Edit: ignore my calculations below. As @seth094978 has rightfully pointed out, the calculations I made did not equate to psi. I had mistaken ft-lbs for pounds of force. I did some further research and found that the maximum pressures of 4 bore and .416 Rigby are 36,259 psi and 47,137 psi, respectively. This does not change my conclusion that the .416 Rigby exceeds the 4 bore in terms of pressure, though my process in coming to that result was flawed. For those wondering, here's a comparison between 4-bore and .416 Rigby. A 4-bore slug is estimated to produce around 7,000 ft lbs of force. With a diameter of 1 inch, this gives it a cross-sectional area of .785 square inches, meaning it produces around 8,900 psi of pressure. A .416 Rigby, on the other hand, produces only 5,115 ft lbs of force. However, with a diameter of just .416 inches, it has a cross-sectional area just shy of .136 square inches. This gives it a whopping 37,633 psi of pressure, over 4 times the pressure of a 4-bore slug. *This* is why it punches straight through the VANT ballistic shield, cinder block and probably another mile of trees and dirt.
I wonder how many of these vests youd even need to stop that thing, i know it was designed in the early 20th century to hunt dangerous game but i feel like they went overboard as if they were hunting dragons
It's also the shape. The more narrow design means it loses far less velocity to wind resistance, and once it makes contact it doesn't transfer nearly as much energy to the target so it just rips right through. Small and fast for penetration, big and slower for destructive force
I can only imagine what a 4-bore dragon's breath round would look like Edit: Im aware that a dragon's breath round is a shotgun round but im sure that its more than possible to make a 4bore round similar to a dragon's breath

I'm not sure if it's legal to do this, but you could definitely fit enough explosive in a 4 bore slug to create a fairly dynamic effect on the target. Even some black powder would be quite dramatic. 😛
Screw legality, safety is the issue. Black powder might be okay. My fear would be using anything hotter than that. We all remember what happened with Scott's 50 cal and that hot round. Perhaps with a shotgun or rifle specifically designed to handle that? Dunno, I'm not a gunsmith.
@@youbetterwakeup2449 his 50 exploded because it had a powder charge which created to much pressure. That has nothing to do with having an explosive projectile, unless it is made so badly that it goes off in your own gun (which is never ok, for any explosive payload) Noone is suggesting to propel the bullet itself with a primary explosive....
Did you see that old inrangetv video with the ww2 explosive ammo? imagine using that stuff, but instead of the payload of a .30 caliber rifle round, you have a 4 bore..... that would be a double-boom stick.
Addicted to this channel, kills me every time. Cheers man. The Honey Badger just shows that velocity is essential but the last cannon was sending that soldier home in plaster.
I think the scariest thing you could do now with that 4-bore round is make a custom round with a Spitzer tip instead of the soft-nose, I think that would likely help with greater penetration power against the Vant shield.
@Phantom-bh5ru That's just too easy though, and we need to maximize the potential of the 4-bore rifle besides. I'm tired of high caliber shoulder fired weapons using soft-nose ammunition and people treating that like it's the pinnacle of that round's performance when there's still clear room for improvement.
@@killiandawson4674 I have an idea. Make it a hollow point with a tungsten sabot right in the middle. If it hits soft target the hollow point would spread out dealing maximum damage. However if it hits armor the tungsten sabot would rip out of the middle and continue forwards.
Changing materials would probably help even more. Lead is TERRIBLE for penetration. A solid brass slug would penetrate much more, even with a round nose. However, it might hurt the barrel and I could understand not wanting to do that witch such an exotic gun. I guess he could get a sub caliber tungsten carbide penetrator and just cast some led around it to fit the bore. The most effective would probably be to make a home made APDS round by grinding on some carbide endmills and building a sabot around it, though getting the sabot right is real hard.
I'm curious if the leg protection would have stopped the 7.62 round if it hadn't already stopped the other rounds. I think the .500 magnum rearranged the plates or whatever is in it, and Scott might have found a lucky hole or crack that allowed the round to go through. I could be totally wrong about that also.
If you ever get chance dude, i think it would be awesome to see a running engine vs the 4 bore! Or see just what a .416 rigby could pass through. Because that round is the sneakiest amongst those huge shoulder cannons 😂😂

If I’m wrong I will admit I’m wrong, but if I’m right he should have to admit he jerked or pulled and hit it where I said where he did!! I love his channel and watch it more than any of those yahoo’s and learned more from Scott than anyone else shooting guns on RUclips…but come on that shot is as plain as TGE nose on your face that it’s not where he marked TGE shield
It looked like the glock40 10mm came out the back also...
Absolutely.
I love the shot on the glass. The .416 is in shot for exactly two frames, and it's already smashing the glass in the second, and the very next frame is just an expanding cloud of white glass dust. It looks that three frames later, the bullet appears on the far side even and keeps on going, disappearing from the field after another four frames, considerably slower, and possibly trailing some kind of ballistic material being carried with it, before the entire field of view just turns white with glass dust. Very impressive.
