@charles gair ah yes. Acknowledging the fact that almost every government intervention can only be taken back by further government intervention makes me a “trump lunatic”. By the way, when I said I was scared of the government getting stronger, who was president?
AR500 released a video of them shooting a III+ plate backed with IIIA soft armor with .30-06 AP. The round penetrated the plate but was stopped in the IIIA backer. Using soft armor behind your plates is definitely something to consider when building an armor system.
You know that little safety at the end of the nail gun. I was thinking if you welded that to the armed position you could use it as a nail GUN and unload 50 3-1/2inch nails like a boss. And you don't need a license for a nail gun.
+FishFind3000 except that nails tumble almost immediately after leaving the gun and are not very accurate. My carpentry teacher in highschool let us have a Can shooting competition with nail guns. They are very unpredictable

+The Wound Channel without watching your videos I have no idea what you used for a rifle when testing that but I bet it would be safe to say it had a 16" barrel since that is most common. knowing that at those ranges the velocity of 193 out of a 14.5 in barrel is in the 2800-2900 fps range so I wonder if the 14.5 would change the results. i'm curious what the fps threshold is on 193 defeating lvl3

6:48 okay so I’ve got an excellent question in case if you ever do a comment based video again. I love guns, they’re a part of my life. They have been since I was a child. I love the science behind them. Your channel is funny, entertaining, and educational. But one thing I’ve always wondered is why you have to aim LOW if there are no sights attached to a rifle? All sights are elevated to a certain degree, and I feel like with no sights, you shouldn’t have to aim that low because you’re looking down range closer to the actual barrel. So basically, how do scopes and battery powered sights have the ability to perform with more precision, if they’re mounted HIGHER than the barrel? Might be a stupid question, but who gives a damn 😂 love your work bud, you make this whole ammo shortage bs way more bearable. Keep up the great work 👍
They do, but they aren't rated for rounds like these. 9mm maybe. Armored helmets are more for shrapnel from grenades. I've seen demo ranch shoot some, and while they stop small rounds like 22 and 38 spc, they definitely won't save you from any rifle threat.
When you get to that power, the bullet penetration becomes irrelevant. The force of the round hitting will break your skull and/or massive brain damage from blunt force trauma. You're dead either way.
Brian J. Schmidt level IV has a ceramic front to it which breaks up the bullet easier. When that ceramic front breaks from the first round, the plate is way weaker.
I can't get enough of this channel. Ive learned so much. But I have one question. Why are you sitting in a pool with full tactical gear wearing shorts that look like they're from the early 90s?? Hahah

shoot a titanium alloy plate
+Wilbo Baggins Sounds expensive.
yeah i know because its a uncommon material
but i would like to see if it can stop the black tip 30-06 round
Wilbo Baggins Titanium alloy for armor is usually a little less stronger than normal armor steel but far lighter. So at the same thickness as the shown AR500 steel it would not stop it.
but would a grade 38 titanium alloy stop the black tip 30-06???
+Wilbo Baggins
you can stop any bullet, with anything if you have enough of it. yes, including pizza... a 5 foot thick stack of pizzas will stop a rifle bullet :)
so yes, a thick enough titanium plate will stop M2 AP
but let me tell you why you dont want a titanium armor plate.
titanium is an amazing alloy... it does some things really really well. and its still exotic enough that people still think its an "uber" material.
with Ti, you get weight close to aluminum with resilliancy close to steel, its also very resistant to heat.
note I said "close" to the resilliancy of steel... this is important.
steel is an amazing material... it is so commonplace that most folks dismiss it as "pah... its just steel". but I would agree with those who would say that steel was the game changer that ushered in the industrialized era... it was a big deal.
you can harden it, you can soften it, it can bend and flex quite a bit without fatiguing, and you can hit it really hard without shattering or cracking it, its easy to cut, easy to weld, and all of these things can be done in a rural blacksmiths shop with nothing but a forge, and an anvil, a d some basic tools.
Ti is miles more difficult to work with. ergo far more expensive.
ti doesent harden well, and alloys that are hard have a tendency to fatigue or crack which is why Ti makes a lousy knife blade (it wont hold an edge worth a damn for long if its a softer alloy, but harder alloys chip at the edge or snap the blade under heavy use.) certain other metals commonly used in hand tool steel alloys will corrdode titanium (vandium is one of the most common)
its also more prone to cracking than hardened steel, meaning bullets will punch plugs out of it. to avoid this the material will need to be thicker than a similar steel plate of the same protective value, which adds weight... and bulk. so the plate would end up being twice as thick, and nearly the same weight, at 5 times the cost.
basically a Ti plate is not cost effective when compared to steel or ceramics.
the russians (who are sitting on the largest Ti deposits on the planet by the way) tried it back in the 80s for thier small arms protective inserts... they wouldnt stop rifle fire. only fragments and low velocity pistol threats.
you would use Ti in an application where you need heat resistance and light weight, and price is no object.
if you just need light weight, aluminum will probably do
if you need heat resistance, stainless steel alloys will do nicely.
you need both... like parts in a turbine engine for your latest fighter jet? thats what Ti is good for.
another thing Ti is good for is bicycle frames, its lighter than steel, which gives a good ride, but is far more compliant than aluminum which gives a very harsh ride. so you get a nice springy, compliant ride like a cromoly steel tube frame, but a weight similar to an aluminum frame.
at one hell of a rough price tag.
the first one to go through

