At first i thought this was just going to he a quick fix paint video but no, y'all took your time and did everything right! Bed, chassis transmission GREAT WORK GUYS!
That's really cool, trucks today cost at least $30k, it's always cheaper to replace stuff than to buy something new, plus it looks like a brand new truck right off the lot :).
Angel Galvan yea, its quite unfortunate. About the only truck you can get built like a rock anymore is a Toyota, even other makes from japan like nissan are drooping in quality
You and your son did a great job on this truck. I want to restore a truck or muscle car with my son when he's almost old enough to drive. I figure it will teach him how to work on things himself, it will make great memories for the both of us, and he will respect it more than if I just buy him a car and give it to him. I wish my dad would have done something like this for me but luckily when I was in high school I took auto shop and all my friends were gear heads so I learned that way. Maybe I'll give him my 91 GMC 1500 if I still have it by then. Or I can let him pick a vehicle that he likes and we can fix it up together.
Id say start when hes about 13 and really tell him how things work and get him fascinated by it i say 13 because you guys will be able to take your time and do it right
i used to have an s10 xtreme. the chassis was bent when i bought it. took it down to chassis and bent it back into place. took about three months with two people working on it 8-12 hours a day only on rhe weekends. it is an easy truck to do anything to. parts are pretty cheap too. go for it man.
I've got a '99 LS s10. Love the truck. Never found a reason to get rid of it. Has less than 12k on both the motor and trans. Just need to clear A LOT of crap out of my garage before I take the step this man did with his son. Other than that I sand blasted the frame on the back half and cleaned it up with a layer of rhino liner.
awesome work!! my daughter and I are working on a 1991 454ss, she's 6 and she drags me to the garage to be productive on it. I told her it's hers so she made sure I put it in her name cause I'm always selling or trading rides, she's 6!!
Nice project for father and son. Great to see a youngster taking the time, patience & effort it takes to complete something like this. This is the only way for the younger guys to appreciate what it takes to complete something like this; instead of daddy buying one for him. Congratulations to you both! Awesome results from some very hard work.
And they say hard work don't pay off? Nice work! That truck will last a long time if you take care of it. I wish I could go back in time 20 years, I'd do that in a heartbeat over buying a new one.
Good job man, it makes me happy to see younger kids learning how to do this stuff and taking pride in their work. I add a leveling kit on the front and call it a day. Looks good buddy!
The paint on my late wife's '90 Olds Calais did the same thing. I had taken it down to the car wash to clean it with the intentions of detailing it and surprising her. The paint looked perfectly normal until the water hit it and it all started peeling off in big pieces! Needless to say, she was NOT a happy lady. Luckily, there was a recall on the paint for those years and the dealer repainted it for free. It never did really look right after that, though. The paint they had to use just would not shine like the old paint did. I sold the car a year or so after she suddenly died of cancer (three weeks from diagnosis to passing) and I still felt terrible that it happened She loved that little car. GM may have had the right intentions but they certainly did NOT know what they were doing when they came up with that idea.
No better memories can be had then when you redo your first.. Mine was a 68 C-20 fleet side.. Back then it was just a 20+ yr truck.. similar to what you got today.. Take care of it! I still have mine.. it's been restored again and is the shop truck.. congrats bud
I've noticed that the white trucks made from 88-94 really have issues with peeling down the sides like yours did. Anyway, it looks amazing! You might try pressure washing the carpet out of the truck too. It makes a HUGE difference. I've done it in just about every vehicle of mine, and I'm always satisfied with the results. Even if it looks clean, tons of crap will come out when you pressure wash it.
Back in the day, Chevrolet would pay for a new paint job if your vehicle was peeling and less than 5 years old. I had my blue '92 Beretta done free of charge.
Was it a paint issue that just made the paint not adhere? Maybe cheap primer? I've even seen the mid 2000's Impalas have the same issue on their roofs. Most of them have been white as well. Good luck getting the dealers to do anything today though. They write their warranties up so that most issues aren't covered nowadays.
Man, I love stuff like this. There are a lot of memories to be made taking something old and making it new again. Glad to see y'all did most all of the work yourselves.
I spoke to you and your wife about your wonderful truck that I saw at the Menard's Chevy show held at the Ace Cafe today in Orlando. You did a good job chronicling the restoration in your photo album. You have something to be proud of and Congratulations on your WIN!!
I'm 17, and I'd consider getting a truck and at the very least fix it up to a pretty good condition, Issue is i'd need to learn welding, as everything up here has rusty frames lol
Would've been a different story if it was a northern car (say like Michigan) you would've had a lot of rust to deal with. Good job tho and your lucky it wasn't rusty!!

Awesome job. I wanted to restore a couple trucks I had but I don’t have a shop. I had a 1990 f-150 302v8 4x4 reg cab long bed from Virginia. It had 176,000 miles. Everything was in very good condition for its age. The interior was perfect. It sat for 16 years. It had a couple spots of rust around the bed fenders but that was it. The engine needed head gaskets done and it had the common frame crack under the engine. I also had a 1985 C-20 reg cab long bed with the 305v8. It had rust on the back of the bed fenders and the floors and rockers were gone. The frame was spotless. The truck lasted so long because it had a undercoating done by Rusty Jones, but it still ran and drove. It had 230,000 miles.
Clean job mate, most people do not understand the time and money that goes into restore work. Glad you did a spray in raptor boxliner, good stuff, yeah i like my devilbiss 670 solvent gun, use that for etch primer, sealer and plastic adhesion promoter. Great little hvlp spray gun!!
Super impressive job! That truck looked like it had a bad day in the field and now it has a new life. The lessons learned restoring that truck will stick with you long after it's no longer running. Best of luck in you're future endeavors. Thank you for sharing your process and hard work.
Great job son. I really respect your work ethic. You saw the job through and it looks great. Been in Autobody and paint for 40 years and I can say well done. Enjoy for years to come.

Gorgeous truck. I’d love to do that to my 03 Sierra. Ever since I inherited that truck from my father I’ve had a passion for GMCs. I’d love to see that old truck in some future videos.
Thank you. The truck has always been in the family and mechanically it was in good shape. When my son needed a vehicle, it was either buy something used with no guarantees or restore the family truck. I used the project to teach my son some mechanical skills.

Looks great! But I like the factory wheels better...
Thank you. We just put BF Goodrich KO2's on and they look great.
Cool I have the same tires on my Superduty and my Dad has a truck likes yours but a 1992. Great simple reliable truck!
Awesome work on the truck its fun when the family plays a roll in the built.
Thanks. It was a fun project
Very cool seeing people bring new life to a 90s automobile you hardly see it unless its some rare car.
I would like to do this to an older 90s something.. lol
I bet this truck spent its whole life on a farm.
Texas farm truck.
Its been a great work truck. Hate to get it dirty now.
Dang man that thang is nice now! I had a 92 Chevy k1500 4x4 with a 5.7 350 tbi I loved it I had to sell it last year due to my mom getting in a wreck and my dad was recovering from a heart attack and had to pay their bills off I miss mine so much! About the most comfortable truck to ride in had a lot of memories in her for sure! Love yours man!
That truck reminds me of the first vehicle I ever bought but it was a 1991 gmc Sierra 1500 work truck edition !!!!!