@Alice-ki7osJesus is Lord and God(big G) of all.
your comment is like ballistic poetry..👌👌
Love the big bores, but I’d also love to see how the shield holds up to 30 rapid fire 7.62x39s
full auto gets demonetized on youtube now, so probably won’t get full auto
@@-joe.mama-what exactly is demonetized mean in the RUclips world, I haven't been able to get a straight answer yet??
you literally bring joy to every single viewer it's absolutely incredible. you are the man Scott !
Scott, this has to be one of the most enjoyable videos you have ever made. I'm heading to a plastic surgeon to see if he can relieve this stuck smile I have on my face! Seriously, I'm not sure if the intro or the shooting portion was more fun! You are the most entertaining, fun loving persons I have ever come across, and I've seen a few in my 74+ years! Bless you my friend, (I'm taking the liberty to call you that), thank you for taking my mind off of this crazy world we are living in. My best wishes always, Rick A
P.S. Even your sponsor section left me tickled. You are one of a kind!
Scotts a big dude he can just casually move around the 70 pound shield like its nothing.
Scott's a big guy.
That's for sure! Can you imagine trying to move around with that thing while being shot at!! Lol
@@meatballsaladIt’s usually used in pair with flash bang grenades so you could set it up crouching in front of a squad providing them cover. It’s not like you gonna run around with this thing.

And then Scott's Dad steps in,who passed his prime in terms of physical shape due to age,yet you instantly get it why Scott is still called Lil' Scotty at home.
I don't know how you keep surprising us Scott, what with all the big bore insanity, but watching you walk out the the 40" barrel on the AR really caught me off guard!! Well done sir!!!
I guess it's not just big bore, but extreme guns in other ways too. That's twice the barrel of a traditional "rifle length" AR.
For some reason i read 40 feet instead of inches
@@dartdukii Now that would be a heck of a barrel.
_"You just got jammed."_ might just be my favourite bit on the channel.
Mines is throwing the tables 🤣
I love that you are giving CZ some love. My dad has always shared his love of their designs with me and I feel like a lot of people overlook them.
Yeah, because CZ is small (in comparison to US, Russian or German manufacturers). But here, we adore it. Czech engineering.
“Legend has it, it’s still going…” that one got me. Well done. Thanks for the quality content.
Original Rating of the Vant is 3 rounds of 7.62x54R LPS with a STM-2 Bullet (GOST Rating BR4 / Class 5), meaning the rigby has like double the energy the shield was rated for
What about all the other larger rounds that have more energy than the Rigby but did not penetrate? Energy is but part of the equation, velocity and bullet construction combined with caliber also matter…
so we give the Ukrainians the rigby right
@@THUNDERBIRD-qy5ei Considering they can't even do anything with the best western tanks they've been "gifted with payment pending" I doubt shipping niche Safari rounds and rifles will affect much.
7:48 running weirdly funny with the gun swinging like that LOL 😂🤣😂🤣
The shield was impressive, but KUDOs to Scott in finding new and entertaining ways to destroy those pesky tables!!! Awesome job Scott!
I'd love to see a 4 bore extreme solid brass round!
I will NEVER get enough of that gun. Keep going scott can already tell this video will be priceless
3:55 i love how scott just messes about proper just throwing things around wether its sponsors or anything. Just having a laugh and banging stuff and just throwing stuff about. Soo funny. Keep it up😂
I would love a penetration test video on different surfaces with the .416 Rigby. This round seems unstoppable and i count on you Scott to find what can stop this bullet.
I agree on that. Sort of wondering if you could make a HMG in .416Rig, or something similar. Definitely has the velocity and penetration.
It's comparable to it's child .338 LM, (although a decent bit worse) so you can safely guess whatever stops .338 will stop ye olde .416
Agreed
Maybe he can try bringing back the armstrongs but i dont think they can take that much
You never fail to deliver, Scott. Keep it up brother 😊
Considering the ringer that shield was put through, if I were its maker, I'd be extremely proud of myself xD
Until a round with the name Rigby shoots through then I'd be pissed lol
Well, apparently it's only rated up to 7.62x54R LPS bullets shot from 5m, so yeah.
I did not expect it to stop so much.
What I didn't get either was the damned 7.62x39 blowing through. Manufacturing error maybe?
@@TheR00k I honestly have no clue
@@TheR00kThe ballistic material on the leg flap thing had enough after the first rounds, mainly the Hella long barrel AR I'm thinking. (I was impressed it stopped that.)
The 416 Rigby has got to be the scariest round a civilian weapon can fire. Thing just vaporizes whatever it hits.
We definitely need to see some more of that .416 “honey badger” doing its thing to different targets at multiple different ranges, after it defeated the shield I thought for sure the following larger bore rifles would as well, the fact that not a single other larger caliber did absolutely took me by surprise, so I think a video of just that .416hb(what I will call it from now on) doing its thing is in order, I can’t imagine how your shoulder must’ve felt a couple hours after filming this one, giving it a chance to stiffen up a bit I’m betting it hated you and let you know it lol
I would like to see that round filmed by slowmo guys with their incredible cameras.