The cuteness its over 9000!
Holy crap! Lt. Dan looks so clean and healthy!
2:47: (condom joke)

The Dictator Never know in Murica.
+The Dictator Anybody that wants to make sure they don't have problems with meddling kids in AR500 armor.
The Dictator Haha, not me, that's for sure! Like, why would I even do that? All my .30-06 rifles got lost in that tragic boating accident anyway.
Yea! MURICA!!!

You’re the coolest dude on RUclips. Be safe and keep doing your thing.
My team worked with MARSOC in nad i Ali in 2008. Green tip was handed out for our C8’s. Top blokes.
thought i was the only one who loved the smell of my AR15 :p
The day they make a bullet proof helmet
Then ill be impressed
imma little late to repliy
They do, but they aren't rated for rounds like these. 9mm maybe. Armored helmets are more for shrapnel from grenades. I've seen demo ranch shoot some, and while they stop small rounds like 22 and 38 spc, they definitely won't save you from any rifle threat.
When you get to that power, the bullet penetration becomes irrelevant. The force of the round hitting will break your skull and/or massive brain damage from blunt force trauma. You're dead either way.
#kittens4life , Matt could u do something other than ARs (keep up the cool vids)
More boltactions!!!
Or aks. I think I'm the only one that likes aks though.
+DesertEagle117 You're not.
That's good to hear
DesertEagle117 I love aks as well
Great video!!! Just got to say..... You shot the back of the plate! Front toward the enemy!!!
Best guns in order, 12 gauge(with 3 inch slug), 30-06(regular and black tip), and .223( soft point boat tail!)
And level IV is better yet...
AND...you're wrong...educate yourself...
Brian J. Schmidt level IV has a ceramic front to it which breaks up the bullet easier. When that ceramic front breaks from the first round, the plate is way weaker.
Lol plenty of level 4 plates take multiple hits.
IV is actually worse. It uses ceramic. These are steel. Level 4 is rated to stop more, but its mult hit protection is suspect.
@@jerrystickman3343 heavy but might actually be good on my practice.
my nerf gun could penetrate that plate!
same.
Me throwing a grain of sand could have penetrated
Sam Trương OMG HAHA SO ORIGINAL.
+The Divide Original and hilarious.
you posted this comment twice
who else is randomly getting this recommended to them??
I've seen videos of hot M193 5.56 loads from a longer barrel going through level III armor. would be interesting to see if III+ would stop those
Great video,,,,,side by side comparison,, thank you
HMMMMMM.... I wonder where he got the kittens!!! -_-
He's a veterinarian

I like laying in bed all day playing with bunnies... Playboy bunnies...
I can't get enough of this channel. Ive learned so much. But I have one question. Why are you sitting in a pool with full tactical gear wearing shorts that look like they're from the early 90s?? Hahah
Never thought I’d see ya looking so good dan 😭
