories
That BMW Sauber livery is just a masterpiece imo
Even if he comes back he'll not be driving at where we want him to be, his talent was so supreme
wish I could see him this happy one more time, shame that his career stopped so abruptly
I think Robert should be driving and developing the williams. I also have to say when Robert Crashes he does it big time and still smiles.
To think just 10 years earlier and that crash would have likely killed him. Instead he walked away with a few bruises.Excellent driver, such a shame about his rally crash that ended his F1 career.
It just paused his career! :)
Hopefully he can win this year would be awesome 10 years and he is back as a winner again!!!
Somebody has to make a film about him. One of the most promising drivers with such a tragic story. The man who should have been champion.
should enable subtitles in the videos, in LA we also see F1
Meet the Legend name Robert Kubica
Dziękuje Robert. Dużo dla mnie zrobiłeś :) Zapierdalaj po swoje Mistrzu !
My hero ! I still believe and fingers crossed I see you one the track soon.

Brawooo!! Kubica!! Pozdrawiam z brazilii!
Fue una de esas victorias que dejó feliz a todo el mundo. Grandioso, Robert!!!
Great video FORMULA 1. You described it perfectly.
So happy to see him back in an F1 car.
It is sad that he crashed in 2007 & which paved way for SEB, now SEB is a 4 times WC while Robert is just a test driver (yes due to his rally accident he is overlooked) but he is a RAW talent.