I came here to say the same exact thing lol
Smaller diameter bullets of moderate weight penetrate quite well.
That shield is actually really damn strong!
Only in modern warfare no one shoots with inch rifles and lead bullets, any armor-piercing cartridge would pierce this Kevlar.
No it really isn't, watch garand thumbs video. .30-06 AP blows right through, so does .308 AP. It is only because the four bore doesn't have spitzer type bullets. Make em pointy it's going through.
I knew the .416 would punch it. That’s a magical round. Barrett made a .416 system, and from what I’ve read and “seen”, it truly is mystical... especially out at Looooooong ranges.
That is what Ronnie Barret offered to sell the LAPD SWAT team after he refused to return their Barrett .50 Cals they sent for service, since they are illegal in Commiefornia.
@@thomasneedham1512 that is funny not returning the LAPD SWAT's 50 Cals because 50 Cals are illegal in California. how ironic
@Alice-ki7os what is this bot
I love Kentucky Ballistic! Scott is witty and always innovative and very informative when it come to testing the fire arms! he has a combined personality as a Stand up comedy, combined with the knowledge of fire arms. He is a ball innovative fun personality.
Watching the 500 S&W bounce right off that shield is absolutely astounding
These videos are so good like he always comes up with the best tests and videos all by himself
He definitely has help acquiring everything from the guns to the targets. He has definitely got thespian potential though.
That shield is pretty impressive being able to take that amount of punishment
Thank you for volunteering to take the multiple concussions in the demonstrations. The recoil from that 4-bore must be equal or better than taking punches from the biggest guy in the bar.
Scott you seem so happy, we’re all so proud of you and we love you, keep it up buddy
Thanks Scott. This video was a great idea. Id love to see what different types of armor and shields you get to put up with your collection of artillery
The impact from the 4-bore rounds is insane. Another fantastic video. Thanks 👍
I love the humor you put into the ad segments😂 the off-time backpack throw had me dying
It still blows my mind to think how close we came to losing this guy here to an abnormally hot .50 BMG SLAP round.
After an event like that, every subsequent day on earth (not under it) is a gift. I just hope he appreciates that 👍
Something tells me, that wasn't his first brush with death.
I totally get it tho.
I had a heart attack a few years ago. It definitely changes things.
@@letsdothis9063 Damn, glad you pulled through. I had a really close call in a car accident and came WAY to close to an incoming mortar shell, and I can honestly say coming close to dying left a huge impression on me. Life is a fragile and fleeting thing...
Wow I wonder what the "honeybadger" can't shoot through!! That thing is a beast! It always goes through whatever Scott shoots at!
Scott. Your intros are becoming dry good. Very original and enter. Great job. Keep ‘em coming.
The honey badger may not be the biggest but it’s certainly the meanest. Damn!
I don’t know why but I love watching armor testing videos like this. Plus you make them so entertaining.
Scott, your new toy looks like a great mounting location for the punt gun 😮

Why you gotta call me out? I was totally pooping and took that personal. Made me pause for a second and look around lol.
Thanks for sacrificing your shoulder for our entertainment!😀 Great video Scott! God bless!
I wonder how things like tungsten and solid iron hold up to the 4-bore. Also, the intros are always fun to watch :)
So dangerous for the shooter. Yikes
Tungsten hurts bullets.
Idk
that's umm... well, classified and/or redacted
I'm not sure if it's legal to do this, but you could definitely fit enough explosive in a 4 bore slug to create a fairly dynamic effect on the target. Even some black powder would be quite dramatic. 😛
Taneright I spelled that wrong I think
The 4 bore is 25mm acording to chat gpt and theres plenty of AA guns on the 20mm size so i guess you could fire an HE round or something
Addicted to this channel, kills me every time. Cheers man. The Honey Badger just shows that velocity is essential but the last cannon was sending that soldier home in plaster.
Whenever Scott uploads a video, a table gains its wings. Love your stuff man, appreciate you! Can’t wait to see what you do with your new toy :D
Um Scott no joke I’m on the toilet as I’m typing this… 10:09 that was weird my face just was in awe
I think the scariest thing you could do now with that 4-bore round is make a custom round with a Spitzer tip instead of the soft-nose, I think that would likely help with greater penetration power against the Vant shield.
Honestly at that point just use a 20mm rifle.
Maybe a Explosive round would be cool to !
Leg plate definitely acted like Kevlar. The slower moving 500 bunched it all up and weakened it for sure so who knows.
I'm not gonna lie, most of the fun when Scott brings out the Double Barrel is when he names the engravings random animals XD
You know the 4 bore is a beast when your nose bends from the concussion 😂
5:35 Stott referring to a 10mm as a "small caliber" really tells you all you need to know about this chanel, and I love it.
